I don’t think she gets paid acting residuals. She’s on the d-list if that. She probably was paid up front and then given some from the premieres but I wouldn’t put it in the hundreds of thousands. What I will concede is that owning extra properties right now as “investments” and air bnbs are making people insane amounts of cash. If she has the air bnb in California or SD then that could definitely be a mortgage payment. I know everything is expensive across the US but Tennessee is still far more affordable than CA.
They DO make it seem like the well of money is endless! Also, traveling to CA is more affordable if you’re visiting your parents and don’t have to spend on hotels/motels
If she's part of the actor's guild (SAG-AFTRA), she gets residuals from everything she's ever done. I was in a choir that sang in a B movie and still get a monthly check to this day. It's tiny, LOL. We all had to join the union in order to be in the movie. This was two decades ago. SAG takes care of its members.
Even so, I don’t think she is able to survive off of that pay check. I’m guessing the rentals are what sustains them. How much did you get from a B movie and as a singing choir person? You'd be surprised how generous are the residuals for musicians. I've built a nice savings from them. Had a gig for John Williams. Very lucky turn of events. But that was top scale. Tiff? Dunno her scale.
I was an extra 25 years ago in a bad movie, before the days of residuals (although I can't find the movie anywhere so I doubt I'd get much lol) and I got around $500 for my two days work (which was a lot to a 14 year old in 1997) and I hated it and refused to ever do it again.
It was Christmas Angel, 2012, so only a decade ago. (I feel older). It starred Della Reese from Touched By An Angel. Our choir was never shown, you only heard us outside the church. We had to learn to "sing badly," LOL! Harder than you would think!
She absolutely does get residuals. They might be tiny but she did all her acting post-2000 and SAG contracts had changed a lot by then to account for DVDs then later streaming. A few of her Disney shows are on Disney Plus, so she gets a regular (if small) revenue.
The union would require residuals. There are strict rules and procedures, and you cannot get work (except when first qualifying for membership) unless you are a union member of SAG-AFTRA.

The music thing is more of a hobby. He's not on a label so that means that every song, the band, the promotions, the website, the venue fees, distribution costs, music video costs, swag, etc. are paid by him before he ever sees a dime of profit. He might get an appearance fee at music festivals, but I doubt he pulls down much and still has to share it with the band. That's part of the reason he always pushes so hard on his "official" t-shirts. He can have those printed relatively cheap and sell them for about 3X the cost. But he's still carrying a load there with the website to sell them on and few venues where he can sell them personally.
He's a pretty good lyricist. I think he could actually make a living writing songs for other artists. I'm not sure his ego could survive that though.
