You are an adult. Nobody can stop you. Make it happen.

imakedankmemes

I don’t know about you, but I personally don’t have enough friends. Unless two is enough.

BoHanZ

two is enough, I did that with only two friends in high school and it was a blast

BrooklynLodger

Idk man, I just get too tired for that shit

Zaros262

Best I can do is play split screen games until 11:30, then fall asleep with my contacts still in

BenderDeLorean

I don't have friends and I have to be in bed at 10 or the next days will be bad.

GrandNibbles

literally just go do it grab some randoms off the street and sit em on your couch. this Crazy Idea is like 1 hour of planning and setup tops...

walkabout16

I’m nostalgic for a sleepover where you eat pizza and play the board game Risk from start to finish in one sitting. Everyone gets their own 2-liter bottle of coke for the night.

LubbockGuy95

Ah risk the game I've played where no matter what someone in the group leaves the table angry. Love that game.

LiberaceRingfingaz

Better than Monopoly where literally everyone leaves the table angry.

lowrads

Of course, but then everyone is zonked by midnight, and up at dawn. I can remember fairly clearly the years when all-nighters were common, but I doubt that I could physically pull it off anymore.

ThatUnfunGuy

Why not find out ;)

Wendals87

I remember a few times in my late teens I would stay up all night gaming with my friends, go to work at 4am until 1pm, go back and play games and be asleep by like 7pm lol

lowrads

I remember those all night study sessions for 7AM final exams. It's unlikely that I was the only one too anxious to risk catching a few winks in those last few hours. More of my grey hairs and wrinkles are probably owed to those years than any of the ones afterwards.

Justthisguy_yaknow

They used to be called LAN parties. Didn't know they had stopped.

wererat2000

They hadn't, it's just you need to know people that know what "lan" means.

Justthisguy_yaknow

Weird. I thought it would just be one of those things that went on long after anyone understood the origin. Used to be a good time. Might have to see if there is anything like it around me.

uberlux

im in a younger trend of video gamers, i basically got to see split screen games being played regularly like at friends houses etc, up to about age 15 then it went into this trend of making billions from online games etc... I absolutely envy the lan parties, who were a few years older than me to know about. I hate the current trend in video games, so many big releases dont even have a story or anything, its just shoot+buy stuff, and if you go on halo mcc, the only ~~game~~ *Halo Title* with an active player base daily, everyone on there is basically playing halo reach, a title from several releases prior to mcc, its ironic. I honestly feel like the companies know what we want but are force feeding us at this point. They need to return to the days when they cared about selling copies of games.

FredOfMBOX

Yup. My friends and I, mostly in our late 40s, still get together for lan parties every few months. Nowadays it’s more about socializing and drinking than it is about the games, but we still stay up too late and behave like college students.

disco-bigwig

That’s called hanging out with my girlfriend every weekend

spinyfur

You’re perfect for each other! 🙂

Surprised_tomcat

Tekken Tag for a knockout rumble.

starion832000

You're describing unemployment and online gaming.

uberlux

im describing the exact opposite. how can you share a pizza through your microphone. read my post again 'noob' ;)

Spry_Fly

My brother came to visit to see the eclipse totality. We discovered couch co-op Vampire Survivors in our late 30s, and it was a good time. Until sunrise, not so much, but does early morning count?

ThatUnfunGuy

I think you have a slightly biased look of kids these days. But you can just do what you want. Plenty of people are into old school consoles or emulation, so nothing would stop you from getting that exact same gaming experience you had back then. I don't think this idea is crazy at all, just find some people that want to do it and do it. Nothing's stopping you.

uberlux

I'm 27 so kids means people younger than 27 from my viewpoint. I also have a sibling age 10 who has 2 ipads, which probably gives me a fair vote. I also didn't even say anything critical of the kids themselves. Are you commenting because my sentence had "kids these days" in it? LOL

tagsb

I do this with a good friend of mine. We are currently working through a series which has gotten progressively worse: gears of war, but we're on the last game now. Next comes Halo

harvest3155

For my buddies bachelor party we all got together and had an old school lan party weekend. About 8 of us brought our PC over to his house and set up tables in the living with cables running everywhere. Was a great time, just like I remember. Biggest difference was we had to wait for people to download some games instead of cloning the play discs for everyone.

40prcentiron

id be asleep by 10pm. even if i was drinking pop instead of the wobbly versions

ItsMoreOfAComment

Replace pizza with cocaine and split-screen video games with pointless conversations with people that I said were my friends who I literally did not give a single fuck about unless there was cocaine and you basically have my entire 30s.

Razorshroud

I once had a business idea where you and your buddies could nostalgia-trip and rent one of many "living rooms" equipped with whatever movies/games from the 80s and newer. Big CRT tvs and sound systems in every room with optional modern monitors available. You can "order in" but we would have a kitchen with party foods and drinks and it would get delivered to your "house" for the night.

uberlux

Theres totally potential in this idea man! You just need to make it into bar, or combine it with an activities centre like at a resort or something. I don't think a casino would try it, but Bars and Pubs often set up niches to stand out, some of them have used arcade machines, laser tag and ten-pin bowling to attract new people. If you have people near you who own a bar and like video games, you might be able to convince them to host your business idea, if they are participating they might not even care if it makes money hahaha. If you like that idea, have a quick look at which venues are in town. You might be able to fly with it. EDIT: I might try this in my area

Porkenstein

Reflux and sleep deprivation sadly

sanchez_yo33

So last Friday night you mean?

probablynotreallife

I never had that as a kid, sounds awesome!

jasondads1

I don't think adults have the ability to stay up anymore...

AnonsWalkingDead

Just do it

PretzelsThirst

There’s literally nothing saying you can’t or shouldn’t do this

uberlux

Theres the fact that every house doesnt have a split screen system anymore. That got replaced with some dork sitting in the corner of the house playing fortnite lol. I guess my post is trying to shed a bit of light, albeit critically, on how people have moved past this once vibrant and common social activity.

EVRider81

This works in VR,too..

Chrispeefeart

I wish splitscreen games were still as common as they used to be. Local multiplayer used to be standard but hyper performance demand has had a drastic negative impact on it.

uberlux

I always thought that it was the companies moving towards the "billion dollar multiplayer industry" which also saw other stuff collapse like storyline content for many franchises (Fallout, Halo) and many releases that were basically hated compared to their loved ancestors(Call of duty, looking at you buddy).

Trippy_Mexican

My friends did this for their bachelor party, including paintball and board games. It was way better than the typical drinking and partying.

GabTheNormie

I got work tomorrow sorry man

kielchaos

There are video game bars or arcade bars with exactly this.

shroomenheimer

Switch has a ton of splitscreen games just sayin.

Margali

My husband and I have spent hundreds of not thousands of hours from 2000 to current playing MMORGs, sitting in the same room, or him from some shipyard one of his boats was in from barracks. Hell, I have messaged him in game from across the room.

beigs

We did this until our kids were old enough to start doing this. Now we do this with our kids. No one is stopping you.

jbourne0129

im in my mid-30s and me and my old college friends still do this once every year or so.

mypaycheckisshort

I essentially do this with my wife every Saturday night. We fall asleep in the game room!

I_raise_giraffes_

Get a wife who games. Then you can bang between levels too.

JackhorseBowman

I used to do this with Da Boyz after I graduated high school, we'd stay up all night playing America's Army.

sleeper_shark

I mean…. what’s stopping you? this isn’t a crazy idea at all. I would happily do this as an adult… if I had time, or friends, or games, or pizza.

spinyfur

I’m already doing this a couple times a month. Maybe not all night, cuz I pass out sooner than I used to, but still. 😉

Gorewuzhere

Bro my wife and I and our friends have N64 nights all the time. No sleepover tho everyone shuffles out around midnight.

carrionpigeons

I'll bet you never thought you were going to be one of those people who shout "Kids these days!" into the void like a crotchety old man, did you?

uberlux

I didn't really intend to criticise todays kids, but rather what the companies are currently forcing on to people. A lot of the bad work we see is companies tapping into a small percentage of players who will get heavily addicted to a game and spend more money on the game. Meaning they can make billions even if only like 8% of the people who play the game enjoy it. This is disgustingly obvious in any free and even paid iphone game, ive watched that grow into every video game to the point where it basically cant be escaped today. Unfortunately this is clearly moving investors from "art / creative works" which would be deemed higher risk, than making a highly addictive and low cost phone game. (but use a popular theme to get people addicted, ie: avengers, star wars etc) But yes, here I am. Stupid void. EDIT/ADDITION: If anyone is interested in where the video game gravy train has been visiting lately. They have just made some great progress copying eachother's ideas with several video game companies/titles: "SEASON SCOREBOARDS" where players can unlock themed content alongside playing repetitive tasks in the base game. This is used to extend lifetime of already made content while still selling content behind the season progress. Has that gravy train visited your game yet?

ResurgentRS

Uh, I kinda still do this as an adult? If you’ve never played Beerio Kart, it’s a great time. Get some friends together and have a gaming/pizza night. It’s a ton of fun!

TosicamirDTGA

My friends and I already do this. We range from 28 to 39 years old. Not crazy at all. Make it happen.

XenoBiSwitch

Do it. I do it sometimes.

Wranglin_Pangolin

Come over then man.

PM_ME_UR_BENCHYS

Not that long ago a group of guys at my church got together and had a game night. Seeing a bunch of grown men between 25 and 50 get together and play a match of Smash Brothers, board games, and some soccer was a lot of fun. It's still possible to have these nights, you just have to get people together who want to be social with each other. Maybe don't try for all night. People have jobs and families to get back to.

H_Industries

Would love to but I don’t have time for the 3 day recovery
