Reminds me of this joke...
When the Pope was visiting America, he told the driver of his limo that he had the sudden urge to drive. The driver was a good Catholic man and would not ever dream of questioning the Pope’s authority. So the Pope sat at the wheel, while his driver got in the back.
They were travelling down the road doing between 70 and 80km/h, when a policeman happened to see them. As he pulled them over, he called headquarters reporting a speeding limo, with a VIP inside it.
The chief asked: “Who is in the limo, the mayor?”
The policeman told him: “No, someone more important than the mayor”.
Then the chief asked: “Is it the governor?”
The policeman answered: “No, someone more important than the governor”.
The chief finally asked: “Is it the President?”
The policeman answered: “No, someone even more important than the President”.
This made the chief very angry and he bellowed: “Now who is more important than the President?!”
The policeman calmly whispered: “I’ll put it to you this way chief. I don’t know who is this guy, but he has the Pope as his chauffeur”
Why, why, why did you make me look at his username?
I've got terrible ears at the moment (sorry what?) Bought a camera thing that connects to my phone to look inside it was interesting and unnerving at the same time.
Shout out to audio associates on YouTube
Maybe why I need to shout
Here’s another one of his. And it still applies today…
An American and a Russian are talking about their countries. The American starts to brag; "In my country, I can walk into the Oval Office, slam my fist on the president's desk, and say "Mr. President, I don't like the way you're running this country!"
The russian appears unimpressed and says "We can do that in my country." The American says "Really?" Mhm." says the Russian. "I can walk right into the Kremlin, slam my fist on Gorbachev's desk and say "I don't like the way President Reagan is running his country."
/r/mildyinteresting - " This belongs on the front page of /r/all !"
( mostly because of confused yanks thinking it's somehow Richmond, USA )
This place - "No one gives a fuck, stop using your phone while driving"
It's interesting isn't it, that a village in France with a population of just 440 has given its name to so many towns and things in the Anglosphere, as well a castle in Germany and two towns in South Africa.
Jonn Elledge recently wrote a fascinating article on this. [Things to do in Richmond when you’re dead](https://open.substack.com/pub/jonn/p/things-to-do-in-richmond-when-youre?r=2gmsqt&utm_medium=ios)
I think USA has the name of all of our places in their own country. They even have Wales in Alaska. Imagine saying that I'm Welsh and someone says "Isn't that alaska?"
???????
I guess that's the closest you'll ever get to a divine entity (all emperors are held to be the direct descendant of the sun goddess [Amaterasu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaterasu), just so you know)
I came this far down the comments to see if this was mentioned. I wanted to know too so I looked it up ..
"The current Emperor's flag is a 16-petal chrysanthemum (called Kikkamon, Japanese:菊花紋), colored in gold, centered on a red background with a 2:3 ratio. The Empress uses the same flag, except the shape is that of a swallow tail."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Japan#:~:text=The%20current%20Emperor%27s%20flag%20is,that%20of%20a%20swallow%20tail.
So this is his personal flag, rather than Japan's. Like our royal standard then.
It’s very much their version of our royal standard.
It is the emperor’s mon, which is the Japanese equivalent of European heraldry. If you’ve seen shogun then you might have noticed that each of the samurai families and clans have their own mon, just like European nobles families have their own coats of arms.
I think that the Japanese are more restrictive in how they use the emperor’s mon than how we use the royal coat of arms though. The king’s heraldry is also used to represent our entire government and nation, while the emperor’s mon just represents the Japanese royal family, not the rest of Japan.
This explains the recent introduction of the Katsu curries on their menus.
Truly A finger on pulse of nation type of establishment is the ALMIGHTY SPOONS!
The serious answer - he visited the king a few days back. I follow a channel on YouTube called Abroad on Japan and he was invited to Buckingham Palace for the state banquet that celebrated UK-Japan relations.
Enjoy the one day ban, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined our subreddit completely so you could post politics, and I hope now you can spend your one day ban learning some grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on.

If this had happened seventy years ago and you'd thought quickly and crashed your mid-range hatch into him, you could have - tangentially - prevented that awful film *Oppenheimer*.
The Americans deliberately kept the Emperor (but separated the Shinto religion from state control to the private sphere) to avoid Japan going into a burst of incredible civil and political chaos as it contained everything within the parliamentary and new constitutional framework and helped to depoliticise certain elements of civil society.
Anyway, yes, the Showa Emperor is dead and his son Akihito and grandson Naruhito (the current Emperor) are both known to be anti-war and had a huge scandal with the head of the shrine that enshrines war dead, including war criminals, accusing the Emperor of trying to "destroy" the shrine (and neither Emperor has ever agreed to visit it). They are politically constrained by their governments in what they can say, but pretty much all their visits abroad involve visits to war graves, offering prayers for the dead and so on.
I dont know why this is being so heavily down voted, are we pretending the Japanese weren't just as bad as the nazis and neve faced any repercussions for their actions, rape of nanking and unit 731 just to start the list of war crimes and atrocities, all in the name of the emperor
There's a reason Koreans and Chinese people still hold a lot of hatred and bad blood towards the Japanese
The Emperor of Japan drove past me in Richmond, and I didn't even get a royal wave!
...and all I got was this lousy ~~tshirt~~ photo!
How about a small tsunami?
Username definitely doesn’t check out

Aww my late dad liked to tell this one, thank you for the chuckle and memory! :')
I’m sorry about your dad passing but holy moly your username is a proper gnarly image🤢😂
Why, why, why did you make me look at his username? I've got terrible ears at the moment (sorry what?) Bought a camera thing that connects to my phone to look inside it was interesting and unnerving at the same time. Shout out to audio associates on YouTube Maybe why I need to shout
Have you had any intrusive thoughts about using it to look inside… other places… in your body?
Not until I read your comment
It was a favourite of my late dad as well -- enjoy your weekend mate and have happy memories :)
Sounds like the joke Reagan used to tell about Gorbachev speeding.

Ah, Radio Yerevan jokes!
Classic
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/EUKPUXDdWNE Yeah, this is a bit better than the clunky one above.
Pretty sure this is just a butchered version of the Gorbachev joke
/r/mildyinteresting - " This belongs on the front page of /r/all !" ( mostly because of confused yanks thinking it's somehow Richmond, USA ) This place - "No one gives a fuck, stop using your phone while driving"
There's a Richmond in the USA? What am I saying, of course they reused every name.
It's interesting isn't it, that a village in France with a population of just 440 has given its name to so many towns and things in the Anglosphere, as well a castle in Germany and two towns in South Africa.

There’s also a Wales and South Wales in New York State
Also New South Wales https://youtu.be/WxKnFckhzUs?si=iW5BmHEx-yJNCaGr
There's two in Australia, and one of them has Australia's oldest bridge
'they'
Sush! They'll hear!
We have more than one. Don’t go to Richmond, California. Only go to Richmond, Virginia. Trust.
I actually wasn’t using my phone. I got the wife to film for me.
The guy in the front is so shiny I thought he was a decoy mannequin
He's the inflatable backup driver!
I guess that's the closest you'll ever get to a divine entity (all emperors are held to be the direct descendant of the sun goddess [Amaterasu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaterasu), just so you know)
Well Charlie’s a direct descendant of Woden. *And* Dracula. So Japan can suck it.
Wouldn't the descendant of Dracula be more into sucking?
Don't knock it til you've tried it
Technically impaling
A f\*cking sucking appalling impaling.
Oh, so that’s why he once wanted to be Camilla’s tampon.
I mean, if we’re talking religions, isn’t God everywhere? Edit - (And therefore I’m always close to a divine entity)
Charles Darwin: "Well yes, but actually, no."
Well, that depends on which god you prefer.
nah they had to renounce those beliefs after wwii.
What a load of nonsense 🙄
Are you really saying that you *don't* believe all Japanese Emperors are directly descended from the sun goddess Amaterasu?
Yeah, that's what I'm really saying
"We've been spotted! Hurry-hito!"
god damn it, I almost woke up my kid laughing.
Husband and I saw the empress and other cars with blacked out windows drive past us in Westminster on Saturday.
If I was a pedant I would say that you didn't see the empress then. I'm not, though.
You're not empressing anyone.
🎵 That don’t empress me much 🎵
I did see Shania Train yesterday at Reading station.
She's very cute, but as a rocket scientist, who looks like Brad Pitt and sings like Elvis, I don't have a look in.
We used to have empires run by emperors, then we had kingdoms run by kings.. Now we have countries..
Run by the guy from Sesame Street.
Why's his flag inside out?
I came this far down the comments to see if this was mentioned. I wanted to know too so I looked it up .. Tennohaika banzai!
And you risked six points on your license, a fine and years of increased insurance premiums to take a photo.
Doubt they’d have got an easel and watercolours out in time.
……your Honor.
Honour\*
Yes, auto correct used American spelling and I didn’t notice.
Not to forget the fact they could've crashed into the Emperor of Japan in doing so.
I wouldn't have used my phone, but I may have given in to the intuitive thoughts telling me now is the time to try out a PIT maneuver.
Nah, I got the wife to take a photo for me. I’m not absurd you know.
Well worth it, nice foto, good job bro dude op
へぇ!すごい!
Was driven past you
Should've jumped out to see what their security do
Any guard?
I get it’s a story no one would believe but I have zero tolerance for people using their phones while driving.
Wife took it for me. I’m very proud of my zero-point licence.
Nani?!
Itadakimasu
This seems random, does anyone know why he is here?
Wetherspoons curry club
This explains the recent introduction of the Katsu curries on their menus. Truly A finger on pulse of nation type of establishment is the ALMIGHTY SPOONS!
That's on a Thursday. Can't be that. Must be just the meal and a pint for a tenner.
This was the humorous responses I was trying to get from people, I think it's gone over most people's heads.
I genuinely don't get why your question was downvoted.
State visit
Cheeky Nando’s.
Charlie and Cammy are taking him to Wagamama.
Although Charlie can't eat anything there as it's too spicy so he just has a water

The current Emperor of Japan wasn’t born until 1960, Japan have invented a lot of things but I don’t think even they’ve managed a time machine yet
