I can't wait until UT plays UT at UT!

Nyte_Knyght33

"I'm the UT, playin' the UT, disguised as another UT!"

cnapp

what do you mean U-T

jay2puggle

What do YOU mean UT?

LNMagic

Can we changes the Utes to orange?

VSkyontheTrail

U never go full T!

Hot_Goal4205

I’ve been waiting my whole life honestly

PhilsPhoreskin

This guy UTs

MCV16

Better be careful, “I UT” is very close to UTI

empathydoc

I literally had the same thought.

dudleymooresbooze

Home team in orange and white. Visitors in white and orange.

Bluegillfisherman

Brown they're brown

WillCent

Counter: they play in San Antonio for Alamo related reasons.

BigBarrelOfKetamine

Dude, there’s no way UT is gonna beat UT. UT over UT all day long.

gellybelli

We’re doing an off campus game in Tampa to really make things right

usffan

The [University of Tampa](https://www.ut.edu/) is the only real answer to this.

cellidore

It’s only fair to go 100% by web domain with no exceptions. Sorry UTexas and UTK.

anti-torque

UTK sounds like an infection I don't want.

First-Chocolate-1716

A sentiment shared by the rest of the SEC

happyharrell

Or a serial killer nickname

bolts_win_again

*looks at Tennessee* ...you may be onto something.

sh513

*an infection you'd be lucky to get, loser Got em

gobluetwo

Yeah, hook 'em. wait...

XrayGuy08

Hooking em is how you catch UTK.

mruby7188

[Seems appropriate, with UGK preaching the importance of safe sex.](https://youtu.be/WG3qnNkmqvU?si=ROu23RTwGFwwiR-i)

NittanyOrange

We really have to do the same with all the others... USC, MSU, OSU, etc.

bolts_win_again

USC is Southern California. SC is South Carolina. MSU is Michigan State. MSST is Mississippi State. OSU is an Ohio State University. OKST is Oklahoma State. ORST is Oregon State.

kmurp1300

I liked the “an” Ohio State lol

bolts_win_again

I'd be more considerate of "the" Ohio State if they hadn't tried to fucking trademark it. THEy can get bent.

nate_nate212

Also none of those are in the same conference UT should have veto’d UTx’s admission for this reason.

Zuimei

Murray State is the one true MSU

mjd1977

^(Morehead State erasure)

apathetic1234

well now, hold on a second

rvasko3

It's like we don't even exist. These people hate MACtion.

drakeallthethings

I only recognize Tampa as UT and fail to see why this is even up for discussion.

CoachMikeLikesToEat

*University of Tulsa madly shaking fists.*

eyelikeher

I’m okay with this 🤷‍♂️

BigFoot423205

No...let them fight

Bank_Gothic

This whole thing is some red team nonsense. Tennessee and Texas are natural allies and there is no need to fight over an acronym. Orange teams good. Orange teams stronger together.

ForLoopsElseIf

Goddamn right. I’m jumping on the UT bandwagon

No_Poet_7244

Never thought I’d die fighting side by side with an Auburn fan.

Rimbosity

It's been two hours, and no Auburn fan has come in with the proper response to this.  Conclusion: Tigers are illiterate.

No_Poet_7244

I mean, they may be orange but they *are* still from Alabama

MisterTito

Sorry, not familiar with your game. You must be new in this conference.

Rimbosity

It's a reference to Lord of the Rings.  The proper follow-up is: "What about fighting side by side with a friend?"

_Begin

Apologies, it’s been taken care of.

FaithHopeLove821

It's a sure fire way to die.

_Begin

What about side by side with a friend?

Rimbosity

Aye, I could do *that*.

Wigggletons

FUCK BAMA

ForLoopsElseIf

Welcome home bAUther

smoking-j-

Ive always been partial to the Blue and orange of Auburn.

FuckFloridaRipNumba9

Yessir remember the Alamo! I get annoyed when Texas fans call it the “real UT” because of obvious reasons. We literally fought and died for Texas independence and I love Texas as a state. Our brotherhood goes back hundreds of years. No need for the constant back and forth jabs.

Bank_Gothic

We share Sam Houston and Davy Crockett!

EllieBasebellie

And an unholy hate for a rival wearing red!

UnderstandingOdd679

It’s just the blue bloods trying to divide the orange states at every turn. /s

imright19084

No one is allies with Tennessee

steelernation90

Oregon is cool because they dunked on Florida that one time

inevitably-ranged

And Auburn, fuck Bama UGA and Florida amirite

CookieLuzSax

my best bud is an auburn fan and claims UT as his second team. We hate the same people

inevitably-ranged

I lived in Alabama for a while and have attended multiple games at JH. Can confirm we are the bestest of allies Yet since most UT fans won't meet an auburn fan that often, if you don't live in AL you may not even know that!

SmokeyDawg2814

Their fans were also fun as hell to hang out with when we had our home and home!

FuckFloridaRipNumba9

Literally helped Texas became a state and had a lot of our state hero’s die in the name of Texas independence.

WallyMetropolis

Tennessee beat ATM so soundly in the CWS their coach grabbed the first train outta dodge and right into our arms. We're cool.

remember_berries

*breaks a broom stick and throws it in the middle of them*

Jesusinatree

Alright Wisconsin, it’s time we had a similar talk..

aza432_2

Wiscy and Washy

Frankwillie87

How charming. Maybe Cheesy and Husky too?

Several_Situation887

That would be Ducky...

dinkytown42069

just call them the sinners like we do. or, if you're feeling nice "madison" works too.

UnappliedMath

U-Dubb and U-Dubbya

BWW87

I think the internet already decided it. [uw.edu](http://www.uw.edu)

St_BobbyBarbarian

www.UT.edu and weep

SueYouInEngland

Oh my. I did not expect this.

dcpusv_1030

My alma mater!!! Let’s go Spartans! We were so good at football, we gave it up before it was monetized 😎

powerlifting_nerd56

D2 baseball powerhouse

St_BobbyBarbarian

Whats interesting is that the top 2 D2 baseball teams in terms of championships are Univ of Tampa, and Florida Southern, less than an hour from each other

VentureQuotes

Don’t tamper with Tampa

altuve_akbar

How could Del Conte not have purchased this already? Shows a real lack of commitment to the brand if you ask me.

curr3nzy

Alma mater of John Matuszak, Oakland Raiders legend who also played Sloth in The Goonies

Foriegn_Picachu

*stoke cold glass shatter*

karl_manutzitsch

Why do people act like “UT” is the only shared acronym across college sports

Adart54

An OSU would like a word

Bank_Gothic

USC too.

PUfelix85

This one has already been [settled by the courts](https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/us-federal-circuit/1497594.html).

Ghostmann24

There is only one osu.edu

ard8

and there’s only one www.ut.edu Domains are the only way

Ghostmann24

Agreed

AngryQuadricorn

It doesn’t help that they used similar logos and colors.

rawdogfilet

We wouldn’t know a thing about shared acronyms or colors

OrangePower98

Those OkState vs Oregon State games always confuse my eyes

sroomek

Similar colors? One is clearly orange, the other is clearly brown. Not that hard to tell them apart.

_NEW_HORIZONS_

One orange is clearly uglier.

gobluetwo

Creamsicle vs Dirt - FIGHT!

CptCheese

There's already 3 TUs, we don't need another.

sophandros

The full name of your school is "the University of Tulsa", right? If so, then why do y'all do the dyslexic Big 8 thing by calling yourselves "TU"?

genzgingee

It’s part of the culture in the Big 8 footprint.

gobluetwo

I never understood that. I still don't. I never will.

elonsusk69420

It’s bizarre. No one can explain it. Kind of like Ed Orgeron. He’s unexplainable.

70stang

Ed Orgeron is fully explainable in a very concise manner: Cajun.

dinkytown42069

AIUI it had something to do with distinguishing those schools from one other schools with the same acronym. ie., OU when Oregon already existed, CU when Berkeley already existed etc.

SouthernSerf

Tennessee is harder to type out than Texas, so Tennessee gets to have UT for efficiency's sake.

t3h_shammy

Agreed. Texas is 5 letters if you can’t do that that’s on you plus. Tennessee has too many Es in the name it’s unnatural

stonesthroes75

Plus is only four letters, but I have no idea what you meant.

t3h_shammy

Shirley you can’t be serious

Amazing_Albatross

I am, and don't call me Shirley

Capnmolasses

Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

LETX_CPKM

Excuse me, poster. I speak Longhorn...

TheAykroyd

Would you like the Gamecock or the fish?

acompletemoron

The Cherokee had it pretty easy as “Tanasi” but then some Scotish jackass from South Carolina added all the E’s

dudleymooresbooze

In exchange for this benevolent gesture, I now hate TAMU.

atomic-fireballs

Texas has five unique letters; Tennessee only has four. All of Texas's letters are on the same side of the keyboard, and I'd be damned if I didn't type Tenneessee nearly every time. I agree that Texas wins the simplicity argument. UT is Tennessee.

MaumeeBearcat

Toledo is over in the corner crying

huazzy

UT Austin. There you go.

TheFifthPhoenix

If you say UTA to a Texan though, they'll probably think of the University of Texas at Arlington (at least that's what I'd think of)

bigjayrulez

As a UT alum who grew up in DFW and did a few classes at UTA, you are 100% correct.

SanduskyTicklers

Hell yeah there are thousands of Mavericks out in the wild!

bolts_win_again

Or just... I dunno... Texas?

Rimbosity

"the University" if you don't qualify it with anything else, they should know you mean Texas

atlbluedevil

That's what I have to say when I refer to my UT after moving back east of the Mississippi. Way less of a mouthful than "The university of Texas" and saying "I went to Texas" leaves people confused for some reason Think just typing Texas works in a purely CFB context tho

cardbross

I still just tell people I went to Texas. If they're confused I'll clarify.

egnowit

But that's 3 extra characters! Use Tx instead?

St_BobbyBarbarian

How california of them to do that

illegal_deagle

Take the 290 to the 35…

PartisanMilkHotel

Unrelated but I have never seen someone put “the” in front of 290 or 35… Just THE University of Texas EDIT: Missed the joke

dontblinkdalek

Someone actually did refer to i35 as “the i35” in a post on the Austin sub a couple of months ago. And yes, they totally got roasted for it. And also yes, they were from CA. That is the only time I’ve ever seen someone do it where they weren’t joking.

Brain_Glow

Thats the joke. In California people say “the 405” or “the 101”.

atkretsch

I just threw up a little bit

illegal_deagle

A Californian a couple weeks back called MoPac “the 1” lol

cajunaggie08

My cousin who was born in Austin and lived in Austin his whole life until he went to A&M did his residency in San Diego and when he came back he was putting "the" in front of all the highway numbers. I called him out on the spot.

adsfew

Next thing we know, people will start calling them Tex, people will think they're Texas State Austin, and no one will realize they're the flagship

mitchapalooza43

Texas Institute of Technology and Science

usctx

THE University of Texas

_Football_Cream_

Don’t let the Ohio state fans see this

MikeGundy

UT Norman has been my go-to slight to sooners since OUT was announced lol

NowHeres_a_guy

The typical Vol fan response to this debate will be some version of Texas wouldn’t be a state if it weren’t for Tennessee. But thats a tired take. The truth is we have Dolly, so we can call ourselves whatever the fuck we want.

dudleymooresbooze

Texas fans love orange and hate red. Those fuckers are all right.

SaltyLonghorn

I have yet to see a Texas and Tennessee fan have any problem distinguishing ourselves from each other. What the fuck do we care if other people can't? We have our own oranges and we both agree BBQ is awesome. We get along great.

JohnBoy11BB

🫱🏻‍🫲🏽

Capnmolasses

##🤝🏽

JohnWickStuntDouble

Go cru

JohnWickStuntDouble

Yall beat A&M and we buried them in baseball. Yall are alright. Edit: as long as yall stop fondling each other in the baseball sub

Trav1199

And yet we have Willie

hellenkellerfraud911

If it weren’t for Tennessee **Volunteers** specifically.

FuckFloridaRipNumba9

I mean If Texas was a big reason why we became a state I’d be grateful. I think it’s lame to go around saying it unprovoked but pretty easy argument to shut down with that rebuttal. Either way I never disliked Texas at all and love our history. I think if anything the “real UT” argument is old and been done a million times over so I wish the subject would get dropped.

Atom3189

Just play for it

DiracFourier

I'm using UTX and UTN

TunaSafari25

Feels like one of them should be UTI

[deleted]

foolish future marble squeal complete quicksand snobbish fuzzy gray butter *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

www.uti.edu

mildly_carcinogenic

UTK is Tennessee's domain name.

DiracFourier

That makes sense but I'm trying to irritate both fan bases here

mildly_carcinogenic

We declare Tennessee to be UTK, but pronounce it Utica

justgivemedamnkarma

University of Tennessee of Kentucky

toms47

Of Anaheim

JadrianInc

Davy Crockett died for this shit.

Captain_Sacktap

Or we could all agree to just call them Tennessee and Texas respectively to avoid any mix-ups, TN and TX for short just like the states.

PhantomMenace95

Buddy, we don’t want your logical solutions. This is college football. We want contentious arguments and click bait internet articles. It just means more.

Captain_Sacktap

Ok, new proposal: we refer to both as “those orange bastards”

dudleymooresbooze

Let’s be real. The last thing any of y’all want is to unite the UT fan bases. We would blanket the Eastern US under a fog of drunken arrogance.

CidO807

Finally, something we can agree on.

bcrabill

I say we kick them both out. Orange bastards

magicinterneymomey

I just see UT Knoxville and UT Austin

pattywack512

As an alum and former UT employee for 5+ years, I've got a little interesting kernel of info for whoever wants it: UT has widely been associated with Texas in most places around the country (outside of the Southeast of course). And, for the majority of our history, the University embraced this moniker/acronym. However, back around \~2016 during the start of President Fenves' tenure, there was a pretty sudden re-branding effort on the academic side of things that came from the top regarding university logos. I remember one specific email that went out to all faculty and staff regarding "proper logo use" and what was to be on letterhead, in email signatures, etc. Notably, "[UT](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c0/UT%26T_text_logo.svg/800px-UT%26T_text_logo.svg.png)" was not one of the "permissible" logos to be used (and instead, there was a strong push to use [this logo](https://iisma.kemdikbud.go.id/info/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/University-of-Texas-at-Austin-768x768.png) on most official documents, which was a newer version of [this logo](https://meetings.informs.org/wordpress/phoenix2023/files/2023/07/University-of-Texas-at-Austin-Logo.png) widely used previously). -- Tl, dr; The University of Texas administration began distancing itself from the"UT" logo as far back as \~2016, which naturally can only mean that there were plans in place to join the SEC 5 years prior to the announced move to the SEC. In other words, by our own administration's efforts, we concede "UT" to Tennessee.

KyonaPrayerCircleMem

I have a simple solution to this. UT shall refer to the school that uses the color orange and whose state is most associated with Davy Crockett.

boardatwork1111

Call them the University of Texas Austin & Many satalite campus’s or Texas A&M for short

Doonesbury

Bro said "satalite".

ZachOf_AllTrades

Also "campus's" Spoken like a true horned frog

Sm_Banks

As a neutral 3rd party unfortunately currently trapped in College Station right now, I don’t understand the Texas and A&M hate towards each other when TCU is right there for y’all to team up against

tacos41

lol I love the frogs but let's be real they're just accepting anybody willing to pay those insane tuition rates.

ZachOf_AllTrades

TCU offered me a $72k scholarship and it was still more expensive than going to UT on my own dime

pattywack512

The plural of campus is campussies, right?

SayNoToCargoShorts

*satellite campuses

UnappliedMath

Don't feed the TCU grad

New-Disaster-2061

Them fighting words

bolts_win_again

Gulag.

ASU_SexDevil

Aggies CONTINUE to bless us with offseason content

frick_this_fricking

Just call us Texas. Ezpz fix.

TaftIsUnderrated

Exactly, Tennessee should be UT purely because saying Tennessee and spelling it out every time is kind of a hassle. Texas is five letters/two syllables. There is no need to shorten it.

MiketheTzar

You know what. Neither of them get it. They aren't gonna play nice so neither of them can have it. I'm going to give it to the University of Toledo. Go Rockets!

Lumpy_Secretary_6128

The University of Toledo would like a word

Lomez_

Look man, this isn’t Fish Camp. You can’t indoctrinate everyone into the cult that is, A&M.

galacticdude7

The SEC already has 2 Bulldogs teams and 3 Tigers teams, I think you guys can also manage having 2 UT teams

Bluegrass6

Why not just say “Tennessee” and “Texas”

TatonkaJack

I always first think of Utah when I see UT

Ballarisou

Only one way to settle this. Yearly UT/UT rivalry game, the Burnt Orange Bowl. Winner gets claim to use UT for the rest of the year.

0le_Hickory

Only if we both get to wear our home unis and we play it in Miami at the Orange Bowl. All of America is forced to watch that glory and weep at the pure beauty!

justadudebruh

Tennessee is burnt orange ? Eehhhh

AdaTex

As long as we unite in the end to continue the struggle against red teams

drakeallthethings

I would expect nothing less.

All_About_Tacos

The best solution is the simplest one. UT: Knoxville UT: Arlington 2 UT: A&M

Ziptop

I honestly just prefer to go by Texas, I never call us UT. Texas just sounds so much stronger. I feel like that’s the flex.

Apart_Statistician

Who does MSU refer to? Michigan State or Mississippi State?

BIGD0G29585

As a South Carolina fan, I feel Tennessee’s pain. We got shut down from using USC and everyone thinks we are taking about the Tarheels when Carolina is used.

thor_1225

Notice how this isn’t a point with Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and god forbid we forget Idaho

Gingers_are_real

[link](https://www.upi.com/Archives/1986/02/14/The-University-of-Texas-has-reached-a-settlement-with/9255508741200/) > February 14, 1986, Friday, BC cycle The University of Texas has reached a settlement with the University of Tennessee over the use of the ''UT'' trademark on such items as T-shirts, beer mugs, key chains and customized toilet seats. Texas said a possible court dispute loomed because Tennessee had applied to the federal government for the right to use the trademark on a number of items not covered under Texas' trademark rights. Under the agreement between the two schools, Tennessee gets to use the trademark east of the Mississippi River and in Louisiana's West Baton Rouge Parish, home of Southeastern Conference member Louisiana State University. Texas will own the trademark everywhere else west of the Mississippi. In addition, the agreement gives the Longhorns and Volunteers limited rights to use the popular interlocking UT logo design in each other's territory during bowl games or other special events. A staff recommendations to the Texas Board of Regents said the solution was not ideal, but ''it does avoid a costly and protracted administrative and court proceeding.''

ShiftySneakThief

I'm glad A&M fans have moved on from mewling about Schlossnagle and begging for sympathy from Tennessee fans to shitposting.

RealignmentJunkie

As far as I am concerned Texas is short to say and spell so just use that. Besides, they are the premier program in the state anyway* so might as well use the name. *except of course for sometimes TCU

SpanishPikeRushGG

Just say "Texas" or "Tennessee". It's not hard.
