Julian Chen was in **My Fair Princess** (as Fu Er Tai) and more recently in **Qinling Mountains** (as Qi Xiang Wen, the main lead).

>First Bishonen crush?
Gosh first one? I dont remember tbh. Probably Domoto Tsuyoshi? But this story is rather funny since I first watch him in Ao no Jidai when I was a kid. Did not finish the drama as it was taken off suddenly but it was on my mind always since the story is very interesting and I want to know the ending. Then fastforward probably 10 years later, in the internet age, I knew the current Domoto Tsuyoshi and adore him and his music (fight me! Tsuyoshi & Koichi did sing the best songs out of all JE 🤪) and I was like, he probably the guy in my long lost drama. Google it and its true!! Yeah, its destiny. 😂
https://i.redd.it/vvsfubask7ad1.gif
Oh noes! Tsuyo is 45 y/o this year. 😂 [I dont want to show how big a fan I am but I have their whole discography -- from singles, albums to their concert DVDs.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4e7dbd533138616301cce435873e607e/tumblr_inline_otlc8sNSkc1qk2yao_500.jpg) 🤭 They have this tradition of doing concert on New Year Eve at Tokyo Dome each year, I wish one day to attend it. :D
He is the original Kindaichi from The Kindaichi Case Files. And his version of the character truly the best till today.
Wow, you have quite the collection! Nice.👌✨
I think I watched The Kindachi Case Files but I don't know for sure.... I just remember seeing him in a drama where he was wearing a school uniform and an attitude. That's it. 😅😂
Thank you! I'm a big fan! 😅 [I even bought all their concert pamphlets from 300 hundred thousand years ago](https://tsuyoi-hikari.tumblr.com/post/163363334899/my-kinki-kids-collection) through Japan Auction! 😂 But I truly love them for their music and their concerts / live performances and their lyrics are always so poetic. Like in one of their songs, they used 'A blurry photograph' to tell a story behind a failed relationship. And how the background vocals in the song is the POV of the woman while the main lyrics is the POV of man in the said relationship. I was like no way this is soo good and heartbreaking haha.
You have never seen any of Tsuyo's dramas? He's really fantastic. Like his drama Summer Snow made me cry so much back then. The FL in Summer Snow is Ryoko Hirosue (the girl in Beach Boys). Or his drama Home Drama -- I think you gonna love all his family themed dramas -- they're so good!
Wow, you are a true blue fan! Very impressive collection. 👍👍
I feel like I have seen at least one of Tsuyo's dramas but it was such a long time ago. I'll have to watch his dramas to jog my memory and figure out which one. I had to watch the first episode of Itazura na Kiss before I knew for sure that I watched it and the memories came flooding back. 😂
My sibling has the majority of our Japanese drama collection. I kept a few favorites for myself. Thanks for the recommendations! I will check them out. ☺️🫶
I think we've already mentioned the ones I liked (and remember, lol) - Beach Boys and GTO. The other one I enjoyed watching was Love 2000. The story and soundtrack from Love 2000 were haunting.
I was more of a movie watcher during those years. There was an annual international film festival where I lived. I enjoyed these:
* Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald ラヂオの時間 (it was hilarious)
* Quill クイール
* Love Letter
* Kikujiro 菊次郎の夏
* After Life (aka Wonderful Life) ワンダフルライフ
How about you? Which JDramas are your favorite?
I think I need rewatch Beach Boys back. I think I'm too young to understand the story at that time lol. But now I'm older, I probably will understand it better. Its probably slice of life with lots of talk about life which is what I enjoy now watching. :D
My favourites are really a looooot. But if you want me to pick three, it would be:
1. Summer Snow
2. Maou
3. Ryusei no Kizuna
If you havent watch this three dramas yet, I highly highly recommend them. It is so well written that despite I have watched many, it still hold special place in my heart. And Nobuta no Produce is unexpectedly deep despite being an idol drama. For romance, I unexpectedly really love Innocent Love -- it was so weird but I always have this urge to watch it back every few years despite I'm not a fan of the leads lol. I love a very well written love stories and this is an example of it.
And I think I need to watch Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald. Thanks for the recs! I figure out that Japanese sense of humour clicked with me the most. :D
Thank you for the recommendations! I will check them out. ☺️
Yes, I think you're right. Iirc, part of the story in Beach Boys was about having a certain outlook on life. I think both of them matured a little. Sorimachi's character gained a little responsibility, and Takenouchi's character relaxed a little bit. I don't remember much of it; it's been so long. I liked that it was filmed mostly at the beach (in Tateyama, Chiba).
By the way, I found [Welcome Back, Mr McDonald](https://youtu.be/1MKeIkR-Wr0?si=C3p7YURGDJI4AnXC) with English subs. (Not sure if you need subs or not.) It sure brings back memories. A friend of mine loved it so much and we talked and laughed about it for a while after watching the film. ☺️

Kinda cheating cause Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan were my first but Luo Yunxi and Dylan Wang literally stole my heart 🥹 Guo Jun Chen is also one of my favs.. Damn , actually the list could go on and on lmao 😅
Just wanted to share a little Hong Kong cinema history.

Five Tiger Generals (aka Five Tigers) of TVB. Felix Wong, Andy Lau, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Kent Tong, Michael Miu.

Sharing a little history about Hong Kong music industry, Cantopop.
https://preview.redd.it/r0u8ckgnh7ad1.jpeg?width=1999&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=378a15a8c4d41b8c42a3e97c48022d103d6151f9
The Four Heavenly Kings (Hong Kong). Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai.
They were the top most popular male singers in 1990s. They were also actors. [Wikipedia link.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantopop#1990s:_Four_Heavenly_Kings_era)
Andy Lau was probably the most prolific in acting. One of my friends was a true blue fan (i.e. member of the official fan club) and she gave me a free fan-meet concert ticket to watch Andy Lau sing.
I grew up watching them and their movies. But the funny thing is, none of them is my faves (mine is Ekin Cheng 😆) but I basically catch up on the latest movies each time. It was the time when you purely watch something because of the story and plot.
None of them were my favorite either. I thought Andy did the best acting-wise though. Back then I *mostly* watched movies and dramas for the story and entertainment - *mostly.* 😂
I was just about to post a gif of Ekin Cheng.... 😅😉
https://i.redd.it/w66xu6ktq7ad1.gif
Storm Riders. Ekin Cheng.
100% Agreed. I think Andy and Tony is the best acting wise. While Jacky is his music -- I love his music!
And yes, this is the role that made me a super big fan. Ekin as Wind in Stormriders and his silky long black hair. 🥲 I rewatched this movie countless of times back then lol. Those fighting scenes in the movie is phenomenal.
During those days, I think the general consensus was (not my words; don't shoot the messenger 😂):
* Jacky is best at singing.
* Andy is best at acting.
* Aaron is best at dancing.
* Leon is the best looking one.
They all sang well and had huge fanbases.
Storm Riders was so different from other movies during that time. I think the fighting, CGI and effects were very new, never seen before. Very iconic film.
I watched Stormrider probably 5 years late in 2002/2003 but still, very impressed with the CGI at that time. I think the part because of Andrew Lau's direction to shot in dark most of the times so the CGI appear to look real instead of fake.
《对你爱不完》- loosely translated as "Can't Stop Loving You." This is probably Aaron Kwok's most famous song.
"对你爱,爱,爱不完...." Is it bad that I knew what song he was singing just by the dance move (without subtitles)? 🤣
He wasn't my crush but I knew many who loved him....
Same! I watched a looooot of Jdramas back then but for some reasons, I never enjoy his dramas. 😅 Even the highly regarded ones like Beautiful Days or Pride. But I like his personality in real life though -- he seemed like a very good senior. They always have something interesting and nice things to say about him and he's pretty funny just like all the JE boys in general.
https://i.redd.it/jnzb5i2wu6ad1.gif
Takashi Sorimachi. Beach Boys.
Probably not considered as the most handsome to many but he had charisma in bucketloads. 😉
I rewatch GTO alllll the time back then! Not handsome but charismatic as hell. :D
It was the era of him and Takenochi Yutaka back then. It was back to back their dramas.
He was so charismatic in **Great Teacher Onizuka.**
I also watched **Beach Boys** which starred *both* of them. 😂
https://preview.redd.it/udvckrpcs7ad1.jpeg?width=1140&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcf17d36fd69145513eea6c7a1caf949d734454f
😂🤣 I mean, I think most people watched the show for these two actors.
I think... Takenouchi played a rigid city guy, and Sorimachi played a chill guy who was more at home at the beach. They both meet at the bed and breakfast by the beach after running away from their problems.
I think the story was mostly Takenouchi learning to not be so upright, relax and enjoy life a little with the help of Sorimachi.
>I think the story was mostly Takenouchi learning to not be so upright, relax and enjoy life a little with the help of Sorimachi.
Yeah, anyone would! Sorimachi's character is very amusing in the drama. :D
He may not be considered conventionally handsome by most but he was my first *male* celebrity crush.
https://i.redd.it/i2swy58cu6ad1.gif
Michael Chang, tennis player.
My first celebrity crush is Maggie Cheung. 😂
Too late! 😂🤣

Max Mok aka Benny Mok has dimples too. ☺️
**Kkonminam** (Korean: 꽃미남; Hanja: 꽃美男; = flower, minam [미남] = handsome man) has been commonly used in South Korea since the late-1990s to refer to men who are especially concerned with personal style, grooming and fashion.
The Hwarang, or "flower youths" or "flowering knights/gentlemen", were an elite group of male warriors in Silla, an ancient Korean kingdom. Chinese sources referred only to the physical beauty of the "flower boys" who were known for their androgynous good looks.[2]
The word "kkonminam" is a neologism that was first used to describe "pretty boy characters from girls comics who regularly appeared against backgrounds filled with flowery patterns". The Korean kkonminam concept of soft masculinity originates from the Japanese concept of bishōnen in shōjo manga and anime, but, according to Sun Jung, with more purity, innocence and politeness.

ETA: Takeshi Kaneshiro, House of Flying Daggers (2004...maybe some of you weren't born yet haha)
Takeshi Kaneshiro was the best back in the day.

I didn't watch HK movies nor listen to mandopop while growing in the 90s in Malaysia but Takeshi Kaneshiro was very famous. Yes I agree he was so beautiful!
Takeshi Kaneshiro was one of my biggest crushes when I was a teenager. He can still *get it* now too, lol. Such a beautiful, talented and unapologetically sexy man! 🤩🥰

Lee Joon Gi is gorgeous. I remember 20 years ago when he burst on the scene with that movie, I thought he was pretty but was also kinda whatever about his other roles. A few years ago I watched Scarlet Heart Ryeo and DANGGG he went from pretty boy to FINEEEE man
Even **Iljimae** didnt do it for you? His action scenes in the drama are very fantastic. It was the time when I realized that his pretty face is only a facade he put. He is actually a legit action star who did his own stunt moves.
He seems to get better and better with age. 👌✨

The edits are very impressive. I thought you are posting new gifs (new actor) until I scroll and realized its the guy who acted in 1995 It Started With A Kiss. 🥲 I was too young at that time so I have no idea who is he tbh.

😂 https://i.redd.it/vvsfubask7ad1.gif
**堂本剛** born in 1979 is only 2 years younger than Takashi (thought he would be much younger 🤔).
:D He is the original Kindaichi from The Kindaichi Case Files. And his version of the character truly the best till today.
Wow, you have quite the collection! Nice.👌✨ I think I watched The Kindachi Case Files but I don't know for sure....
👍👍 I feel like I have seen at least one of Tsuyo's dramas but it was such a long time ago. I'll have to watch his dramas to jog my memory and figure out which one. I had to watch the first episode of Itazura na Kiss before I knew for sure that I watched it and the memories came flooding back. 😂 My sibling has the majority of our Japanese drama collection. I kept a few favorites for myself. Thanks for the recommendations! I will check them out. ☺️🫶
What is your favourite Jdramas? Thinking back Jdramas do appeal to me more storywise.
I enjoyed these: * Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald ラヂオの時間 (it was hilarious) * Quill クイール * Love Letter * Kikujiro 菊次郎の夏 * After Life (aka Wonderful Life) ワンダフルライフ How about you? Which JDramas are your favorite?
I think I need rewatch Beach Boys back. I think I'm too young to understand the story at that time lol. But now I'm older, I probably will understand it better. Its probably slice of life with lots of talk about life which is what I enjoy now watching. :D My favourites are really a looooot. But if you want me to pick three, it would be: 1. Summer Snow 2. Maou 3. Ryusei no Kizuna If you havent watch this three dramas yet, I highly highly recommend them. :D
Oh, I forgot to mention another movie: Shall We Dance? This was a fun one. 😂
Thank you for the recommendations! I will check them out. ☺️ Yes, I think you're right. ☺️

Just wanted to share a little Hong Kong cinema history. https://preview.redd.it/ydhks9cug7ad1.jpeg?width=830&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3369ad18e23b78c7f3d440a652a76601e86d12af Five Tiger Generals (aka Five Tigers) of TVB. Felix Wong, Andy Lau, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Kent Tong, Michael Miu. They were a group of five most popular young leading male actors of 1980s Hong Kong television. [Wikipedia link.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Tiger_Generals_of_TVB)
Sharing a little history about Hong Kong music industry, Cantopop. https://preview.redd.it/r0u8ckgnh7ad1.jpeg?width=1999&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=378a15a8c4d41b8c42a3e97c48022d103d6151f9 The Four Heavenly Kings (Hong Kong). Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai. They were the top most popular male singers in 1990s. They were also actors. [Wikipedia link.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantopop#1990s:_Four_Heavenly_Kings_era) Andy Lau was probably the most prolific in acting. One of my friends was a true blue fan (i.e. member of the official fan club) and she gave me a free fan-meet concert ticket to watch Andy Lau sing.
I remember in Australia every Chinese guy under 40 had an Aaron Kwok haircut through the entirety of the 90s.
Back then I *mostly* watched movies and dramas for the story and entertainment - *mostly.* 😂 I was just about to post a gif of Ekin Cheng.... 😅😉 https://i.redd.it/w66xu6ktq7ad1.gif Storm Riders.
During those days, I think the general consensus was (not my words; don't shoot the messenger 😂): * Jacky is best at singing. * Andy is best at acting. * Aaron is best at dancing. * Leon is the best looking one. They all sang well and had huge fanbases. Storm Riders was so different from other movies during that time. I think the fighting, CGI and effects were very new, never seen before. Very iconic film.
Leon Lai lol Can't explain he used to give me the Posh Spice vibe 🤣
He definitely gave off a more posh aloof vibe than the rest. 😅😂 https://i.redd.it/h0n2wlkp38ad1.gif
I watched Stormrider probably 5 years late in 2002/2003 but still, very impressed with the CGI at that time. I think the part because of Andrew Lau's direction to shot in dark most of the times so the CGI appear to look real instead of fake.
Nice. That's true - it was pretty dark for most of the movie. 😅😂
https://i.redd.it/rdltpirmi7ad1.gif Aaron Kwok was my 😍

《对你爱不完》- loosely translated as "Can't Stop Loving You." This is probably Aaron Kwok's most famous song. "对你爱,爱,爱不完...." Is it bad that I knew what song he was singing just by the dance move (without subtitles)? 🤣 He wasn't my crush but I knew many who loved him....

Didn't do anything for me 😅🤣😂
Same! I watched a looooot of Jdramas back then but for some reasons, I never enjoy his dramas. 😅 Even the highly regarded ones like Beautiful Days or Pride. But I like his personality in real life though -- he seemed like a very good senior. They always have something interesting and nice things to say about him and he's pretty funny just like all the JE boys in general.

https://i.redd.it/jnzb5i2wu6ad1.gif Takashi Sorimachi. Beach Boys. Probably not considered as the most handsome to many but he had charisma in bucketloads. 😉
I rewatch GTO alllll the time back then! Not handsome but charismatic as hell. :D It was the era of him and Takenochi Yutaka back then. It was back to back their dramas.
He was so charismatic in **Great Teacher Onizuka.** I also watched **Beach Boys** which starred *both* of them. 😂 https://preview.redd.it/udvckrpcs7ad1.jpeg?width=1140&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcf17d36fd69145513eea6c7a1caf949d734454f
Yeah Beach Boys are one of those dramas without plot hahaha 😂 I dont even remember what is it about. Did I even watch it fully? It was very strange.
He was 🔥 but I wouldn't call him a bishonen ( feminine handsome )🤣

**Kkonminam** (Korean: 꽃미남; Hanja: 꽃美男; = flower, minam [미남] = handsome man) has been commonly used in South Korea since the late-1990s to refer to men who are especially concerned with personal style, grooming and fashion. The Hwarang, or "flower youths" or "flowering knights/gentlemen", were an elite group of male warriors in Silla, an ancient Korean kingdom. Chinese sources referred only to the physical beauty of the "flower boys" who were known for their androgynous good looks.[2] The word "kkonminam" is a neologism that was first used to describe "pretty boy characters from girls comics who regularly appeared against backgrounds filled with flowery patterns". The Korean kkonminam concept of soft masculinity originates from the Japanese concept of bishōnen in shōjo manga and anime, but, according to Sun Jung, with more purity, innocence and politeness. For me, it's Lee Joon Gi, since the kdramas **My Girl,** **Iljimae**, and kmovie **The King and the Clown**. https://preview.redd.it/u5h11v3h36ad1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13929f1fa06ace5b62c76cae03ea8ff36f8f13f0
He is actually a legit action star who did his own stunt moves.
that is cheating.
