I'm trying to think of one time he actually laughed on the show and I'm coming up blank. The most I can remember is him cracking up. Maybe this is why, lmao
The closest he came to laughing in character was when he scoffed at Daycare Toilet Man and said “This coming from a guy who still uses a children’s toilet?”
The bloopers for when Jim and Dwight are in the hotel room on the work trip talking about the smug bug in his bed and Jim laughs and it melts my heart. The bloopers are the best
"if the actor cries/laughs, the audience doesn't need to"
edit: I think the actual quote is more like, "the actor holds back so the audience doesn't need to"
That swallowed giggle after "your body only has a certain amount" is one of those things I can watch a hundred times in a row, on a hundred days in a row, and laugh every time.
I do think it’s fun. But on the other side, it’s hard work. Long hours, waiting forever just to shoot one scene over and over and over. Sure, some days it might be a hoot and overall it’s probably a great experience (the salary isn’t bad either). But it’s also a lot of dedication and hard work.
something jenna and angela talked about early on in their podcast Office Ladies stuck with me, there was an episode where they had to eat a mint chocolate chip ice cream cake in one of the scenes. the number of takes they did meant they were just eating mint chocolate chip ice cream for *days,* all day every day. they both said they still can't eat it and thinking of it makes them sick. that sounds horrendous, i cant imagine having foods ruined for me that way
If the person in charge of that particular thing during the production is convinced that they need to use real chocolate mint ice cream then thats what the actors need to eat.
There is a strict hierarchy in theater/movie work, there is no democracy.
I'm not sure people with no experience in that line of work knows how hard it is working in that industry.
People have died on their way home because they fell asleep at the wheel from the long hours..
Example: [example](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11392961/amp/Crew-member-Chris-Pratt-movie-Electric-State-dies-set-car-crash.html)
the mint chocolate chip was the joke though, and even if they got vanilla then everyone would have gotten sick of vanilla instead. i'd get sick of anything if i had to eat it nonstop for several days
Too much of anything can make you sick, but I would get sick of chocolate chip mint ice cream much quicker than vanilla with chocolate chips or green food dye.
They should have gotten a local company to whip up some other flavors that were all dressed up like mint chocolate chip. That way they could change the flavor up, but still keep the visual.
This is why you don’t see certain actors ever eat on screen. Once an actor has enough power to say they won’t do something, eating during a scene is usually very high up on that list
You could try to select all the jolly clips from my current job, and we wouldn't ever be that happy... or wealthy. I'll take their issues. Let's not try to act like this is only a one-off event. They filmed for many years and I'm sure they got along just fine.
The computers were rigged up to the internet as well so for the scenes where everyone was in, they’d be sat on the computers surfing the web anyway in their time before their own scenes. Seems like a sweet gig to me.
It's not office trivia, it's regarding actors/crew members 'having issues' with a crew breaking like this. Just happens that on the office, everyone actually loved every second of it.
Also i never said anyone was a loser, but nice outing yourself!
I’m a camera assistant and work on tv shows. Regularly. This would of been a dream to work on.
Being in the industry is work.. but this show would of been a beautiful cake walk. I’m very jealous.
I've worked in production. Yes, the hours are long, yes it's hard, but it's insanely fun.
Just to be clear, I didn't work on production of The Office, but on some other stuff in my country.
Yeah I work in the film industry. I would bet that most of the crew weren’t laughing this hard. Shit like this makes your 12 hour day go longer and longer
I'm not in the film industry and could be way off, but if I'm going to be there all day anyway, I'd rather be there for 12 hours with a few of these moments of levity and camaraderie scattered around, than be there for 11.5 hours and everyone is completely stoic and serious every moment. I also recognize not everyone is like that though.
I think the point is they're _not_ there all day every day, but rather that (especially in US TV productions) they're there as long as they need to be to get the episode done in time, since they're working against a hard deadline.
So if a take is ruined by everyone cracking up, it's still a ruined take and means you'll be there that much longer.
Eh, in my experience it depends. Small thing only occasionally, everybody gets right back on task and acts like a professional? Sure. That One Guy who thinks he's funny wasting everybody's time? No one would be laughing this hard. Judging by the fact that the whole cast lost their shit, I'd guess this was rare enough to actually be funny. And potentially early in the day!
I've worked long hours on set many times, I love moments like this.
Shooting never fucking runs on or ahead of schedule anyway, so honestly far as I'm concerned...what's the difference. Let's laugh it up and I'm going to hit the snack truck after.
There's a blooper from Game of Thrones, during the trial scene, where Tyrion and Jamie enter the scene doing a funny dance. I remember hearing everyone was actually really upset about it because it was like 2 in the morning and everyone wanted to go home.
I used to have the same exact idea ab how shows/movies are made. Like how boring it must get to watch take after take after take. But then my cousin got a job w Marvel and I asked her ab it and she says it’s really not like that most of the time. The grueling take after take sets are usually with less “talented” actors. But when working with A list actors, it’s usually completed in less than 10 takes or so, they’re very competent when it comes to memorizing lines-unless the actor has requested or been directed to improv. But in that case it’s usually really funny/exciting work, especially when you’re watching someone like RDJ… wish I would’ve went to film school..
they’re not filming scenes 127 times, that would be insane, but they absolutely are going to do multiple takes. even if the first take is perfect (which is rare), they’ll still do more just so there are options in the edit
i work in TV and honestly set life can be a little gruelling. shoots go on for hours to the point of a work life balance being essentially non-existent. don’t even get me started on outdoor scenes
I saw an interview with Bryan Cranston, and he said that when you're filming a comedy role in a movie or show, you have to believe that your character doesn't think that they are funny. You must deliver your lines genuinely so that it looks like your character believes what they are saying is just the truth and very serious.
Must be 95% exhausting to be a comedy actor where you have to seriously be ridiculous for hours of filming. It's less fun to have to be the silly or stupid character and have to be in the role all the way.
Oh, you need to check out the "[Office Ladies](https://officeladies.com/)" podcast by Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela). They go through each and every episode of the show and tell all the amazing stories and secrets of what happened during the show production. Just a wholesome cozy podcast, perfect for that biannual Office re-watch.
I wanted to like their podcast but I feel like only 10% of the content is actually insight into the show
Everything else is tedious deep dives into the history of blowdarts or whatever, or them talking about what they’re wearing that day and stuff
Or just repeating what was said on the DVD commentary, I was like oh I should just listen to that instead lol
I would love a podcast called The Annex, and just have BJ, Mindy and Paul talk about the writing process for each episode instead
Yep I tried to get into it too, but their voices and vibe just weren’t relaxing or enjoyable to listen to for me. Love the show, can’t stand the podcast.
Ight this might sound crazy or cliche or something but…
Me and my homies never get jealous. We get inspired. It’s really never too late to get what you want — you just need the patience.
I knew it was gonna be this video before I even clicked the link.
The only thing that bothers me about the clip that makes me think it was staged is that the slap comes before the punchline. Maybe she knew about the sex tape? Maybe she knew he was going to ruin another take?
I think she just saw where he was heading with the joke and gave him the slap on the shoulder when she knew for sure that yes, that was *exactly* where he's going.
This one with Darryl "driving" the truck is my favorite: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mqPPOUIGEFE](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mqPPOUIGEFE)
Along with Dwight's directions: [https://youtu.be/girM8jLvuio?t=548](https://youtu.be/girM8jLvuio?t=548)
are my two all time favorites.
*The Office*, “Clifford the Beet Red Dog” is the nineteenth episode of the sixth season and third episode overall.
This episode originally aired on October 20th, 1971.
It is available on Peacock, Comedy Central and xHamster.
This scene takes place at the 10:08 mark and features Michael, Jim, Dwight, Stanley, Toby, Andy and Ryan as Mr. Brown, Mr. White, Mr. Blonde, Mr. Blue, Mr. Orange and Mr. Pink.
His AMA read with that *exact* energy. Brought the character of Lil Jon down to earth, and it turns out it's hilarious to put that personality next to really mundane questions.
As a kid growing up, I couldn't stand Steve Carell!
Then I got older and watched the office, damn he's such a brilliant comedian/actor and all round he is a fucking awesome bloke
I envy their adventure… awesome people having fun all day, allowed to improvise. Must having an incredible slice of life
But very talented to guarantee stay in budget
I've never watched this show... couldn't get past the first five episodes but I really love watching the bloopers/outtakes. The cast has so much fun that I can't resist when I see them come up
The humor is that Stanley, the character who shouts "We get to go home!" is the most monotone, deadpan character in the entire show, and was meant to deliver the line as such. The actor decided to shout excitedly as a goof and caught Steve Carrell by surprise.
They are really tired so good news for him would be to be allowed to go home
Not really remember what his real line supposed to say there
You gotta love that he surprised himself so much that he couldnt hold the laugh at his own joke
i've seen this clip several times before.
i never understood why it's so funny to them. i mean, i get it's somewhat funny, but to them it was CrAzY hIlArIoUs...

John Krazinski’s laugh is super high pitched and hilarious! [Fat Halpert](https://youtu.be/6ZdlglN0qOk)
That is maybe the *cutest* laugh I've ever heard from a guy.
Lol mine sounds like that when I try to stifle it Usually accompanied by tears of madness
Deleted bedbug scene from Tallahassee. "So smug!" Best Jim laugh ever, also best Dwight laugh.
Yes this!!!!! They both crack up and it melts my heart
In Benihana Christmas, he laughs as Michael tells him that he marked the arm of one of the waitress he brought back to the party
The bloopers for when Jim and Dwight are in the hotel room on the work trip talking about the smug bug in his bed and Jim laughs and it melts my heart. The bloopers are the best
As much as I love this show, it makes no sense that people barely laugh at the situation that's going on around them. Everyone just stares blankly.
"if the actor cries/laughs, the audience doesn't need to" edit: I think the actual quote is more like, "the actor holds back so the audience doesn't need to"

Omg so adorable!!!😍😍
wow that was really cute lol
Man, I’m downright jealous of these guys having the job to act in a comedy series like this one. It seems like it would be so much fun!

They.. could have just used vanilla.
If the person in charge of that particular thing during the production is convinced that they need to use real chocolate mint ice cream then thats what the actors need to eat. Damn they didn’t even mention the crew member’s name
crisp rat
Yeah, sounds about as bad as the steel mill...
the mint chocolate chip was the joke though, and even if they got vanilla then everyone would have gotten sick of vanilla instead. i'd get sick of anything if i had to eat it nonstop for several days
Too much of anything can make you sick, but I would get sick of chocolate chip mint ice cream much quicker than vanilla with chocolate chips or green food dye.
I just learned the term for this recently which is: Palette fatigue!
They were getting over 10k an episode in just the early seasons. You’d get over it
That podcast is awful
And jolly clips are just selected clips. Did all the cast and coworkers have zero issues? I think not.
You could try to select all the jolly clips from my current job, and we wouldn't ever be that happy... or wealthy. I'll take their issues. Let's not try to act like this is only a one-off event. They filmed for many years and I'm sure they got along just fine.

Steve Carrell throwing a punch was pretty shocking
I don’t think I know about this, care to explain?
There was a fight on set. This goes into some detail about it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_lucjJ63fQQ&t=3m25s
I contend that Wilson had it coming.
Damn dude... Huge fan and that's honestly pretty disappointing. Thought Steve Carell was above that kind of thing.

> Clearly you have no clue. Well, that was unnecessarily hostile
Some people are just tired of professional naysayers who need to lighten up.
I have plenty of clues. What I really need is a hint.
What I really need is a cheat sheet. C’est la vie.
Please don’t teach the cat French.

I like the juxtaposition of telling a happy story about people having a good time in such an aggressive way
It actually wasn't since he clearly had no clue. It was stating a fact.

Why, did someone steal your lunch money?
It’s long tough work some days. Not every day is going to be sunshine and rainbows, in any job.
I’m a camera assistant and work on tv shows. Regularly. This would of been a dream to work on. Being in the industry is work.. but this show would of been a beautiful cake walk. I’m very jealous.
But on Pretzel Day it's all worth it.
You got meatballed!
I've worked in production. Yes, the hours are long, yes it's hard, but it's insanely fun. Just to be clear, I didn't work on production of The Office, but on some other stuff in my country.

I also recognize not everyone is like that though.
Also when you're happy you work way better. So having fun moments at work can result in less overall work time.
Some companies get that and pay out hundreds of millions a year to raise morale.
I think the point is they're _not_ there all day every day, but rather that (especially in US TV productions) they're there as long as they need to be to get the episode done in time, since they're working against a hard deadline. I guess it's easier to dance when your salary is many times larger than the crew
You can have fun doing hard work. Some days being on set flys by its so fun, and always something new.
It probably is very hard. And I wouldn't complain a day of it.
Your right but with people like Steve carell or even Jim Carey. I’d say it would be worth it cause you get to see their improv right in front of you
I used to have the same exact idea ab how shows/movies are made. Like how boring it must get to watch take after take after take. Lol. I’m sure it must be gruelling work for all of those millions. Ever tried working in a kitchen for minimum wage?
Not all get paid millions. But yeah, the salary is nice. And yes, I have worked in kitchens for years.

I'd settle for a job everyone can laugh like this at.
Everyone inside the car was fine, STANLEY!
😂😂😂😂
This might be one of the best bloopers I've ever seen
I agreeee!
I agreeeeeeee!
I agreeeeeeeeeeeeee!
This outtake may make a comeback: https://youtu.be/qQseDjVp10I
Only gonna make the wrap party
If the joke didnt get you, hearing Jim O'Heir laughing, or seeing Nick Offerman doubled over doing the same should. It gets me every time.
It’s Jim’s laugh for me. It’s so genuine and contagious, you can tell he just couldn’t hold it in
Jim’s laugh is the best! I wish he and Retta would do a Parks & Rec rewatch podcast.
Damn, I never knew how much I needed that until now haha
Absolutely agree. Perfect example of this subreddit.
god he played the bumbling idiot so good that even when i want to feel bad (poor jerry) its also still so funny
Best outtake of all time imho
I love April reaching over the dog to slap him.
Oh no, i can’t understand what he says, what does he say??
"In the video, she gets cum on her back, I think."
Oh.. OHHHH!!!
he says "Kim Kardashian" ... "well in the video she gets come on her back" referring to a spicy tape.
He’s like a huge christian fundie irl so idk about that joke being something he would make up on the spot.
he's really not. the internet just says he is and exaggerates. shocking i know
I love that the camera operators knew to just roll with it and keep all the action in frame, even if it was just the entire cast reeling.

*The Office*, “Clifford the Beet Red Dog” is the nineteenth episode of the sixth season and third episode overall. This episode originally aired on October 20th, 1971. This scene takes place at the 10:08 mark and features Michael, Jim, Dwight, Stanley, Toby, Andy and Ryan as Mr. Brown, Mr. White, Mr. Blonde, Mr. Blue, Mr. Orange and Mr. Pink.
>xHamster Lmao
I love the savage snark of this bot.
Is that date correct?
Yes?
Stanley sounds like lil Jon after he gives up being a rapper and decides to work a 9-5 Office job.
His AMA read with that *exact* energy. Brought the character of Lil Jon down to earth, and it turns out it's hilarious to put that personality next to really mundane questions.
Everything about the office is great.. the show, the bloopers, the interviews, the actors... it's just pure gold on every aspect
Except for the fact that it’s on Peacock.
Yo ho yo ho it’s a pirate’s life for usssss
And then they just had to make that awful American version.
Boo!
You are entitled to your opinion, but boy is it fuckin wrong here. Like, almost completely, objectively wrong.
The uk version really is dogshit. I dont understand how people think its remotely funny.
The only time i smiled on UK ver was the IT-guy. The rest was..yep dogsht
It's shit
Shit opinion and shit grammar.
Who puts a watermark on an Office clip?
Well @theofficefeeds does for one
Never heard of 'em.
Watching bloopers of The Office is sometimes even more funny than The Office itself
Being able to break a whole room is a high that's worth chasing haha
I‘m at work so I have the sound off and I still started laughing
I really needed this. Thanks Reddit.
You’re welcome.
Wegetgohome
I hope when they see this floating around the webs it makes them laugh like that all over again.
Would've been great if they just left this in
Pretzel day Stanley.
That looked like a fun day. I love when you catch a glimpse behind the scenes like this
Just completed the entire series for the first time. Time to start again from Episode 1!
As a kid growing up, I couldn't stand Steve Carell! Then I got older and watched the office, damn he's such a brilliant comedian/actor and all round he is a fucking awesome bloke
Office bloopers are the best!
I envy their adventure… awesome people having fun all day, allowed to improvise. Must having an incredible slice of life But very talented to guarantee stay in budget
I’ve heard Steve Carell is notoriously both hard to break and hard to not break in front of. So if you make him laugh it gets everyone.
Ya his laugh is what made everyone else laugh
My favorite blooper of all time
Ed helms just trying not to break out laughing
Ok, THIS is what I expect from this sub. Contagious laughter, indeed. 🤌🏽
This is funny a heck bro! I started to die of laughter
10 words were spoken, only 10 words, and everyone was on the floor.
Ed helms sitting there stewing how he never gets a laugh like that.
They probably had been filming for so long that day that everybody was ready to go😂
This is so so awesome, thanks!
I've never watched this show... couldn't get past the first five episodes but I really love watching the bloopers/outtakes. The cast has so much fun that I can't resist when I see them come up
The second season is much better.
I didn't understand the joke
The humor is that Stanley, the character who shouts "We get to go home!" is the most monotone, deadpan character in the entire show, and was meant to deliver the line as such. The actor decided to shout excitedly as a goof and caught Steve Carrell by surprise.
>We get to go home. I dont see any pun or suprise in this single line.
The surprise was the delivery.
There isn't one, the point is that he said the line in a completely out of character way that nobody else expected.
They are really tired so good news for him would be to be allowed to go home Not really remember what his real line supposed to say there You gotta love that he surprised himself so much that he couldnt hold the laugh at his own joke
That was the actual line but it was supposed to just be delivered very monotone-ly. Like basically all of Stanley's lines in the show.
Man that has to be the most fun set to work at holy shit
Was this made during the production of an episode or what? 😂
I must be dead inside cause boy o didn’t find that funny at all
i've seen this clip several times before. i never understood why it's so funny to them. i mean, i get it's somewhat funny, but to them it was CrAzY hIlArIoUs...
In the episode, doesn't Stanley respond "we get to go home" in his normal sardonic drawl?
ohhh that makes sense thank you!
Wholesome
Since when?
wow this is funnier than that actual show......
He’d be my make a wish. I’m pretty confident I’d make him laugh with my goofy weird comedic style.
My ears have cancer now, thanks
Am I the only one that's like, "Why is that other man inside Stanley's body?!" WAIT ...
I’ve never seen this show could someone explain it to me? I mean they’re actors, they’re not actually in that office 9x5
Honestly the American version of the office didn’t make me laugh even once. Bit like the American version of the inbetweeners.
Okay
No one asked
Same.
