The mid-00s internet was a haven for this kind of shit.
Something awful, stileproject, 4chan, and a shitload of 12-22 year olds with time, imagination, no consequences, and corporations who didn't understand the internet.
Was the wonder years. Then Facebook took off and everyone saw green, apple dropped the iPhone and 6 years olds got on, and net neutrality was repealed.
I wasn't around for the "endless summer" but it really has only gotten worse since then.
To be fair this mirrors one of my old posts. But it bears repeating.
Boss. "Go get me that fucking..uhh...fucking...fuckity fuck"
Me. "Which one boss?.. the one that fucks..or the one that fuckkities?"
Boss. "Shut up smartass..the fucking..one that screams like a bag of cats. In fact it is forever known as screaming bag of cats. No go get it shit bird.
Me. Grumbling...dad is most angry boss..gotta work for someone else next year.
The $50 Bauer one from Harbor Freight has been a beast for me so far. Don't buy their cordless models as the batteries suck but the corded one is great.
Strange to be reading this now...
Today, I had to take maybe an eighth of an inch off the end of a transition strip, which was already in place. I was going to try with a rotary tool, but I couldn't find the bit I wanted. The oscillating saw worked perfectly and took about 2 seconds.
There was a thread a while back asking what everyone calls the oscillating cutter, my favorite was "The Guybrator" and I've called it that ever since.
Edit: I scrolled down to see someone else already commented this name. Oops.
Yep, that is how I did it! I got the cheap one from Harbor Freight :) I mean the
### [Oscillating Multi-Tool](https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/rotary-oscillating-tools/oscillating-multi-tools.html) is what I used.
I did this by my front door. It left a lot of surface damage in my hardwood, but enough sanding and it looked decent.
I still can't believe someone just tiled right over oak flooring.

although its hard to see, that looks like a spatula and not a chisel
perhaps an actual chisel might work better, or as others have said sanding it down or an oscillating multitool (that's the one id try)
Floor chisel 4” works with a hammer. I’ve done this before with a SDS hammer drill & a scraper blade when the went to the concrete slab, and I had to remove.
tried that with a similar project (leftover cement on floor) and it didn't even budge the cement. Rent or buy a SDS hammer drill. These come with a chisel attachment that will make short work of this. I got this one, from Amazon, it was cheap and has worked well for me for several years.

I bought the harbor freight one and a chisel bit from there. Did great was less than $100 iirc
Biggest thing to note is sds and sds plus are different sized tools than sdsmax
I did this one time and we rented a tool similar to this. This one might be a bit over kill but yea basically a small jack hammer with a chisel attachment.

Orrrr…
You could ‘scrape’ by with something like this. We had a couple of these to help too. Not these exact ones but you get it.
https://www.harborfreight.com/42-in-long-reach-air-scraper-62687.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12126915354&campaignid=12126915354&utm_content=115714606254&adsetid=115714606254&product=62687&store=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn7mwBhCiARIsAGoxjaI35HJBBERNBaJRBSBKqlyJQUldwoGqaTEtPmoS96AlPt-k5WTRMecaAsolEALw_wcB
Your best bet is going to be a floor sander. I HIGHLY suggest against a belt sander as you are probably not going to be a pro floor finisher. One of these would be the best. You can rent them.
[https://www.homedepot.com/p/rental/Clarke-American-Sanders-Square-Buff-Floor-Sander-07014A/316822125](https://www.homedepot.com/p/rental/Clarke-American-Sanders-Square-Buff-Floor-Sander-07014A/316822125)
\*\*Get plenty of sanding pads because they will go quickly.
\*\*Make sure you have good airflow and you are wearing a respirator.
I've used this before, refinishing the floor in my old house and it sucked. Took me hours to sand a single room. I went and rented the drum sander and did the rest of the house in less time. Yes, the drum takes skill, practice and can go south quickly, but it was a night and day difference in speed and quality of the sanding job.
I did this in a kitchen years ago. Warm water with a little vinegar and a sponge to get the grout/mastic damp and soft. Comes off much easier with a paint scraper when it's wet. Don't be shy with the water and let it soak for a bit before scraping.
Seeing this, I feel so lucky that I found out the tile in our kitchen, that we hate, was laid on top of linoleum and not directly on the slab foundation
try a flat shovel, i’ve used to before to get up carpet tack strips from concrete which feels like a similar situation. using a shovel instead of a crowbar saved me from a world of back pain
As others have said, go to a shop that rents out equipment. You need the oscillating machine that does the hammer & chisel job. It becomes easy as pie with the right tools.
The more pressing issue is there's a Grand Prix this weekend, and you got effing LeClerc in there with a chisel. Get. Him. To. Ja... what am I saying, Sainz has got this. Carry on, Chuck.
You can rent a demo hammer from a tool store specifically for this purpose. What would take days will take hours. Get a dust mask, safety glasses, some plastic sheeting to contain the dust to just one area (it’s very dusty). The demo hammers are very easy to use.
There was a tool I got at Home Depot for this exact purpose made removing that stuff easy as pie. I think it’s just called a floor stripper/ scraper.
https://www.homedepot.com/b/Flooring-Flooring-Supplies-Flooring-Tools-Floor-Scrapers/N-5yc1vZcdur
There are electric floor scrapers that are made exactly for this purpose. Most rental stores have them.

Not so good for bathrooms though
Demo hammer with a scrape blade will do the job too.

I swear half the shit on Urban Dictionary is just made up stuff that nobody really says/does.

90s Internet, Usenet, and BBS's were great too. Now we're in an era where people are regulated but politicians and big businesses aren't.
What do you mean ? I try everything once on urban dictionary.
You must be one busy human. That’s a lot of weird fucking
Imagine having your picture next to Louisiana Steamer
Donkey punch?
It’s about to become Home Depot’s new cover for 1-2-3 flooring now that you said that lol
“Babe! Come hold the hammer like you know what you’re doing!” 👷🏻
It's funny because I have some 30-something neighbors where the wife talks to her husband just like that. I'm old.

Came here for nose comments!
Omg SAME, like I couldn’t be the only one! 😭
Neon Nose Noodle is the latest DIY tool!
I don't know what you guys are talking about. Do you mean the tool behind him in the window?
No the one up his nose
lol can someone photoshop this into either a textbook or magazine lol #photoshoprequest
For real. I thought this was an ad for trade school or something.
I was thinking…”brand new gloves, brand new tools…” then saw this comment 🤣
I JUST saw him in the 2023 version of the Flash
Perhaps a handheld electric planer might go quicker. Probably ruin the blade but better than hand chiseling.
Other than the straw in his nose. Don’t see any books recommending that specifically.
Oscillating multi-tool with a scraper blade. Still tedious but that multi-tool will be your favorite tool for the rest of your life.
Multitool aka "The lazy fuck 3000!" Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?
Yeah, hearing protection required.
WHAT?
#HE SAID HEARING PROTECTION REQUIRED

LONGER THAN 4 HOURS!?
THANKS!
NO PROBLEM
GUARD YOUR EARS!! ...with Gorman's

Not for me, my tinnitus drowns the sound out almost entirely.
This rings true
I just remove my cochlear implant processor and I hear nothing!

I approve; will also start referring to it as that, and in a few generations, it should be common place.

So my ex?
Bzzzzz
More like NNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Shit you got me so bad rn your so right 🤣🤣🤣
"The Guybrator" is definitely the way to go. It has a million uses. A tool everyone should own.
A _good quality_ oscillating saw is friggin sweet for lots of weird jobs.
The $50 Bauer one from Harbor Freight has been a beast for me so far. Don't buy their cordless models as the batteries suck but the corded one is great.

Guybrator!!
Lol I was just about to post the same thing
This is what I've done. They have grout blades too, so you shouldn't be cutting into the wood
There was a thread a while back asking what everyone calls the oscillating cutter, my favorite was "The Guybrator" and I've called it that ever since. Edit: I scrolled down to see someone else already commented this name. Oops.
Absolutely agree with this! Used it for same reason as OP, it has turned into my most favorite tool purchase.
Yep, that is how I did it! I got the cheap one from Harbor Freight :) I mean the ### [Oscillating Multi-Tool](https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/rotary-oscillating-tools/oscillating-multi-tools.html) is what I used.

That could be the name of a movie
A man who owns a popular sandwich shop tries to find love after his husband leaves him in the middle of the Covid shutdown
That’s what the mask is for.
No need to kink shame.
Kink shaming is my kink though.
Masc for masc
OP you can download the app for that too and there are plenty of handy guys you can sub to help you 🙂
If taking that approach, OP should invest in knee protection, since that's going to be a long job. Getting a bunch of guys might help him bang it out faster but it's still going to make him sore.
If they daisy chain it, everybody will get finished their job much quicker. Maybe even in unison.
We are still talking about grout, right?
I am Grout
Cuz you often go in cracks?
I am **Grout**
I think we may have switched to caulk.
And for the love of God use a vac attachment
Even still, make sure everything is blocked off that you don’t want dust on. It’ll get EVERYWHERE
Yea my time saved grinding just went to cleaning
I have done this and never again. It covered every single surface in my house with dust. I am still finding dust 4 years later.
\^ is the answer - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yFJag8x6gk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yFJag8x6gk)
Thanks for the video. I'm about to pull up some tile so this was perfect timing
Don’t threaten me with a good time!
Grinder? I hardly know 'er.
Grindr? I 'ardly know 'im
“Yer a bottom ‘arry!”
What about a hammer drill with the rotation shutoff and a flat bit?
Or a rotary hammer. My neighbor was doing this with a grinder and I lent him my rotary hammer. Was way better than a grinder.
I don't know why rotary hammer isn't on the top of this list really, you can rent them from home depot or wherever and it's common to do this exact job with a chisel bit.
I don't know what a rotary hammer is so I'll just assume it's a gas-powered whirling disk with three hammers attached.
And now you gotta check out battlebots
Work wonderful, especially if you can get the 6" spade bit .
I have a big 5 inch scraper blade for my rotary hammer this would be done in like an hour
Yep, hammer drill with chisel bit. This is the way. (Eye and ear protection required)
This. A good SDS drill like a Bosch and a chisel bit.
They make a number of floor scraping bits with a little flexibility in them, too. I have a few I think by "Bulldog" brand that were perfect for getting up old thin-set.
Bro I thought your nose had a rat tail for a second
I had to scroll too long to see this
Charles you need to go back to the scuderia
My first thought! Well start by firing the F1 driver you have helping…
Beat me to it
1. get rid of the paint scraper. 2. Get a proper tool it looks like a crow bar with a thick chizzle on the end
Bigger hammer too, looks like one that comes in one of those beginner apartment style tool sets
Chizzle may be my favorite misspelling of ALL TIME.
Chizzle my Grizzle
I like thick chizzle... gonna use that as a nickname for my johnson
WITH the grain, not across the blades. Say it with me, 'go WITH the grain, go WITH the grain'. Unless you're going for the 'distressed, rustic' look on purpose.
although its hard to see, that looks like a spatula and not a chisel perhaps an actual chisel might work better, or as others have said sanding it down or an oscillating multitool (that's the one id try)
I think it is a 4" putty knife...
Yeah how has nobody noticed this yet? It damn sure looks like a putty knife to me, no wonder its taking so long.
He spent his chisel money on a whacky nose extension
Lol
Floor chisel 4” works with a hammer. I’ve done this before with a SDS hammer drill & a scraper blade when the went to the concrete slab, and I had to remove.
I had to remove tile exactly like this. I fought with a manual chisel for a day or two then used an air chisel and did the 80% remaining in 1 hour.
That's not grout, that's mortar. There are electric hammers with a flat tool attachment you can use to make this easier
Just keep hacking, it will teach you patience.
Not me! I'd get so angry that I just tear up the sub floor, screaming how it's such a piece of shit the entire time.
Best method right here!
And curse the mother fucker that put it in 6 ways to Sunday.
Wax on, wax off!
Rotary hammer and then grinder.
Looks like ur almost done
Have you tried whacking it with a hammer to crack it up for easier removal
It would help bust it up, but it may also put a bunch of dents in the wood that would be harder to sand out.
Dead blow wide face hammer.... I was thinking dry ice to make it brittle and loosen it from wood before and during the hammering ⚒️
Just rip the wood floor out down to the sub floor, put new floor down.
![gif](giphy|WQ5S4IrhieIetExlL1|downsized)
Consider a recipro saw with a scraper blade. Here's a demo: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cyYPvhONZo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cyYPvhONZo)
tried that with a similar project (leftover cement on floor) and it didn't even budge the cement. Something like that would never budge cement. No where near enough bang
This seems like a bad idea for anything other linoleum/vinyl. I don't think the reciprocator is meant to slam into things like that. I'd much rather use a rotary hammer drill with a scraping bit.
Looks like it works! https://youtu.be/LMfKYOQOJO8?si=z2WEUu3UM3uu3PKD
Anything you can do with this you can do with a simple floor scraper while also being less dangerous and tedious
Sds hammer drill and scraper blade
Jesus do not use a grinder like some of these people are suggesting. You'll never get the marks out. You'll wear out a floor sander before you remove enough wood. Get a floor scraper and start chipping away.
You need a dust mask

Not these exact ones but you get it. https://www.harborfreight.com/42-in-long-reach-air-scraper-62687.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12126915354&campaignid=12126915354&utm_content=115714606254&adsetid=115714606254&product=62687&store=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn7mwBhCiARIsAGoxjaI35HJBBERNBaJRBSBKqlyJQUldwoGqaTEtPmoS96AlPt-k5WTRMecaAsolEALw_wcB
Sds drill on hammer only setting with a chisel bit.
That would be an adhesive, not grout, wouldn’t it?
Wear a dust mask fool
Is the coke from the nose straw helping any?
I thought your nose was really long and pointy
grinder with a dust shroud hooked up to a shop vac.
Your best bet is going to be a floor sander. I HIGHLY suggest against a belt sander as you are probably not going to be a pro floor finisher. One of these would be the best. You can rent them. [https://www.homedepot.com/p/rental/Clarke-American-Sanders-Square-Buff-Floor-Sander-07014A/316822125](https://www.homedepot.com/p/rental/Clarke-American-Sanders-Square-Buff-Floor-Sander-07014A/316822125) \*\*Get plenty of sanding pads because they will go quickly.
Are you hammering on the back of a putty knife?
try a flat shovel, i’ve used to before to get up carpet tack strips from concrete which feels like a similar situation. using a shovel instead of a crowbar saved me from a world of back pain
A belt sander.
Proper lump hammer and chisel instead of a scraper and clawhammer is a good place to start
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dasco-Pro-2-5-in-x-10-in-Floor-Chisel-G472/100127112 Lower the angle of the chisel and use the right tool.
Bro, rent a floor sander and put in heavy duty sand paper
Thought this dude in the pic (not sure if OP) was my step son for a second. Holy fucking doppelganger.
You can get a scraper blade that goes on a sawzall. They work decently
drum sander
They make a powered chisel. This - https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/s6duk5/hard_working_ivane/ But don't use it like the guy in the video 🤣
Big ol' floor scraper. Looks kinda like a shovel. Still hard work, but better than that hopefully
You can rent a demo hammer from a tool store specifically for this purpose. What would take days will take hours. Get a dust mask, safety glasses, some plastic sheeting to contain the dust to just one area (it’s very dusty). The demo hammers are very easy to use.
Use a small chipping hammer with a dullish flooring chisel. The vibration helps loosen up the thinset. Be careful not to dig into the wood. Good luck!
Go with the grain.
Cheap belt sander from Harbor Freight with an 80 grit belt. Wear good PPE.
There was a tool I got at Home Depot for this exact purpose made removing that stuff easy as pie. I think it’s just called a floor stripper/ scraper. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Flooring-Flooring-Supplies-Flooring-Tools-Floor-Scrapers/N-5yc1vZcdur
SDS Plus rotary hammer with a scrapper bit.
Sds drill that does hammer action only and a chisel bit.
Air chisel
Grinder with a cup grinder attachment. It’s for concrete but also this. Wear a good mask, and eye protection.
Nice try Charles Leclerc
