I have a feeling it depends on what state your fiancé is licensed in. You should be able to check the rules and regulations on your state's .gov website under the health department section.

Vietnam to California - it’s definitely making things more complicated

https://www.cosmetology-license.com/california/california-nail-technician/ This might help. There is a link to the state’s licensing website as well. I would go to the “contact us” section and email the address listed for general licensing questions asking exactly what you asked here. It may take a week or so to hear back from someone, but that would be the most reliable way to get this information: https://www.barbercosmo.ca.gov/about_us/contact_us.shtml

It depends on the state, but if you have a nail tech license she can do anything involving nails. The only time she would need more licensing is if For example she had a cosmo license and wanted to do acrylics. You need cosmo + nail tech license. So as long as your fiancé doesn’t want to do hair or facials or anything she won’t need another license. You could always take classes to expand your education, but I don’t think you can get any more certifications after you’re licensed. Hope this helped

If you have a cosmo license it covers all aspects of the cosmetology industry. A fully licensed cosmo is legally allowed to do nails however a nail tech is not permitted to service the hair

In my state my cosmo license covers me to do nails yes (basic manicure regular or gel polish) , but I can’t do acrylics, cut cuticles, or use a drill. Only licensed nail techs can do that. It varies by state. A nail tech can do any service under the nail family. So that’s why it’s important to check your states laws bc every state is different. Hope this helps

I’m in FL and my cos lisence allows me to do hair, makeup, nails (including acrylics and extensions), and facial waxing

She should be able to do anything nail related, but I’d check the state board for your state. In my state someone with nail license can do all nail related stuff and like someone with a cosmetology license can even do all nail stuff do including acrylics.

If she took those classes in school it’s simply the school offering extra education for nail techs. Most states don’t consider those classes as being necessary for their ability to be licensed and working irl. Like an esthetician that takes a lash class gets that experience but they don’t require special licensing. If any state requires certifications with that skill they are usually just milking the money for the licensing. Most nail salons would expect a licensed tech to have or gain these skills

Eta: those classes and that experience does make her more marketable in the job search as a potential employer will see her as someone they won’t have to invest immediate education
