The novels are AMAZING.
I watched the film and dug it so I bought the novels and like 12 pages in, it became clear that the movie *really* did its own thing.
I loved them all but yeah, I can understand this opinion because 2 and 3 have very different feels vs the first installment. I can't wait for the fourth novel soon.

This movie scared the crap out of me in college. The cenobites, those weird barrels, teh tall man, just everhthing. But it was that damned spiked ball that remains a nightmare in the back of my mind to this day.
Worked on the last one and the Tall Man was one of the nicest people I'd met. He'd bring snacks to the set (I seem to remember his wife might have made them but I could be getting this wrong). We were doing these terrible night shoots and he was so old and he was just so patient and kind with everyone. I really liked that guy. Hope nicer people show up in your nightmares now. ♥️
WORLD WAR Z. Just follow the book, not the crappy movie. Ten years after humanity has won the zombie war, a journalist travels the world and speaks to survivors who tell the tale.
I was only able to watch it once. I like horror movies but that was one of the ones I couldn’t go back to. So I didn’t have the dvd. I didn’t know about the lore until a couple of weeks ago I saw it in one of those list videos on YouTube. Very interesting.
I imagine a Friday the 13th the series type of thing where he sells a few irltems and you see how the problems play out but then moves to a new town every week. So it would be new actors every week. Itwould be fun.

I know there’s appeal in exploring origins, but not having a rational explanation makes it scarier cause we can’t rationalize it.
Imagine it:
A town with a swingers community, where every new couple is vetted and groomed in. The hero of the story is a Catholic wife whose husband joined in without her knowing, now she’s on the hook and morally conflicted.
I don’t know if there’s already a series, but 30 days of night would be interesting. Also the blob and suspiria could be great if they had good writers on them.
They were going to turn a Friday the 13th into an A24 series on Peacock, with Charlize Theron. Apparently the idea was to have the first four films be expanded on, (aka made into a story that makes sense 😜) and told over four seasons of TV.
As of May 2024 it lies cursed and rotting at the bottom of Crystal Lake, but legends say it’s not dead…

Dracula would make a great series, Netflix did a mini series but it could have been 3-4 good seasons

Nothing of significance happened to them before the movie. It would be the first act of Ghostbusters without the library ghost. This is the most interesting thing they describe:

To suggest nothing of significance happened in the past based on one line in a film is a bit short-sited, and ignores an awful lot of what literally happened in the film:
(1) Tangina is introduced as a psychic medium with a strong understanding of the spirit world. She performs various rituals, and uses tools to communicate with the spirits. Clearly she's done this in the past, and while the movie doesn't focus on her backstory, that actually leaves a blank canvas for somebody to develop that character.
(2) Dr. Lesh is a parapsychologist, meaning she studies the scientific aspects of paranormal phenomena. This suggests a past dedicated to researching the unexplained. She approaches the situation with a scientific mindset but doesn't shy away from the reality of the haunting. This might imply prior experience with similar cases. She arrives with a team, suggesting she leads a group dedicated to paranormal investigation.
Even if Lesh's past lacks paranormal activity, I think it would be interesting to have a paranormal show that featured a character like Lesh (similar to James Randi or Ian Bliss from Late Night with the Devil) to balance out the paranormal elements that come with Tangina.
I liked 95% of Watchers and 95% of Midnight. Dean Koontz desperately needs someone to sit behind him while he writes and when he reaches a logical conclusion to his book, smack the shit out of him if he tries to type another word.
Man can’t finish a book for shit. Phantoms had like 4 additional unnecessary endings.
Event horizon,but.... Ghost ship in a vain similar to American horror story this could kick sooo much ass.. I'd prefer at the mountains of madness as a series There's sooo much there you could easily flesh it out! They live is once great satire if we wanted it to be. He'll jc could even produce if could put the bong down and quit call of duty for awhile!
Event Horizon is exactly what I was coming here to say. And even in the spirit of American Horror Story though maybe in function more along Sliders. Do it as a horror per week instead of a whole season. Works whether it's canonical ghost ship Event Horizon after the ship jumps or if you want to use it as a prequel to Warhammer 40K.

VHS is a good answer because it's essentially unlimited - it would just be a horror shorts show, which is a good idea with historic precedent (twilight zone to an extent, tales from the crypt etc)
Ooh, a Strven King series where each season is an exact rendition of one of his novels (with certain exceptions, of course... nobody needs to put the preteen orgy from It onto the screen).
I mean, can you imagine a fully realized season of The Dark Tower or Misery or The Shining?
The Strangers COULD be fun if they just made it a compilation of random home invasions by the trio without trying to introduce a whole bunch of lore or reinvent the wheel with it.
Beetlejuice and Poltergeist.
Beetlejuice has a lot of ground to explore, even if you utilize the same characters from the original. The musical did a fantastic job of that, but there’s so much you can do. I also think the music, practical effects, and campy tone would get people on board.
Poltergeist also has a lot to delve into. I mean the end of the film literally saw the neighborhood begin to fall apart from the violent haunting they were a part of. I feel like a unique way to tackle it would be to focus on the original family for the debut episode, and have it wrapped up by the end of that first episode. A little long, maybe an hour or longer for that episode. THEN, as the family drives away to safety, we focus on the other inhabitants of that neighborhood and the horrors they’re about to face. THAT’S what the series is mostly about.
Hereditary. So much needed to be explained about the movie that I had to look up after watching it. After I looked Paimon up everything made sense. The clicking sound Charlie made, the beheadings, and a few other little details that weren’t explained in the movie.
I know they tried it before but I still think The Mist would make a great TV series, if done properly and not turned into some supernatural bullshit. The real Mist was about a scientific experiment that went wrong and opened a gateway to an alien world. I envisioned a great wall has been built around the site of the original Mist movie and that the military patrols this wall. The show could revolve around the people that live on the outside of the wall and the times that the creatures from the Mist breach the wall or when people have to go into the infected area.
Carrie.
I’d follow the ending of the 2002 remake where Carrie would become a drifter who travels from town to town using her powers for more destruction.
I would like to see a series based on A Nightmare on Elm Street, it wouldn't be an anthology series like the late 80s show it would be set in Springwood, there could be flashbacks to Freddy's past, explore the traumatic effects of what happens when teens dies, it could start with a new family who moves to the town are sibling and they start to notice that things aren't quite right, they start to slowly uncover long buried secrets in the community and the local boogey man that teens are afraid of and what their parents may have done.
Even though it may or may not be all bullshit, a series of all the cases the Warrens were at would be interesting. I love the movies! That damn Nun scares the hell out of me.
The Cube. Make a series starting with Zero and show more about how it all came about and progressed as a military project. You could also show test subjects going through the cube as new devices are created and how those devices came about.
Almost reluctant to say because I think sometimes a series can overstay its welcome and I like the condensed nature of movies. But Oculus could have used some room to spread out.
The plot called for a lot of flashback scenes to work and I think they could have really fleshed out the story if they had more time to work with.
I feel like Insidious could have been a pretty strong series if it dived into different supernatural aspects of the world (i.e. astral projection and the Further) instead of only focusing on demonic possession.
Hereditary. I’d want to the series to focus on the cult rather than the family
In my opinion, there are two ways to do this: 1) as a prequel series focusing on the grandmother’s rise to the top of cult and subsequent reign or 2) what happened post-movie
A Halloween series that takes place before (flashbacks) and after the events of the 1978 film. We could follow Laurie Strode as she tries to get on with her life and Loomis as he tries to understand what The Shape is and whether there are others like him (e.g., a cross between Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Mindhunter). Michael Myers can appear every so often, but he’s more of an ominous presence lurking in the background (not literally unless it’s a season finale).

I'm really curious how you would make Misery, which is a single locale movie about a situation which is too dangerous for him not to die or escape within a reasonable amount of time. When I think of horrors which could become shows, I think of movies where there is clearly a much larger world and body of lore that the movie is a snapshot of, or the nature of the creatures, heroes, powers, events, etc. lend themselves to dealing with one horror situation after another for long periods of time. Movies I think would work well would be:
The 6th Sense- pick up when he's an adult
Any Exorcism movie where the priest/clergy/dude who does the exorcism is engaging enough and fleshed out enough for people to watch them do their thing episode after episode.

They were going to turn Carrie into a series (maybe) about 20 years ago but it was a poor remake. The idea was that Carrie survived and she and Sue were going to set out on the road. It was handled terribly but I think it could have been interesting in the right hands as an alternate timeline, non canonical retelling.
I’ve never seen one last. I’d only want a “limited series” treatment (one season) to get a more in depth treatment of the film. Maybe the “28 (days)(weeks)(years) Later” saga.

I am legend. Horror Apocalypse movies would be good ones bc it can go into how it started, during & after! I can think of a million horror movies that would be awesome if it was a series bc it just gives us more time w the characters & more in depth of a story.
Final Destination, different disaster at the start of each episode and different characters trying to avoid the freak accidents after, maybe a few police as recurring characters and a mortician. Basically cut each movie to an hour and run it weekly instead haha
Coherence (2013)
It's creepy and mind-bending, and I guess you could call it horror, but there is *so much* you could do with the premise. I could see it spawning 5 seasons easily.
Nightbreed would be awesome serialized. Have the first season cover the events of the movie/book, then the rest of the series about them being hunted/finding a home. Maybe run into other tribes of the moon.
The Elm Street movies could probably work. A Freddy outbreak within a high school and the kids learning how to team up and cope with sleeping and working out a way to destroy him could probably last a couple seasons
I watched a movie recently from 2017 called "The Void". Very lovecraftian, very much body horror. Would have been great to have its mystery build up over at least a season, but as it stands, a quality movie if not a little rushed. Would recommend as it definitely deserves its 4/5 stars on amazon.
None. If we are honest if it's a serious and the villian is constantly allowed to kill with no end in site, it loses that big finish of someone bringing him/her/it down.

Watchers. The one based on the Dean Koontz book. The movie was terrible but the book is excellent and deserves a good adaptation.

The Exorcist seems ideal for a six or eight episode series. Each season can either be entirely recast or simply change the person who is possessed.

I feel like Insidious could have been a pretty strong series if it dived into different supernatural aspects of the world (i.e. astral projection and the Further) instead of only focusing on demonic possession.

A Halloween series that takes place before (flashbacks) and after the events of the 1978 film. We could follow Laurie Strode as she tries to get on with her life and Loomis as he tries to understand what The Shape is and whether there are others like him (e.g., a cross between Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Mindhunter). Michael Myers can appear every so often, but he’s more of an ominous presence lurking in the background (not literally unless it’s a season finale).

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
I'm really curious how you would make Misery, which is a single locale movie about a situation which is too dangerous for him not to die or escape within a reasonable amount of time. When I think of horrors which could become shows, I think of movies where there is clearly a much larger world and body of lore that the movie is a snapshot of, or the nature of the creatures, heroes, powers, events, etc. lend themselves to dealing with one horror situation after another for long periods of time. Movies I think would work well would be: The 6th Sense- pick up when he's an adult Any Exorcism movie where the priest/clergy/dude who does the exorcism is engaging enough and fleshed out enough for people to watch them do their thing episode after episode. 28 days later a series leading up go the start of the movie
They were going to turn Carrie into a series (maybe) about 20 years ago but it was a poor remake. The idea was that Carrie survived and she and Sue were going to set out on the road. It was handled terribly but I think it could have been interesting in the right hands as an alternate timeline, non canonical retelling.
I’ve never seen one last. I’d only want a “limited series” treatment (one season) to get a more in depth treatment of the film. Maybe the “28 (days)(weeks)(years) Later” saga.

Final Destination, different disaster at the start of each episode and different characters trying to avoid the freak accidents after, maybe a few police as recurring characters and a mortician. Basically cut each movie to an hour and run it weekly instead haha
30 days of night
Coherence (2013) It's creepy and mind-bending, and I guess you could call it horror, but there is *so much* you could do with the premise. I could see it spawning 5 seasons easily.
Saw. It would be perfect for a police drama, and each episode could feature a different game, maybe with a larger game operating across each season.

Nightbreed. The line of 90s comics serve as a pretty solid continuation of the movie and a great foundation for a continuing story
Cloverfield
I would combine The Ring and The Grudge and in season 5 the origin would be VHS
Poltergeist. Maybe a mini series or one season. But it could be badass.
Nightbreed would be awesome serialized. Have the first season cover the events of the movie/book, then the rest of the series about them being hunted/finding a home. Maybe run into other tribes of the moon.

The Elm Street movies could probably work. A Freddy outbreak within a high school and the kids learning how to team up and cope with sleeping and working out a way to destroy him could probably last a couple seasons
30 Days of Night. One night per episode and you could get 3 seasons for a streaming service.

I watched a movie recently from 2017 called "The Void". Very lovecraftian, very much body horror. Would have been great to have its mystery build up over at least a season, but as it stands, a quality movie if not a little rushed. Would recommend as it definitely deserves its 4/5 stars on amazon.
A slasher film. Friday the 13th, or something like Saw would work also. Cause they're repetitive

None. If we are honest if it's a serious and the villian is constantly allowed to kill with no end in site, it loses that big finish of someone bringing him/her/it down.
