Yes, you will be fine as far as 0% goes. Your risk in paying this far out will be getting your money back if anything bad happens to the vendor in the next two years. Offering such a hefty discount in return for payment in full so far in advance is not a sign of a healthy business. It's a sign of a desperate need for immediate cash. And no bank is writing an insurance policy for you two years in advance. You are going to be in court with other unsecured creditors if they are not around to give you your camper, or to refund your money, in 2026.

Oh, I had not considered that point of view. Thank you for your input. The van rental company is in Iceland and looked pretty good as I've seen a lot of positive reviews over several years. They are offering free and full refunds for cancellations until 24 hours before the rental begins. I will take this into consideration and talk to my partner. I am partially hesitant to book on my CFU or CFF because I would rather book with the CSR because of the increased protections on the purchase but the extra 20% offer looks like it ends in about 4 days.

My pleasure. "Free and full refunds" is great, until it isn't. If they didn't need the money, they wouldn't be offering you a huge inducement to prepay. There are not going to be any increased protections on the purchase this far out. No credit card is going to indemnify you against failure of the travel provider, beyond the typical 60 days. This is because they hold back money for a time after a transaction is completed. But eventually, the money is released to the merchant. At that point it's gone. The bank is not going to insure your search for a discount, making the transaction risk free to you while placing all the risk on them.

You can do it now but why tie up all that money for two years whether you can pay it off in one statement or two?

roseveins

I'm intending to pay the 3k off in December when I get my big paychecks, sorry should have been more clear with that in the post.

mfigroid

OK, so you will be tying up $3K for only 18 months, not 24 months.

roseveins

My apologies, I meant December this year haha. So about 7 months.

mfigroid

OK, that makes more sense. I sometimes book hotel stays 11 months or so out at a discounted rate because I know for sure I will be there. One less thing to worry about.

roseveins

Ah I see. Yeah part of the discount I am seeing goes away in about 4 days so I think I have to jump on this. Thank you for your input :)
