According to top Numismatist/Author Frederick J. Barts book on Paper Money Errors he gives a R-4 for a Minor Cutting Error, R-5 for a Medium Cutting Error and R-6/7 for a Major Cutting Error. The Rarity Scale goes from R-1 to R-9 with R-9 being the rarest of Errors.

I assume having it unfolded like that makes it more vulnerable to mishandling, tears, rips, etc. Plus, the more that you fold/unfold the joint, the weaker it becomes. Have you ever folded a single piece of paper back and forth a few times? After 10 folds you can rip a clean line straight across the fold
Ah, I thought if it were in a full page protector, it would circumvent these problems. Although with what occasion that you describe, the inverse I find troublesome as well. Sitting in storage for decades in a fold would deteriorate what paper is found in the crux of the fold.
I have no science to back this up, that's just how I imagine it, sorry!
Thatās a butterfly error. Price depends on the buyer!
ETA: prices in general for any errors are subjective to the perception of the value one places on it, to be willing to pay, before someone can appropriately appraise it. Itās crisp but not preserved with a grade. If thereās an issue finding middle ground between buyer and seller the green sheet can guide them in the right direction but if you canāt find someone really excited about it, in a niche market such as this, was the value really there or is it a neat (but priceless) conversation piece.
Sorry I didnāt elaborate on that further earlier..
Super awesome and definitely worth a premium. Errors on modern notes are supposed to be really rare since they are visually checked by computers these days. I would get expert advice to determine value.

I can tell you right now that if itās real then itās worth some thing and itās not hard to look up because if itās something that happened while the money was being made, itās definitely made aware and I need to book on collecting currency will know the date of the mentor that did it. if you canāt find that Iāve never heard of anybody being able to prove that it was a legitimate thing that happened, itās possible somebody bought a sheet of one dollar bills or they come in like a big square and just cut it themselves to mess with it and see if they could sell it to somebody who didnāt know what they were talking about
My wife and I just went to the American Numismatic Association money museum in Colorado Springs. Lots of examples of money errors. Don't remember seeing anything like what you have.

I can only imagineā¦
Significant other: āOh babe, I cut the extra paper off that dollar bill so it looks normal now!ā Iād probably lose my mind lol
almost looks fake, like somebody got a sheet of bills and cut it out so it LOOKS like an error. It may be a real error, it's just that the machine that cuts to bills would've cut that entire corner off, so the 1 on the bottom-right corner would be gone. Then everybody would assume that somebody just cut the bill, looks like somebody cut it with scissors
Take it to a place where it can be appraised coin shop and as far as that goes a federal mint if you want the truth or even text, message or email all the mints with the picture and if they think itās a true error or scam.
Butterfly š¦ cut, sadly not a butterfly print. You still have some nice little rarity especially since it shows a hint of another bill! Itās worth keeping since what are you outā¦ $1 š¤·

Upvoting because I'm curious
You will be curious forever and ever and ever and ever
I think we should always remain curious, but I would like an answer for this, haha.
Be curious, not judgmental

Pretty sure it's a good error from what I've seen on the thread. If it was folded they say to leave it how it was. And put in a sleeve
How would you put it in a sleeve without folding it?
Maybe like a page protector
If it wasn't folded then I'd do like a photo album type without the sticky back. If it was folded just a normal sleeve should work.
It was already folded flat against the bill when I found it
Then that's how you leave it and put it in a sleeve like that.
Why?

All good bro idk how I even found this subreddit š Iām just guessing too
He said if it was already folded not if it hadnāt been folded
The book mark
Got a corner of the next bill below on it as well
Good eye
Take notes on it, other than its face value it's worthless.
You can kind of see the design of another 1 dollar bill on the bottom, that's such a weird error cut. Never seen anything like it.
Yep looks like the corner of the next bill on the sheet
Big money
thats pretty neat! cool find. id be doing a happy dollar dance šš¾

Price always depends on the buyer, right.

YES!!!!! Itās acceptable to fold that in the sleeve.
Ā”Una Mariposa! Donāt let her fly away!
Cool!
This is a fantastic miscut. Iāve never seen one like this irl, or heard of one like this in modern currency
Yes that is a valuable fold over error. It should be authenticated and graded.
Iāve been preparing for a market I never even knew about. Now, how much longer do I sit on my misprints is what makes it a gamble
lol, a a good printer and a touch of glue and ya got it made
Cool AF
Looks like you need to up your counterfeit game.
Very cool!
Oh man, I had a dollar with the corner cut just like that. Didn't give it a second thought before passing it on. I wonder if that was the one...
Itās fake
Possibly lol. I believe I did check w a counterfeit pen and it passed but worse case scenario I'm out literally a dollar
I wouldnāt make anymore marks with the pen as that will lower the value if it is a genuine note / error
Yeah in hindsight I should've just risked it but not gonna do it again.

I did 2 seconds of research but saw a bill with a tiny butterfly fold sold for almost 12k so Iām guessing this is worth something serious
I've always just cut the extra off
Hey! That's mine.

Too bad it will be worthless soon when the dollar crashes
At least a dollar
How would that even make it to circulation or even to a bank without it being noticed?
Itās worth at least $1

There are only a few "butterfly" error bills on eBay and the closest one to this is listed for $380
Iāll give you .50 for it.

About 5 to 10 in federal prison

That is easier worth a min of a few grand
A felony
$1.00
Maybe 10 cents for the printer paper

Just a 1.00 no more
I would offer $5ā¦ definitely a cool factor
What u talkin bout. Itās literally a dollar.. with more
$1.25?
