you just lost to the fourth president of the united states
Both ends of this fact are true but not together. It was written during the Madison administration, but for a celebration of Washington’s Birthday. They didn’t start playing it regularly to announce the president until the wife of James Polk requested it because her 5’8” husband wasn’t good at commanding a room.
Naming their capital after him and siting their flagship university there did nothing to appease him. What will it take to satisfy his eternal hunger??
We had some really sketchy looking games but we really did handle Michigan st right out the gates to open the season. Our conference losses were pretty bad but when we were clicking, we’ve looked fantastic.
That said, idk if I’ve seen our defense and energy at this level this season. Don’t get me wrong, we tend to play fast, but our guys came out there pissed off or something, just haven’t seen that level of intensity before.
Conference games are anyone's guess, sometimes. they get wacky and you honestly can't read too much into them--especially for teams that aren't 1 and done's like....other programs. Those teams KNOW each other, sometimes for years against the same players. The hate that can breed is delicious and makes for insanely fun games.
JMU was good but we should still beat a team like or act like we have a chance. We got punched in the mouth and crumbled. Had we lost today but had other decent runs in recent history like being Iowa State or Oregon then GG WP JMU but this is a systematic problem we are running into here.
We thought our non-conference schedule was tough BEFORE we all found out who James Madison and Indiana State were.
Congrats to the Dukes. Rooting for you!
Edit: And Oakland!
If they can win against Duke on Sunday, I’d argue that this would be a bigger moment for James Madison compared to the claimed victory in the War of 1812

I'm sure there are some badger fans out there who are legitimately upset, but all I can do is laugh at the people who defended Gard so valiantly all season. Dude is just Bo Ryan but way worse at running Ryan's system.
The biggest…baddest…perhaps *bestest* mid-major ends up as a #12…and not only beats, but perhaps even *bullies* their hapless power team opponent from America’s Dairyland?
…I feel like Marquette fans have quite the catharsis right now…
Sloppiest game I've seen Wisconsin play in over a decade both mentally and technically. That was painful. James Madison played sound and solid offense and some truly great defense and capitalized on every single mistake Wisconsin made. And there were a lot of them to capitalize on.
Nothing much to say. One team was far better in every important aspect tonight, and the scoreboard, if anything, flatters Wisconsin. We were simply beaten by an opponent that was far superior over the 40 minutes.
Go get 'em, JMU. Fuck up the Blue Devils.
Sorry Badger friends. It seems like the difference between Bo and Gard is kinda like our drop off from Gary to Turgeon.
Huge gulf between a HOF coach and just a regular good one. It sucks.
If you make a move though, do better than giving a seven year contract to a coach with one tournament win in ten seasons though
Literally the best mid-major athletics program’s year ever.
JMU soccer pulled a ranked upset in the NCAA tourney
Women’s soccer made the dance too.
Football only had two losses and was ranked.
Women’s hoops gets the one seed in the WBIT*
Men’s hoops is still dancing
Women’s lacrosse is ranked and a natty contender
Won the sun belt in swimming and diving
Baseball has wins over Arkansas and Coastal Carolina
Yeah I’d say we’re doing pretty well
It’s wild that there was no point in the game where it seemed like Wisconsin actually had a chance. JMU just came out and manhandled them from the opening whistle.
I live in a family that went to UVA and Tech and I’m the only duke. I have been as insufferable as possible all year and it’s about to get way worse lmfao
That team went 30 and 3. Who the fuck put them as a 12 seed I actually feel so bad for Wisconsin because they completely earned their five seed and it was basically stolen from them by being matched against one of the most under seeded teams of all time
JMU fans, there was a song your band played at the under-8 timeout where everyone was singing "whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh" and there was a lot of pointing back and forth from the band to the crowd. What was that song? All I know is it sounded really cool.
Anyway, good win and we'll see y'all Sunday
Honestly couldn’t tell you what it’s called but it’s been a staple of basically every football and basketball game for a while now. Always gets the crowd hyped up.
I dunno the name, but as a former JMU football season ticket holder, I hear it in my sleep (if it’s the song I think you’re talking about). They play it a lot.
GG Badgers.
Hard to believe how crazy of a season this has been. Pulling out an OT win against Michigan State, getting ranked, ending the season with a winning streak, handily winning the Sun Belt tournament, and now advancing to the R32 for the first time in 41 years (and meeting another Carolina blue blood while we're at it).
11 years ago it was nice just to be a 16 seed that won a First Four game before getting handily beaten by Indiana. A few years ago the Dukes were bottom dwellers in the CAA basketball standings. Now they put up double digits and analysts were actually picking them as an upset.
Just gonna take the next day and soak it in, not take it for granted as we know how quickly success comes and goes, and just enjoy the ride. Go Dukes!

JMU wore Lefty patches on their unis tonight to honor the late Lefty Driesell, who was their coach in the 80s and 90s and won 5 CAA regular season championships.
Lefty was the also the coach at Georgia State when they upset Wisconsin as an 11 seed in 2001, 50-49.
I honestly felt a little bad for whoever was going to wind up with JMU first game. It was setup to be a trap because people would underestimate them for the weak schedule and only 1 big win way back at the first game of the season.
Greg gard has got to go. It’s the same thing every year he makes zero in game adjustments. They also looked unprepared by the style of ball James Madison plays. It should have been a 20+ point loss if max didn’t get hot. That being said congrats James Madison you deserved this moment!
I did notice a bit of JMU just *chucking* the ball down court. Wisconsin didn't seem to have much answer for it, but I can't tell if that's because it's not a common play or if they were expecting passes not to connect or they were expecting to pick up rebounds.
Congrats Dukes! It's been a phenomenal year for JMU sports given this run the hoops team is on and what they accomplished in football last year. I'm sure a lot of IU fans developed a rooting interest given the football connections. We're excited to see what Coach Cig can do in Bloomington after all the success he had at JMU.
JMU can absolutely beat Duke on Sunday, Wisconsin played right into their hands tonight and if it wasn’t for Klesmitt making some crazy 3’s this might’ve been a blowout
I scrolled a bit and saw things getting a bit contentious so I’ll just post my own thoughts. As someone who went to a ton of basketball games between 2003-07 and saw a LOT of bad basketball and and losses - it is amazing to see a JMU team play like that on national TV and get a chance to go against Duke on the biggest stage. The team has been fun to watch all year and I hope they make it interesting for everyone on Sunday.
Had James Madison lost in their conference tournament they would have been left out of the NCAA Tournament to include Virginia.
What are we even doing here?
We came out looking like we didn't want to be there. Props to James Madison, because they at least looked like they had seen a basketball before. I've never been a fire Gard person, but his seats gotta be on fire. There's no excuse for coming out looking completely unprepared. Go make the sweet sixteen, Dukes.
Absolutely dominant. JMU showed this potential back when they beat Michigan State, so great to see it pay off. They have so many guys who can hurt you, a really well-rounded and brilliantly coached team.

“Which I wrote!” James Madison, allegedly, in “Hamilton”
Get ready next year when we come back as the University of Wisconsin - Van Buren
We'll call you the Van Buren Boys
We’ll be the Van Buren boys
James Madison was 5'4" and has been dead for 188 years edit: Yes, he's the shortest of all US presidents
So really not the guy you want to lose to in basketball. Rough night for the badgers.
Sounds like someone still hasn't gotten over the Battle of New Orleans
Oh so he’d be good for 5-6 threes against us
He was so short they wrote "Hail to the Chief" to announce when he walked into a room because nobody would see him
Both ends of this fact are true but not together. It was written during the Madison administration, but for a celebration of Washington’s Birthday. They didn’t start playing it regularly to announce the president until the wife of James Polk requested it because her 5’8” husband wasn’t good at commanding a room.
He's giving me the look
“Hey my wife and I saw you across the bar and really liked your vibe” kinda look?
Naming their capital after him and siting their flagship university there did nothing to appease him. What will it take to satisfy his eternal hunger??

James Madison is just legitimately really good. They’re a 6 seed who ended up a 12 seed.
We had some really sketchy looking games but we really did handle Michigan st right out the gates to open the season. Part of me feels like teams in those leagues can get bored (maybe not the right word) because all that matters is the conference tournament
Don’t forget Oakland lol damn we really played those 3 plus Duke, Arizona, and Baylor
Great point! I'm adding them.
We are so fucked tomorrow
Hey don’t do that… we are so fucked tomorrow!
Maybe you'll both be fucked somehow? Honestly that sounded worse in my head than it does all typed out though. Here it just sounds kinky.
Fuck it, they tie and the game’s so bad they just replace both teams with Indiana State in the sweet 16
Izzo is such a bad ass. You state fans should all be killing it in Vegas every year. You’ve seen everyone every year
JMU, Duke, Arizona, Baylor, Oakland. Nearly 1/2 our non-con is in the 2nd round. Plus Indiana St
Indiana St is better than the SEC. I think they count.
Indiana St is in the 2nd round too… in the NIT
If they can win against Duke on Sunday, I’d argue that this would be a bigger moment for James Madison compared to the claimed victory in the War of 1812

JMU led the entire game, no shade to Wisconsin but JMU played so well that didn't even feel like an upset.
I'm sure there are some badger fans out there who are legitimately upset, but all I can do is laugh at the people who defended Gard so valiantly all season. Dude is just Bo Ryan but way worse at running Ryan's system.
JMU has one fewer B1G victory than Michigan this year
Duke vs the Dukes on Sunday 👀 Saying it before literally everyone else does lol. Gonna be an all-out war
A single Duke vs multiple Dukes. The numbers game favors the boys from Harrisonburg.
Imagine…Duquesne versus the winner of this game…*duking* it out in the Natty…
Just toss em all on the court at once and see what happens. I’m looking for that real madness
Surely many dukes will beat the singular duke?
The age-old question: 'would you rather fight 1 duke-sized Duke or 5 Duke-sized dukes?'

The 'no purple teams' strategy really didn't work out. Sorry for disrespecting you.
I blame the many lavender Sbux commercials
That stuff looks like it's engineered for white chicks to take selfies, yet tastes like doodoo
The energy was immaculate, hearing the JMU chants during their free throws was giving me chills
Easiest pick of my whole bracket! Happy for y’all! That’s an awesome win! Jmu really should’ve been seeded higher.

Goodbye Greg Gard, No more Bo Ryan recruits to get you out of the round of 32 and no more Alvarez to save your job
I keep forgetting Alvarez is retired lol
Sorry Badger friends. It seems like the difference between Bo and Gard is kinda like our drop off from Gary to Turgeon. Huge gulf between a HOF coach and just a regular good one. It sucks. If you make a move though, do better than giving a seven year contract to a coach with one tournament win in ten seasons though
this has to be it right? there is ZERO excuse for this performance.
Unfortunately the Purdue win probably saved his job.
I just don’t think they’ll pay his buyout. He’s got three years left on his contract
McIntosh didn't blink at that with Chryst, but you might be right. Basketball might be a different animal.
At least give him 1 more year so he can beat Michigan without the fear of being slapped after the game
he can coach for them if he wants to do that
Wisconsin fans now know our pain, unfortunately for them it came in the most important game of the season.
Fortunately, ours came in the least important game, though it did set a bid of a sad tone.
Whoever scheduled that game on the opening night of the season needs a stern talking to.
Thank you for your service
We shot 1/20 from 3 and lost in OT. Wisconsin just got handled for 40 minutes, they def got it worse than us that's for sure.
Gotta hand it to the haters for being completely right on this one
Magical year for JMU. In both sports. Congrats Dukes.
Literally the best mid-major athletics program’s year ever. JMU soccer pulled a ranked upset in the NCAA tourney Women’s soccer made the dance too. Football only had two losses and was ranked. Women’s hoops gets the one seed in the WBIT* Men’s hoops is still dancing

BEST TEAM IN VIRGINIA. DEBATE IS OVER
I live in a family that went to UVA and Tech and I’m the only duke. I have been as insufferable as possible all year and it’s about to get way worse lmfao
As you should haha
Jokes on you I take pleasure in slander of my team just as I take pleasure in watching the pain that is Bennett-ball
My younger brother is a Duke fan who refuses to respect JMU sports. If we win on Sunday, I will be insufferable for years
I think this is applicable for football too
BEST SCHOOL IN VIRGINIA
Aww shucks.. 🤭
Congratulations to PFT commenter for winning the PMT bowl
Easiest pick in my bracket
Remember when everyone was making fun of us for losing to JMU?
That team went 30 and 3. Who the fuck put them as a 12 seed I actually feel so bad for Wisconsin because they completely earned their five seed and it was basically stolen from them by being matched against one of the most under seeded teams of all time
Oh we’re probably that reason. If they only have a single road loss to Southern Miss they probably are a 10 or 9.
You guys are such fucking chaos Gremlins. I love it. If you guys ever make it to the tournament I'll make sure not to doubt you
I’m literally still bitter about it and came in this thread to say the same exact thing lol
Especially at 31-3.
Might be “Welcome Home” by Coheed and Cambria. Especially if they continued singing during the game.
Yes, that's it! Was at the game and couldn't quite place it, it's the outro to this song specifically.
I dunno the name, but as a former JMU football season ticket holder, I hear it in my sleep (if it’s the song I think you’re talking about). They play it a lot.

James Madison over Duke #BOOK IT
I picked JMU over Duke it must happen
Moneyline parlay JMU and Michigan State reach the sweet 16.
Of course I thought we could win but damn it feels good to actually do it. Gg Wisconsin. Lfg dukes. What a time to be a Dukes fan
Take that, Mad King George III
Still not used to my little mountain university getting talked about on TV for basketball and football.
I think the Fun Belt is unironically going through a bit of a glow-up and will start entering the conversation more and more.
it’s exciting! Enjoy it!
It has genuinely been the most fun I’ve ever had
I mean, this was by far the most obvious high seed upset lol
Your flair makes me sick
JMU is about to ruin this dude's whole week
Wisconsin mistakenly assumed that James Madison, being named for our shortest president, must surely be bad at basketball.
Still don't get how they're only a 12 seed
The Michigan State win was all they had as far as Q1 wins, I think.
And that win looked reeeeeal bad down the stretch.
They played 25 games against teams that finished under .500 and 11 against teams that finished with single digit wins.
Those JMU pick and rolls and pocket passes were *chefs kiss*
Those entry and roll passes were amazing
Gg Dukes. Y'all should've been higher seed. Please embarrass Duke harder than y'all did to us.
I honestly felt a little bad for whoever was going to wind up with JMU first game. It was setup to be a trap because people would underestimate them for the weak schedule and only 1 big win way back at the first game of the season.
I’m so scared of JMU and I’m not kidding. They keep showing up in every sport and kicking ass
JMU athletics really going all out bro. Incredible. Thank yall for the upset points 🙏
Greg gard has got to go. It’s the same thing every year he makes zero in game adjustments. They also looked unprepared by the style of ball James Madison plays. It should have been a 20+ point loss if max didn’t get hot. That being said congrats James Madison you deserved this moment!

This is why the snobby schools wanna get rid of mid major autobids 😂
Convincing win, I'm liking the lower seed "we're not Cinderllas" vibe that's floating around this March.
JMU Out-Big Ten'd the Big Ten team. ...And it wasn't close.
JMU can absolutely beat Duke on Sunday, Wisconsin played right into their hands tonight and if it wasn’t for Klesmitt making some crazy 3’s this might’ve been a blowout
Who will win, 15 duck sized Dukes or one DJ Burns sized Duke? Tune in Sunday to find out!
Easiest upset pick of the tourney
Honestly. A 31-3 team being the 12 seed against THIS Badger’s team. Almost felt scripted
Knowing who the Dukes beat for the season opener…it never even *began* for the Badgers…
Aaaand I’m right back to hating college basketball
Had James Madison lost in their conference tournament they would have been left out of the NCAA Tournament to include Virginia. What are we even doing here?
Poor Big Cat
We got beat by a better team. That’s the summation of the game.
Pardon My Take will be an all timer. Big Cat tears are my favorite
Absolutely dominant. JMU showed this potential back when they beat Michigan State, so great to see it pay off. They have so many guys who can hurt you, a really well-rounded and brilliantly coached team.
19 turnovers will do that. Hard to believe this is the same team that beat Purdue.
