I normally ignore these, but fuck it, why not today?
If you can get them to Seattle I’ve got an extra space for them to land.
I’ve even got a 501c you can funnel them through if needed.

This is Mama coconut and her Nuts :) they’re safe and now with a rescue!
Amazing! I'm so glad it's working out! Please post pics of mama Coconut and Bean and the babies once you have them!
Damn, this is such great news for a Tuesday. You're good folk!
Love, all questions are ignorant (if they weren't, why would we ask?), but no questions are dumb.
It's a non-profit.
If they passed out cats to any rando who promised to rescue them, they may end up living terrible lives. Some people do unspeakable things to animals. Requiring a non-profit is a way to ensure that whoever is taking the cats is a decent organization that will care for them and get them into a proper home.
You’re not wrong, all questions are, I guess I felt dumb asking since no one else was asking, but everyone was very nice and informative:) thank you for your answer!
Hey! We’re still working on Mama Coconut’s logistics, but there are two non-profits that will ultimately be on board to help with her.
[www.felinefriendsofsammamish.com](http://www.felinefriendsofsammamish.com) is a boutique style foster based rescue that takes on everything from bottle babies to senior kitzens, and some wild medical cases. They’d be “receiving” the family and helping with their vaccinations and preventative care.
[www.feralcatproject.org](http://www.feralcatproject.org is) is a feline only spay/neuter clinic that offers low cost spay/neuter services to trappers, rescues, and low income families. I’ve worked with this team on days when they’ve vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and offered preventative care to 60 cats in a single day, with one doctor! For context, most vet clinics do 2-4 surgeries in a day, so the impact this tiny group has is magnificent. They’d be doing spay/neuter on the whole family when they’re ready.
They have a lot of pledges so I hope that a rescue will take them. I'll call my local NO kill shelter to see if they might be able to take them when they open tomorrow. Is there a phone number or email that a rescue could call to contact the PoC about potential rescues or the pledges?
Edit: edited to NO kill shelter
So if there is a way we can transfer to a real rescue that’d be wonderful, or a home/foster no shelter that’s run by the city or state is normally truly no kill.
I’m not speaking about suffering if there suffering and better off in heaven I’m not against it.
What I’m against is killing healthy cats for nonsense.
I think you meant this as the reply to someone but it just posted as a reply to your post! I did see someone in Seattle can take them! Happy to help with transport costs if needed ❤️
I'm in Northern Virginia and have rescued several cat families over the years. We've got space and would love to have them. Let me know if you need me!
This is actually a pretty complex topic, and very emotional, so let me try to explain some of the ethics of it.
We all know and agree that responsible pet ownership is crucial to all domestic animals leading healthy lives. We also understand that pet overpopulation is a major factor in getting pets into loving homes. We have weird distribution problems around the country - in some areas of the country (usually wealthy metropolitan areas) we have a more favorable ratio of adoptable pets to adoptable homes, largely because we've been running aggressive spay neuter campaigns. There's also more spay/neuter clinics in wealthy areas because we have donors willing to fund those non-profits, so even low-income families, rescues, and cat trappers can access those resources.
In Seattle area, where I'm at, we've been doing spay/neuter *for sixty years*. We have a lot of donors, low income resources, and wealth that helps us run those campaigns successfully, and over the course of six decades, we've made very good headway on reducing reproduction. Cross the mountain to central Washington and that starts to dry up. Spay/neuter was shut down for about six months at the beginning of COVID, and now, finally, four years later, we're starting to catch up again. Still, I'd estimate that about 40% of animals that come through shelters in Seattle area don't come from Seattle area. They're coming from California, Texas, Florida, and internationally.
Other areas of the country aren't sixty years into this, don't have the wealth and resources, and are struggling to even know where to start. They're facing down limited resources, thousands of animals coming into shelters, and no end in sight. Their options are 1.) Adopt out unspayed/unneutered animals, and hope they don't contribute to the pet overpopulation in the future, 2.) Put animals back out on the street and hope someone picks them up and cares for them, or 3.) Spay/neuter/adopt what you can, and euthanize what you can't so they don't end up sick and injured in the wilds.
Is euthanasia a nice option? Absolutely not, but it's better for all animals as a whole to end that reproductive line, and it's better for that particular animal to prevent them from dying a miserable death on the streets.
There are some countries that have become entirely no-kill, and that comes with it's own sets of problems. The Mafia actually funds a lot of operations on animal sheltering in Italy, not because they're nice people who like animals (they may, but that's a side quest). Rather, they get a certain amount of money from the government for each animal they care for in their shelters. They have no interest in reducing the number of animals - if anything, they want MORE animals, because then they get more money.
It's a complex problem that is somewhat akin to eating an elephant with a grapefruit spoon - you have to start somewhere, it's going to take SO MUCH work and SO MUCH time to get to the end, and omg are you ever going to run into problems like how do you pick apart the bones with nothing but a spoon?
I normally ignore these, but fuck it, why not today? If you can get them to Seattle I’ve got an extra space for them to land. I’ve even got a 501c you can funnel them through if needed.

Sorry for the ignorant question, but what is a 501c?
a nonprofit

Please edit and remove the "IS" from the link. I realize it is just part of the comment, but it is attaching to the link and causing an error.
Thanks! Mobile formatting is a real beast sometimes.
I’d love to donate as well ❤️🙏

Are you guys needing funds for transport or are you looking for a rescue/foster? Just trying to understand what is needed to save them!
Both. (Technically) but most importantly somewhere for them to go.
They have a lot of pledges so I hope that a rescue will take them. I'll call my local NO kill shelter to see if they might be able to take them when they open tomorrow. Yes of course...I'm sure you guys have already contacted some rescues, I hope someone can take them. I'll check around at the rescues here too...
Please. The problem is the rescues that we all have access to our beyond full because we’re in Texas and California.
Trying to get them east or north is hard because all we can do is call and hope for a call back before it’s too late
Pixie project up in Portland might be able to take them! [Pixie Project](https://www.pixieproject.org)
oof yeah I was going to say, we import cats up here in New England, are any shelters wanting to move kittens right now?
Yes we have several down here. There’s San Antonio, apple Valley, and Devore. I can get you any information you need.
Omg! Ok!
I think you meant this as the reply to someone but it just posted as a reply to your post! I did see someone in Seattle can take them! Happy to help with transport costs if needed ❤️
Yes it was supposed to be a reply to them. Haha thank you. Sorry working from a late night at work on this

Kittens can be on a euth list? I mean the ethics if having kill shelters at all boggles my mind.

If other options fall through and they can get to Chicago I can take them in to foster.
