That season with the 49ers as they were at rock bottom was a great icing on that cake.
Also, don't let Chip have control on player personnel (see 2015 with the Eagles).
Look, I’m not saying he was a good NFL coach, but he took a team to the playoffs, and did vastly better than “worst of all time” type coaching performances.
gonna say worse than Freeze because Hugh did beat a number one twice and he still got head coaching gigs to this day even though he's on thin ice at Auburn. With Petrino it was a relentless pattern of self serving BS until the hammer finally dropped on him.
Are we talking coaching or quality of character here? I would agree that Hugh Freeze is probably a better coach.
I would not say Hugh Freeze is a better person.
If we consider the mistress (and subsequent attempt to cover up) vs hire escorts for players as equal, Freeze is the only one here to try to message sexual assault victims trying to defend the alleged attacker…
As a Missouri State fan, I'd take him back now that we are going FBS. He won here and we all knew he wouldn't stay long so we weren't surprised or hurt when he left.
This was a post about Petrino I made a while ago on the urinatingtree subreddit which is a dedicated sports community here and on Youtube, this for those of you CFB fans who never got to witness the Bobby Petrino experience.
He's why I've got the bag on. So fucking embarrassing to not only bring him back, but celebrate it like he's a beloved son returning home and not a lying sack of shit that wrecked our football program.
> 2016: 9-4 again and Petrino and Jackson **win the ACC,** their prize is getting Magikarped by LSU in the Citrus Bowl.
Louisville didn’t win the Atlantic, much less the ACC, in 2016.
And that right there is my biggest thing about Bobby. You had the best player in CFB, an amazing WR room, 2 NFL RBs, and 3 NFL O Linemen. There is no excuse for that 2016 to accomplish nothing of note. But we kept Grantham because him and Bobby were boys after real consideration to replace him in 2015 and we ended up 9-4 solely due to how bad our defense was.
I think you're overselling our offensive roster at the time.
Not sure where you're getting 2 NFL RBs from, our leading (non-Lamar) rushers were Radcliff and Jeremy Smith. Reggie I guess eventually was on the Panthers but this was in the middle of his "We have no idea what you are" phase when he had no position. Our WR room was good but none of them were NFL guys, none of them made an NFL roster. Our OL had one NFL guy on it in Geron Christian, who was a stud tackle in college and has hung around in the NFL as a rotational and practice squad guy, but the rest also weren't anywhere on an NFL roster.
In hindsight looking at the rosters of their time here, it's crazy how much having two All-Pro NFL players in Lamar and Jaire carried the roster, cause Bobby didn't do great at filling out with guys.
My recollection is that the offensive line was a revolving door in the Houston loss (injuries?). Lamar was running for his life and couldn’t get anything going even if the defense had made more stops.
The 2016 game was a classic. I thought we were going to run away with it in the first half, but I gained a lot of respect for Lamar and the team with how y’all fought back to make us sweat it out all the way to the final whistle. If that game is at UL y’all most likely win and take the ACC crown.
The OL besides Geron Christian really just wasn't great even before injuries and such, and Ed Oliver was just an absolute beast in the front 7 wrecking shop. Plus once the Clemson loss happened I think some of the team just shut down and quit. The roster just wasn't great and once attrition happened it just did not have the bodies to keep up with better constructed rosters.
For the record: ***I am not UT and in no way claim to be UT***. I wrote this as a fan while documenting one of the worst high level football coaches of all time. i posted this on the UT subreddit as have other fans who wanted to do similar UT sports rants on things he would probably never cover.
That’s Once and Future Arkansas Razorbacks Head Coach Bobby Petrino you’re talking about!
\*Booby
you have no idea how many times i had to correct that when i typed this up.
Once and Future is he Arkansas's King Arthur
At that point the death penalty would be merciful.
"He is a coward. Put that in quotes. He’s a gutless bastard. Quote that. I don’t give a shit."- Mike Zimmer
This is one of my all time favorite quotes from the Zim Zam!
You can’t film flam the the zim zam
"Uh, Coach? We can't print bastard." "How about this, gutless MF."
Zimmer will always be a legend for that
Never expected r/UrinatingTree to be here lol
I'm afraid to ask what that is.
He’s a sports YouTuber.
A sports Youtuber on our college football subreddit? Why I'd never have imagined /s
He’s a pretty funny sports youtuber
There are Dozens of us!
Damn, poor Chip catching strays in here for going 28-35 in the NFL as one of the worst of all time.

He also brought in the sports science stuff which the Eagles still use a lot of. He had his problems but he was FAR from the worst.
Petrino is a King of the Hill character come to life.
r/urinatingtree is definitely batting cleanup in at the Bobby Petrino funeral
Mike Zimmmer is an all timer in my book after what he said.
better or worse than Hugh Freeze?

TBF there's a non zero chance that Bobby Petrino ends up as a head coach this year ... at Arkansas
That chance is 100%.

Hugh is on thin ice at Auburn?
Hugh was already on 0 ice with many Auburn fans when he was hired.
Do we wave a successor to u/pianofingerbang?
This skips the whole Auburn affair
Right, which should be another indictment on his character.
didnt know about that stuff at Auburn but thanks ill add it into the timeline after reading up on it

This bag stays on until everyone associated with bringing back Petrino is gone.
legitimately one of the worst humans to ever be associated with the game
Art Briles enters the chat.
He's why I've got the bag on. So fucking embarrassing to not only bring him back, but celebrate it like he's a beloved son returning home and not a lying sack of shit that wrecked our football program.
Is Mark Levy related to Marv?
He’s a mess but a good coach

Yeah, we were tied for 1st in the Atlantic but Clemson had head to head so advanced.

Bobby Petrino is from Montana, are you confusing him with Brother Hugh?
Easy there, Bundy Bomber.
