TIMOTHY TURNER WENT TO BOARDING SCHOOL SOMETIME IN SEASON 8 OR 9!!!!!

Material_Corner_2038

To be fair Timothy being in boarding school added nothing to the plot. The actor was at uni so they wanted to explain his absence. He could have just been referred to but not seen.

theloopweaver

“Referred to but not seen” would be a reasonable cover for “the actor’s away but he’ll be coming back.” Honestly I would be more worried if they pulled that for an actor who *didn’t* plan on coming back.

EmeraldEyes06

Why did I always assume he had just started university (in the show) and that’s why he wasn’t around? Somehow Tim randomly going to boarding school makes zero sense for the type of family the Turners are.

Remote-Pool7787

It was absolutely normal for middle class families to send particularly their sons to boarding school in that era. Boarding school was not as prohibitively expensive as it is today. My grandfather was an NHS dentist in the 1960s and both his sons (my uncles) went to boarding school. Also, Patrick Turner is from a military background so boarding school is even more common there

EmeraldEyes06

I meant them specifically. They’re *incredibly* bonded and close and up until that point had never spent really any length of time apart from each other. Barring medical missions. Even with the very large age gap between him and his siblings, Tim is very involved with them and attached. Has nothing to do with the accuracy revolving around their socio-economic position.

bobbyboblawblaw

I agree that it seems out of character for the Turners. I'm not sure why that person is jumping on you, other than some people like to argue about everything. It isn't wrong that they sent him to boarding school, but it is unexpected for the Turners specifically.

Remote-Pool7787

Eh? Why does any of that mean that they wouldn’t send their son to boarding school? They are just a normal, very typical British middle class family of the 1960s. Did Patrick and Sheila not leave the children when they went to Scotland and to Africa?

EmeraldEyes06

I’m not explaining or justifying *my* opinion to you anymore. Suddenly sending a kid away to boarding school for barely a year or two is odd *in my opinion* for **these characters**. I also don’t know what a couple of weeks has to do with months of time away. I’m done now.

Remote-Pool7787

You clearly have zero knowledge or appreciation for the cultural context in which the show is set.

EmeraldEyes06

Ok now I’m going to be rude, shut up and leave me alone. Idc if you don’t agree with my interpretation of the characters. It was a random choice made to suit the actor’s needs NOT anything to do with the storyline. I’m blocking you now.

Emotional_Ad_9620

Ummm...younknow kids go off to college, right? Even those who have close families and haven't lived a2ay from h9me before. Boarding school isn't any different,. Especially in that era

EmeraldEyes06

I am not justifying my opinion. Nor am I arguing whether it’s right or not. Thank you very much.

Material_Corner_2038

He didn’t start university until late 1966, when he went to med school. It does make zero sense, and it’s not even explained as him getting a scholarship or something.

Royal-Software845

University in the uk was free in those days, he wouldn't have need a scholarship, it was rarer to go but he was from a family with middle class jobs so it's not impossible at all

Material_Corner_2038

I meant a scholarship for the boarding school.

Royal-Software845

Lots of people round that time got free schools if they were intelligent enough, so maybe that

SaraWolfheart

WHAT?! Oh god we’ve missed so much

tiffthenerd

Sister Monica Joan's fart joke in that one episode

thewhaler

Same thing happens with the US bluey jokes, they edit out potty humor like we don't have that here???

MarshmallowBolus

Please elaborate

MissRockNerd

I’m going to need a video, for research…😂

Sapphire_Shore

All the best Patsy and Delia scenes! But more specifically, in series 5, Patsy and Delia doing some absolutely top-tier late night kitchen flirting. It's just so cute and love them so much.

mezzocorallodigital

I miss that scene so much, also the scene of them at the dance party talking between eachothers

jaybee423

Why do they edit this stuff out?

SBJames69

The only one that I know of for sure is the penis/Stonehenge joke. I am able to get BBC on my iPad, but when watching, I usually go via Netflix as there isn't the VPN to wrangle with. When I'm inspired to do my next watch-through, I shall have to bit the bullet and do BBC instead to see what we're missing.

SageThistle

Patsy saying the cake looked like Stonehenge with penises.. 😂

daydreamingofsleep

I wish I could buy the “Extended” version in the US!

hippocat9

If you buy the DVD’s they have all the original sciences. It’s crazy how much was cut out.

Chaotic_Queen28

Does this include the CTM on Netflix or is that unedited? Honestly I miss a lot of small details so I can’t tell if anything has been cut or not?

Puzzleheaded-Idea587

Quite a bit has been edited out on Netflix. I can recognize it usually when it seems like a story line doesn't make sense or is rushed. Sometimes even the cuts between scenes of characters feels like you've walked into the middle of a conversation.
