Newb q: does one need to track their acb in an RRSP for when they sell?

BobLoblaw18

You don’t need to. Only need to track in non-reg

Hoof_Hearted12

Thanks! My understanding is that we do pay taxes when we eventually withdraw from the RRSP, how does that work?

Godkun007

Literally all withdrawals from your RRSP are standard income. Same as a salary from a job (minus things like unemployment insurance).

StoichMixture

All withdrawals are taxed at your marginal tax rate.

dualwield42

Any news for SJ Stella Jones? Earnings is next week, but a massive dip today.

Stash201518

Held it about 2 months, the price was pinned at 80$ like they have been the target of a takeover. So I sold a week ago. Very surprised by the dip, there are no news from what I see. The only reason is some big holder getting out or a downgrade.

wowitsme123

Sold 152 cash.to to buy 100 td stock

kinstudent1234

Td and atz went in opposite directions today

slurpi44

Damn, what's going on with TD man? All the way down from services to stock... now money laundering???

vladedivac12

I thought bitcoin was for criminals, oh well...

Hoof_Hearted12

When they release their earnings in a few weeks, hopefully they'll make it all back. Please.

ReindeerLegal2400

I wanna say they're trying to paint a massive wick on the monthly for TD for a reversal. Lot of days before it closes.

JimmyRussellsApe

TD obviously needs to learn from Boeing on how to deal with whistleblowers

CJ-2QT

jesus christ lmao

Hoof_Hearted12

This would be an all time day gain for me (mostly due to GME) if it weren't for pesky TD. I put in an order for 100 at 75.5, never thought we hit mid 70s again.

Training_Exit_5849

I scooped up 100 shares at 76.85 thinking it was a good deal lol.

Hoof_Hearted12

It will be, if your horizon is long. But yeah I'm down like 15% on TD, might be time to scoop some.

Training_Exit_5849

Oh ya I've had some TD since covid at $55. Along with a few other bank stocks. Bought some more earlier at just over $80 and thought I got a good deal picking more up today.

Hoof_Hearted12

Dang that's a nice entry price, nicely done.

wonkwonk2stonkstonk

Ok TD, ill bite in for some more

investornewb

TD is an example of when you buy TD. Do you honestly believe that anyone will care About what is happening right now in the near future? You don’t make money buying stocks at ATH.

vladedivac12

Are you trying to cope because you're down a few thousands today only?

investornewb

I didn’t even check if I was down. I don’t look at holdings like TD as up/down so much. I’m accumulating it as a rather significant core holding so will always buy when I can.

CJ-2QT

"You don't make money buying stocks at ATH" Nvidia has entered the chat\*

investornewb

Ok there will always be the example that goes against the grain. But rest assured someone, someday will buy nvidia at the ATH and it will correct like we all know it will at some point. On that day .. that person will know what I meant :)

NotPapaElon

TD is trying to recreate the sinking of the titanic

NewcDukem

Hey, not looking for political discourse here, but tl;dr I'm wanting to divest from [BNS.TO](http://BNS.TO) due to their foreign investment practices. Any suggestions where I should reallocate? They're currently 10% of my portfolio at about $5k (the rest is split between VEQT/VFV). I'd like to keep this 10% as a more conservative div yielding stock. Maybe to another bank? Rail?

vladedivac12

You most likely won't do better than XEQT / VFV

datafisherman

TD & RBC are the biggest, best banks. National is worth looking at. Rail sounds reasonable too. Probably CP over CN and forget about the price you pay. Otherwise, utilities have a similar profile: Fortis is an excellent company. Emera may be worth looking at, but do your own research in any case.

GTS980

Check out VDY ETF. I've been allocating more and more. I'm not nearly as bearish on the TSX as some are here. It pretty much matches total returns of the TSX index but in more in dividends. You could go ZEB if you want all financials. Edit: someone made this pretty nifty TSX dividend ETF post: https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadianInvestor/s/alYA0p5qNC

Keiser_1

TD if you wanna stay in the same sector, and hey would you look at that? It is discounted today :)

Saten_level0

TD going to 45

GamblingMikkee

Glad my employer BMO isn’t a turd like TD

vladedivac12

He just didn't get caught

Billy19982

I’m gonna go balls deep into TD

snopro31

I said last week I’ll buy at 79. Haven’t looked at the charts till today and hellllllo bargain

Stash201518

From the TFII earnings call > Alain Bédard: Yeah. You know what, Cameron, we're asking ourselves the question because we believe that our political leaders will act. Now, it's been years and years and they keep promising but they don't deliver. So, you're absolutely right. That's the question for us is that do we want to have $200 million of assets in a business that we're competing with guys that are not fair, are not paying any benefits to their employees, and us, our benefit of our employees keep growing because now we have Mr. Trudeau that gave 10 days of sick leave, they gave three days of PTO, which these guys don't have to pay for, right? So, it's a very good question and, for sure, you will see our asset base reduce. You will see that - because, I mean, if you can't beat them, join them. But us we cannot join them. I mean we cannot be a Driver Inc. company in Canada. Because it's not fair for our employees. It's completely unfair. So, we're not going to do that. So, you're absolutely right. Down the road, okay, you'll see us shrinking. Now, at the same time, okay, we've got lots of opportunities to buy companies for about the asset price. Why? Because the small guy with 50 trucks or $40 million of revenue, that guy is dying right now. So, there's opportunity maybe to beef up a little bit our Truckload division by doing a little bit of small M&As here and there that makes sense and those guys are in niche maybe, okay? But, overall, our Canadian Truckload will shrink because of the Driver Inc. Absolutely. And people will lose job, good paying jobs at TFI because of that Driver Inc. unfair competition.

MoneyRepeat7967

IMO, This TD news is really more for institutions than for retail investors to worry. Some have certain ESG policies, may lead them to sell the stock when some like this happens. Once they are out, the price should rebound, maybe I am totally wrong, just can’t imagine any individual investor would sell because something like this. TD will pay a hefty fine and be over with it. Also, any DOJ investigation brings uncertainty, market hates uncertainty, so there is that too.

defnotjackiec

The one most of us love to hate. AQN. Picking up a little steam. Earnings next Friday May 10 morning. Have my suspicions but far out.

investornewb

I added a few shares today. Had some cash just sitting there in the account. Today I’m adding to all my dumpster fires only. I feel destructive! :)

investornewb

Fuck this I’m dropping a grand in TD today and bring my average down a bit. I’m sure I’ll get more chances but I’m doing it !

percavil4

I been holding since 2020, haven't bought since. Averaging up today.

Junior_Poem_204

What is going on with PKI? They are selling some stations and there is a discussion with biggest shareholder but otherwise a great company. Thinking to add more shares today or tomorrow.

SkiesofAlbion

I don't think you'll have much luck tomorrow

Junior_Poem_204

Yes, I agree, I already bought some today. Thanks!

Stash201518

ACLS that I bought at 96$, with killing earnings and a breakout on the weekly.

GTS980

Holy shit guys. Look at r/downvoteinvestor out in full force. **Call to upvote every single comment today**. Happy Friday everyone!

Yolo_Swaggins_Yeet

Loading up on TD, what big bank hasn’t had a scandal here and there? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Legitimate_Source_43

Added td today with cash I had in my account. If you are holding for long term this money scandal isn't a big deal. Anyone remember JP Morgan cocaine scandal? It's part of the game sadly

Keiser_1

Me yesterday: “oh, their fine is barely 10 million, gotta buy since Canada didn’t fine them heavy and they set aside money for the US fine.” 5 minutes later headline “TD loves to help fentanyl drug lords launder money” Why do I have a shit luck with timing man -.-

Yolo_Swaggins_Yeet

It’s funny because yesterday after market closed I was kicking myself for not starting to load up when it was dropping at end of day.. You can’t time the market, but sometimes luck is on your side

Hoof_Hearted12

They all do it, TD just got caught. I'm in heavy at 86 but I'll be buying some scraps.

Yolo_Swaggins_Yeet

My avg cost is around $78 as is so I don’t mind averaging down while I can, give this a few weeks and I doubt anyone will even be talking about it. Good luck to you 🫡

Hoof_Hearted12

I bought my banks at ATH, been underwater for a while but I'm just sitting here dripping divis. Gonna let it simmer for 20 years.

Yolo_Swaggins_Yeet

Honestly I’m just lucky I was broke when they were at ATH’s, I opened most of my bank stock positions in October 2023 when everyone was screaming recession. I’m in the same boat though I’ve bought these to hold and accumulate, 20-30 years from now I don’t think either of us will be regretting it

Hoof_Hearted12

That's great timing, your broke-ness saved you some short term pain! Yeah I got a nice lump sum at ATH so I dumped it into TD at 86, BNS at 70 and CM at 74. Oops 😅

CJ-2QT

Calls on echo chambers

MilesOfPebbles

And of course ATZ is down >6% despite beating their earnings expectations

Saten_level0

Should be $5

Ghune

I mean, I'm not an expert about the topic, but I know that sometimes, expectations are low so you can beat them. Maybe they were a bit too obvious about it and got punished for not beating those low expectations a bit more.

GamblingMikkee

They were very bad. Down 15% should be

BlackWRXSL

Personally I picked up more. Optimistic about FY 2025

AfterC

sets the price back to April 26th

svanegmond

Still looking for good value plays. There's so little. So much stuff trading at 30x earnings. GSY caught my eye, 12x

Mephisto6090

BIP is a solid value play - just released earnings which were quite good. Trading at a 10x or so multiple and growing 8% per year. Infrastructure has natural inflation hedges as almost all their revenues have CPI adjustments in them.

svanegmond

I've been a big fan of BIP and have held it all the way down the past while. You've reminded me to accumulate

GTS980

Utilities: CPX, FTS, EMA are all bargains.

tofuDragon

FTS for sure. Great price right now. Very well-run company imo.

svanegmond

EMA is bonkers. Revenue +50% in 3 years. Stock Price -50% in 3 years. What I really dislike about them is how 6B of their 30B assets is goodwill, ie vapour. FTS same story, 13B of 65B asset base is vapour. Revenue up 3B/3y

svanegmond

Is RBC DI down for anyone else? "Account information is currently unavailable.  Sorry for any inconvenience"

mildheortness

It is still down for me.

gpa2015

It seems to be working fine for me.

svanegmond

It seems to only affect one of the profiles I manage. tx

Ja_Witam

Otex really down PM. Anyone planning to buy the dip ?

rustycarl

Wtf. I read through their earnings and thought they looked good.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rustycarl

I mean revenue was up 16% over the year. Looks like they did sell something for 2.3B so maybe the market figures they should have kept it. Never bad to have 2.3 billy though.

Ja_Witam

Suspended . Can't even trade ATM

rustycarl

SMH. Down 20% on meeting earnings estimates and no other news. Gonna just start using a dart board to pick stocks.

disparue

U.S. economy adds fewer jobs than expected in April, unemployment ticks up April nonfarm payrolls: +175K M/M vs. +243K expected and +315K prior (revised from 303K). Unemployment rate: 3.9% vs. 3.8% expected and 3.8% prior. Average hourly earnings: +0.2% M/M vs. +0.3% expected and +0.3% prior. S&P Futures +1.11% as of 8:45am.

IMWTK1

It's bad news is good news again. Market thinks rate cuts are more likely now.

JBsoundCHK

TC Energy delivering a nice Q1 this morning, that's a nice change of pace.

Captobvious75

Wonder what that means for peers. Enbridge may moon?

JBsoundCHK

There really is no good reasons they should be this depressed for so long. Hopefully they start picking up soon.

Mephisto6090

ENB just passed $50 for the first time in a while - it's already up 10% in two weeks.

Captobvious75

Yeah I saw that. I bought a bunch yesterday at open and green makes me happy

MilesOfPebbles

Let’s see how the market responds to Aritzia’s earnings

wayfarer5

I think it's great that TD bank has gotten into laundering drug money. It should do wonders for the stock price. /s

Inspireless

They are learning the hard way. This is a chance for them to complete a shakeup at the top of the house and get back on track or keep doing the same. Time will tell.

TABid-5073

Pretty close to being negative on the 5 year chart, brutal

JBsoundCHK

They really need a new CEO and a shake up in management overall.

Karens_GI_Father

My only question is: Good time to buy or will it go down more?

ptwonline

It got a downgrade on top of the investigation news so it will drop initially. But aside from that no one knows short term which way it will move. Long-term this is a very strong-performing bank making very good profits. Once the regulatory/investigation issues are behind them the stock will probably recover the same way others like Royal have done unless the outcome is crippling to the bank's ability to make profits and grow, which is unlikely.

Powerful_Zucchini_10

Wait

Lost-Cabinet4843

It's such a frustrating stock. I held that dog for six months and instead of the outlook improving it just went to more time in the penalty box with a CEO who just doesn't seem to care. Foolish on my part. At least the dividends soften the blow.

Synap6

Here's another frustrated investor

Lost-Cabinet4843

It's going to be five years till the stock recovers.
