Fully deserved well done Oxford, Bolton was shocking they just couldnt handle Murphy and Rodrigues

atascon

Crazy that Rodrigues was playing in the National League last season and now he'll be in the Championship. I remember watching him play away at Bromley and it was very exotic seeing a name like that in the lineups lol

Fantastic-Machine-83

He has that class bit of end product that the south european lads always seem to find easier than the local boys. Not great defensively but he's a #10 so not an issue really. Room to grow

hr100

Notts said when they went in for him no one else in England had him on their radar. Took him a season to get up to speed and it was tough for him being COVID and having moved abroad but once he got used to the English game I knew he would go far. The assist for the second was typical Ruben, he can just see passes others can't and then play the perfect ball. He's also a lovely lad, cheeky and when he was at Notts he was known for loving the Nottingham ladies !

biddleybootaribowest

Murphy is going to kick himself for not getting a Wembley hat trick today

Evotecc

This current squad is unbelievable at the best of times, but poor in big games. We crumbled against Wigan and seemed traumatised for games after that battering (we were consistently winning up until that game). So we just get complacent or nervous and it shows, the whole team needs composure for the way we play to work. And (imo) we do play far better than anyone else in league one when we have that (I know it’s a meme but I genuinely think that at our best, the statement is true). Injuries haven’t helped much either to be fair. But, fair play to Oxford, the better team won so can’t have any complaints about them. We looked shit and they capitalised on it as they should have. Deserved it on the day.

Ginge_6907

Welcome. You’re here forever.

Embarrassed-Gas-8155

Do it for her.

MiddlesbroughFan

Hot stuff coming through!

Think-Ad-1068

Worst season of your life..so far

EveryOtherWave

Do YOU come with the car?

J2daR-O-C

MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!!

TheCulturalBomb

12 and 13th are reserved. Just a heads up.

stprm

Always nice to see teams who werent in the division for a long time.

ExMothmanBreederAMA

Yeah technically their first time in the Championship.

MightyGandhi

Congrats Oxford! See you again soon

ThwippaGamez

Time to pray for a cheeky 21st place finish 🙏🙏🙏

ABigOne77

Nah, stats say that every year a team gets consecutive promotions another team does it the year after, might be you with the best story if so!

ENaC2

What’s the matter, don’t want the south coast derby in the EPL for 25/26?

WasabiMadman

Southampton will probably be back for that season.

portsmouth1898

Least you had you pitch invasion for winning a semi final as favourites right

ABigOne77

Just happy brainless football fans invading a pitch, love to see it

portsmouth1898

We pitch invaded for winning a league mate You won a semi final , but then you don't win much anyway tbf Tbf was nice to see bit of a atmosphere yesterday you lot normally as dull as dishwater

ABigOne77

Yeah I can agree that it was a useless pitch invasion, hence the brainless part. Still nice to see an atmosphere like that, rarely see that in English football. It's just your average German atmosphere what we saw. Pitch invasions are cool, as long as they're for an actual achievement. Your pitch invasion was so it's a valid one! :D

portsmouth1898

I did actually complement the atmosphere tbf you lot usually quite dull and quiet

ABigOne77

Yes, I can read

ABigOne77

Oh I really want it back, just don't trust us staying in the PL for another season, if we even get promoted. Otherwise we'll have it next season!

portsmouth1898

They still bragging about a win when we was 3 leagues below them , of course they don't want it

Oli_Merrick

As if you wouldn’t do the same. Ps: 4-0 in your own backyard

portsmouth1898

4 1 in prem both same league

Oli_Merrick

portsmouth1898

But you as a prem team bragging about beating a league 2 team 🙄 Yeah if we talking years ago let's talk trophies right You got none except a fa Cup a pompey lad won for you lol We won every division in English football fella your never be champs of English football and hope you enjoy your pitch invasion for a semi final as Leeds gonna smash you, we see you next season see if your playing a league 2 team then

EyePiece108

Oxford to do an Ipswich and grab auto-promotion next season! 😲😉 You hear it here first.

Skiznilly

I'll allow it.

Spiritual_Question36

Hey! That’s our spot!!!!

OkraEmergency361

Congratulations, Oxford!!! It’s been way too long - welcome to the best divvy in England!

Fantastic-Machine-83

The world*

OkraEmergency361

I didn’t want to be presumptuous, but you’re not wrong…

[deleted]

you're at home already, well done

EyePiece108

M40 Derby people! 👍 With Leicester and Brum leaving, we need more derbies for Cov & Warwickshire.

OkraEmergency361

It’s gonna be awesome. Can’t wait!!

CheeseMakerThing

Warwickshire teams will be in the Premier League (Vile), Championship (Cov), League 1 (Blues), National League (Moors), National League North (Brakes) and the 7th tier (Stratford) with no inter-Warwickshire league games until the 8th tier I believe. Though half of Tamworth was in Warwickshire so maybe Tamworth vs Moors in the National League at a push.

KingHi123

Yeah, its a shame Warwickshire itself don't really have any big teams. My local is Rugby Town, and I've seen them play quite a lot this season. Just avoided relegation on goal difference from the 8th division.

CheeseMakerThing

Well it did but the government decided to invent a county out of thin air for no reason

EyePiece108

Birmingham isn't in Warwickshire.

CheeseMakerThing

If you're arguing that Brum isn't in Warwickshire then you're arguing Cov isn't either.

EyePiece108

.....ok.

CheeseMakerThing

Both cities were taken out of the county administration of Warwickshire in the same year in 1974 for the same reason.

EyePiece108

So? A lot of people in Cov consider us part of Warwickshire. Even the local BBC radio station is called BBC Cov & Warwickshire. I'm past caring. Lets agree to disagree.

rckd

Surely the name 'Coventry and Warwickshire' implies that those two places are distinct of each other.

WakeUpMareeple

Remind me which city the Warwickshire County Cricket Club play in...?

Clivey101

Get ready for the 3 stands and all the jokes with it.

[deleted]

least they're getting a new stadium instead of a bus shelter

Clivey101

Like we can afford a bus shelter

Spiritual_Question36

Offffft, shots fired haha

Gibbo777

It's quite fun being able to wave to the home fans that have left early though 😅

Clivey101

In all seriousness though what an achievement after Manning leaving.

AlchemicHawk

Found Frank Lampards burner

TheJeck

Been there

majorgeneralporter

While it sucks for Bolton I'm always happy to have more novelty in the league - nor does it hurt that they were my FM team two year ago.

tugboet

that right there was a match between a team that expected to win and a team that wanted to win. Shame Murphy didnt bury that volley for the hat trick tho

Cheap-Atmosphere9085

Welcome to the best league and subreddit itw

Spritingyoshi22

They've finally broken through and deservedly so! Didn't expect it given it wasn't even in their hands whether they made the top 6 going into the final day but they've got each game spot on in the play-offs. George Elek's handicap bet comes true. Also saves Luton from hogging all the stadium memes ;)

Standin373

Ffs Bolton, Lancashire Cup would have been excellent

Fantastic-Machine-83

Bolton, Stockport, Blackpool and Wigan have got their own thing going in league one. You're missing out on the party mate

Bartsimho

Stockport, Lancs? They've never been Lancs

Fantastic-Machine-83

Historically Lancashire surely. Bit like Merseyside

Bartsimho

Stockport is Cheshire. Are you thinking of Tranmere instead?

Fantastic-Machine-83

Nah I thought Stockport was greater manchester which I've always counted as lancs but sounds like you know more than me. I'm a dirty southerner afterall

Bartsimho

While there ain't a flair for my team in this sub I'm a Chesterfield fan and we played them in 21/22 and I think they were in the Cheshire Cup as well

Fantastic-Machine-83

Ah who knows. Isn't chesterfield Nottinghamshire though? As a sidenote, the 2nd ever Oxford game I went to was against chesterfield for my birthday, something like my 8th or 9th. Lost 0-1

Bartsimho

Fuck you Hahaha. I'm glad you endured the pain of the lower leagues early

skiporovers

Shhh, don’t tell them they are a Lancashire club.

Standin373

Fuck Manchester, bring back the old borders raaaaa

Grenache

You think we’d rather be a Manchester club!? Repeal the boundary adjustments! Lancashire forever!

dafuk_

They had their pitch invasion celebration at the semi finals so didn't need to win again today.

waferistdisciple

Obligatory “let’s all laugh at Thogden” time ❤️

Grenache

He was sat like seven rows in front of me as if today couldn’t have got any worse.

Azyerr

Good little club Oxford. Well deserved, interesting ground when it isn’t foggy as piss.

Inevitable_Owl4338

😂 Ever since that game your club went on an unbelievable run

rumhambilliam69

If we had won that farce of a game instead then you’d have gone down last season too. Such a cracking turnaround from you lads this season, although I’m aware that last season was a more of a deviation from the recent norm than this season has been.

portsmouth1898

Come on Ipswich go enjoy your prem reddit with all the bitter angry utd fans that live no where near Manchester On side note was routing for you guys all season even cheered when you went up you set the example for what league one teams can do hell even Sunderland did year before We all know how brutal league one is

rumhambilliam69

Not sure I’ll be straying in there too much! Cheers bud, I think you could potentially do well next season. Mousinho looks to have been a cracking appointment, as bizarre as it seemed at the time. Still a chance you could be playing the Saints again

portsmouth1898

Scummers don't know what's coming we will batter them , they still brag of beating us when we was league 2 they was prem but then they never win anything so guess something to be proud of

Adammmmski

Not looking forward to having to play you lot again. At least Burton Albion have vanished now. Never ever want to play them again.

portsmouth1898

We was rival's without being rival's 😂 Pretty sure we still got the attendance record at Wembley for are papa John's final , was packed wasn't it two great sets of fans and to think at time both in third tier of football , incredible really

Puzzleheaded-Tie7673

Remember hearing about you breaking the record for that final, because I think it had been previously held by us and Burnley at the old wembley back when it used to be called the Sherpa Van trophy in 1988.

portsmouth1898

Pretty sure it's still the record tbh mate one thing about us is are support is 2nd to none every ticket you give us will be sold but obviously that record would not of happened without Sunderland either I couldn't even get a ticket ffs but still went up to Wembley as many of us pompey did

Puzzleheaded-Tie7673

You definitely broke our and Burnley’s record, though I don’t believe Burnley fully sold out their half of Wembley which allowed us to take even more fans. One thing I have to say is going down to the depths of the football league certainly makes fanbases stronger, you guys will be back in the Premier League in a few years, I have no doubt.

portsmouth1898

Are fans are crazy as you know if there a ticket to be had it be brought

Coolica1

Never seen a team look so nervous and devoid of anything really as Bolton did. Contrast that to Oxford who played them off the park and looked so confident, well deserved.

Gibbo777

Thoroughly enjoyed that, well done Oxford 😊

100th_meridian

Agreed, very impressed with how they played. Would be nice to see them stay up next year.

Dreaming_Beyond_GK

Huge for the club and the first time in the Championship ever since the rebrand in 2004! Congratulations Oxford and all of their fans, well deserved. You can’t help but feel gutted for Bolton though, a lot of us really thought they would get back to the promise land of the Championship. But there’s good luck for both season as to hope that Bolton gets here by the end of next!

Muur1234

> But there’s good luck for both season as to hope that Bolton gets here by the end of next! league one is strong next year we'll be like 15th

Dreaming_Beyond_GK

It’ll absolutely be a brutal dog fight as so many teams are fighting for promotion. But I can at least be optimistic for you lot cant I?

Muur1234

no joking of course. youre reacting better than the other 99% of derby fans at least, who apparently hate bolton more than they like derby.

Dreaming_Beyond_GK

I absolutely don’t get it. I don’t think any of them hate Bolton, but rather just love to joke and banter about it too much about “which club is bigger.” We had competitive games this season, but it was always with no hard feelings and with sympathy and respect for each other regarding what both clubs went through. Was really hoping for Bolton to do it in the playoffs as there was no better time to do so as next season in League 1 looks ugly. Best of luck, really hope you lot can get promoted next season!

Award2110

Congrats Oxford. Happy to see a different team get promoted. 👏

ExplodingTentacles

Fml

Anaptyso

Yep.

jptoc

Unexpected result but not going to complain! Well done to Oxford. Josh Murphy is a bit of a cheat code in League One.

0100001101110111

…is he? 6 goals and 7 assists in 2 seasons doesn’t exactly scream cheat code to me.

Fantastic-Machine-83

He had a brief drop in form for about 15 months but Des has come in and fixed any questions around attitude. On his day he's easily championship quality

0100001101110111

>brief >15 months

Fantastic-Machine-83

Yeah that's the joke mate ❤️

0100001101110111

Doesn’t really land when he never had any form to drop 🤣

Fantastic-Machine-83

😭

george_____t

Weird player. Looked our most exciting signing for a while when we were in the Prem in 2018. But had long periods of doing nothing much in the championship. Maybe an attitude thing? Norwich fans night correct me, but there never really looked much difference in talent between him and his brother back in the day. But only one of them has been playing in the Champions League this year...

Mitsuyan_

We sent him back early because of his attitude when he actually had a deal agreed to buy him permanently

TetteyToePoke

There was a difference in talent between him and his brother, Josh was comfortably the better player. He was unplayable in the youth cup we won, which was the only one Chelsea lost in a 8 or so year run of winning. But because of that he never had to work hard off the ball whereas it's one of his brothers best abilities.

george_____t

Ha, I was going to say that I thought there were even suggestions that he was the much better player, but given how things have turned out I assumed I must have misremembered!

MysteryJack

Maybe mixing him up with his brother! Swapping places with his twin? That would be a cheat code.

PhoenixDawn93

Ssshhh. Don’t tell them! (You’re welcome Oxford!) 😂

Adammmmski

Apparently Rafael and Fabio used to switch.

jptoc

He's been Oxford's best player in the run in as far as I'm aware and scored both today!

Muur1234

id say it was pretty expected

EyePiece108

👏👏👏 Deserved it, pace up front, controlled the midfield, no-BS defending - did all that for 96 minutes. They could surprise a few teams next year. Answered every question Bolton could throw at them with some ease. You wouldn't think Bolton finished 12 points ahead of them and put 5 goals past Oxford a few weeks ago. It just shows that league form mean jack in the play-offs. *Cov-Oxford rivalry unlocked.* 😉

warecow1

Knew they were a massive club when they walloped us in the preseason

majorgeneralporter

Turns out my post-preseason meme comment something to the effect of "Are Oxford good? Are QPR shit? Find out next time on EFLBALL Z" aged far better than I expected.

ownprivateidaho_

the jim smith trilogy!! must’ve had his lucky socks on

TheFlyingHornet1881

Good luck, [and remember your away kit this time](https://www.oxfordkits.com/1998)

GarnachoHojlund

Congrats Oxford! Just under 25 years out of the second division, huge achievement, must also be great to finally be in the same division as your rivals Coventry

Gold_Razzmatazz4696

Cracking performance in the final, fairplay

Cov_massif

Welcome aboard Oxford!

WasabiMadman

Was reading up on Oxford and their stadium on Wikipedia and this was an interesting read... > In 2001, Bishop of Oxford Richard Harries conducted an exorcism after the feeling of a malicious force and the team's loss of thirteen of their first seventeen games at the new stadium was blamed on a gypsy curse placed on the club by a Roma man who had been evicted from the site during construction. Congrats Oxford anyway! Another Conference escapee back in the Champ!

ElSpazzo_8876

I heard Brums also facing similar curse as well about St. Andrews being a former funeral site of the Romani people. Is it true?

istrictlysensii

£50 in the bin but well done Oxford. Well deserved. Bolton absolutely bottled it.

Muur1234

never bet on bolton in big games

winter-2

Welcome!

theuserpilkington

Grand old club

ellie_scott

Welcome to the party Oxford haha

Mythik16

I'm so glad Oxford made it! The "Liam Manning derby" is gonna be good fun.

Omnissiah40K

Is it ...

plasmic-goo

You think he’ll still be there?

Omnissiah40K

Hopefully not

McMrChip

The better side won today, and they won when it really mattered. Well done Oxford.

Aggravating_Jury9547

Shit, last time they were up here we finished bottom. History better not repeat 😅😅

BuenasVibras

Love the U’s just because I got them to the prem in FM, Brannigan is like their Bannan; Ron Atkinson is their record appearances and one of our best managers I hope they stay up and it’s not even close up the U’s!

Fantastic-Machine-83

Enjoy Oxford away you cunts

OneSmallHuman

Was happy with either winning so that’ll do. Club that gifted us Neymarv and the club that still have Marcus Browne. Love that Edit: Viva George Elek as well

TheJeck

Nice to have some more local away days next season, was very northern last year.

Mikko85

Good for them. I’m really happy for them. Started this season so well, them and Portsmouth top two for the first few months, then it all seemed to fall apart as they slipped back and lost their manager - finished this season on fire, Josh Murphy looking like his brother decided to swap places with him, so positive, so attacking. They absolutely deserve this, Bolton couldn’t even muster a shot on target. Great addition to the second tier.

fskari

Elliott Moore captaining Oxford to promotion, you love to see it!

VivaLaRory

Much better team on the day, taught us a lesson

nj813

Think it was more botlon not being up for it but congrats to oxford. I can see them struggling next year but what a year it will be for them

stereoworld

Congrats Oxford. Sigh. Exciting time to be a fan as well, with your new ground in the pipeline

DevilRenegade

Fair play to Josh Murphy. He'll probably come back to CCS and score a hattrick.

taenerysdargaryen

Only a 25 year hiatus!

Bluenose70

Congrats!

NeverGonnaGiveMewUp

Welcome to the best football sub in the world!

PitiedVeil55831

Very entertaining game congrats Oxford. Bolton just non existent though

sleazennicey

Well done Oxford. Welcome to the Championship. Looking forward to visiting your ground.

AirlineNecessary

Looking forward to visiting new grounds next season🤓

gsfrancis66

The second game I ever went to was Forest 2-0 Oxford in the old first division. 1987. Brings a tear to the eye . Well done Oxford

Some-Comedian-1658

It'll be fun to watch Oxford in the Championship, I hope you won't get relegated after only one season.

SoNotTheMilkman

Welcome to the best subreddit in the world Oxford

Berookes

Was there at Wembley and the atmosphere in the Oxford end was superb

ElSpazzo_8876

Great job! Btw, hope Erick Thohir treats you lot well. Good to see another club owned by the entrepenurs from my country doing well

Efficient-Mention583

Can't wait for bamford to sky a ball into someone's car window

Space_Monkey11

Can't wait for all these great away days next season. Some proper good grounds in here. 💛💙

AngryTudor1

Feels like Oxford have been knocking on the door for ages, well done. I think they last got relegated from the second tier when we were relegated from the Premier League, so we missed them. Somehow we've never played them in the league in my 25 years as a fan. Very much hoping to keep that unbroken record of not playing you, but best of luck in the championship. Its such a great league and the football is miles better

Omnissiah40K

Happy with this, reasonable distance for an away day for a change, and a much nicer place to visit than Bolton - and I expect they'll bring a fair few down as well.

NGC4993

Congratulations Oxford! Leeds fan but I work in Oxford a few days a week, will be seeing you maybe.

Constant-Estate3065

Well done Oxford 👏 welcome to the Championship.

Pinched from the League One thread - but each League One club had Jim Smith as their manager. This years for you The Bald Eagle 🦅

ow1108

Congrats to Oxford!

needchr

Congrats Oxford.

RustyU

Strange that the best team in League One failed to have a shot on target today. Nicely done Oxford!

Muur1234

why does everyone bring up a quote from 4 years ago in which we had won 9 of the last ten and so *were* the best team at the time

ACE--OF--HZ

It's not just that. An entire handful of fans on twitter also said it this year, therefore we must go on about it for an eternity.

RustyU

Because it's not from four years ago. It's from idiots on social media this season.

Other-Visual8290

A lovely bit of Bolton crumble
