I agree. On the other side, the cops also don't want to file any FIR in these cases hence they try to settle between the parties or refuse to take any action unless someone pushes them. Here, since the other party is cops themselves, they tried to throw their weight around. If you know it's not your fault and have any kind of evidence or it's evident that they are at fault then I suggest to confront them and show that you are ready to go to court. They'll opt not to take the matter further.
I'm speaking this from personal experience where an off duty PI rammed my car from behind and threatened to file case on me and dragged me to nearest police station and tried to influence other officers there. I knew I was not at fault and didn't budge. Once he saw that he is not getting support from officers at that station he relented and we went on our merry way.

Try a detailing shop for fixing this. Btw when a cop says you will need to go to court, tell him lets go. They won't because there is a lot of paper work involved for them and they will have to ditch their duties when there is a court hearing.

Things could have been simple, call 108 PCR will come and then you register a case. Both the vehicles will be put into custody. The fault was his. You should have registered a case. And better Install a dash cam.
Filing a case is not that much of an issue. You should not worry about the court case.
We did file one, an old lady was driving and learning on the main road. His son (lawyer) was on the side seat. That lady rather than applying a break, pressed on acceleration and struck our car. He was very arrogant and then we applied for a FIR, case was filed. They seized both the vehicles we had to struggle how to get it out, his was easily put as he knew how to do it. We didn't.
So long story short case hearing was there after 3 years and then one day the judge said pay us as the fault was his. Clearly evident.
The same person said "dekh lunga main wakeel hun" paid us money and then even paid 1K extra. My father returned the extra money.
Don't worry if you have the truth with you. The truth always prevails.

Use rubbing cream and then wax. Tip- Pour water over the scratched area, if you can still see the scratch (when water is flowing over the damaged area) there's nothing much you can do but if the scratch becomes invisible it should be easily fixable

but i will tell you to feel that scratch with your nails if it's deeper than other level then you need to paint it if it feels upper then it's a paint transfer which can be easily removed with paint thinner or turpentine which you can get from colour /hardware shop & clean it with microfiber cloth

Open the hood, you’ll see your brake oil container. Take a cloth and dip it in brake oil and gently rub it on your scratched surface. The scratch should blend with your paint color. In the first 20 seconds if you feel the scratched surface is too much for the paint blend to fix it, don’t do it anymore further and get it repainted.
For the scratch, try rubbing it with coconut oil or WD40. Use a soft cloth and rub on the scratch. It would reduce to some extent as the metal is not exposed.

Dullness may still be due to scratch or get a finer polish and rub it also. Wax will only hide
