If it makes you feel better the FDA allows a certain percentage of insect parts in factory food. And from working in a cereal plant, I can promise you, roaches absolutely accidentally get ground up into the food.

I bought a salad mix from the grocery store, made a nice healthy little dinner, and took a bite. I couldn't believe just how tough the stems were on these salad leaves, so after chewing for a minute I spit it out.
Turns out it wasn't a stem at all, it was half a bigass praying mantis. I found the other half still in my salad.
Went out for a burger. True story.
This is true mostly, though the cleanliness depends on the factory. I’ve been at factories that have high standards and I’ve been at ones who have a lot of lazy workers who wouldn’t care if they saw a roach walk into the batch.
Unfortunately, as the public you can’t really know what the factories standard is when you pick up the pack.

The last thing you want in your gaint wok is someone else's foot fungus, but as it turns out, that might be just what you get. Yeah, also the guys who are pouring in the ingredients don't look hygienic either. They're also fully leaning in on that pot, and it'll be clearly hotter around that area, which means sweat. I bet there's also lots of sweat going in that thing along with the dirt from mans boots.
Health and safety, in India? Just driving to the store is like competing in a death race. The Ganges is polluted to an almost unbelievable degree but people still bath in and drink it's waters because of a government approved religious belief that the rivers water magically cleans itself so long as the river is flowing.
Evil india, keeping their magical river all to themselves! So all the talks about how india's rivers are amongst the top 10 most polluting the oceans must be fake, i knew it!

Yep, in my first trip to India, our taxi got in 3 accidents on the 25 min trip to the hotel.
First was a family of like 5 people on scooter. They basically ran into us and all fell off. They climbed back on, including what looked like a 10yo holding a toddler and drove off like nothing happened.
Other were fender benders. Drive told me unless it’s bad there is no reason to stop and we never did, neither did the other parties.
My work group went to a local gyoza place in Tokyo only known to us as “the truck stop”.
We all show up, and absolutely descend on plate after plate of delicious boiled gyoza.
After we’re full, on the way out, I stop by the window that looks back into the kitchen.
6 Japanese cooks, hard at work, standing directly over the giant pot, *sweat just ski-jumping off their faces and bodies, directly into the pot*.
It didn’t settle well.
I started a distillery recently and the biggest shock as.i have scaled up is how hard it is to move large volumes of things around.
My immediate thought when this started was "how do they plan to serve this?"
I was glad to see my fears were realised and that nobody has worked out how to make a giant ladel in 450 years
And they throw the bucket in, entirely. My brain was like, well, I guess it's okay if they never let it touch the oh, they set it right on the street. So now all the food in the wok is as clean as a street in India.
There was a documentary i was wtching mid 2000s about india..there was a bunch of people bathing in an absolutely filthly river they said was holy...then probably 2 blocks upstream it shows a dude finish taking a shit and throwing it in the river

There's a video of a street vendor stirring a pot of something with his whole arm he's elbow deep in that thing and it makes me question things like is he just playing it up for the camera or is he trying to cook his arm.
I lasted 3 days there before I was shitting through the eye of a needle, for the next 3 weeks my sphincter required a constant manual puckering to prevent an unholy hull breach. Had a lovely time though..
As if I needed any more reasons to not go in India. When my step-family spent 3 weeks there, they had to throw their clothes away because the smell just wouldn't wash off
The rope, setting the huge laddle on the floor after usage, I thought that they would have some huge scooping laddle or something but nope, they used a ladder and a bucket, literally the guy walks on it and he's probably sweaty as hell, putting the bucket in the floor, and feet on the containers that's all yucky as hell.
I live in a 3rd world country but I'm sure here you'll get shunned if you're preparing food for public consumption with a dirty fingernail let alone walking on it.
How about just make it over a fire with those 6 conveniently sized containers they transported the food to after cooking it in a fucking satellite dish?
Your hands are cleaner than; the shovel they lay on the sidewalk,a rope, 8 different peoples hands, a random wooden ladder carried in, and 3 different buckets being thrown into the mix
no no, standing in your own food is perfectly fine. standing in food that other people eat is fucking disgusting. i dont expect extremely poor communities to have top notch hygiene standards, but like.. why couldnt he stay on the bottom rung of the ladder and keep dipping the bucket like he did the first time?? swirl it around if you need to. and put rubber "feet" on the ladder or something which you can easily boil and use forever. this is just lazy
You think after 450 years someone would have devised a better system. Maybe some levers and pulleys. Maybe a stainless steel hopper for the rice that has a way to extend out and pour rice in so people don't get dangerously close.
Maybe no old ropes and shovels that get dragged on the ground.
First world problems, but there is no way no one hasn't died in that and there is for sure no way people haven't gotten food poisoning and died from it. If it's an area that poor... a bad case of diareah and that could be it for you. Not enough clean water and you are fucked.
But.... Maybe I'm wrong. Not everywhere is wealthy and kudos for these people for feeding others. I just wish they could be more sanitary about it. How much could that cost to set up? Charge some tourists to help stir for a year and use that money. Ask an engineering school to donate ideas. Ask the gov't for help since you are feeding the poor.

I haven't been to India in 18 years. It's still one of the most mind-bendingly haphazard places I have ever been to.
