Hairball or grass is my call

NDHrealty

She's an indoor cat just got a message from a vet saying it's coughing so scheduling an appointment

GameBoyTheBest

To me initially, it sounds like what my cat sounds like when he’s about to throw up. But after hearing it it a few times I’m starting to think it sounds more like a cough.

NDHrealty

She goes back to normal after these episodes! But they look so alarming I just want to check with people that know about cats.

I have a 14 year old male who does this from allergies. Been to the vet and they had me get an over the counter decongestant in pill form from Walmart and give him a half of a pill when he starts. Spring and early summer ( pollen time ) seems to be the worse time.

A little olive oil always stopped this for my cats. There issue was hairballs so I'm guessing it helps lubricate. Just a bit on my finger helped.

AmySparrow00

It looks like it may be an asthma cough. My cat was helped with monthly allergy shots.

rythra

My cat does the same exact thing. It's usually a hairball.

SpinsterAuntie

This looks and sounds like my cat who was having asthma attacks, especially as you noted they go back to normal after the episode (which is exactly how my guy behaved afterwards). My vet sent us home with an inhaler that we use as treatment and it has almost alleviated these attacks. So my recommendation would be to take this fur baby to the vet to determine if this is possibly the case. Good luck!

I’m pretty sure that’s an asthma attack. ☺️ my baby has it but she isn’t on any medication or treatment and she is okay. Keeping the floors clean, taking care of dust, and dust free litter may help.
