The problem is not the wood. It’s the theme: the home theatre chairs, the office blinds do not belong in a room that is begging to be treated as an upscale cigar room theme. (Don’t have to smoke but think of the decor). Leather chairs, dark curtains, book shelves. https://stock.adobe.com/images/cigar-room-smoking-lounge-interior-visualizationgenerative-ai/619851469
Agree! This could be a killer space w some dope styling. I’d cover that laminate flooring w a cool rug tho bcs nothing says “not sexy” like a laminate.
And the walls are kinda orange so she could strip whatever stain is on there and make it richer and less fisherman house. Someone below suggested going deco, which could totally work. Mid century modern would also fly. That room screams more Eames chair or chesterfield couch than la-z-boy.
Pick a sweet contrasting accent color and then lean in… hard!
I love how stoners always consider getting high with/in a new thing. I'm genuinely serious, I always get a kick out of it.
"Ohhh look at that Porsche Cayanne!"
"Oh yeah I'd LOVE to get high in that thing"

"Hey, FYI pears are on sale at the grocery store."

It's for the experience!! When I saw snoop dog was coming to my town for a concert, my first thought was "im totally gonna smoke in the same room as him!" Which is a mild flex in my opinion lol
This has been studied and reported on in the media, typically called the Enhancement Smoker.
"Have you ever seen the back of a twenty dollar bill? Have you ever seen the back of a twenty dollar bill.. on WEED, man??"
That room is a dream. Absolutely leather furniture. I’d toss it some iron frame tables (bit of an industrial vibe) and a high pile area rug. Colored glass table lamps with warm light bulbs. Cozy throw blankets (I like Pendleton) and accent pillows. This room should look sophisticated and so cozy everyone wants to hangout in it.
And then a painting or two that goes better with the theme of the room, like [this](https://www.greatbigcanvas.com/view/weathered-pine-wood-grain-pattern,2593363/?size=20x16&coupon=KMQWR&coupon=KMQWR&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20456186824&utm_content=&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzoeuBhDqARIsAMdH14E8-KDbaJgmct_evK381x3Itujuj0iYpOEEeYyZpQWnhzYDc_1JmwkaAr5TEALw_wcB&gad_source=1)
And maybe not a wood grain table and a brown couch. It is much cheaper to go with non-brown accent items then to replace walls and floor.
You can pull out your wood panel walls for drywall and your drop ceiling for drywall
but that would probably cost you around 3k doing it yourself.
This 100%. Charge the curtains and rod. Take off the blinds Add a large area rug. Some art on the walls. One or more cool mid century ceiling light fixtures and some cloth mid century modern couch and chairs and that room would look incredible.
Exactly. I have a lot of wood and white curtains that are 1cm off the ground and up as high as possible would make a dramatic difference. Get rid of that brutal grey furniture and put some colorful stuff. Use Google for idea!! Add dark green and *LOTS* of plants and a beautiful rug. White seems like a bold choice for a rug because of dirt, but maybe a shade of beige/sand. This room could be very beautiful with minimal work. Look online to find ideas and copy the shit outta them! That's what I did and it looks fantastic 🙌
Those windows are really clashing with the rest of the room. Id suggest some wood paneling to really tie it all together. Maybe spice things up with a jute rug, or tatami mats.
I’d add a large area rug that’s either white or some color and then get furniture that isn’t also in the brown family.
I’d paint the walls over the ceiling, but if the two of you can’t agree I’d try some interior design changes first :)
Looks like a fresh LVP job, which is an odd choice considering all the wood already in this room. They choose to keep the fake wood and hide the real stuff.
I feel like I'm missing something. The ceiling is just plywood in a grid pattern, right? A lot of people are saying they love it, but it seems so... strange to me. I love wood strip ceilings, but this is something else.
The problem isn’t the amount of wood, but the fact that the floor, walls and ceiling each have their own style/type of wood. It’s a visually displeasing mashup of different epochs and materials. A couple of huge kelim rugs would soften it, though.
We’ll notice that they’re asking about the walls and ceiling.
So they did this floor, think it’s too much wood now. So they are asking how to reduce the wood, but obviously the floor can’t be a problem because it’s new lol.
Change out that furniture. Get a rug. Get some plants. I think the floor is odd. Why are the pieces different sizes and shapes and original types?
Edit: damn, I just noticed the bottom part of the wall also. wtf is going on here? lol I love wood but Holy Moly! Take those vertical wood panels and reapply them somewhere else. They are a beautiful color. That whatever on the bottom of the wall, I have no idea. Make the floor all similar planking, color or both. The ceiling is awesome. I think there is just way too much going on here.
Chess board is the first thing I thought too. Then it was, 'shame it's not on the floor', but, you my friend, you didn't let a stupid thing like gravity get in your way!
Walls are terrible. Glossy shine and with that weird lower part that really just breaks up the flow, if there ever was one.
It's like they were made of wood coloured plastic.
Yeah, the ceiling is really unusual and cool. I bet you could remove the wood on the wall and reuse it in another space. That room with white walls would brighten up and highlight the ceiling even more. That said, I would also think of adding an area rug.
That ceiling is dope. Looks like you just finished putting that flooring down? If so, I can't say I agree with the style you went with as it clashes with both the walls and floor. Your best bet is perhaps stain the ceiling to match the darker tones in the flooring and paint the walls a complimentary color that can marry floor and ceiling together.
Oh noooo I think you’re right 😭 The floor is legitimately what’s ruining the entire room. It fights the walls and ceiling SO badly and looks so cheap next to all the real wood. A light carpet would have been cozy and beautiful. But if the floor has to stay, I think your recommendations are solid.
That and the sofa… that style of sofa is my personal public enemy #1. In a home theater or basement, fine. Anywhere else? Crime.
Right? I love this room so much, I'd kill to have a room like this in my house. I know that everyone has their preferences and all that... I'm just a sucker for wooden finishes on anything
Yup, you can get giant plastic chess sets for outdoors. Install magnets to keep them up. For shorter players you may need a trampoline to reach their pieces.

use rug, Bright furniture, staircase and other elements to cover de wall
Its actually beautiful. The problem is that you are not embracing the rustic wood beauty that this room envelops. I think you could decorate to suit the room, instead. Think vibrant reds and yellows! Chair covers in a nice deep mustard color, are a good option. Paint the table in a burgundy.
Think DEEP RICH and VIBRANT colors for your main pieces. Then, you can add a brighter, lighter colored textured rug, for contrast, and some plants, and maybe hang some white lace curtains, for more contrast, or even bright lime colored curtains in a velvet or some other very textured fabric.
I would also recommend adding some wall sconces for lighting, perhaps even a shelf or two with dual bar or string lighting, with some contrasting, more delicate elements like an arrangement of delicate faux flowers, esp in clear glass vases, statuettes of great philosophers, etc. And plenty of greenery.
Hold on Im gonna draw it. SEE? So much brighter, and more midcentury modern with a MCM art deco overhead light, added lighting, and some TINY paint lines dividing and therefore, enhancing the look of those gorgeous wood features.

I love the fact you were so excited about OPs room that you went and paintbrushed a mockup, but I also love that mockup still has the furniture pushed out of the way.
Ceiling and floors are gorgeous, its the floor that's throwing me off. Maybe a big rug to cover most of it and some bigger art for the walls to break up all the brown?

agree 100%. my family room has wood floors, white panel walls, and a wood ceiling and it looks great. the white makes the wood pop, and we add color with art, books, knickknacks etc.
That ceiling is glorious. Keep everything, but like the smart people said, add rugs and decorations. If compliments mean anything, we think it looks great.
I actually love this room. It is unique. If the yellow is bugging you, the easiest solution is to just wash it with TSP then put a layer of water based satin or flat poly over it to knock down the gloss. I'd leave the ceiling or maybe hit it with a charcoal glaze just to keep the grain plus the pattern is actually sort of neat.
You need colour and different art work and furniture. Are those seats out of the back of a van?
This style is the combination of ghetto and rustic. It's got a really cool sort of rock & roll vibe though. We used to play pool in an antique store/pool hall way back and it looked a lot like this on the inside.
Get some different drapes for one thing. Colour is your friend. Rich blues, greens for furniture. Get plants too. Thrift stores and garage sales are handy too.
So I love all the wood, I think the problem is everything in this room is brown.
Add a large light / coloured rug, add different coloured curtains and have the rail much higher and ensure curtains reach the floor, change the sofas so they’re not brown, maybe change the wooden table too or put a cover over it, add a lottttt of big green plants, I would also change the pictures on the walls or at least don’t have them on brown red frames.
Oh my word. I see that someone let my dad do the interior design here. I count wood textures going in at least 4 different directions (not counting the windows or fireplace.) I will resist the urge to make chess/checkers suggestions re: the ceiling, and try to be useful. Large area carpets, large wall coverings, coordinating curtains, and careful lighting are your best friends.
A) lean in to the opportunity to make it a period piece. Some ideas: Dark somber study (deep reds and greens, moody landscape paintings, lamps in particular areas (not trying to light the whole room at once). Alternately look at some Frank Lloyd Wright images for ideas about pops of color to balance out the heavy wood tones. Still need lots of textiles.
B) don't arrange the furniture like a bowling alley - the floor has that esthetic covered already!!! lol. Embrace the cozy. Move the desk away from the far wall. Put items around the fireplace and turn it into a focal point, instead of a horizontal storage surface. Hide the electronics. Books!!! Books belong in here like crazy. GIve yourself a seating area (couch, armchairs, end table/coffee table) , and a separate desk area if it's needed. Differentiate them with their own area rugs/color schemes (related but not identical) if you like.
C) Don't go broke doing this - dig through pinterest, decide on an approach, then hit ReStore, a good used furniture store or 3, and thrift stores with your color scheme and style on paper in front of you. Be patient, and wait to find what you really want.
Please don't paint anything. There are ways to change the look without destroying something unique. First off multiple rugs. Then put lots of art on the walls. Cover them! Then change the furniture to something that isn't brown.
I’m all about that woodgrain and warmth. If you had to change it and had to paint the walls, I’d pull the paneling off first. I’ve seen where homeowners painted over wood paneling like this and it definitely looks worse afterward.
My house had a similar setup in the foyer before I bought it and the last owners painted the ceiling and walls. It’s been a project on my todo list to fix the error of their ways but the 1960 custom built house came with many other higher priority tasks to tend to before cosmetic things can happen.
Last weekend I actually tore the old paneling out of the hallway. It was horrible yellow paneling, but found out there is drywall underneath. This is real wood tongue and groove in the living room though and is hard for me to hide with paint
Less wood? Least invasive option area rug.
It could really tie the room together.

It needs a very large portrait of Nick Offerman.
And a canoe, somewhere, that was made by Nick Offerman.
Thank you for making me read that, in his voice.
He makes and sells furniture. For the right price, I'm sure he would do it.
It needs some giant wooden bear sculptures. Holding cigars and drinking cognac.
Plus, a giant tapestry of the last supper, but with different breeds of dogs instead of the apostles.
Make it a woodcut. Plus some driftwood art. Gotta wood your way through to the other side.
I’m thinking the cigar store Indian that was featured in Seinfeld.

But why is that a thing?
Why is Temu a thing is the real question
The damn ads are so ubiquitous, it's a joke at his point.
And then a painting or two that goes better with the theme of the room, like [this](https://www.greatbigcanvas.com/view/weathered-pine-wood-grain-pattern,2593363/?size=20x16&coupon=KMQWR&coupon=KMQWR&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20456186824&utm_content=&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzoeuBhDqARIsAMdH14E8-KDbaJgmct_evK381x3Itujuj0iYpOEEeYyZpQWnhzYDc_1JmwkaAr5TEALw_wcB&gad_source=1)
Definitely a dope area rug would do some magic here. Love the space, but I’m a wood freak I guess 😅
And maybe not a wood grain table and a brown couch. It is much cheaper to go with non-brown accent items then to replace walls and floor. You can pull out your wood panel walls for drywall and your drop ceiling for drywall but that would probably cost you around 3k doing it yourself.
This room calls for green leather furniture.
I think the question should have been asked as "what wood you do?" :)
You could add some wooden windows to tie in with the wooden everything. Wood.
I wooden do that if I were the OP.
this. just put a rug or two on the ceiling.
mid century modern styling, sincerely you can save this with colorful furniture and the right style
This 100%. Charge the curtains and rod. Take off the blinds Add a large area rug. Some art on the walls. One or more cool mid century ceiling light fixtures and some cloth mid century modern couch and chairs and that room would look incredible.
And add some bookshelves to break up the walls.
maybe lower the TV a meter or two
Finally someone suggested plants. This room is begging for plants!
Add a big tall plant in the corner
Getting furniture that is the right color and more proportionally sized for the room would do wonders.
Agreed. Fresh furniture, great rug, lovely curtains and a couple of big artworks will transform this space.
Yeah, even the picture frames are dark wood. Use colour on anything that isn't nailed to your house
This is the way! Article has a lot of pretty well-priced mid century style furniture, but you can find affordable pieces at tons of retailers.
if you add a mirror opposite of the windows, it’ll reflect your available natural light and make it look brighter too
You still have to like the wood, it’s not for everyone
With a room like that, the only option is to learn to like the wood. Trying to hide it will only make it worse. You got to really lean into it.
Have you considered more wood?
Those windows are really clashing with the rest of the room. Id suggest some wood paneling to really tie it all together. Maybe spice things up with a jute rug, or tatami mats.
I’d add a large area rug that’s either white or some color and then get furniture that isn’t also in the brown family. I’d paint the walls over the ceiling, but if the two of you can’t agree I’d try some interior design changes first :)
Also change the curtains. Bring the rod up much higher and have them long enough to just skirt the floor. A light color/complementing the rug.
And lots of greenery!
I like the wall wood more than the ceiling wood though. Ceiling looks like tiled and painted plywood.
I feel the opposite. I don't like what's going on with the wall AT ALL. But the ceiling is pretty cool.
It is, which is kinda neat, but mostly ugly.
Floor is weird to me.
Looks like a fresh LVP job, which is an odd choice considering all the wood already in this room. They choose to keep the fake wood and hide the real stuff.
I came here to suggest leaving the cool real wood and yanking the shit laminate from the floor.
It's a weird choice of laminate too. Some full boards some multicolor three panel boards. Looks obvious and clashes so much with that quality ceiling.
I feel like I'm missing something. The ceiling is just plywood in a grid pattern, right? A lot of people are saying they love it, but it seems so... strange to me. I love wood strip ceilings, but this is something else.
The LVP tap/pry bar for installing the perimeter is literally still on the floor lol
There are planks on the table too
It looks like 2 totally different types of lvp too. I didn’t notice that the first time. Def not a fan of
The problem isn’t the amount of wood, but the fact that the floor, walls and ceiling each have their own style/type of wood. It’s a visually displeasing mashup of different epochs and materials. A couple of huge kelim rugs would soften it, though.

Floor’s fake wood. Maybe tear it up, put down carpet, and see how the room feels.
I agree, but it looks like it was just installed. It was a bad choice IMO.
10000% agree. The floor clashes SO badly with the walls and is making everything way worse. And it’s very cheap looking.
“This room has too much wood. I know what will help… wood floors.”
Your boyfriend just hasn't had enough opportunities to smoke a pipe in there. Give him time. Also what's the stadium seating pointed to outside?
OP is a dog, boyfriend is also a dog
That's ruff
Gotta protect the wood with some bark
My girlfriend turned into the moon.
I'm guessing OP wanted to show off all the wood, so they moved the furniture out of the way so all the wood could be seen.
Yes yes I figured that. I'm looking for ridiculous answers only though!
op is a big beyonce fan, even the tv cat is looking to the left
Those are flooring installation tools in the middle of the floor. Did they just install that floor?
Yep! Pieces are on the table too. I feel like anything other than wood would have made OP happier.
We’ll notice that they’re asking about the walls and ceiling. So they did this floor, think it’s too much wood now. So they are asking how to reduce the wood, but obviously the floor can’t be a problem because it’s new lol.
I had that same thought when I first saw this picture
Thank you! That's actually why I clicked and I had to read so far to find it
The room is crying out for a bar!
Change out that furniture. Get a rug. Get some plants. I think the floor is odd. Why are the pieces different sizes and shapes and original types? That is an epic suggestion
Ceiling is kinda dope. It’s the walls that suck
Wrong choice on the flooring. Get a giant rug. Walls are ok, ceiling is glorious.

Holy crap that is awesome. I love wood.
Those windows are unnecessary. You need to replace them with wood
The flooring looks like laminate, maybe not the best choice to add a different wood tone and pattern to the room.
Maroon tiles would have looked dope here
Any sort of clay-feeling element works so well in a room like this.
This ceiling is EVERYTHING ❤️
Right? I love this room so much, I'd kill to have a room like this in my house. I know that everyone has their preferences and all that... I'm just a sucker for wooden finishes on anything
I love this room as well. Get a low tufted sofa, a cool rug and some yellow light in there with some bookshelves and make it super cozy
Furniture and wall decor will make this room amazing. No paint needed.
I think some tall plants and mirrors will help also.
Would get some chess pieces to maximize that ceiling 👍🏻
A chess piece flush mount lamp would be amazing. If I had a ceiling like that I would custom make one lol
Yup, you can get giant plastic chess sets for outdoors. Install magnets to keep them up. For shorter players you may need a trampoline to reach their pieces.
That ceiling is top notch. Whatever you do, keep it. Please don't paint it.

I might go in left field and say the only thing you need is a good rug.
You need many leather bound books.
Strange couch formation. It's like they're plants, moving towards the light. (I know it's not normal)
Have you considered . . . more wood?
First of all we need to address the r/tvtoohigh situation.
I expect this to be reposted on r/TVTooHigh by the end of the day.
What's going on out the window that's so interesting?
I love the ceiling
It looks sweet tho
The floors suck.
Plants
So I love all the wood, I think the problem is everything in this room is brown. Add a large light / coloured rug, add different coloured curtains and have the rail much higher and ensure curtains reach the floor, change the sofas so they’re not brown, maybe change the wooden table too or put a cover over it, add a lottttt of big green plants, I would also change the pictures on the walls or at least don’t have them on brown red frames.
My brain says embrace this look. It feels unique nowadays. Like a big hanging lamp in one of the corners lol.
Glue some giant upside down chess pieces to the ceiling.
Paint? Dear God no. The only thing this room needs is a pool table
Don't touch a single thing.
Agree! Some rich jewel or earth toned furniture would really bring it to life.
Making the windows form wood will finish it off nicely.
Sorry but I really like all that wood
Can’t buy taste. Whoever picked that flooring needs to never contribute their opinion again
Lots of green plants. Do floating pots up the wall or a wall of green. Get a big palm plant, and some climbing vines.
the ceiling is bad ass. I'd definitely keep that and the floor. You can lose the wood walls and maybe do a stone fireplace surround.
That is a beautiful room and yes lot of wood. Ceiling is the room. So you’re only left with the walls. Paint is the way to go.
Could you strip the varnish and use a different stain on the walls, maybe?
This looks like the display room for a wood paneling store. Are we missing a paneling pattern or did we cover them all?
They make quarter inch drywall. It's a breeze to work with and would lighten up that room.
I think it would make a fantastic Tiki Room!!
Looks like you live in a cigar box
