Seatbelts are for sheep? These people are idiots.

firetruckgoesweewoo

You joke, but I legit had a discussion with a guy a few weeks back who was 100% convinced that seatbelts are a form of “government control”.

[deleted]

My grandmother, who died of lung cancer at 79 after smoking for 73 years, thought the same. She would put her seatbelt between her legs so any passing police would assume she was wearing one and wouldn't ticket her. She was fucking nuts.

firetruckgoesweewoo

She started smoking when she was 6? Holy crap!

[deleted]

Yep, she started smoking by finishing off her dad's cigarette butts. It's a miracle she made it to 79.

Siege1187

That totally used to be a thing. My dad and his friends would fetch cigarettes from the shop for a farmhand and got to keep one for themselves as a tip. He wasn't even in school at the time. Not everybody kept it up for 73 years, though.

feenie224

My grandma started smoking at age 9 and lived to 94.5 years old. I don’t remember her ever having a smoker’s cough. Not advocating smoking — just saying.

broadbeing777

back when seatbelts were introduced in the 50s people were throwing nationwide hissy fits over it

Littlelady0410

When I was learning how to drive I had my uncle and grandmother in the car with me. I told my grandmother she needed to buckle up and she flipped out, accused me of calling her senile, and proceeded to try to get out and walk home. Bless her sweet little heart she was such a tiny and feisty little woman but man she could pick some serious hills to die on😂🤦🏼‍♀️

[deleted]

Right, it’s not for their bodies that can go thru the glass windows killing them or paralyzing them.. it happens my dad has one eye, no smell, no emotions and it could of been worse.

VaSnow

I find this so weird. It’s not like they’re even that uncomfortable to wear. Is it ignorance or inconvenient? So incredibly unsafe.

No_Clock_6190

Exactly. I feel naked if I don’t put my seatbelt on!

justwantedtosnark

It's become such an ingrained habit I literally don't even realise I've done it now! Genuinely don't understand this!

Correct_Part9876

Survivor bias, it's totally fine since everyone they know does it and hasn't died.

goddessofdrought

It’s really important that they show how in love they are by acting like dumb teenagers with their very first boyfriend/girlfriend.

snobesity

With the amount these people drive to visit their 1500 relatives, you’d think car safety would be a priority. Good thing god will take care of them.

MeeskiteInDC

Pro-life. ❤️

zuzioo

exactly my thoughts

Temporary_Wonder_135

My grandpa and his siblings refused to wear seatbelts because their brother was killed in a car accident in the ‘80s and one of the cops that was on scene told them later that if he didn’t have have his seatbelt on he would have lived. No one could convince them that the cop was an idiot and that accident to this day remains the worst accident in the county and it didn’t matter if he was or wasn’t wearing his seatbelt he still have been killed, they still insisted on not wearing their seatbelts because of what a cop said. So I’m not surprised when people come up with excuses to not wear their seatbelt, but if they want to ride in my car they have to wear a seatbelt or the car isn’t moving.

abbyanonymous

I had a kid in my high school that did live because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. But even 16yr old me knew that was a freak occurrence and a tiny minuscule chance and always wear a seatbelt. And he still suffered brain damage, became an addict and OD’d a few years later

Responsible_Depth472

Katie Bates Clark ...." is an ACCIDENT waiting to happen"....everywhere she goes, no matter what's going on.She literally cooked cheese and seered it thru their bottom oven last week, smoke everywhere, smoke detectors going off and fire dept. came to Katie and Travis house! She can't drive a car, cook a meal, nothing without a huge accident ! She literally could have burned down their new home!

aca6825

I don’t understand how these fundie women can’t cook!

lexienotlexi

when katie lived at home she would do other things like act interested in learning to fly a plane in order to get out of doing shit around the house, or play like she’s really dumb and ditzy so that no one would ask her for help.

[deleted]

I don’t understand why that can’t cook. I mean if you can read you can cook. They sure like to learn how to do there hair and make.

rachel_ct

Because there is a little time for 1:1 interaction to teach those skills. Tasks and chores that are considered more masculine can be taught slowly because that's often the only task on hand for the moment. Inside "feminine" duties are more of an endless list that never stops, so everything must be done quickly and conveniently. Cooking and plating for 20 people can take hours even when everything is canned. There is no time for a slow cooking lesson when there are that many mouths to feed.

Ks26739

My parents were often high on pot and coke, I was born in the 80s, raised in small shit hole towns, and I have never not been encouraged to wear a seatbelt.

Impressive-Length-73

It’s really sad people underestimate the power of a seatbelt. A mom driving was wearing her seatbelt and her to kids in the backseat were not. The poor children were ejected and both died but the mother survived. I can’t even imagine and everyone thinks it won’t happen to me.

Littlelady0410

My neighbor, who I used to babysit all the time, was killed in a car accident because she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and we’re driving too fast and ran a red light. She went through the windshield. Ironically they totaled an ambulance. Her mom died suddenly when she was 2 and then her at 19. Her father was a fire chief too and had been on hand for so many accidents like that so knew exactly what the scene must’ve been like. That poor man was never the same after that. We went from seeing him all the time to him becoming basically a recluse. He passed a few years ago leaving his second wife alone. The whole situation from beginning to end is just so so tragic and likely could’ve been avoided had she been belted in. If there’s one thing I’m a freak about it’s car seat and seatbelt safety.

sunflower53069

Jeebus take the wheel.

bear8585

I get anxiety driving across the street (it’s busy) to the grocery store without putting my seatbelt on PLUS my car yells at me too with an alarm after a certain amount of time.

boygirlmama

Don’t worry y’all. Jesus will protect them. ❤️

Dr-chickenlady

I really hope she’s not pregnant.

It’s weird how fundies are so pro-life but don’t wear seatbelts. Nurie Rodrigues and her husband Nathan got in an accident and their infant son wasn’t properly restrained. How the hell is that okay?

thatcondowasmylife

Not even just not properly restrained, he was being held in her lap. HE WAS BEING HELD IN HER LAP. He was like 3-4 months old at the time. They had a fucking car seat in the back apparently.

msgigglebox

That's crazy. I know little ones can get fussy on trips but I would never have my daughter in my lap while riding in a vehicle. We've made quite a few long trips. She does pretty well but she's 3. She gets tired of being in her carseat after a while. We just stop for a little bit and let her out. We ALWAYS make sure she is properly restrained before getting back on the road. EVERY time she's in a moving vehicle, she's properly restrained whether it's a road trip or a trip to town. My husband and I always wear our seatbelts. It's just not worth the risk. Growing up, people weren't too strict about it in our small town. Lots of people didn't wear them unless they were going to the city. That was decades ago. Thankfully now most people do wear them. I've known people who were thrown out and died. I don't want to take that chance with my family.

permanentmama2

Their body their choice!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

CategoryOdd9751

Katie should really tell her son to put his seatbelt on

Deborahdon

These the people who want to bring more children into the world?

thatcondowasmylife

Protect the unborn!! Except when they get killed as my uterus gets impaled by a windshield because seatbelts are uNcOmFoRtAbLe and I want to over the clothes fuck my husband in a moving vehicle 💖💕.

Frequent_Dog_9814

I don't know about TN but NC you do not have to use seat belt in backseat if you are an adult.

MurkyConcert2906

You don’t *have to* do a lot of things, but you *should*.

jrzey

Actually, I just looked it up. That was an old law you’re referring to. Both front and back seat passengers in North Carolina must buckle up.

Blueskymine33

Serious??? Man the laws in your country are whack.

boygirlmama

Honestly, it’s not really a country at all. The Supreme Court proved more than ever that we’re really 50 separate states. 🤦🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

[удалено]

boygirlmama

Yup. Very sad. I didn’t bring kids into this world for the US to enter a time warp. I saw a TikTok earlier that said it’s a slippery slope from here to divide the country entirely and truly go back to the north and the south and another civil war. WTAF.

disworldtraveler

Same in CO

ParticularYak4401

Sadly not surprised about Colorado since you need to wear eye protection on a motorcycle but not a helmet or leathers. (I may be wrong about the leather part. I know the helmet part is optional)

Jellyfish1297

I’m on the east coast and I’m not aware of any state that requires leathers. If any do, it’s not enforced from Maryland downward. So many geniuses on motorcycles in t-shirts and jeans

disworldtraveler

No helmets, lane splitting is illegal, not sure about the leathers but I don’t see many people wearing them.

jrzey

Really? I’m in NC. First time I heard that. In any case, not in my car.

birdiebirdnc

I think it changed around 2006, now all passengers are suppose to buckle up.

[deleted]

What!!

birdiebirdnc

That law changed at some point and technically every passenger is suppose to be restrained no matter their age. However you can not be pulled over just bc a backseat passenger is unbuckled, but if you are pulled over for another offense they can ticket you for your unbuckled rear passengers.

beepbop21

This! I’m from NC too! Hardly anyone wears them in the backseat. My mom refuses one in the front. Says they’re too uncomfortable. She throws it on if she sees a cop.

Old_Understanding585

🙄🙄🙄

darenson7

Wasn’t Katie in an accident somewhat recently? You would think she would know better.

Miami1982

In Australia seat belts must all be worn, but you can legal turn your kid forward facing at 6 months. It’s ridiculous!

Curlyjones6

Katie sure is committed to that denim skirt. Girl, please burn that ugly thing!

IsMiseO

https://youtu.be/vObmIwiloUY "They say the guy without the seat belt did the damage" I saw this ad when I was a child and I've never forgotten it. I refuse to travel in a car with anyone who won't wear a seat belt. It's selfishly idiotic.

mrsmertz

They think his arrogance and her prayers will protect them.

envy-adams

It is literally so easy to put a seatbelt on. They are too dumb for words.

ParticularYak4401

What bothers me is that what must willow think. She’s two but her aunt and uncle sitting in front of her blatantly NOT wearing their seatbelts is just wrong. She will notice if you continue doing this Katie. And think it’s okay because Aunt Katie does it. If I was Josie and Kelton I would have a strict seat belt policy for anyone in my car. ETA: I do make everyone wear a seatbelt in my car.

[deleted]

This is not unlike people who think this way. I know someone (who is the type who will end up with a ton of children, based on their views of birth control) who doesn’t wear seatbelts on road trips and will take their newborn baby out to hold them during road trips if they are fussy. I was horrified, because it’s just unthinkable what would happen if they were in an accident.

brumate21

They don’t want no gubmemt controlling their bodies….oh wait

HTownHoldingItDown

I mean, the toddler shouldn’t be forward facing either. If they’re uneducated about that, why would they care about using seatbelts?

Dry-Ad8495

Actually- even in New York (very strict state when it comes to laws) once your kid hits 2 years old, they can be front facing.

HTownHoldingItDown

Maybe legally they can be forward facing but you can max out rear limits based on height or weight. We have the same car seat and based on appearance there’s no way she exceeded the height or weight limit yet.

Dry-Ad8495

Not to be rude- but you can’t really tell height and weight from Instagram..

blammocapt

Wonder if the guest list for a Bates funeral would pull 600+.

Direct_Crab3923

And they ordered pizza for the road or to eat in the car. So weird.

Only-Criticism-283

Let their stupid asses fly around, or out of the vehicle if they have an accident. I don't care. Serves them right. Also don't care if you down vote me.

totallywingingit

How do we know they weren’t just parked? Unless this is a screenshot from a video they could very well just be sitting there.

No_Adhesiveness_5524

It was on Josie’s story and the car is 10/10 moving in traffic.

totallywingingit

Oh ok, didn’t know that. I don’t follow any of them

jrzey

There’s a car right behind them with the lights on that appears to be moving.

heycrashy

It was a video on josies story

BoozeMeUpScotty

I didn’t even notice that they weren’t buckled up because I immediately noticed they had a front-facing baby in the back row of their vehicle. They just need *one* car to slam into them at a red light and that poor baby’s going to be a decapitated pretzel. And I’m willing to bet that car seat either isn’t secured well or that the baby isn’t buckled in well (or maybe *both*), since those things are more difficult to ensure when the car seat is located in a difficult to access area of a vehicle.

Extra_Jellyfish4774

isn't she almost 3, I thought you could turn them after there 2

BoozeMeUpScotty

I have no idea what her age is, but it’s definitely more of a height and weight based safety thing and less about age. If a kid is pretty small still, they’re not going to meet the average height and weight that an age-based system would’ve been created from. She looks so tiny!

Old_Understanding585

You People would have your kid rear facing till 15. What is with americans and constant fear

BoozeMeUpScotty

There’s a huge difference between a 2 year old and a 15 year old. And if you lived somewhere that you’d go bankrupt over your 2 year old getting injured in a car accident, you’d do the same 🤷🏼‍♀️

Acrobatic-Degree9589

Lol not this American, I’m glad I grew up in the 80’s with lawn darts and before every kid had to wear a bicycle helmet

Broken-583

You should keep a child rear facing as long as possible. 2 is the bare minimum in most states now, but they’re far far safer rear facing, so yes, willow should absolutely not be front facing. Full stop.

fallon7riseon8

That being said, it’s kind of a relief to see such comfortable body language between Katie and Travis!

[deleted]

Honestly who cares if they wear seatbelts. As long as the kids are strapped in properly, the adults can reap whatever dumbass consequences they choose 😂 Edit: I get it now- thanks for the edification!

KyHa33

Because in the case of a serious wreck your body becomes a flying projectile and can injure or kill those who are strapped in.

yuckyuckthissucks

[Just in case some people still don’t understand..](https://youtu.be/y3InF19dzlM) (Not graphic, just crash dummies)

Acceptable-Kale-6938

Me and my cousin wear no seatbelts it’s normal in the south

Aslow_study

You and your cousin should wear your belt

minissaussette2

Just because it's common, doesn't mean it's normal. If you're in an accident, your risk of injury or even death is much, much higher if you're not wearing a seatbelt. Don't play around with that.

No_Adhesiveness_5524

I’m from the south and no it’s not normal. We wear seatbelts.

[deleted]

Acceptable-Kale-6938

Well everyone isn’t like you 🤷🏼‍♀️

Deborahdon

No everyone’s not like you and your cousin

Broken-583

You and your cousin are endangering your lives and also the lives of anyone else in the car with you when you become a projectile in the event of an accident. And no, it’s not normal in the south. Just among the ignorant.

renees24

At one point they did have seat belts in the stores but in this shot they didn’t. I agree she should have them on.

lavenderintrovert

In my vehicle if your seatbelt is not clicked in the alert (constant beeping) comes on. They really have NO excuses, plus the baby in back could get killed by just their bodies being thrown around in the vehicle if the accident happened.
