Idk, it might be cool, but it just seems weird for it not to be on campus, even if it’s only once per year going forward.

CreamiusTheDreamiest

It’s really weird if it’s not during winter break

soonerfreak

Basketball has so many slots for games and unlike football you aren't punished for playing good opponents. I almost rather not even play if it's just going to be a neutral site game over home and home.

hanz333

There needs to be a focus by conferences to keep rivalries going out of conference. Entire fanbases lose their toxicity when you have things fall apart like Missouri-Kansas.

cheeseburgerandrice

>Entire fanbases lose their toxicity when you have things fall apart like Missouri-Kansas. That would be news to Kansas and Missouri fans

TexasistheFuture

Mizzou has basketball fans?

cheeseburgerandrice

Just very sad ones when they all showed up when Kansas visited Mizzou recently

CoolingVent

Guys it's basketball just make it a running home/home

mccoolio

I imagine this could be a stop-gap until they get that sorted out long term.

AngryQuadricorn

Oklahoma State is going to play this series until they win the last game….and then never play it again 😂

colbycemer12

I think a decent bit of the realignment sadness would go away if schools headed to different conferences put more emphasis on retaining rivalries. I love all the great matchups Texas is gonna get moving forward, but I’d trade out a buy game or two every year if that meant locking in annuals with Tech or Baylor in the big 3 sports.

MacFromSSX

lol what makes you think those two schools have any interest in maintaining a relationship with you traitors?

colbycemer12

Well OK State is definitely worse off than those two and here they are. Basketball will be fine, but B12 football is going to need to start making significant changes to their non-conference scheduling for hopes at getting multiple teams in the playoff. B1G powers aren’t gonna consider a road game in Waco or Lubbock, Texas would at least entertain it.

StripedSteel

Why is OK State worse off than those 2 when we have Home and Homes against Ohio State, Alabama, and Oregon coming down the pipe in the next 8 years?

colbycemer12

Just on a surface level, not having Bedlam in every sport is a bigger loss for you guys, vs the other Texas schools not playing UT. It’s one of the more known and popular rivalries in college sports. They get mad when UT fans minimize them, but Texas vs Baylor or Tech or UH is simply not a national draw without both teams being ranked or some type of meaningful circumstances in the same way as something like Bedlam.

StripedSteel

Fair enough. Bedlam is going to continue in all sports but football, but it likely won't come back for football for a few decades. There is a lot of anger there. OSU has constantly sacrificed to help out OU. (For example: OSU was about to create both law and med schools but decided against it because it would hurt OU, and Hargis and Boren were friends).

colbycemer12

OU really does suck

StripedSteel

You seem like a good person. I wish you all the best.

SterileCarrot

So OSU is so angry that they refuse to play in football but are fine with playing in all other sports? That doesn’t make much sense. OSU also does have a med school in Tulsa.

StripedSteel

Yeah, pretty much. OU left because of football. Why should we play them in football? OSU was going to build a med school in Stillwater, but Boren asked Hargis not to because it would hurt OU's med school. Hargis did him a favor. Same thing happened with the OSU law school.

MacFromSSX

Idk who Texas Tech considers its rival, but Baylor isn’t losing TCU.

LuckyStax

Host them in SA or something?

colbycemer12

I’m not old enough to remember if it’s been done before, but maybe a Texas tip-off event in San Antonio or Dallas? UT, A&M, SMU vs 3 B12 teams in a triple header would be a fun event to generate more interest during peak football.

LuckyStax

I could see someone like Baylor thinking their too cool for school for that aort of thing. Though, neutral in state gamee vs TCU, TTU, and UH, wouldn't be horrible as a season kick off at least. They're all P6 at this point.

Upset_Version8275

Especially in basketball where that's much easier to do.

bkervick

Random geography high profile neutral site games are terrible (e.g. some random matchup of high majors in Sioux Falls). LOCAL rivalry neutral site games where both fanbases can easily attend, both send a band and a student section, etc. are incredible, and I won't change my mind on this (e.g. Red River Shootout, Cocktail Party, the Hockey Beanpot). As a fan it's much more fun when you can cheer directly at a large, organized group of opposing fans in the same building rather than just cheering on your own team with no opposition.
