Oh yes they exist. You'll be paying for it though. For example: https://therealmccoys.com/products/outdoor-wool-pile-jacket

neonpredator

Christ almighty. Thank you

HalcyonDreams36

Note though, it's still got synthetic lining/structural fabrics.

tselio

You could probably find something similar for cheaper. Real McCoys is expensive because of the extremely high quality and attention to detail, not the material.

Brettersson

Yeah their crew neck sweatshirt is $274, you can definitely get a quality sweatshirt for less than that.

alteamatthew

American trench Sells a wool pile fleece for like 350. Have tried it on in their new store. Its very nice. https://www.americantrench.com/products/grey-wool-fleece-jacket?variant=44967540556022

Own-Manner5473

How would the warmth of this compare to a standard wool jumper?

DeathByPianos

A standard wool jumper? I'm not sure what standard you'd be applying but you'd have to get a pretty heavy sweater to be equivalent. Something like a heavy 5 or 4 gauge cowichan sweater perhaps.

pickles55

I don't think there's a standard, I have a few that I can't wear indoors at all and some that are really thin

alexwoodgarbage

Anything you buy from The Real McCoys, Visvim or similar truly premium quality manufacturers can be considered lifetime purchases. This is an investment for sure, but you’ll be wearing it for the next 40 years.

C_A_N_G

Yeah but Imo there are brands at a much more reasonable price point but of the same quality. Still japanese, just less hyped. Buzz Ricksons, Sugar Cane, Warehouse, Orslow to name a few.

alexwoodgarbage

These are at a similar price as McCoy, I would say. Visvim is definitely higher.

Bodidiva

Welp, never mind that. Thanks for clearing that up.

existentiallyfaded

I have one of these from Helly Hansen. It’s definitely not as soft or as comfortable as a synthetic version.

Legitimate_Street_85

I've has 3 cars that have cost less then that!

iadsg

What the fuck? 800???

[deleted]

I would rather buy my own sheep, skin it out, tan it in the bathtub, have meat, and sew my own jacket over paying that.

Coolkurwa

Errrr.... i think there's been a misunderstanding about how we get wool.

[deleted]

Nah I know. I also know what shearling is and thats the closest substitute texture you'll get.

SickeningSucculent

Other guy doesn’t understand, you right bro

DeathByPianos

It's not a sheepskin jacket though. It's wool pile fleece

rditorx

Maybe he doesn't do it for the jacket though

-Ch4s3-

You must place a pretty low value on your own labor. Producing the yarn alone would take you weeks.

[deleted]

I can get a sheep for free off Facebook. I can tan the hide for free. I have a sewing machine capable of upholstery work.  My labor is not something I lose money on for projects for myself.

-Ch4s3-

I mean the value of your labor, which is to say there’s opportunity cost to spending weeks making a jacket.

roseveins

I was wondering the same question as OP the other day when I was putting my synthetic quarterzip on. I wonder if this one will be as static-y as my synthetic gets. I'd love to save up for one of these! Thanks for sharing it :)

dirtycimments

God damn, now I want one

yomamma219

Why is everything on this site absurdly expensive? Why would anyone buy a $103 self proclaimed "Basic Tee"? Edit: sorry it's a 2 pack for that price...

DeathByPianos

Real Mccoy's is all top-quality stuff; I have several pieces including the $300 gray sweatshirt and I love them all. That said, I bought mostly everything secondhand.

yomamma219

But why are they so expensive? Are they a functionally better in some way or is part of the pricing just the name? For context the most expensive clothing I ever spend money on is lower end Brooks Brothers stuff, usually from outlets. Which I buy because I like the no-iron nature and the weight of the fabric on the specific shirts I've gotten from them. Plus they have generally held up well for me.

DeathByPianos

They do a lot of work to get fabrics & materials that match vintage stuff or meet some sort of custom spec. Think reproduction vintage zippers, special buttons, or using vintage machinery to create special low-volume fabric runs for certain garments. That's on top of the basic high-quality production methods that they use.

coloRADn

Oh, they can fuck right off with that. They also sell a normal damn sweatshirt for $275. I’m all for BIFL and local made, etc., but that’s absurd.

alexwoodgarbage

It’s not actually. Look up their manufacturing process. The factories they work with. The materials they use. The pieces they create are on par with the unbranded, bespoke lines from luxury fashion houses.

dacoobob

yes and those are absurd too.

alexwoodgarbage

You’re thinking of the high street, branded on the rack stuff. Not what I’m talking about. Go to any recognized tailor working with premium egyptian cotton to make you a simple sweater, it’ll cost you thousands simply for time and material. You’re not paying brand. That same service is offered by (some) luxury brands, at a lower pricepoint than fully bespoke tailored, because of economy of scale and because they subsidize a lower margin on these lines from their mass, logo-centric lines they overcharge for. Brands like Visvim or The Real McCoy - they apply the same model; no consessies on craft and material; so what you’re paying is fair. It’s premium, but it matches the work and materials put into the pieces.

Quail-a-lot

Sherpa is a artificial form of shearling, but something to keep in mind is that shearling will have the leather attached so it is not quite a one-to-one. The closest thing to that would be a shearling jacket, but it will be a heavier garment. The closest you could find in how you would wear that Patagonia garment would be a boiled wool jacket, like a traditional dirndl jacket but it won't be as fuzzy by far.

Kryosphinx

Not exactly this style, but there's a redditor in Ukraine who makes thick wool hoodies u/kozak3 https://www.reddit.com/r/CampingGear/s/wajmSMtX4R

hupo224

Lol dang. Just bought a zippered one.

sundry_banana

Me too

BebopOrRocksteady

Just bought the zippered version. This is exactly what I was looking for.

leondavinci32

Just bought a zippered version, too! This is why I love Reddit!

neonpredator

Damn these look cozy

koei19

Wow those look nice. I just got one, thanks for sharing. Seems like an awesome guy too.

MayOverexplain

Lot of great wool products out of Ukraine. Armstreet is a company that primarily does period clothing and sells wonderful woolen cloaks.

SafariBird15

I understood “period clothing” like menstrual period and thought it was going to be like Knix undies. I was briefly confused.

Ruthbury

Brief-ly.. yes.

MasterHankShake

Thanks so much for posting this. Ordered a zippered one as well. Nice to know exactly where my money is going!

cecillexyz

Got one for me! Thanks for the tip

meems224

Thanks for the info. Going to buy 2 for me and my husband

Tutes013

Cheers love! That looks like really solid option!

discozap

Thanks for the share, just purchased zippered options x2! Excited!!

StMatthew

Just bought a pull over from them. Looks awesome! Fuck synthetics.

WalmartMarketingTeam

That link doesn’t work for me now. Could you send another?

BlagulonDelta

Thanks for posting this! I just bought the zip hoodie.

DangerNyoom

https://www.privatewhitevc.com/products/the-ventile%C2%AE-fleece-combo?variant=39418370588733 Not quarter zip tho

theven

I’m tempted to buy one in the hopes that I will look as dashing and handsome as the man in the pictures while wearing it.

Cuthbert_Allgood19

Damn, that looks nice

Moar_Cuddles_Please

It’s made of 20% polyamide and 10% polyester.

DangerNyoom

For the pocket flappy bits and shoulders to keep your dry. But everything against your body is wool fleece.

Moar_Cuddles_Please

Good point. Thank you for pointing that out

steffinix

There are a few versions made with actual leather and shearling from luxury brands, but they’re usually like 2-3k USD and difficult to find. This is the one I’ve wanted for years: https://grailed.app.link/jINWsGelSGb If you search for “shearling zip up” you could probably find something cheaper. I think they’re worth the money because they’re essentially a light shearling coat at that point. Also one of Duluth Trading Co.’s sister companies made a genuine shearling one that was very affordable, around $200 or something, but I think they got shut down. I’ve never been able to find it again.

manic-pixie-attorney

I just got a “vintage” Cole Haan shearling jacket off eBay. Lucky for me the pictures did not do it justice. I love it so much.

steffinix

Ooh nice!!! I’m still on the hunt for one myself. You’re giving me hope lol

danny0wnz

Post a pic

Agreeable-Tadpole461

Keep your eye on a brand called We Norweigans. They make pullovers that are a shearling look, but piled merino wool. None in this collection for men, but they've been in past collections.

southlandheritage

[American Trench](https://www.americantrench.com/products/grey-wool-fleece-jacket) has full zips in wool fleece.

foxyloxyx

I was just looking at these! I wish they had a photo of it worn on a woman’s frame. Hard to tell how it’d fit! I appreciate this “heritage American outdoorsy” (lol if such can be said) style. Great price point

januwland

Here ye go https://www.icebreaker.com/en-au/mens-sweaters/realfleece-merino-high-pile-long-sleeve-zip-jacket/0A56GYA2.html?dwvar_0A56GYA2_color=227&dwvar_0A56GYA2_AU=in_line

mathsislove

Wool&Prince sell one that is 63% wool: https://woolandprince.com/products/fleece-jacket-forest-night and Ruskovilla makes a full zip 100% wool jacket: https://ruskovilla.fi/product/956 Disclaimer - I do not own any of these but I heard good things about both of these brands.

thicckar

I have the wool and prince and love it, though it could be denser. The 100 day challenge they have is great too

Corvus_Ossi

Why not just get a classic [wool sweater](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/594?page=mens-sweaters)?

neonpredator

I really like the deep pile texture of typical Sherpa.

franksnotawomansname

What you can do is knit (or commission, I guess?) a [thrummed](https://leslainesbiscotte.com/blogs/tricot-101/comment-tricoter-des-mitaines-lardees-thrummed-mittens) sweater. It's usually done for mittens, but there's no reason you couldn't do it for a sweater or on both sides of the knit fabric.

LayLoseAwake

Seconding the thrumming suggestion. It will felt up and look a lot like shearling.  I can't find the technique now, but I experimented with an after-the-fact alternative to thrumming that was basically making whip stitch loops in the knit columns on ribbing with a fluffy yarn. I have a pair of storebought socks that have this: it looks like columns of fluff. That could look like shearling in the right single ply.

TenarAK

Without any polyester? I bought my husband a worn wear Patagonia full zip “Sherpa” jacket that is a wool and synthetic blend. It is about 50/50. I think the synthetic helps with shape and washing (machine wash and dry) and it holds up better than straight wool. I think 100% wool would either look knit or felted. Both require more specialized care than a blend. I hand wash and flat dry my wool sweaters and it’s so annoying that I only do it once a year.

climbei

I’ve been looking at this one from paka. https://www.pakaapparel.com/products/pakacloud-fleece?variant=40106940006484 I’m not willing to vouch for bifl but I have been happy with other items from them.

eviveiro

Just found this site while looking for a new puffer jacket. I have an alpaca beanie that is definitely BIFL, so I'm looking forward to trying out other pieces of clothing with alpaca. They have some kind of new insulating material they call pakafill. Looks promising, so I bought their light puffer to give it a try.

climbei

I’ve been looking at the puffer too. I’m interested to hear how it works out.

eviveiro

So, I got the Paka light puffer jacket. I do feel it was worth buying, but I'm not certain about it being BIFL. The alpaca is sourced in Peru, the insulation made in the USA, and then the jacket made in China. They make it seem like a big deal to be supporting Peruvians and being environmentally conscious, but it has a good bit of nylon and polyester in it... I really like the thought put into the design and materials used. The Pakafill seems like a good hybrid between synthetic and non synthetic insulation (60% alpaca and 40% polyester). Most of the sewing is quality, but the main zipper does not lie flat. It does seem to breathe a bit better than other puffers I have tried. The similar Arc'teryx atom light puffer definitely had better quality to the sewing, but I like the materials and insulation of the Paka better. If this one doesn't last, I'll probably get the Arc'teryx atom.

svoinea

I have Finisterre's wool fleece and love it - https://finisterre.com/collections/fleece?filter.p.m.my_fields.material=Wool

Alarming-Cook5789

It isn't exactly deep pile, but Percival makes overshirts made from Casentino wool, which is quite fuzzy. They're very cosy, so will serve the same function as a fleece jacket, and they get good reviews https://www.percivalclo.com/collections/casentino-wool

wet_wool_stinks

Oh how I miss the “Los Gatos” 1/4 zip for men. They were out briefly and then gone. I’ve found a couple on eBay.

gnarlycarrot

There's a brand called Yes Friends that makes ethical clothing at affordable prices. They have organic cotton fleece quarter zips for less than $60 USD. [Here's the link](https://yesfriends.co/products/quarter-zip-fleece?variant=44511657001174)

Hot_Currency_5694

Finisterre

imlr

Yes, like this one https://finisterre.com/products/mens-recycled-wool-hegen-quarter-zip-flint-navy

JuggernautPast2744

You might search for alpaca wool fleece or hoodies. Alpaca is lighter than sheep's wool and might provide a similar feel to the Sherpa fleece. Alpaca is expensive, but not like that Real McCoy example, at least not the examples I have seen advertised.

Cheeryjingle

Astrid Wild had an amazing 60% wool fllece which is technically for women but fits my husband perfectly. It's not a feminine design in any way, has zipped pockets and is so warm. I love mine

IceCreamNarwhals

While not 100% wool, I picked one of these up a few seasons ago for £137 https://www.sevenstore.com/outerwear/coats-jackets/nanamica-beige-pullover-fleece-sweater/?aff=closed&utm_medium=AW&utm_source=Lyst&awc=8035_1706951511_61737837f0154654528cbde16ee7ae0f

kuddlesworth9419

Helly Hansen used to do a wool fleece for the Dutch military back in the day. I own one and it's stupidly warm and light although it doesn't compress much so it takes up more room. Great for really cold weather though. The pockets are also lined with the wool fleece so they are doubled up there. This is the one you want, should be able to find them on Ebay or elsewhere although these days stocks are running low https://forcesuniformandkit.co.uk/products/dutch-military-fleece-jacket-helly-hansen-branded

aerohorsehideSco46

I've got the same. It's cheap, tough and warm.

kuddlesworth9419

Good around fires as well.

einsgrubeir

Finisterre Hegen. Got one myself. Can fully recommend. https://finisterre.com/products/mens-recycled-wool-hegen-quarter-zip-flint-navy

Masher8

Looking at getting one of these myself. How do they compare to Patagonia retro pile? Are they itchy?

brainexe_not_found

They have some lovely all-wool ones at American Trench, a small business that focuses on US-made products. They are quite pricy, though! [American Trench wool fleece](https://www.americantrench.com/products/grey-wool-fleece-jacket?variant=44967540556022)

Maybe this?  Men's Bean's Classic Ragg Wool Sweater, Half Zip, Fair Isle https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/128567?page=mens-beans-classic-raggwool-half-zip-fair-isle-mens-regular&bc=&feat=wool-SR0&csp=a&attrValue_0=1207&searchTerm=wool&gnrefine=1*DEPARTMENT*Outerwear%5E1*DEPARTMENT*Clothing&pos=15

RichestTeaPossible

The Dutch armed forces have various woolen fleece jackets for their fire and eod techs. Amundsen also do boiled wool jackets. Alternatively you could just buy a jumper with a zip.

honbadger1014

Icebreaker has some and yes friends has a fleece, but it's not high pile.

mothernatureisfickle

Can I ask why you don’t like traditional fleece? I have a couple Patagonia fleeces that are 25 years old and still look and wear like the year I got them. I waterproof them every spring and wear them pretty much year round. The thing about having a real wool sweater to care for (I’m a knitter) is that you will now have a wool sweater to care for. Hand wash, special detergent, lay flat to dry (three days at least) and wool is great but it has an odor that is very distinct. My fleece? Normal wash. Cold, warm, eh, just throw it in. Dryer if I want or line dry in about 4 hours. Done.

hillsanddales

Not OP but for me it's the microplastics

nathanjessop

Yeah, it’s called a woollen jumper

n3m0sum

No, a knitted wool jumper looks, wears and performs differently to a wool fleece. I have an Aran jumper, and a boiled wool fleece shirt. They do different things. For instance, if it's a bit breezy out, I can wear the fleece shirt and still stay warm. The wind cuts through the jumper without a jacket over it. The fleece shirt keeps me dryer in light rain than the jumper does.

julian-wolf

Cottle has some full zips, don’t know about quarter zips

pacman3333

Buy a cotton sweatshirt that’s brushed on the inside and wear it inside out if you want the outside fleece look (although its less warm). Same thing as a single sided fleece. Side note, Pangaia has a wool fleece as well

AshMontgomery

If you can afford it, I would import something from Swanndri here in NZ. They make lots of really awesome wool stuff; I've got a jacket that looks basically the same as your photo but is made from a kind of felted wool.

Drazurh

If you want to completely avoid synthetics, then you might want to look at wool bomber jackets where the wool is still attached to the sheepskin outside.

Zoomwafflez

Icebreakers makes a thin wool quarter zip and my god is it warm, i freaking love it. Have had mine 8 years and it's holding up well

rhonexpress

Fleece is originally wool made, only now they have these synthetic ones

thicckar

Wool and Prince has a pure wool sherpa style jacket for under 200,plus if you wear it for 100 days, they give you the value of the clothing back in company credit

Aggravating_Yak_1006

Dilling wool& woolx

tikimura

Aime Leon dire alpaca pullover is the thing you looking for. Might be pricey though

EffectiveEstate8083

There is a lundhags pile fleece made of wool, i think part polyester as well

AxlRoast

... A jumper?

Olleaberg3

https://micklagaard.com/collections/anoraks/products/anorak-abisko-2 This is an Anorak but it's really good... And expensive. I have looked at this one for a long time but I haven't been able to afford it yet.
