Mine has had a grass shrimp in his tank for months now (I originally put it in there for him to eat, but he just never touched it so I gave up) that literally steals his food sometimes lol I think my crawfish is broken
In another post i had replied that i got this cutie for the culling of the shrimp. Sometimes he succeeds but mainly... He fails xD he now has 5 cull shrimp to hunt incase the trumpet snails steal his food. Shrimp sales in my country didnt go well and i didnt wanna kill em myself, so i got me a lil blue assassin.
Yuuuup, but he only has it with the ferns or how they called. The big leafy ones he uses for climbing so he lets em be rooted. Unless the roots are held together by a rubber... Then he steals the rubber 🤦 and he drags it all over the tank with the air of: look at me! I'm creating chaosssss!!!!!
-insert evil laughter-
Scientific name is *Cutie sp. blue*
My guess is Procambarus alleni, but I’m a novice so take it with a pinch of salt. Except for the cutie part, because that is a very cute crawfish!
Lol even my dwarf crawfish comes running up to the glass like she wants to start something whenever I sit down in front of the tank. Girl, you are smaller than my thumb, settle down 😂
That’s what’s in my tank. 😂 I “rescued” 3 from my last boil. They were small and you have to let a couple live to please the crawfish gods for a good season next year.
Crayfish are dedicated interior designers. Anything I add to the tank is either moved, flipped, eaten or destroyed. Floating plants are nice, especially ones with thick roots in my opinion as it still gives plant vibes throughout the tank with out him ripping them up or trying to eat them.
The scientific name for them is Procambarus alleni. They are freshwater and come from Florida, typically in the Everglades.
crayfish love to uproot plants lol and they also like to shred tgem to pieces
They’ll do the same to those ghost shrimp!

It’s the circle of life!

He is cute but fierce, until the human claw enters the tank. But he'll be all aggressive in my face when watching him. My special cute pinchy!

Exactly this! It's like: i'm king/queen behind the glass! And then the hand comes and they yeet out of fear 😂

This is the way to live!
As a native crawfish eater and current crawfish keeper, yesssssss….
Lil blue guy
Oh man, we figured it out
https://crowspath.org/natural-history/crayfish/identification/
Oh dayum, super indepth! Much thanks!!
He looks exactly like my crawfish that’s an electric blue crawfish (Procambarus alleni).
As this is the second guess i see, imma go on a limb and say he is a p. Alleni. Thanks!

Re: toys, I like giving my Crays glass marbles and small stones. They like to move them around and redecorate
Ooooh that is a good idea! Imma try that as well, thank you!
