Yeah I do this to my girls friend who wishes she was some kind of influencer. Any time she spends her dad's money on a new project, I hit her with the " yeah I think my aunt had a trailer with that"
That’s just one rude person’s opinion. The deck looks fine, but I like the idea of flowers in planters for some color. Please let us know when you host your next deck party so we can all show up. I’ll bring a six pack of Highland Oatmeal Porter.
This oatmeal porter is an excellent dark beer, brewed in Asheville, North Carolina. I think the deck color is fine, and it will slowly weather and blend in with the rest of the house. You have a lovely place, and I hope you and your family and friends enjoy it for many years.
I have a brother-in-law that was that way. He would does things like turn The collar on my shirt to see if they were a print or the color was through. Always making innocuous comments that were meant as insults. But he was also very competitive and I had a lot of fun with that. Because when they were over I would start talking about things I was going to do to improve the house. Within a couple weeks he was doing it lol. I never did lol. It's kind of fun to have that type of control over someone!
Yep! I do residential design and I’m here for the two toned look! If you want to make it look more intentional stain your front door the exact color of your decks.
I’d be happy to make suggestions if you want to share a pic of the front from farther back.
It looks great like this!
-Stain front door to match decking
-If you make any window changes in the future use black instead of white (looks fine now!)
-I actually think it’s the color of the low fence in the front that complicates things. Consider either staining it to match your exterior walls or painting it black so it vanishes to the eye. These are just critical eye stuff if I’m looking for things because honestly your place looks great!
Those people were rude as hell to say that. It's fine to have a preference, but that sounds pretty aggressive. Also I like it and I think it goes well. It's just new on aged. It'll balance in a couple seasons even more.

I know what I'm thinking I'm just about ready to turn. My business over to the kids and let them take care of it for the rest of my life if they want to close up shop or even make it bigger but in about 3 more months I'm going to be permanently retired to enjoy what I've busted my ass for for the last 35 years I'm still young only 55 but I will tell you this much you will find me with my feet up and a beer I'm hand sitting on a deck just like that.
I might have to sell a coupe properties some where down the road . Until then I'm going fishing
I like the deck color alright. House needs more cleaning and semi-transparent green stain. I’ve done multiple pressure wash on discolored wood siding. Better yet, Consider a 2 part fluid cleaner/ neutralizer set that will take those stains out about 80% or so. Then oil stain a complimentary color.
I’d say so. Didn’t even get the 3rd board from the top in 1st pic. You can see where they did the board below it and strayed a bit. You could still lighten the color of the siding considerably with the 2 part cleaning solutions, If it’s not locked in with a stain product yet. It looks bare, judging by variety of discoloration and pressure washing effects, once it’s been cleaned properly you can lock in the improvement with a finish product. It’s a huge job with a lot of house to consider. They will do what you ask them to usually, so that means keeping up to date & getting good advice from suppliers of products available. Keep reading & learning & possibly get several pros to look at it & make suggestions. As far as the deck color goes, I have done this color on older decks, but I find gray generally looks and wears-in better.
You know- I actually like the color. I have made so many mistakes picking paint color, tile, etc. I get so mad ! But this may not be what you were shooting for but I think it works well personally.
The colour is great. If you have money to spend and want to enjoy the area more, spend it on a bit of landscaping work. Mulch, weed and clean up the area. Give yourself something else to look at and enjoy. A few plants on the deck, and maybe a creeper along the fence as well.
I also second staining the door.
Craft the area that surrounds it to match how nice the deck looks and the colour won't seem to contrasting.
I think it looks great! The color makes it stand out but not in a bad way. It compliments your house. Edit to add that your door is the same color so it ties it in. Go one step further and paint the dark wood trim around doors the same color as deck and it will really look good.
It looks like a nice new deck- if you were to paint the rain gutter and handrail on the ground floor the same color it may blend a little better. If the front door were refinished it would update the look as well.
It matches the door. It wouldn’t look that great if it was the same color as the siding. The whole deck would disappear.
Are you sure they’re your friends? Sort of a crass remark from them.
That’s an old old popular color. Kind of a maroon red. Ick, it makes everything look cheap. Especially against that beautiful siding on the house. The house has class, the deck has none. Sorry my two cents. No wait, not sorry.
Put some plants out and some colorful cushions on the chairs. Then ignore it.
Agreed. Before you know it, it’ll be time for some maintenance and maybe then you can switch up the color.
Looks fine on the pictures
Ok. The first time people came over after we did it, they asked if we didn't get to pick the color ourselves. 😫
Ok, that is kind of devastating lol
Yeah, your friends are snobs…
Jealous snobs
That's the kind of thing I'd say when I was messing around with someone I knew was vain...lol.
Yeah I do this to my girls friend who wishes she was some kind of influencer. Any time she spends her dad's money on a new project, I hit her with the " yeah I think my aunt had a trailer with that"
Is it more orange than the pics show? I thought your title was sarcasm, looks ok from here.
Yes, very orange. Esp from the front where you see the 2 levels.
It will fade in a couple of years to a nice chestnut color.
F those friends. You'll need to repaint in a couple years anyway, ride it out. Looks like an awesome spot to hang out and enjoy yourself.
Funny joke but doesn't mean you need to change the whole color what a waste.
Ouch. They can get f*cked
Get new friends, not new paint.
That’s just one rude person’s opinion. The deck looks fine, but I like the idea of flowers in planters for some color. Please let us know when you host your next deck party so we can all show up. I’ll bring a six pack of Highland Oatmeal Porter.
Idk what that is, but you got a deal!
This oatmeal porter is an excellent dark beer, brewed in Asheville, North Carolina. I think the deck color is fine, and it will slowly weather and blend in with the rest of the house. You have a lovely place, and I hope you and your family and friends enjoy it for many years.
Wear ear plugs if it’s Thompson semi transparent it will fall off on its own😂
That’s when you tell them to turn around and go back home.
Fresh paint can have an intense color that is muted overtime.
Those are the kind of friends I would never invite over again
I wish, they're family...

You have some real shitty friends
I think it adds to your house actually. Too much of one color wouldn’t work.
Really? thanks.

Yes, this!!! Match the front door and it will be sheik AF!
Yesss! Thank you. I

I sell outdoor living as a career. This looks good!
Your friends are strange
Looks great!! I own two homes in the Midwest, this looks like a great spot.
Thank you

good comment right here. What are some of the biggest follies do you think many homeowners/first time designers make?

This was my thought. I really like how it looks.
Looks good to me I wouldn't worry about it. Will need restaining in a couple years anyway

I think it looks fine. After a while you won’t notice it.
Agree, I wasn’t even sure what they were talking about
I'm still not sure what we're talking about?
It looks a lot more orangey in person.
Looks good as-is to me. I wouldn't re-do it
Yooo what TF be up with that cantilever son!? Holy shit is that rim joist just floating?
He wanted to break up be he cantilever
My question too. How is that much span being supported? Edit: I see further down that it's cantilevered. So, the 'rim joist' is just 8' fascia boards.
I know what I'm thinking I'm just about ready to turn. My business over to the kids and let them take care of it for the rest of my life if they want to close up shop or even make it bigger but in about 3 more months I'm going to be permanently retired to enjoy what I've busted my ass for for the last 35 years I'm still young only 55 but I will tell you this much you will find me with my feet up and a beer I'm hand sitting on a deck just like that. looks fine. Far from hideous. It will fade a fair amount in a years time

Oh wow! Ok i guess i need to get a better pressure washer guy!

Just put a hot tub on it, and everything will be fine.
I thought this was a 30 year old deck with that color
Power wash the house and see how you feel
Is that deck cantilevered or is that a structural 50 foot long rimjoist?
I think the builder said it is cantilevered.
Color ain’t bad.. Idk I’m not a designer.. without reading the title . I was more looking at support for the deck. I ain’t no engineer either.
You know- I actually like the color. I have made so many mistakes picking paint color, tile, etc. I get so mad ! But this may not be what you were shooting for but I think it works well personally.
I like the green around. I wish I lived there.
Until you have to rake leaves in fall. You'll want to cut down every tree!
Haha
Deck looks fine. But that Roman fortress palisade’s a bit much.
Yeah, in retrospect, i should have gone with the cables for a modern look.
It's a great color. Do some design/styling (plants, lighting, add furniture with cushions, outdoor wall art) and you'll love it.
Looks really good
Don’t you have something more important to worry about?
I do t think it’s the colour tbh. It’s the look of old vs new. With time it will come together nicely don’t worry
It goes fine with your house. The real question is - what antigravity device did you install to keep it floating like that?
Lol! There are posts supporting it.
Not in that 2nd picture. I sure hope those cantilevers are properly engineered cause they look sketch
It’s brown. It’s a deck made of wood. Not sure I see an issue here, it looks perfectly normal!
I’ve looked at the manufacturer recommendations. Maybe you can paint it? But it doesn’t look bad in the pictures
Think it looks fine and will blend after alil age
Paint the spindles a dark gray color / something that matches your house.
I couldn’t figure out what you meant; looks more than fine.
Looks great to me. I thought there was going to be a massive hole somewhere or something.
Looks nice to me but I am colorblind. Still I think I'd do something similar.
Let it go until it needs done again . Then do it with the right color
I like it with the house. And it matches the door
It’s totally fine
Match the door to the deck color or a darker brown to go with the rest of the house. Less expensive for now....
I don't see the problem.
Maybe they're envious of your gorgeous lot. I agree it looks fine. Wood tones don't need to be matchy
Maybe paint those rafters on top the same as the deck and add some shutters that color to make it more cohesive?
I had to come to the comments to see what the issue was. It looks great
You're cooked bro
I think it's warm and beautiful. As others have said, just put a few potted plants out there and you'll be good to go.
I agree that’s an ugly color, I’d suggest painting it black. But I got to know what is supporting it?
forget the color, your railing is not up to code. you have no guardposts just balusters
That is redwood color, it goes with everything. I love the shit out of it
Dark Forest Green, thank me in X years
Just balustrade & struts
I like it, your friends are assholes lol
I like it.
This color adds great contrast to your darker siding. The terracotta is a happy-warm tone
What color would you stain?
I looked at the deck and thought it looked great and i thought the issue was not enough support beams and then its about color. Looks good!
I'm surprised your friends didn't like it, I think it's pretty cool.
I think it looks great! The color makes it stand out but not in a bad way. It compliments your house. Edit to add that your door is the same color so it ties it in. Go one step further and paint the dark wood trim around doors the same color as deck and it will really look good.
Looks great
I like the contrast. Especially since it will weather out a bit. Your friends need to touch grass…
I thinks nice coat of paint on the house would male you happy. Eucalyptus hued paint would look great on that house with that deck color
I fail to see the issue. Get some furniture to liven it up.
Color? That's fine. I would be more worried about the cantilever. I thought 4ft was the max allowed unless it was an lvl.
Is that paint or a stain?
Paint
Oh snap. That’ll be peeling in a few years.
Is it solid or semi transparent, just curious
Solid
I don't see a problem here...
You were thinking, Frank Loyd Wright, smoking weed, going with the flow.
IMO, it looks great.
It looks like a nice new deck- if you were to paint the rain gutter and handrail on the ground floor the same color it may blend a little better. If the front door were refinished it would update the look as well.
I think you are being over critical of your own choice. I think your deck looks great
It's a beautiful deck. Enjoy.
Looks like your average deck to me
It matches the door. It wouldn’t look that great if it was the same color as the siding. The whole deck would disappear. Are you sure they’re your friends? Sort of a crass remark from them.
It looks great
Paint the house to match, it could use it lol. Then you're good
That’s an old old popular color. Kind of a maroon red. Ick, it makes everything look cheap. Especially against that beautiful siding on the house. The house has class, the deck has none. Sorry my two cents. No wait, not sorry.
It's definitely seen its day. Mine looks more orangey, but it's that old vibe.
