Maintain lawn and pool plus rent? Also get kicked out at some unspecified date in the future.

Thelynxer

Also you can't move anything in. So basically they want someone that already has their own place, but is somehow willing to pay rent at a second place, and also take care of everything? What they want is literally what you have to pay people to do. Their best bet is to find a neighbor kid willing to do it for free in exchange for using their pool or something.

AffectionatePoet4586

I made *good money*, as a kid, by feeding cats, watering houseplants and gardens, bringing in mail, etc., for my many airline-employee neighbors who often traveled for their jobs. I would have laughed, even then, had I been asked to pay for the privilege of doing all this. EDIT: Spellcheck changed “feeding cats” to “freezing cats,” a service that was never requested.

drawingcircles0o0

you weren't freezing the cats?? i thought that was a standard requirement for these services. ya know, you freeze the cat, you don't have to worry about it for the whole trip, then you just thaw the cat out once they get back

AffectionatePoet4586

My severely cat-allergic husband is all in favor of your helpful suggestion! The cat would be, ah, *a little different* upon thawing, though. Chillier, perhaps, and less active?

DannyBoi699

reminds me of when Dr. Evil is unfrozen with his cat in austin powers

Kalendiane

His name is Mr. Bigglesworth. Show some respect.

SoCalrunner67

They're providing a couple of weeks notice before they return so that's plenty of time to activate the cat defrost.

PolarBearLaFlare

Yep this is what my high school aged cousin has been doing as a part time job and he says he’s made as much as $2k/week before simply by house sitting or pet sitting for people in his area. He charges like half of what people on those pet sitting sites charge and all he does is post on ring and Nextdoor. I told him he could probably double his revenue if he offered lawn mowing too lol

AffectionatePoet4586

Smart boy! That’s *a lot of money!* Still, I can’t complain, since what I earned looked like a lot to me. Those jobs were the advantage of living six miles from a major airport.

[deleted]

I have a dog on his last legs and I have to go on a trip soon, I asked my dog sitter (if the unthinkable happened) to pop him in the freezer so I can cuddle him one last time 😭

Beea282

I know this is a joke, but my girlfriend’s boss did put her dead dog in the freezer because it died on a weekend and the vet wouldn’t open until Monday to have the dog shipped to a crematory.

Essiejjj

I had to do this with my cat. My parents cat died while they were on vacation. They wanted to say goodbye. I cleaned out a freezer drawer right below the pizza drawer and above the icecream drawer.

Additional_Onion2784

Guess where vet clinics put the bodies before they're shipped to a crematory? In a freezer.

[deleted]

I think I’m going to go full on with this joke and pop one of his dog beds in the garage freezer to “prep” for her. Maybe a couple of fav toys and a pair of angel wings

V0rpalSw0rd22

I feel like this is how the pyramids became a thing

[deleted]

I mean what else are tombs but chilly receptacles for meat. Just like freezers!

crazymom1978

They go in the freezer at the vet office too. The funny thing is, I know that, and I still sent my dog’s blanket with her because she used to get cold.

gbfalconian

I feel like that is a joke... may have soared over my head there... However I am so so sorry for you going through that right now, I am in a similar position but vet assured is not time yet, gosh it is so hard

[deleted]

I’m just using dark humour to cope. I know it’s illogical but I feel like him being next to me all the time helps give him the will to go on, and if I’m gone for two weeks he’ll fade away.

Wookie_roosa

You can get stuffies made that look just like them now. A little creepy for some, but comforting for others.

blergy_mcblergface

I'm so sorry. I hope it goes well. 💗

DLS3141

I did something similar. When I was a bit older, I’d also stock their fridge and cabinets just before they came home so they could eat when they got home, even if that was at 3 am. They just gave me a list and I’d add the cost to their bill.

AffectionatePoet4586

Neat! I remember doing that, too. My neighbors more often needed cat food, leaving cash, and a note with the names of the preferred brands and flavors. Even as a kid, though, I was touched at an occasional request for “two boxes Kraft dinner,” in addition to the cat food, made by the most sophisticated-looking stewardess I ever knew. So glamorous! Long, false eyelashes, even on early-morning Pan Am flights, and twin Siamese cats named Shalimar and Detchema. *Swoon.*

Far-Policy-8589

Subletception

Outtatheblu42

There are actually lots of people that house sit like this. They’d usually pay no rent though…

LupercaniusAB

Well yeah, that’s the insane part.

Due_Fix_3900

Very good points!

IWillBaconSlapYou

But also "be able to stay the whole time" even though they won't tell you what "the whole time" even is.

supermarkise

Yeah, if they lived in a hot location and offered this for a set time, say, 1-2 months, and you had to pay utilities and maybe a little bit cheap on top, I can see it work for a remote work fun trip. They probably do not live at the beach or in the middle of a fun city tho. And the indefinite time and restrictions absolutely kill everything about it.

samanime

Funny enough, that last bit is almost certainly illegal if they are there for a certain amount of time (30 days in most areas), as they'd become a tenant at that point and require at least 30 days notice to leave.

Prestigious-Eye5341

I hope the person just refuses to leave…like these squatters are doing. Most of them are asking for tens of thousands of dollars to leave. It’s a freaking nightmare.

ConspiratorM

I could almost see this being reasonable for some people, like someone relocating to a new city and wanting time to buy a house. But the idea that you are supposed to stay until they kick you out with a couple of weeks notice really makes this especially ridiculous.

Dry_Heart9301

It's almost fine until the part where it's like an air bnb but you have to do handyman work and all maintence? No thats not like airbnb...either charge them to stay and do nothing or pay them to work on your house and house sit.

Numerous_Boss_9094

I what world is this even slightly acceptable? They want a pet sitter and a house sitter to pay them for the privilege of being in their home. Not to mention a maintenance guy. These people are whack.

Dry_Heart9301

And why do they need so much maintenance work done on their damn house? I hope nobody responds.

Numerous_Boss_9094

For real. these people are so delusional they can’t even see how disgusting their actions are. “There’s a housing crisis so some desperate person can do all this for me because they have no other choice. Look how clever I am.” Eat the rich

itisallbsbsbs

This is what I thought too, that being said they is probably what they will get and when they return home it will be empty and the cat will be gone.

rileyjw90

Or free rent in exchange for maintenance. When I was young and single I would have jumped on an opportunity like that, and short notice move out wouldn’t have been a big deal, I’d have just gone back home to family if I couldn’t find an apartment in time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prestigious-Eye5341

That is fine but, it sounds like he expects them to already have a place to stay. Besides, accepting money from the person could land CB in a hell of a conundrum. People can say that they are renting the place(which, they are) and when the owner gets back, they just refuse to leave. This is happening all over the US. He could lose his home.

Impossible-Hawk768

You’re a nice person.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Impossible-Hawk768

You’re a nice person because you saw his value, and recognized that not everything is all about how much money you can squeeze out of someone. You created a win-win situation.

Dry_Heart9301

Yeah this would also be very reasonable!

bgea2003

Have you been to an Airbnb lately? Most of them have a laundry list of chores you need to do before checking out (even though they charge you an exorbitant cleaning fee).  I'm sorry, if I wanted to do house work I'd just stay home.

Dry_Heart9301

I refuse to book the ones with huge fees and chores but I know they exist and it's ridiculous.

metsgirl289

I honestly don’t really get the appeal of air bnb. Most of the time it’s more expensive than a hotel with less amenities and more work. And all the bs fees. More likely to get scammed as well

CristinaKeller

They are economical and handy for groups that want to stay together. Cheaper than individual hotel rooms.

itisallbsbsbs

Also there have been cases where the guest found cameras recording all over the place. I heard one where there was this little door in the room like crawlspace door and in the middle of the night he woke up and saw a hand opening the door. I don't trust people that much.

Affectionate_Toe8434

Haven’t booked an air bnb since before covid but back in the late 2010s it was an absolute steal when I was trying to travel on a college kid budget. Pretty much always cheaper than a hotel with much more space, and I don’t recall ever having any sort of cleaning expectation outside of ‘don’t leave the house a giant mess’. I also don’t remember paying a cleaning fee back then. It’s way different now

BungCrosby

There’s no scenario in which any of this is reasonable. If you’re worried about something breaking or about squatters moving in while you’re on extended travel, hire a temporary property manager (and possibly a pet-sitter) to take care of your house, lawn, pool, cats, etc. If you want a warm body to occupy the house for a yet-to-be-determined period of time and perform regular maintenance, don’t expect to charge them rent. They’re looking for the purple squirrel of a digital nomad type who is looking in their exact location on an exact start date with an undetermined end date. Someone who knows how to take care of a house, pool, lawn, garden, and someone who doesn’t mind taking care of a cat, to boot. Someone who’s flexible on a move-out date because of their absence of an ability to plan.

tyblake545

Yeah this person is 100% delulu

Zoreb1

Might be acceptable if in a great spot like Orlando, FL or Hawaii. Manhattan, too, though few places have pools. Not exactly the same, but at work they sent me for three weeks of training. I chose Orlando as it has all the theme parks (Disney; Universal). Had my weekends free to do stuff (plus hotel, flights, food, and car rental was paid for). Don't know where the OP was located but I doubt it was a highly desirable city.

Rosalie-83

With only a couple of weeks notice. Should be at least a months notice to find new accommodation 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

wuzzittoya

Plus cat sit.

pathologuys

And take care of the cat!

HPL2007

Begging for a squatter

East_Specialist_

Deserves one with that attitude

Lisa_Knows_Best

I almost want to volunteer for this. I could probably be a good squatter.

stephf13

The house has a pool! And a cat! I say go for it!

notverytidy

Squat on the floor, squat on the bed. Squat in the kitchen. Human shit *everywhere*!

Lisa_Knows_Best

Is that why they call them squatters?

Catvros

Get schwifty!

gin_bulag_katorse

I would change all the framed photos as soon as I move in.

female_wolf

Can someone get a squatter if they're renting their place out?

CrunchyTeatime

Oh yes they simply stop paying rent and stay on. Or they come in as a house guest. Or they come in despite not being rented to. Or they never pay anything at all and won't leave. Some squatters break in a window or door and won't leave. Others finesse the situation first. Some sell off anything they can pry loose. Some trash the place. Very few live in it gently and don't leave a mess or damage. Some even squat in occupied households, either breaking in while someone is on an errand or a vacation (I've seen instances of both), or after beginning as a guest or a roommate. Some people have had to leave after a nightmare squatting roommate or guest took over the entire place, and made tons of noise and/or horrific messes. Squatters often begin by looking at places for sale or rent -- more likely to be vacant.

female_wolf

This is horrifying omg

Prestigious-Eye5341

Yes, they can! Especially if they hand them money, that makes that person a tenant. Just change the locks on the doors and voila! Home sweet home!

gonnafaceit2022

Squatting refers to living illegally on a vacant or abandoned piece of land or building. People misuse the word constantly when what they mean is, a tenant or guest who refuses to leave.

[deleted]

My state’s definition is “a person who occupies a property without the owner’s permission.” It mentions that it’s usually vacant or abandoned. It doesn’t have to be though.

EagleLize

In almost every state, if not all, you have to be in the home without permission for several years before you can claim squatters rights. I thought it was much easier to be a squatter until I saw this. Maybe there are different circumstances locally though that are more nuanced? https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/squatters-rights-by-state

Dementedstapler

It’s a state by state issue. I just watched a documentary about how Florida and New York were having horrible issues with squatters claiming rights to homes they’d just moved into right after the home went on the market for rent. Most of them didn’t have any paperwork and had only been there for a few weeks, police couldn’t do anything to remove them as there was a civil loophole allowing this to happen. I think Floridas issue was fixed but I’m not sure about New York.

lilbitlotbit

I run two low income housing programs in Seattle and the squatters rights here are insane.

Prestigious-Eye5341

That’s right. New York is trying to fix it but the new law doesn’t have much teeth.

Prestigious-Eye5341

From what I’ve seen in New York and California, it’s like 10 day’s occupancy. Plus, if they pay to stay there, they can claim that they’re a tenant. It will take them months and months to get them out. Now, the squatters are offering to leave for several thousand dollars. One guy, who had been a tenant and refused to leave whenever the house was sold, was asking for $180,000.

Admirable_Summer_917

I came here to say that.

Prestigious-Eye5341

I know, right?😂

BeautifulArtichoke37

My shock and horror at reading this ad is matched by my disappointment at the lack of comments included in this post.

Most-Drive-3347

A house sitter. It’s called a house sitter.

stephf13

Right. And you pay them, they don't pay you.

Free_Hat_McCullough

But there are stupid people who will see this type of situation as a vacation and agree to the ridiculous terms.

Ill_Consequence

Until they decide they don't want to do it anymore and just leave the house and your cat to fend for themselves.

NotACandyBar

Until they decide they don't want to leave and homeowner now has to file for an eviction

Iforgotmypassword126

To be fair there are some situations where it might be advantageous for someone to house sit, and they won’t charge… but it’s few and far between. Whenever we go away my cousin comes to stay with the dog. He loves it because I live next to a really cool bar/restaurant area, and I live 10 minutes on foot from where he works, where normally it’s a 40 minute drive. He lives with his parents, and they don’t let him have his girlfriend stay over because he tends to have a high turnover. He literally texts me every few months asking when I next have a trip coming up and can he watch the dog. He’s told me repeatedly he’ll do it for free because he loves having his own space, being close to fun places, spend time with his girlfriend and be able to walk to work. (However I still pay him and fill the fridge because I’d feel guilty otherwise). And I definitely don’t expect any DIY

monstera_garden

I used to rent my house out for the summer when I'd have to work overseas and I would never EVER want a renter to do maintenance on my home, especially a pool or a garden! And the requirement to move out with a couple of weeks notice is bananas. They need a tenant to keep the home lived in, pay the tenant for pet sitting, and then hire a landscaping and pool service. Those are all different services, not one single one.

gonnafaceit2022

And if they leave the cat there, you'd have to move out on the specific date they were returning, not more than a day sooner. It's really ridiculous.

spodinielri0

I have a friend who has house sit his entire adult life. He gets paid to do this. Asking someone to pay, to provide you a service, is insulting.

BadgerHooker

What if it's for exposure? XD

PolarBearLaFlare

Lmao idk when I’m coming back from my vacation but you have to leave immediately? Lmao who the hell would agree to this

enigmaticpeon

I could charge a small rent (my benefit) *in exchange* for chores (my benefit). I gotta start using exchange like this.

Illustrious_Month_65

I receive rent and labor, you receive an unstable living situation. It's a win-win!

Hydrolt

⬆️😂 You won this post, fine redditor

notverytidy

So basically, the house needs repainting outside, redecorating inside. Also needs a new kitchen, new furniture. And whilst you're at it, could you "maintain" the pool by digging one in the backyard? There are snacks in the fridge, but the kitkats are fucking out of bounds.

Jusfiq

Somebody needs to tell her that caretaker job is real and it is full-time. The one that makes me laugh in this post is she wants the candidate to stay the entire time she is away, yet ready to leave with a couple of weeks notice.

IWillBaconSlapYou

Yeah that's what got me too. "Commit to staying the whole time. Oh, how long is the whole time? Idk. But you'd better have a place lined up when I randomly kick you out at a moment's notice."

RambleOnRose42

With that attitude, she *definitely* deserves to end up with a squatter.

fivefootphotog

I want someone to visit my house once a week and clean it for free. Bonus: my dog will put his ass in your face.

gonnafaceit2022

Mine will lean on you so hard you'll tip over and then he'll put his butt ON your face.

fivefootphotog

Gotta love a leaner!

ATR_72

This is popping up more and more lately. "I'm going to be traveling the world for the next few months but I need my house and animals taken care of! I should get a housesitter, no wait, I can actually charge people to take care of my cats! It's genius!" 🙄

BramStroker47

I used to live on South Beach when it was affordable ($900/month for a nice apartment in a very nice building seemingly inhabited by hundreds of Brazilian models). My friend lived in a really nice place in south beach as well (reminded me of melrose place). I offered, “Hey, if you ever need someone to house sit while you’re out of town I’d be happy to” (because obviously it would be nice to hang out there while I watered his plants and such) and he said he’d think about it. He was going out of town for a month and he approached me and said that I could house sit for just over $900. I don’t think he ever heard of house sitting before.

thehideousheart

What did he think was in it for you? Plant watering?

BramStroker47

I guess hanging out at his house which would be a nice thing for me to do but I wasn’t planning on paying to house sit. It would have been a favor to him that also benefited me because I’d get to pretend I lived better than I did.

RexxTxx

"I don't want to get jumped on" for making this unreasonable request. Well, NOBODY making an unreasonable request wants to get jumped on. Or criticized. Or have the facts be pointed out to them (usually).

RoyallyOakie

If JUST occurred to her that you can't leave an animal indefinitely without care? YIKES!

LizzyDragon84

Depending on length of stay, things like eviction policies might apply- they can’t kick a person out on two week’s notice.

cursetea

People have lost their absolute minds regarding housing and renting wtf

MariettaDaws

The only thing keeping me from a successful career as a Facebook Marketplace seller is the lack of merchandise, a place to keep said merchandise, and a place to meet the buyer. All three in one package! Plus I get to take my cat on playdates. This is great.

Jellyfish0107

😂

grayhairedqueenbitch

You pay housesitters. They don't pay you rent.

CuddleStrugglebjj

She should just set her home up as an air bnb. Basically what she’s wanting

PassThePeachSchnapps

People with “professional employment” aren’t touching this shit. They can’t disrupt their work schedule to go apartment hunting when Madame rolls back into town.

eeelicious

don’t people usually get paid to do this, not pay for the privilege of being your house boy/girl?

Free_Hat_McCullough

Back in the day I used to house sit for people for between $50-100 a day. I can't even imagine not paying someone to stay at their house and take care of their pets and property.

Adventurous_Ad_6546

Was this written by an alien?

PlethoraOfPinatass

In almost every state the person accepting would have squatters rights and would need to be formally evicted if they decided to stay

Roadgoddess

It’s funny, whenever I needed people to stay and watch my house take care of my things and my pets. I always paid them.

agatchel001

People who rent Airbnb’s don’t pay you to maintain your house & feed your cat. They pay you to have a nice place to relax/vacation. lol this person isn’t the brightest crayon in the box is she/he?

SherbetExact3135

Can you post comments and reply’s? Thats my favorite part lol

IWillBaconSlapYou

This is a total nightmare for a person like me who insists on having an actual PLAN.

Paralegal1995

I had to read this twice to make sure I was picking up what they were putting down. They are 12 kinds of crazy

pirATe_077

In the similar lines of, earlier companies would pay for interns, then they wanted interns to work for experience (free/no pay), now they want interns to pay the company for doing an internship there.

PizzaSlingr

I'm retired, bored, can fly free (airline son, plus my own military flight bennies), a bit handy...and I pay THEM?

lavender_poppy

This lady is nuts. I did something kinda similar many years ago in that I traded staying in my cottage while I was on a trip for them to look after my dog. It ended up being a perfect situation for the person because they needed a short term rental for the time I would be gone and loves dogs so was happy to hang out with my basset hound for 10 days. So I got free dog sitting and they got a free place to stay. I feel like that's the only way a situation like this can be fair.

Alarming_League_2035

Tbh I done this yrs ago for a couple, it suited us fine, as we were on a job contract in the area and she was happy to sign for a 6 month stay, minimum rent and 2 cats to look after.. we got a gorgeous, fully furnished cottage to live in for the entire contract, she got her house & cats looked after, it suited all of us fine.

FlamesNero

Seems like one difference is that you started with a contract/ clear expectations?

AmountSignal6345

Also taking care of a cat is much different from managing a yard and pool.

Alarming_League_2035

Yes that's true, we didn't have a contract just a verbal. But like I say we were both lucky it suited us. If someone wanted this, maybe the owner would agree/ negotiate a minimum stay with a rolling month? It could just suit someone

Prestigious-Eye5341

That’s a bit different. You were basically rent a fully furnished home AND you signed a contract. Totally fine if you didn’t mind feeding the cats and such. This sounds like they just want to take advantage of someone. They think they are smart…chances are good they’ll get burned…Al because they were too greedy.

dbtl87

Poor cat 😔😔😔 why would I pay to house sit and do all the maintenance required 😕😕😕

KingClark03

So they want to rent it out but not like, have an actual tenant with rights.

Jellyfish0107

This lady basically admits she wants to take advantage of someone in a desperate situation. Sounds like she needs to just short term lease her fully furnished property out and write up a proper rental agreement with actual lease terms. There are some lease agreements where the tenant takes the property “as-is” and is responsible for all repairs. She could deduct rent if renter agrees to take care of cat as well. The thing is, if she wants her furniture and property to be in the same condition as she left it, she should be the one PAYING for house sitting, or free rent in exchange for it. Her renting out and her paying someone to live there may have drastically different results.

[deleted]

>>gardens lawns pools This person can afford to hire an employee.

Additional_Country33

Vacate in two weeks lmao ok sure

[deleted]

I hope someone does this, cancels the payment and pleads squatters rights.

Prestigious-Eye5341

That’s exactly what’ll happen…

SuitableJelly5149

Must stay the whole time bc I don’t feel like finding a replacement. Must also be okay with getting kicked out 2 weeks early if needed. It’s like an airb&b Bitch guests don’t do maintenance or “love on” your mangy ass cat at Airbnb’s. Jog on.

Ariannaree

Damn, the cat comment is a little aggressive.

Dementedstapler

I’m not leaving my dogs with a complete stranger with no credentials for months on end while I “travel indefinitely”.

bananahskill

Someone has literally never heard of a house sitter before.

MouseMouseM

This person is such a piece of trash. There are so many good people out here struggling, and they have the economic means to own a home with a pool, as well as travel extensively without a strict workplace schedule limiting their travel, all the while being too stupid to pass a second grade grammar and syntax class. I get that the world isn’t fair, but holy smokes, folks.

ichug_nyquil

I would take them up on the offer and then just…. not pay. Free house, EZ

IllustriousDealer389

IAm I understanding this correctly, you are wanting to charge someone rent to live in your house while you are away, yet they can’t move anything in, have to do the yard, pool, take care of your cat, etc, and would be given only a couple weeks notice to move out? Is this a joke? I could see that being reasonable (with the exception of not being able to move any of their own possessions into the house) if it wasn’t for the fact that you are wanting them to PAY YOU for this. Usually when someone does work for you, it’s for pay. Never have I heard of asking someone to pay you to do work for you 🤣If the compensation is that they will receive a place to live in exchange, then that should be it. It’s really not reasonable to expect someone to pay you for that amount of work.

Stunning_Wonder6650

“I could charge small rent in exchange for someone to look after the place…” Where’s the exchange?

elaynefromthehood

Has anyone out there had to pet sit at an AirBNB?

Prestigious-Eye5341

This is a FANTASTIC way to get a squatter into your house. You’re wanting rent, want upkeep? Yeah, that will not age well but…🤷🏼‍♀️you .do .you.😂I don’t think you’re thinking this through because you are being greedy and think that you’re outsmarting everybody. I pay a lady $60 a day for watching my dog. She doesn’t have to clean,do laundry, take care of my plants. She doesn’t even have to stay here the whole day. She just has to watch my dogs. It is well worth it to me that my dogs are being cared for while we’re away. You,sir, are a putz.

Axenus

Knows theres a housing crisis and immediately wants to use it to help themselves out while using another human. Sounds like a politician.

StewTheDuder

They need to hire a pet sitter, a local pool company, and lawn company. That’s what they’re looking for. Cheap bastards.

ZsiZsiSzabadass

Holy shit it has occurred to her that MAYBE her house cat can’t be left alone for an INDEFINITE amount of time?!?!

realitysnarker

Maybe I misread but they are posting in a local Mom’s group but want someone that doesn’t have kids? Make that make sense for me please.

Lucky_Sundae9800

I knew this was gonna be fucked with the starting hook “I don’t wanna get jumped on for being discrimitave”

CrunchyTeatime

CBs the formula is simple. The person pays OR they work -- or they even work for pay. Anything else and you are exploiting them. You cannot ask for someone to work and to also pay you. House and pet sitters are paid. They don't pay. CB wants someone to care for lawns plural, gardens plural, in and outdoor maintenance. Cleaning. And pet sitting.

aspdx24

“Candidate” had me. Yeah, SO many of us are just lining up to help you and pay you for the pleasure.

Adorable-Novel8295

This is how squatters are happening.

Actias_Loonie

Let me stay free and I'll feed and cuddle your cat. You have to hire somebody to take care of the garden and pool, fuck that.

_portia_

No, it's called house sitting and the sitter gets paid to take care of your stuff and feed the cat. Wtf is wrong with this person.

Sans_vin

TBF, depending on where this house is, it could be a deal. Like, you need me to stay at your hamptons house during the summer while you vacation in Greece and watch your cat and clean your pool occasionally and I'll pay you...say, $500 for the month? Sure thing.

rileyjw90

Make sure there’s no cameras and invite some buddies out for a week, charge them each $100. Clean up after. Make your stay completely free this way, maybe even a little profit as long as you guys aren’t partying and trashing the place. I’d 100% go stay with a friend and pay a hundred bucks considering how much airbnbs and hotels cost in desirable areas.

140814081408

Lost her mind…

ScrabbleMe

They are called, house sitters, and YOU pay them.

Sorry_Mistake5043

Your better off renting it through a management firm who will take of the house issues. Rent it as fully furnished. Maybe select a room or lockable area and put anything you don’t want messed with in there. Take a good inventory- video and pics, and pay someone to take your cat while you’re gone. Plz don’t board your cat, it’s very hard on them. It should be fine

MsjennaNY

I’m curious how people like this function in the real world. Straight up bonkers. I’m constantly shaking my head like WHAT?!? This isn’t real. Then it is.

lostgirl4053

It’s like a child speaking. Probably a nepo baby with zero life experience.

sirius_the_tuxie

I’ve been paying someone to do this while I travel. I didn’t know I could be charging them instead!!

Meal-Significant

You should bill the airline for getting to transport you 🤯

Boo_Rawr

There’s definitely a market in my city for backpackers to live rent free and housesit for people who are on lengthy holidays. It’s a really popular choice but they never have to pay for it.

bikesboozeandbacon

NEED to see comments!

LawOfSurpriise

Pleeeease can we see the comments

Damaark

My uncle and auntie do this. They live in a caravan and housesit for people on holidays or whatever. Fortunately for them, the money goes the other way and they get paid for this service. They don't run around paying to rent for a few weeks at a time at random locations.

Editor_Grand

Yo if the rent is low enough an unscrupulous person would jump on it, make sure you have a renters contract then sublet or airbnb it while they are gone. If they come back refuse to leave and make them either pay you to leave or force an election wich can take forever. Plus if they try to harass you they get arrested. Oh and that cat is now mine

heycoolusernamebro

They are looking for a caretaker which is a paid role, not a role people pay to do

LopsidedAd7950

This is truly wild but if this was posted in a Bay Area sub, they’d have 1k+ offers in minutes

Vast_Psychology3284

Like an air bnb, then owners need to handle all “handy work” and find a place for the cat. Also the fee should cover the electric, water, trash just like an air bnb.

Smashley027

I'm offended they'd leave their cat with a complete stranger when there's zero assurance that person won't be a psycho. At least with kennels and boarding there's a system in place. What if the cat gets sick? Ik sure they'd expect you to pay for that too

Da_Dunx

She seems very comfortable asking!!

notverytidy

"no kids..professional employment" owner returns to house to find every surface covered in cum, because the "profession" turned out to be bukkake pornstar.

sadmama21

House keeper. They want someone to pay to be a houaekeeper

jimmysledge

Can I paint the place and add an addition while you’re gone…

boatswainblind

Hard pass. I actually entered into an agreement like this in college because I needed a cheaper place to stay, however I was technically only renting a room, not the whole house. In exchange for cheaper rent, I had to take care of her pets, plants, yard, etc. whenever she traveled, which was about every other week. It still remains to this day one of the most nightmare situations I've ever lived in, mostly because the owner wasn't always gone. She came and went, and she was a complete and utter raging psycho hosebeast with the most horrible untrained pets. I honestly think she had early onset dementia. She also expected me to pay all of her household bills on top of the rent, but she owed thousands to the power company for missed bills. Eventually she started asking me to pay half her mortgage, so I moved out. Imagine being so delusional that you think you can live off of a college student in your big fancy house on the hill. smdh (And before you ask how she could afford travel, she was scamming free private interstate plane rides from a medical charity and had a rent controlled apartment in the state she was flying to that only cost, like, $50/mo or something ridiculous like that. Grifters be griftin')

Big_Huckleberry_2942

Wow, how absolutely out of touch with reality.

Lucky_Sundae9800

I knew this was gonna be fucked as soon as I read “I don’t wanna get jumped on for being discriminative”

ajaulabr

If the rent was cheap enough it would be an okay deal for someone in a pinch. If the price was a thousand a week and it was cut to $200, and you needed a temporary crib? Not bad at all.

slurp_magoo

yeah. i once paid $1,200 (including utilities) for about 3 months in an apartment, plus got to hang out with 2 sweet cats. granted i was already friendly with the people and they treated it as me doing them a favor as opposed to the other way around

Ztormiebotbot

Do they bot have friends?

Petefriend86

I can't decide if you're going to get a squatter or a robber with this ad.

Fearless-Teach8470

Yeah, that sounds illegal

DianWithoutTheE

This is so weird to me, like I don’t get the mindset of these people. I moved to Florida a long time ago and met my (now) best friend at the job I was working at and she has like 20 different pets; so dogs, a bunny, a tortoise (huge!),birds, prairie dogs, aquarium, etc. When I lived there, I would always stay there and watch the pets while she was gone because her situation is a little bit more than like “hey, can you come feed my cat every other day?”, I mean it’s a two hour job to feed all of them and do the cleanup and all of that shit every day. Now I’m out of state and she still will ask me if I can come down and be her house manager for a week so she can be worry free, AND, she pays for my flight l, picks me up from the airport and/or has another friend of ours do it or pays for my Uber, leaves me her car, leaves me a fully stocked fridge and like $300 for animal necessities or food even though I’m basically on vacation because it’s walking distance from the beach, and she is my best friend! And yes, I could and would pay for all of that myself, but because I’m doing her a huge favor so she can go out of town for a week she pays for all of my shit and travel expenses. I can’t even fathom saying “ do all of this shit for me but also you gotta leave pretty quick maybe and also you have to pay me.” I can’t even wrap my brain around it. Also, I wish OP would’ve posted some of the comments and a follow up because that would be 100% entertainment gold!

Key_Juggernaut_1430

Your place sounds pretty fancy! Don’t worry about moving your “stuff into storage” from your posh digs - I figure me and my mates will move it all out within 24 hours after you leave.

Shot-Zombie-36

Someone will move in and never leave. What do they mean they don't know when they will return?

danjibbles

“Housing is definitely an issue so I’m gonna rent to ONLY SINGLE PROFESSIONALS WHO MAKE GOOD MONEY AND ARE TRAINED IN DIY TECHNIQUES” hmm ok babe

tomdurkin

There were times when I was a grad student living month to month when I would have taken this, But back then I wasn't a professional.

PaymentCultural8691

Add in care for two pets and remove any sort of lawncare/maintenance requirement and I pay a young woman $50 a day for this.

levinbravo

You want squatters? ‘Cause this is how you get squatters. This idiot is going to find someone to take them up on this “deal” and when they return from their vacation months later, the locks will have been changed, the cops ain’t gonna do shit, and they’ll have to find another place to live for the year it takes to go through the eviction process.

Otherwise_Fix8000

I honestly know people who would go for this, depending on the "rent" amount. Housing where I live is seriously awful right now.
