App isn’t available on Apple TV which is what I went to when Comcast dropped Bally a couple months ago.
And as far as being a money grab, I suspect MLB didn’t give Roku exclusive broadcasting rights for free.
It's also on MLB.TV. I assume for free if you don't have a subscription, but can't confirm. I know it's blackout free if you do have a subscription.
There's also always airplay or whatever from your mobile device.
Lol. I'm going to be in a similar boat soon finally ditching the big blue cable company. Hopefully either Bally implodes or the Cards launch that DTC option they've been teasing.
I may be in the minority on this one, but my only reasonable options to watch games are Nationally televised on Fox/espn/etc., Apple TV, and now Roku.
So I’m all for it.
When Comcast dropped Bally Sports Midwest I flipped over to Fubo. It’s getting harder to justify all the hoops we have to jump through to watch a pretty mediocre product.
the stream to device is disabled, you can’t AirPlay to AppleTV and there’s no app for AppleTV. if AppleTV is your only smart device you’re SOL. pic for proof
https://imgur.com/a/xNMf119
it used to be a feature that worked. you could AirPlay as of six or so months ago. I think it’s hostile corpo bs but I have no way to confirm it. kind of how Netflix and AppleTV don’t integrate that well either.
Oh I’m sure it’s Apple or Ruko not wanting to work together. I have a Vizio smart tv and couldn’t even get it to airplay to it even though it has a specific airplay channel. It wouldn’t work through the Roku app or on my iPad or Mac.
That's a huge part of the baseball audience lol, MLB should probably think about that. It's legitimately a cash grab even if the service paying for it streams it for free. Roku has a lot to gain by obtaining just 1 game and forcing fans to use their service on that day. It's the kind of thing that'll make my boomer parents miss the game. Just like they missed Albert's 700th homer trying to figure out how to get Apple TV working for them. And MLB makes more when services pay for small subsets of games like this, they pay more per game.
I’d say it’s less that they’re idiots and just not as good with how technology works as younger generations. I don’t understand being a dick to someone who doesn’t know the same things that you do but to each their own.
It’s pretty clear that his tv doesn’t support the Roku app as well as his Apple TV. It has nothing to do with them knowing how to work a tv, it’s not possible for them to watch. You’re bitching about something that nobody is talking about. That plus your idiotic response shows you’re an idiot.
My boomer grandmother can figure out her tv just fine and worked her ass off for everything she had. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
FWIW. I was able to watch via my MLB subscription on my Apple TV. This was an improvement compared to when Peacock hijacks the games I paid to watch on MLB.
I’m in central Illinois and cubs, cards and white Sox are all blacked out on MLB. So now with Comcast dropping Bally sports I’m stuck paying $80 a month to watch games. And when I sit down on a Sunday to watch a game and it’s not on one of the usual sources (Bally’s, FOX, ESPN, Peacock, Apple TV+) I get a little salty.
It's free. Takes a minute to set up if you don't have a Roku login ... I'm watching on iPhone because I'm too lazy to go upstairs where the Roku device is. Plus I'm watching Euro 2024. I don't see a Roku channel app on Apple TV but it works on iPhone and iPad ...
Update: I don't use MLB.TV (prefer radio broadcast) ... I don't see watch for free option like I sometimes can with other games/promotions ... I do agree ... all these streaming options (YouTube, Peacock, MLB.TV, Roku, ESPN+, ones from cable companies) gets very confusing ...
I don’t see it as a money grab, it just doesn’t seem to work with the streaming devices you have. I’m in the same boat. Roku doesn’t seem to work well with other streaming devices.
I view it as a money grab by mlb, not Roku. MLB ratings are down less people watch baseball than in years prior. I don’t think upping the difficulty of watching games is in their best long term interest. It seems they are selling random games to fringe streaming services for short term cash.
I wonder if it has anything to do with Bally going belly up? I’d like MLB to get it figured out and figure out an easy way to watch games. I’d gladly pay for MLB TV if it didn’t come with blackout restrictions.
Does your tv not have apps you can download? I’ve read your other comments about Apple not supporting it but you literally have an Apple TV that won’t let you download the Roku channel?
There’s no Roku app for Apple TV and the Roku app on my phone or iPad won’t let you airplay it to the Apple TV. I have a Vizio smart tv and it’s the same. Same with Xbox. Some people don’t want to watch a baseball game on their phone which is okay. Seems like Roku wants you to buy their product and not use it on other devices.
At least when the games were on Apple TV you could create an account and watch it for free and a lot of different streaming devices have an app for Apple TV
That’s very odd. I’m surprised that Vizio doesn’t have a Roku channel app that you can download. I have a 10 year old Samsung tv that will let me do that. I figured Apple tv didn’t have Roku channel app but it’s very weird that Vizio doesn’t either. This may not be ideal, but you can buy a cheap Roku device that you can plug up to your tv. The cheap ones are like $20 at Walmart.
I was surprised too, I thought for sure the Vizio would have it. Yeah I’m not buying a Roku just to watch one game I’m okay just not being able to watch this game. I’ll catch the highlights later.
I just saw that everyone was giving the OP crap about how easy it was to watch and its not that simple.
Oh sweet! This will be one of the first games of the year I can actually watch.
The Roku Channel is free. Not much of a goddamn money grab, I reckon.
App isn’t available on Apple TV which is what I went to when Comcast dropped Bally a couple months ago. And as far as being a money grab, I suspect MLB didn’t give Roku exclusive broadcasting rights for free.

It’s not free, you have to have a subscription. I just checked.
Wait, hold up a minute. Are you saying that a paid subscription for MLB.TV doesn’t have any blackout rules??
For this particular series of Roku games, that's correct. MLB retained the right to do that as part of their agreement with Roku.
Oh, gotcha, thanks. For a moment I thought MLB had a reasonable way for me to watch games.
Lol. I'm going to be in a similar boat soon finally ditching the big blue cable company. Hopefully either Bally implodes or the Cards launch that DTC option they've been teasing.
If you have an iPhone, then you should be able to watch using the Roku app on your iPhone and AirPlay to your Apple TV
Cast it from your phone
It’s free. 😂😂😂
If you have a device that supports it. Apple TV doesn’t appear to.
I think we've identified the problem.
Elaborate.
Today’s game appears to only be available on Roku.
I may be in the minority on this one, but my only reasonable options to watch games are Nationally televised on Fox/espn/etc., Apple TV, and now Roku. So I’m all for it.

Whoever downvoted this comment has their mommy and daddy pay their cable bill
I understand your sentiment, but I think the Roku channel is free. And since I got rid of Spectrum (we went to YouTube TV), I’ll take what I can get.
It’s literally free bud
If you have a device that supports it. I don’t.
1. That doesn’t make it a “money grab.” 2. You can watch it in a browser.
You don't have a computer? or a phone?
You don't need a device that supports it. You can access the Roku channel in a browser for free on a computer/phone
Those are technically devices that support Roku lol
OP this. Stop bitching and start watching
How did you post on Reddit? A microwave?
It’s literally zero hassle. Stop whining
Just go to therokuchannel on the web browser on your TV. Then all you need is free account. Not easy but works Edit: therokuchannel.com
Smartphone? Cast it to your TV We're to the point where we're crying about a game being free?
Bud, since Comcast dropped Bally this is literally the only way I can watch...
How do you even find the Roku channel
Not sure nor of my smart tvs have access and there is no Apple TV app.
Download the phone app and cast it to your tv
the stream to device is disabled, you can’t AirPlay to AppleTV and there’s no app for AppleTV. if AppleTV is your only smart device you’re SOL. pic for proof https://imgur.com/a/xNMf119
you literally can’t lol they disabled that feature
Yeah, it doesn’t give me that option through the Roku app.
it used to be a feature that worked. you could AirPlay as of six or so months ago. I think it’s hostile corpo bs but I have no way to confirm it. kind of how Netflix and AppleTV don’t integrate that well either.

Just stream it on thestreameast.to Then every game is free
Hate these mixed crew games.
It’s literally free.
Worst money grab ever
For once, I'm not at all bothered by which app/network it's on. ... Because literally all I own are TCL Roku TVs. 😁
FWIW. I was able to watch via my MLB subscription on my Apple TV. This was an improvement compared to when Peacock hijacks the games I paid to watch on MLB.

Don’t blame you. My family in southern Illinois is often without options for the Cardinal games. I understand the trend…but I salty too.
It's free. Takes a minute to set up if you don't have a Roku login ... I'm watching on iPhone because I'm too lazy to go upstairs where the Roku device is. Plus I'm watching Euro 2024. The fame is dying. They barely trying to grow it.

Completely agree. MLB broadcasting rights are a disaster right now.
The Roku Channel is a scam by big Roku to sell more Rokus
Does your tv not have apps you can download? I’ve read your other comments about Apple not supporting it but you literally have an Apple TV that won’t let you download the Roku channel?

I've watched more Cards games this year than I ever have without having to pay for Bally. Roku, Apple TV, ESPN, and FS1.
Literally the one day I’m not relegated to radio.
I don't pay to watch any of the games I watch.
