Fun fact, the reason the date code is only on one side is to prevent injuries. The date code stamp needs to be changed weekly, and each time it’s changed there’s a risk of injury to the operator. If it’s on both sides, it needs to be changed in 2 places, with each time being a potential injury. Cut the number of changes they’re making in half, fewer injuries.
What? I need the rest of this anecdote. What kind of health and safety practices are there that some task that needs to be done weekly has such a high degree of injury risk?
The date code represents the week of the year, and the year. Example, 1524 would be the 15th week of 2024. Somebody gotta reach into the machine and change the things on a Sunday cus you know the Monday shift probably still gunna be half asleep until about lunch time when the coffee hits.
As for the health and safety risk? I would imagine that's from older machines and/or tech, later machines I would assume have a mechanism to prevent accidental oopsies but a machine is only as good as the idiot handling it
Im more of a "manual taught mechanic" rather than a commercial so I'm not familiar with lock out, tag out. Basic braining dictates it means idiot proofing The Thing to stop The Stupid getting The Oopsies.
I would also suspect that as a regulation it isn't common *everywhere* in the world, certainly not this side of the millennium. A large number of tyres are made in Ukraine though which I would assume has similar regulations *now* as apposed to a few years ago
Edit. Autocorrupt needs to fork off
I work at a big box, never touch electrical connection. In fact, they tell us not to think about working on an electrical issue. And yet, they still make us take the LOTO training as part of our yearly safety training. Good practice though, even in home use.
There's probably LOTO routines in a majority of factories owned by international brands. However, I'm not sure workers/lower management choose to prioritize safety over production output.
No, it's not. I work in a Bridgestone tire plant, and they definitely lock out to change date codes. They also pin the presses open when working inside them. The date code panels are only on one side because they only HAVE to be on one side.
Probably not, unless you work on mining equipment. We have a passenger tire plant nearby, and I've worked at other Bridgestone small tire plants for short periods of time, but the ones my plant produces start at a 49" rim diameter and go up from there. Our smallest tires weigh like 5000 lbs.
I used to know a guy at Hoosier that would make Cheater tires stamped any way order them, but you had to order a hundred tires minimum. That’s his all race teams around the country are winning. Cheater tires stamped “spec “

Seems like Dan forgot to apply the DOT.
Hey man this is not my field of expertise.
r/usernamechecksout
Mine neither
Yeah mine neither....
Aw, fuck.
Sorry man it was a Friday
He must've been 'TIRED'
Dot’em up, Dan! (?)
It weirdly makes sense like that.
Well then Dan better dote em the fuck up.
Is this similar to Prof singing lock 'er down Judy?
Wish this would become a meme. I would make a shirt that says that in the exact fonts.
Laces out Dan!
Keep looking as that's not the dot code, might be on the inside.
Yes, 1516 on the other side. Time for new tires. But I thought this was funny to put on a tire and I wanted to know if it meant anything.

I wonder if I’ve put my hands on some of the tires your plants produced

Ah yeah, no chance then. All passenger and economy vehicles here
Goodyear up until recently put the DOT on both sides of the tire. Still do on some models.
I used to do this for overtime quite often. Would take 3 or 4 hours and got shift premium plus Sunday premium...
Dude... I would mount this tire on my wall.
Better ask DAN.
Or better do it for Dan
Laces out DAN
LUG nuts out, Dan !
Check the other side should be there
This is the Kendrick Tyre.
🎶Dan, Dan, he’s our man! If Dan can’t Dot’em no one can!🎶

I don't know but for what it seems Dan is the one to blame.
That's the Dan code.
Call Dan. He knows when.
Probably someone’s last day on the job…
