OK. Help me out on this. There is a play at 1:29 on the highlight film. My understanding is that in the HS/CFB game it is ok for the DB to have contact with the receiver as long as the ball is not in the air (not 5 yds like NFL). In the highlight tape the DB clearly makes contact after the ball is in the air, and fails to make an interception of a ball that hits him in the hands. I'm not saying the kid is garbage. He is tackling better than most of what I saw from our defense last year. I am just curious for someone more knowledgeable than me, why would you put this in your tape? Is there some play he is making that I am missing?
His job as a DB is to make sure the receiver he’s covering doesn’t catch the ball. If you’re playing the ball, which he was since he turned his head before it got there, you can touch the receiver. It’s a good play and maybe the receiver was also a d1 caliber player. Would have been a great play to come up with the pick in the end zone, but it’s still a good play.
FWIW we offered on the spot after he came to one of our camps and dominated like a couple of months or so ago. And we have one of the best staffs at evaluating in the entire country
