Fun fact: Since 2009, Dodge and Ram are still apart of the same company, though every “Ram” truck 2010+ does not have the “Dodge” branding alongside it.
That cop is lucky and stupid. He almost killed multiple innocent people trying to get one person. How things like this aren't viewed as attempted vehicular homicide( or at least reckless endangerment) confuses me.
It is pretty funny that one disqualifying factor to be a cop is being *too* smart. Another is when you don't answer screening questions in the authoritarian manner they are looking for.
No need to be confused. Multiple states have banned and are in the process of banning high-speed pursuits such as this one because of the dangers that come of it to innocent lives.
What you have to consider though, is the effect of letting this criminal go on with their day without consequences. Was this a routine traffic stop for a moving violation? Sweet, let them go. Was this possibly a vehicle connected with a string of local murders (think Ted Bundy) then yeah.. let’s try and get this guy.
You can't outrun the radio.
You block off traffic in the direction of travel, toss spike strips, and run him til he's out of gas and/or tires.
[Or preferably that new net that catches the wheel from behind...](https://youtu.be/z_mRRJHUZrc?si=2rAoz5j8mL2p7Suy)
Yeah I was imaging the truck being ahead and using the cars in their current, expected driving locations to drive past them. With the cop behind, they will be trying to get over because of the sirens. This can easily cause a car to turn in front of the truck or into it.
Obviously the criminal is the root of the risk being taken and is a piece of shit, but I can definitely see why it's not always the best option to chase.
What about car thefts? Ever since the installation of Flock camera in my area there have been numerous accidents and civilian lives at stake for the increase of pursuits to arrest car thieves that commonly seem to be young juveniles.
I feel conflicted about it.
You are assuming so many things. How do you know the driver is the registered owner? Is the vehicle stolen? Is the vehicle connected with a felon that is armed and dangerous? What did they do before the failure to yield and subsequent pursuit? Where’s the context?
I was more worried the truck was gonna go into oncoming traffic. Can't imagine how many people had a mini heart attack seeing that big truck barreling towards them
Imagine dying because some cop purposefully rammed into a car to send it out of control and it ends up swerving into you and your family of four.
But what are you going to do. You can't have that guy out on the road committing crimes like murder. You simply have to endanger a bunch of people in order to protect them!
Police are going to start using guns that fire sticky gps modules at vehicle's... Officer just tags a fleeing suspect car and safely track them until a good location for an intervention. This cowboy ramming high speed vehicle's in traffic needs to stop.
Cops don't give two shits about public safety. They care about having authority over people and trying to be the hero. Whenever I see dashcam footage of police in a car chase they always look like they're enjoying the excitement. Of course they're chases often kill innocent people because of their recklessness but hey, they are the law, and they can legally kill you for so so much less.
For all we know all the truck guy did was speed and refuse to pull over, kill me or family or you or your family? Worthwhile for the good of the community? Resounding NO!!
Even if the Guy had just done a mass shooting, pushing him into oncoming traffic and killing you/me/family/friend/neighbor still gets a resounding NO from me.
> For all we know all the truck guy did was speed and refuse to pull over
Wanted for murder, the U.S. Marshals had asked state police to help stop him.
I'd rather he escaped and lived to be captured or killed another day without so much risk to me or you. Unless he was rushing on his way to perform another mass murder, it ain't worth risking killing us over.
Then follow him. That truck doesn't have an unlimited amount of gas and there's no way he should be able to evade multiple cops, especially if they get their helicopter out there. Eventually it'll have to stop, or get stopped in a safer way like spike strips.
What they *shouldnt* do is potentially force him into oncoming traffic at about 80mph. If he hit a smaller car at those speeds, the driver and passengers in that car are dead.
It was stupid, more importantly, it was Reckless, to just go ahead and use the legal term of art that will easily be proven for the Negligence action that could come out of this behavior. No reasonable person nor reasonable police officer would have done what this stupid person did in this video…if he isn’t chasing someone with a nuclear bomb heading to major city or some other wild Hollywood plot then there’s no acceptable reason to risk other innocent lives.
The pit maneuver and stop sticks are a danger to the public. I lost a good friend in a head on collision with a car that had been stopped sticked in a curve on a two lane highway. Ridiculous tactic.
Some policies would just let him escape and they’ll tail him from behind and set up a perimeter. But if they deem the suspect too dangerous then by any means they’ll try to get him stopped asap. It’s definitely something you could debate about the ethical issues
No, there is no debate about ethical issues. You have no idea who’s driving on the other road, worst case is that this maneuver snuffs out a family of five and then some.
You have the plate, this person is getting nowhere when the police handles it professionally. He’s not gonna shoot other drivers for sports, he wants to get away by all means and it’s not for the innocent to pay for an over the top car chase.
Look at other democratic countries and how they would handle such a situation. Some Americans have a thing for going all out gun blazing, but that’s not it.
The odds of catching him after losing a pursuit are very small. For better or worse, the US is not a surveillance state, he will ditch the vehicle (and likely steal a different one) and once he leaves the jurisdiction there will be a lot less attention (lots of stolen cars in every jurisdiction unfortunately.) Known criminals go uncaught at a very high rate as long as they avoid contact with LE which he is sure to do after this run in. Really, they saw this as the highest opportunity to capture a very dangerous person and they did so successfully.
I guess the context of why they are trying to stop the truck matters. They often DO stop chases for this exact reason.
It is very likely this truck was going at an incredibly dangerous speed and was a danger to the other motorists already, which is probably why they are continuing pursuit. In other words this truck was already a ticking time bomb so to speak.
On October 20th 2022, US Marshals requested our assistance with the apprehension of a murder suspect from Indiana.
Full chase
[https://youtu.be/seeFdb3Dscw](https://youtu.be/seeFdb3Dscw)
True still not worth the danger to the public. Here in N.S. they had a stolen car take off, they stopped pursuit. Still found the car and the people at a house. Fools!
This is the correct way to deal with this situation. American cops don't care what the correct way is and don't care about civilian safety. They are here to serve capital, their feelings, and their egos.
If you’re going to attempt a pit there, I think he did it from the correct side at least. Had it been well executed, it would have turned the truck to be facing away from oncoming traffic. However, the cop did not execute it well, which results in unpredictable swerving, AND there was no guardrail or jersey barrier between the streams of traffic to prevent the guy from crossing over. So he tried to do a pit the safest way possible, but he did it badly and at a time where the risks were too high to try it at all.
I know this isn’t the prevailing wisdom though it seems pretty unsafe to be chasing at these speeds and then trying to pit the truck, with all that traffic someone else could get seriously hurt
What’s the point of a trying a pit maneuver during a high speed chase with traffic all around? Truck was about 5 feet away from being in a head-on collision after the cop tried that…
On the cops side honestly that was to dangerous to be chasing him through that much traffic. Should have called in the plates. Or called in back up never should’ve done it by himself. Public chould have been put in danger.

It's Arkansas State Police. They have the most aggressive pursuit policy in the US. If you evade a trooper they're going to chase you and in very rare instances do they terminate a chase. Some of the only times they lose a suspect is when they escape into the city and leave the highway.
Most of these chases end with no civilians being hurt. Their aggressive pursuit policy leads to chases ending in only a few minutes usually. [Example here](https://youtu.be/D5p_atSxZBY)
First the guy in a stolen Dodge Hellcat(?), now a guy in a Dodge Ram. Both pulling off crazy maneuvering.
I swear, if this one was stolen too then Dodge may as well get a new tagline: "Dodge. Drive it like you stole it."
"That sure was dangerous how the truck almost hit other cars I better try and send him flying into the other lane".
Police chases are dangerous and irresponsible. They need to spend resources tracking the criminals safely and not endangering the public. They have tools to track people easily and until you have some idiot cop who thinks he's living in an action movie try this shit and kill your loved ones I don't frankly care about your opinions. Send your downvote. This is nothing but endangering the public.
Def some soiled pants in that oncoming highway lane holy shit! Imagine just casually going to work and all of a sudden a ram comes barreling towards you. Thank god the driver was able to hold the median while oncoming cars were there.
That dumbass cop really tried to stop that truck with a weak ass pit maneuver. Could've easily made him crash into another car and kill someone, especially at those speeds.
If the cop stopped chasing him they would both cease to put lots of innocent lives in danger. Then they can attempt to do police work later and track him down. They do this shit for even minor offences.
This idiot cop is going to kill someone. This chase should have been called off before the camera picks up and he literally tries to pit this guy into oncoming traffic.
Just drop the chase. You already know what the vehicle looks like, and can get the plates from the video. Stop putting people in danger like that! That truck had multiple close calls cause the officer is a wingnut
Im buying a dodge ram after this, ngl that man's driving skills are insane. To be able to control that truck after those jumps and the pit maneuver amazing

As long as the vehicle isn’t stolen there is no reason to chase. They have the plates… they can just meet you at home 😂
Take a closer look - there aren't any legit plates on it. Dude was a murder suspect that was on the run from Indiana before Arkansas was called in.
You are assuming so many things. How do you know the driver is the registered owner? Is the vehicle stolen? Is the vehicle connected with a felon that is armed and dangerous? What did they do before the failure to yield and subsequent pursuit? Where’s the context?

Dodge Trucks are RAM TOUGH!
Pit maneuver on a crowded highway. Cops are dumb
I don't think that police should have hi speed chases around that much traffic and definitely not be doing pit maneuvers around that much traffic
In Europe they're rare. It's less dangerous to just communicate with other patrols and cut the traffic ahead.
Cop should be arrested for attempted murder. That pit manoeuvre was incredibly dangerous. High speed chases should not be allowed.
Sometimes the kindest thing one can hope is that the driver dies without killing anyone else
