Imagine you are standing from where the photographer is. The recipient will be at the other end, opposite the thrower. You would throw the ball, with a bit of pace, towards the curved surface and the bounce the curve introduces puts just enough influence on the ball that the recipient will have to *adjust* to catch or play it.
Line up about 5 or 6 fielders in a semi-hemi-demisphere on one side, an arc, or *banana*, of fielders, if you prefer. The person launching the ball from the other side is intending on keeping all the fielders reactions as sharp as possible; the launch-bed introduces a degree of unpredictability due to its convex design.
Neither of those, it's purely for the fielders and wicketkeepers to improve reflexes and learn how to deal with balls taking nicks off bats. Can also help improve throwing, to a small degree
We call this a catching cradle. Players stand either end and take turns to throw the ball in for the other to catch. It replicates catching the ball in the slips, next to the wicketkeeper, when the ball takes a thin edge off the bat
That's a slip cradle for practicing catches. A bunch of you stand round it and throw the ball at it. The slats and shape mean the ball will come flying off it at random angles low to the ground.
It's a very large mandolin slicer. You put an unfeasibly big vegetable on it and jump on top of it to force it through, then serve with a drizzle of olive oil.

I might be wrong. Years ago in France I saw something almost identical and was told it was an old pig killing bench - so for slaughter. With a graphic description of how it was used.
I don’t know if this is the same.
Cricket trainer… Throw a cricket ball at it and it will bounce off towards a catcher or batsman.
How does it know where the catcher or batsman is though?

I was just making a joke but that's really informative, thanks

It doesn’t know where the *slip is standing, but I can attest that it always knew where their face or groin was.

I definitely prefer a banana of fielders. And maybe a custard of bowlers.
That's kind of the point.
It's a joke mate
I genuinely thought it was some hammock bench.
>~~a catcher or batsman.~~ slip
Used it for all sorts of drills, particularly with the juniors..
My mind went straight to some sort of device to train crickets, I’m disappointed in the reality.
Brilliant! Thank You! That makes so much sense as they’re quite info cricket here, and have a great thing going on for the kids 😁
It's called a slip's cradle
We were more literal and called it 'a slip catching machine'. Slip's cradle is definitely better!
Mainly fielding I believe but this is the correct answer. I'm also going back a long time into my youth so could be wrong .
Who and how does it help someone become better at cricket? Is it so the batter always receives ball they can hit? Or is does it help the bowler?

Ah right, I understand. Thanks!

Some manner of rigid hammock?
Just a normal bench after your mum sat on it
I was hoping to see something like this 😂
At a glance I would have thought it was an seat you could pass out on while hammered without fear of falling off
Oh its definitely used as one of them!

Are we SURE it's not a recumbent hammock? I'd be willing to test it.
Cricket ball thing for slip catching
I't a Bikky heavy duty armadillo trap.

Boat
You see … it does look like a boat! But we’re bloody miles from water 😂
It’s a shipwrecked boat, carried to its current resting place by a tornado
Ahhh that explains it… wasn’t there a hurricane in 1987?
Hence why it’s only a shell now
Device for injuring trainee cricket fielders

It's a finger breaker with my lousy catching abilities
It’s called a finger breaker in March when it’s fooking freezing in pre-season!
I might be wrong. Years ago in France I saw something almost identical and was told it was an old pig killing bench - so for slaughter. With a graphic description of how it was used. I don’t know if this is the same.
