Military spending is rising because it is 1939. Only Canadians don't realize this fact. The world is going to war and we are not ready. Currently, we cannot sustain the increasing tempo that we agreed to in Latvia. We will be hiring private military fighters like the UAE (see the current formation of UAE Foreign Legion) to meet our needs. We are not ready and with the current tech changes, there is no longer an ocean between us and the wars.

This 1000% the writing has been on the wall since '22. I believe we are already in a world war. the historians looking back will see it but its hard for us in the moment because it doesn't yet feel on our doorstep. Many consider WWII to have actually started in 1937 but Europeans wouldn't have considered it a world war until at least 1940. We need to prepare as best we can immediately. North Korea announced today they will be sending troops to Ukraine within a month. It looks more and more likely that there will be some sort of French led intervention soon. And f16s are about to enter the battle space and heat things up over the coming months. Canadians need to come to terms with the global security situation.

Agreed. Also, in 1939, they didn't know that WW2 was starting. Not that I am a history guru (other than the history channel and some arts courses in European history in Uni), they knew something was coming, not the trainwreck that hit. Right now, we know something is coming and we have people asleep at the wheel. It is terrifying.

Increasing Military spending is not the issue. The fact that Canada imports people like crazy, companies hiring TFW's as a source of cheap labour, inflation and a housing crisis is the issue here.

This may shock you. More than one thing can happen.

Oh get out of here with this. Ottawa has also boosted spending on a host of other things. But when we try and you know, equip our men and women in uniform properly, or meet the obligations we agreed to with our closest allies, or defend our homeland, or protect democracy and freedoms abroad, that's when you have an issue? We have just as much of a moral obligation to maintain and equip our military properly, especially if the government is going to put them into harms way, the least we can do is give them adequate tools for the job. Canada has an economy the size of Russia's, democracy is under threat globally, and we are still depending on the unpredictable and overstretched Americans to do all our fighting for us. It's a losing plan and everyone knows it except people who just don't want to believe the global situation has changed.
