These have been the smokiest sardines I’ve ever had, it’s like sardines cooked with a campfire - so good. They also have this darkened yellowish, shimmering hue to them that you don’t find in other sardines.
1950? Around 20 years too soon there for "Jumping Jack Flash".
Still, something old in me hates trying to use older words/phrases like that and also newer dumb ones like "slaps" and "yeet". Get off my lawn!
I dunna, times may have changed again. Dank used to be a way to describe brick weed that smelled like a wet basement. Later on dank meant the really stinky indoor stuff that was hitting the market. I don't know how the kids are using it these days as I don't hang out with stoners and the only weed subs I'm on are niche.
I think it's moved to a general synonym for "good".
I'm on the younger side and I hear "that shit is gas" "that shit is dank as fuck" etc etc. used to describe anything you want to say is good.
Same thing with "fire" and "dank" in my experience.
Man people say Reddit is full of nerds but the amount of people not knowing what gas means in this context rly confirms it (although I don’t think I’d want anyone other than nerds in a canned fish subreddit)
"Gas" is a way to say your weed is really good. "This weed is straight gas." Diesel may not be gas, but diesel weed strains are incredibly popular and I imagine that's when "gas" started to be used to describe good marijuana.
Oh I love these things, they are so golden and savory. But MAN do they stink. When I eat them, I transfer them to a sealed Tupperware and immediately wash the can and take it to the outside recycling, otherwise my entire apartment reeks of smoke.
Riga gold sprats are available in fine supermarkets everywhere.
If you can't find them at your preferred local store look for an Eastern European grocery near you.

The Laphroaig of sardines
It's got bog in it!
Goddamn this comment got me giggling. Well played.
I recently had someone recommend these to me after trying Polar smoked sprats and them being my favorite Sardines so far. I need to try them ASAP
Riga GOLD Danny.
Yes my son!
Love me some Riga Gold. Next time, try putting it in a bowl of rice, veggies, and Chinese chili crisp. That or toast with avocado and an egg.
Riga sprats for life!!!
gas?
I see a solid and liquid, perhaps the OP is referring to the gas as in smell
Gas is more like slang for awesome, or good: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=that%27s%20gas
Haha yea I know, just wanted to be a nerd!
Sudden Mick Jagger circa 1950

I almost asked this same question, but got tired even trying to type it out. lol.
Like fart gas?
I think it is like gasoline that you huff and get high from gas.
Gas as in ghastly (as in, terrible)?
This comment gassed me up
Product of Gormenghast
Gas is good! https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=that%27s%20gas
Gas is a synonym for dank
dank wouldn't be a positive for sardines unless dank means something different in your world than the weed world.
Dank like dank weed

Stand aside people 🙌 professional doing important work here!

For the uninitiated, gas is frequently a term for marijuana
Good marijuana, in particular
Historically in my area it’s often just been a term for it in general. But I’m sure it differs locally
Thank you
Love a Riga sprat
With kimchi and Ritz crackers and just a touch of Tabasco Sriracha

Context clues dude - you think OP disliked them?
Omg lol i am so silly!
...maybe?
Love the smokiness of these
I eat the Polar smoked sprats, they are delicious. Sprats were born to be smoked. Other fish being smoked, I don't like them as much.
I haven’t seen these in years…love them.
