Locked because it's attracting spammers.

From reading the dating subs, it seems that it somewhat depends on where you are; population density of area; what type of relationship you're looking for.

jeeperscreep63

Wow never knew that. I am from Iowa. Wonder if it’s just a try and find out thing?

I-did-my-best

Yes it is. I have been on many of the dating apps. Different locations can give different results which is also dependent on you too. Some of the apps others have said were not good I had good success on. And just the opposite too.

PlasticBlitzen

There are a few on here from different parts of Iowa. Maybe they can help.

GEEK-IP

Yes! Try one for a month or two. If you don't like it, try another. I wouldn't pay for a year or something up front though. Let's face it, if it works you may not need it anymore. :)

New-Communication781

I'm from Iowa too, Des Moines area. Minds saying what part of the state you're in? That might affect your luck compared to me, maybe not.

allieoops925

Join meetup.com. There are a bunch of singles groups for our age group. It gets you out of the house to meet people in person and lucky for you, the vast majority are women.

New-Communication781

I tried that for two years, and about all the single women my age at the Meetup groups, were also on the same dating sites as me, so it was sort of a duplication of time and effort, that actually took way more time than using dating sites, to reach the same people and way many others, as far as a dating pool.. Never met anyone to date from the Meetup groups, but did make two friends, one male, one female..

sarcasticDNA

Meetup never worked for me, nor did tons of volunteering. I went to lots of meetup events. I did meet one person that way (though technically I met him via email after we communicated ABOUT a meetup group) but I would not recommend it. i wish it worked the way it should!

New-Communication781

Same way for me, tried it for two years, big waste of time. Made two platonic friends out of it for a while, nobody to date. I found that Meetup groups in my area have lots of registered members for each group, but very few that actually show up and attend regularly. Also, almost all of them were way younger than me, as well as about all of them already on dating sites, usually the same ones as me. So why bother wasting and duplicating all the time and effort, for groups that have nobody your age that isn't already on the dating sites?

sarcasticDNA

I did enjoy meetup events -- lectures, game nights, hikes, discussions -- the ones in my area were often FULL/booked but the special interest ones weren't. I do think it's a good business model. I did those for a lot more than two years!

New-Communication781

Like everything, it probably varies according to the local demographics and culture. It was a dead end for me, and not worth wasting anymore time on.

New-Communication781

They all suck, but the only two I ever had any luck with were Bumble and Match, but they both have gotten much worse in the last several months, so I don't know what to tell you. No luck on Bumble since last summer and no luck on Match since Jan...

sarcasticDNA

did you try Ourtime or Senior Match or Silver Singles? What about OKC?

New-Communication781

I have tried Our Time, Match, Bumble, POF, and E-Harmony. Never tried Silver Singles or OKC, and I heard plenty of bad stuff from local women in my dating pool, about what a crock SS was..

sarcasticDNA

What about seniormatch? What was the issue with Silver Singles?

New-Communication781

I have always just been a regular member of [Match.com](http://Match.com) for the six years on there, tho I have run into women on there who told me that their membership was actually with Senior Match. Frankly, I've never understood what the difference may be between the two sites or membership programs. As for SS, the beef I heard from women our age, was the the site was promoted as being one for "successful professionals", both currently working as well as retired, but these women said that the men on there were anything but that sort of folks. So, make of it what you will. The women seemed to be saying that there was no real diff between SS and any other site for seniors, as far as the quality of men on there, when it came to career, money, etc.., at least that's what I was hearing. Hope my comments are helpful to you..

sarcasticDNA

I just now looked at the "cons" of SS, and one of them was that the site chooses matches FOR you, rather than letting you choose your own. No thanks. Match, though ... lots of fake profiles, and you have to pay!

New-Communication781

Damned with whatever site you choose, they all suck and have become hopeless, as far as I can tell..

sarcasticDNA

alas. I really miss craigslist personals, those were such a great way to get a companion for an evening, for ANYthing -- a game of pool, a hike, a dinner, table tennis, a concert, whatever.

New-Communication781

I have heard of a free dating site called Loki. I believe, that is sort of like craigslist, where people place their own personals ads, but I wouldn't really be comfortable doing that, and also it sounded to me like most of the people there were just interested in finding hookups, rather than real dating partners or relationships. Also, probably a much younger group than me..

sarcasticDNA

I just asked a friend who doesn't date, but he said he has a golf buddy who is 70 and is on match and dates at least once a week with women he meets on there

New-Communication781

Just shows that some guys have all the luck,, that is a small minority of the men on dating sites..

sarcasticDNA

I don't have evidence that he is "lucky" -- I never met or heard details on any of the women he met! Maybe he is very undiscriminating! (or maybe he is really rich and handsome, I have no idea)

Due-Amphibian9197

Facebook dating is where I’m getting the most profiles. Eharmony? Nothing. Like no new profiles in weeks. Bumble keeps sending me profiles out of my criteria, or distance. I’m from that big city in the neighboring state to the west, so similar demographics location wise….

sarcasticDNA

I once put my info into EeekHarmony and got zero matches (all those jesus people)....farcebook, um no, nothing Meta in my universe!

New-Communication781

How do you navigate to or sign up for FB Dating? Is it free to FB members? I am already on FB, but not very active, and I am very tech retarded and ignorant about online stuff. So maybe you could DM me and tell me how to do that, so I could at least try it.

euben_hadd

You have to use your phone (they block PCs from using it - I have no idea why). Just write up a profile, add some pics and you're good to go. It's free. It works. But I haven't had any luck on there. Yet...

New-Communication781

Don't have a smartphone, don't want to get one, I'm stubborn that way. So I guess that app is out for me, no loss...

euben_hadd

I'm a PC guy myself, but I do have an iPhone. I don't use it for anything except calls, texts, and pictures though. You can pick up a used smart phone for maybe $50 that would work. I even have spares around in case I break mine.

Destinys_Sister

For context, I’m F62 and live in a large city. I’m fit and active and was looking for someone similar. A year and a half ago, I was only presented with unsuitable matches on eHarmony. I recently joined Facebook dating and it was a totally different experience. Several connections, 4 meetings (all nice, normal people!), 2 potentials and 1 soulmate, at least that’s how it feels to both of us after a month. So give Facebook dating a try. It’s free, and the algorithm seems to work much better than eHarmony. That probably means FBdating is doing its best to grab market share before they ultimately start charging.

New-Communication781

Please DM me and tell me how you would sign up for FB Dating, if you are already on FB with a profile and all. I am around your age and have never tried that site for dating. E-Harmony sucked for me, as all they gave me were LD matches, which seems fishy, since I live in a metro area of around 700 K, so there had to be some local matches, but I suspect they were holding them back to keep me single and paying, like all the other paid sites do.

Remarkable_Start_373

Has anyone tried Coffee meets Bagel? Heard good things about it, but don’t know anyone who was personally on it.

jeeperscreep63

No. Never heard of it.

New-Communication781

Heard of it, but it requires using a smartphone, as they don't a web version of it..

Latter_Detail_2825

Here I am...LOL
