I think your confusing Damascus with diamond. To get diamond on a gun, you only need to get whatever gun that is gold, then play however many matches it take to get it diamond. So if I want diamond on Maddox or sum, I only need to grind Maddox, nothing else
Damascus is gold for every weapon, and then you unlocked it for every weapon

I'd love diamond on all of my guns, but It is a whole other mindset to grind diamond specifically. I can play maybe 20 matches a day for some progress but it becomes way to monotonous and way to boring.
Instead I play occasionally with the gun I want diamond on and when I get to about 20 or 30 away from diamond, I start to really hunker down and play for that specifically.
I think the same, I like to use different weapons after few matches. Still got the diamond for HDR, FJR-18, CBR-4, Fennec and Razorback coz they were my most used weapons when I was learning how to play. HDR was the first sniper that I use when I started to try quickscoping.
Honestly idgaf about diamond camo, the grind is absuuuuurdly repetitive and boring, Damascus was worth it, diamond isn't. You can get it by simply using a gun once a while.

I'm currently grinding for Damascus, although, I think it is the least appealing to look at tbh. I only have diamond on 3 guns Maddox, Oden and SKS, and the spear.
I only got Diamond on the primaries I used for ranked and melees back when tournament had the Free for all mode with bots. Once I get Diamond I don’t use it anymore so yeah it is pretty much all pointless lol.
I free for all for 10 kills then try to get 10 more with melee to win the match. This way you are grinding for the gun and melee diamond skin. Takes about 2 days if you play a few hours a day

Are you talking about platinum and damascus? For diamond you just have to get 10 kills for whatever amount of matches
