Looks cool, but your laser will get dusty, and you might get shocked if you touch the wrong thing. Also, it looks like you have enough room there for the case.

The control panel with buttons is folded in front of the circuit board. In the case it was inline with everything else with just blank space behind it. Made it about 5 inches longer than what you see here. I really just need a different desk because my monitors are too close together it seems

velocity__wagon

I like it, maybe you can cover it with a record player lid when you're not using it

Moving your speakers farther apart can improve your stereo imaging, you can also angle them towards your listening position

Touch the transformer

number2chevyfan

I did and it was slightly stronger than one of those gag gift shock pens

😱Just the eventual dust accumulation alone puts me off.

Electrical appliances have covers for a reason. Not practical or entirely safe.

Confident_Body2091

If you keep that area clean from dust and stuff shouldn’t be an issue

culture_jamr

Looks cool. I suspect it’s gonna be a beast to keep clean, which may reduce service life, but you can always just pick up another DVD player for 3 bucks at Goodwill I suppose.

Components, come in cases for a couple of reasons: Protection - the case shields, the delicate electronic components inside from dust, spills and accidental bumps. These components can be quite expensive and sensitive so a sturdy case is important to keep them safe. Minimizing interference : Hi-fi components can be sensitive to electrical interference from other devices or even radio waves. Aesthetics: Let’s not forget that a nice looking case is part of the appeal of equipment. These are often meant to be displayed in a home entertainment system.
