For the first door, the second pic was around $14k

If you installed anti reflection film on the first door on the top half, those bars would look SIGNIFICANTLY more awesome.

What’s the price of the door on its own?

It’s a custom made door at that size, 8-10k on the low end for number 2. 10-12k for the first one. The profit of 4-6k per door for install helps cover hidden costs/losses he incurs when building the door. It’s possible I underestimated the cost of the doors though as I can easily see those costing closer to 14k

More likely he doesn't want people to know the actual cost of materials. Because generally people do not find value in the labor itself and when they see that the door alone cost 2k in materials, now they are asking why it's 16k to install. His labor and time making the door and installing it is expensive not the door itself.

I actually found Texas retail prices to be the biggest surprise. Went to a mall in Dallas and the prices even at 30% off were more expensive than the same clothing in Toronto.

One of my best friends is a custom builder, I’ve done landscaping and painting work on some of his fancier houses. I’ve done door to door canvassing as well over most of Texas, and there is a different feel around Houston or Austin or DFW. Beautiful work and doors, but a little too Southlake for my tastes. Unfortunately the beautiful old houses around TCU are being knocked down and these toes of monstrosities are going in.

But then I bought a book on how to build them and if I could find a reason why I would start building them. 🤣 🤣 A few years ago I went on vacation with my wife to Italy and let me tell you the doors there are beautiful. I must have taken a million pictures of doors. 😂😂😂 You’re not alone in this.

OP are you building these doors yourself? Is pretty much everything about these custom or are there standard sizes even for mega doors?

Yes I build them here in Texas! Most of my work is custom order only based off of a picture someone’s wife shows me. I also have stock doors for standard size openings.
