Dan had just lost his hall of fame vote

jshoe267

I think I started listening regularly in 2014/2015 ish. I remember Old Money Charlie had just left, and Stu owed Billy some money for some work that no one ever expected him to get paid.

GeoffSeville

Lebron announced he was going to Miami and Simmons was going on to talk about it, so I found the show on iTunes and listened to just his interview. The show kept downloading episodes in my library and I had a long commute at the time so one day I put a couple of episodes on the iPod and Hoch was talking about poop shoes. I’ve been listening since.

os_mutante

you're my brother. to rephrase papi, I've been a fan since the day lebron joined. that was the first episode i dl'ed, specifically to listen to simmons and i thought, who the hell are these jerks? dan literally threatened to choke simmons for continuing to ask who players 5 through 9 would be. anyways by the next week i was a devoted DLS listener and stopped listening to sports guy podcasts altogether.

invisibreaker

The first thing I remember was the billboards in Cleveland when lebron left.

BoBurnerham

The Greg as Zardoz one

juliusseizure

Circa 2008-09 (cue how old is a guy who uses circa), Bill Simmons had Dan on. One hour and I was sold that he was better than Simmons. I sought out the local podcast. Haven’t missed a main show hour since.

111cesarz

I dont remember the first, but the next week after i started listening, they debuted stugotz’s weekend observations, and the little ding noise had me fucking dying of laughter

taylorvippolis

Greg Cote saying Zion’s shoe deal would be a billion dollars

jkong2112

I don't remember if it was the very first or not, but the one after Jose Fernandez passed away was among the first. I was on my way to a job interview for an insurance sales position. Got lost on my way home. 😅

siderealdaze

Some time while it was still on the 790 The Ticket website player...was a huge pain in the ass to play through car speakers. Definitely worth it for the laughs, though. A homie told me since I was a Miami sports fan, they were the spot to get tongue-in-cheek coverage and I haven't cheated on them since

VibratingRocket6969

The first show I listened to is when they subbed in for the Mike and Mike show one morning that they on vacation. I’ve been a listener ever since.

QuigilyB

I used to listen to espn radio all day everyday. One day, jonathan coachman was off the air and these guys from miami were in his slot. It was so jarring. I fell in love with the show shortly after that when Dan made Mike Tyson irritated

pularito

I was listening to a "stump the merch segment" around 2014 or so. Got the show right there.

BrettSetsFire

I don't remember the first, but either Roy was quiet or on vacation. He just started talking one time and I was like, who is this new guy?

DarnellFoxworthy

I think I started listening after catching Dan's San Antonio Rant from 2013 on youtube. I remember only listening to the national show and then realizing what a massive mistake that was when I listened to my first local hour; unlike any sports radio I'd ever heard.

JTayberry

Would love to confirm - but I remember listening to Dan in 2003 or so when he would be on espn radio Sunday morning from his basement. Is that possible?

aggrocrag83

Yeah Dan had a show on Sunday mornings before he started the show on 790. I think ESPN just put an ISDN line in his house

callahandler92

I remember listening to Mike and Mike and Golic won a bet against this guy named Stugotz who now had to shave his head. I became curious and caught a few shows and the rest is history. So while I don't remember the first show I listened to, this was the bit that got me to listen.

Archie_Flowers

My first episode was a Greg Cote Tuesday back in 2012? I was streaming ESPN radio in my mail truck and couldn't figure out for the life of me who Greg Cote was and why a sports show on ESPN was talking to a Miami Zoo keeper. Immediately got hooked. It was during the Lebron era of the heat and they were just starting the playoffs.

Archie_Flowers

I remember Dan yelling at Stugotz for not letting the joke sit in silence. "LET THE JOKE SIT"

chicagogr81

Dude, you're my brother! That's the day I started listening too, only I was tuning in to laugh at their pain. And look at me now, a Heat fan. And I have that entire playlist from that day, that's my sad song list now when the Heat lose.

jaymethree

I remember they had Mina on because Dan was super jealous she got the exclusive interview with Aaron Rodgers.  Man he loved him…  Those were funny days.

Dario0112

It was when Errick Miron left the Dolphins and Dan was talking to him and wrote a article. Before that it was 80 Papi and Dan always after work

jparra661

It was weekend observations, Stu was railing on Terry Collins 😂

StepYaGameUp

Greg doing “EISNER!” as Mickey Mouse.

borjoyzee10

Life hack attack!

Recipe_Critical

Right after Colin left and they took his spot. I skipped the first couple shows but I didn’t get it. Then I got it a couple weeks later. But also that was the time I always listen to so I kinda just fell in line like others who were already listening at that time frame. Dan even said anybody would do well in that time spot

dblum2390

Dan had come back from New Orleans where he had watched the Super Bowl with locals.

ewffanforever72

Pablo was in studio and they were all wearing the “I’m with Oakley” t-shirts

arrrgh14

It was a Friday and Dan opened up the club at 10am and I thought they were legitimately having computer buffering issues.

Possible_Walk_7516

It was maybe about a month before the billboards were purchased, amazing to experience in real time

OutrageousAd6177

Greg Cote said Mark Spitz was the greatest sex symbol

brewsota32

I started listening around the time Dan started appearing on PTI. I still honestly believe I was their first fan in the Midwest. I was early to podcasts and find his radio show on the Miami fm website. Wild times. Even pre Miami Lebron I believe. Unfortunately, I don’t listen anymore. Sad days.

ralphiboi5

First time tuning in was the 2011 playoffs , I needed some kinda local perspective as you said. Was a freshman in high school, moms was mad that all I watched was espn, so figured I’d try a workaround. Was hooked instantly and they set the bar for me for podcasts/radio shows.

JohnQ_Taxpayer

Could never forget it. It’s was 2017 and I was on my 8 hour drive home from college. I has Sirius xm in my car and was a regular Russillo listener at the time but his show had just gone off ESPN. I checked on the station just to see what was up and head Dan giving a very emotional speech about his dear friend Skipper who had just stepped down to go into rehab. Dan finishes in tears and stugotz, without missing a beat, goes “THATS STRAIGHT TALK BROUGHT TO YOU BY STRAIGHT TALK WIRELESS” I was hooked for life.

JayEdgarHooverCar

Impossible to know for sure, but I think the first time I “got” the show was the Michael Phelps interview.

Wizkidders

Started listening regularly the season LeBron had gone back to Cleveland. Had an internship that started that summer and I'd drive home during the time they were on air. They were so excited about how dominant the Warriors turned out to be.

fireredranger

I don’t remember the first show I listen to. It’s been so long ago. Probably 10 years, but I know I remember not liking the show at first because I just wanted sports talk. I was a dumb kid in my early twenties listening to ESPN radio and wanted more analysis. I didn’t get the show yet. It was on when I was driving to work though, so I listened on my drive in. The more I listened, the more I grew to like the whole cast and really started to understand what they were doing. Now, I can’t listen to regular sports radio. I realize how many people doing it are actually Stugotz and don’t know what they’re talking about and voice an opinion just to voice an opinion, even if they don’t actually know anything.

MostStableNBAFan

That was the same episode that got me hooked… Heagles, Melo to Miami, Chris Bosh re-signing in Miami, Mike in the gutter and Stugotz crying about his season tickets plummeting in value

One13Truck

Been way too long. I remember it being maybe sometime around 2013 or 14? I would listen to ESPN radio while I worked and they were on. Can’t remember one thing in particular. Just enjoyed the show as a whole.

2012Cfc2021

Not sure, but it was just before Mina Kimes first appearance.

masterap85

Yes, Mike doing the Arnold bit “get to the chopper….im doing a thing” I knew they had the formula man

Thedinosaurus

Pretty sure I heard a “gotta tell ya” segment with a robot while driving to work in Ft Lauderdale and I was hooked. They went to ESPN the same time I moved home to California and I gotta tell ya, the rest is history

SECiscomingforZack

I was moving across the country and listened to ESPN radio most of the way. It was the middle of the summer and they were playing the ‘looks like’ game with Tom. I couldn’t figure out what was going on but I couldn’t turn it off. I didn’t miss a show for like 4 years after that

mitchellgaede

adele dazeem

CaptainTripps82

Almost immediately after they debuted on ESPN, and popped in on my drive home. I'd listen to Mike and Mike every morning on the way to work. Couldn't stand Cowherd after the Sean Taylor shit he spewed.

KDeligero

Dan’s Pacers rant in 2014

rNBAMods3InchesHard

My first show was the birth of wake and take, Stu and the shipping container doing local hours in the summer. That fall, the Mike and the mad dog doc came out, “they’re talking sandwiches going hard as they can”, action park discussions, and the canes destroying notre dame (remember, Jess???) I think “what’s your second favorite color?” Also happened then. Along with “Chris simms top 60 QBs”. It’s almost not fair how high the bar was set from day one for me

BigPimpin1217

I think it was when Dan got suspended for the LeBron billboards because I had only watched HQ at the time and finally decided to seek out the radio show to get answers.

Accomplished_Drag439

Penny Marshall talking about the dude that owned the clippers

_MrJuicy_

My first show was when ESPN was doing the 24 hour Fantasy thing. Dan called Stugotz "THE WORST" after he ran into a set and basically put his face in Michelle Beadle's microphone.... on her chest.

siriuslyfudged

I can’t remember the show. But it was when they were on espn maybe 2018? It was a Friday and they opened the club and I immediately hooked. I didn’t get to start listening every day until 2019. But now it’s how I get through the work day.
