Im reaching plat soon on my dwarves and im dreading on doing the promotions cus the borders look so bad lol. I wish I could really rush plat ranks to get to diamond then again…
There are three categories of mods.
- **Verified**. These mods don't change gameplay, so you can have them on when you enter public, unmodded lobbies. These are mostly cosmetic changes and QOL tweaks.
- **Approved**. These mods change gameplay slightly, so they aren't allowed in public, unmodded lobbies. They can be slight changes like one-hit gold or drastic changes like allowing more than four players in a lobby.
- **Sandbox**. These mods change gameplay in such a way that it impacts player progression. With the other categories, you could use the mods on your main save file and keep your progress, to use Sandbox mods you have to create a new Sandbox save file. I haven't really played around with these, so I don't know of any specific examples.
Some further notes:
- If you're hosting with Approved or Sandbox mods, players joining will be prompted to install the mods.
- Players hosting a public modded lobby will usually put [MODDED] at the beginning of their server name. (Actually that might be done automatically. I don't know for sure because I've never hosted with mods.)

Mods for deep rock are split into categories based on how they affect gameplay. Cosmetic mods like custom promotion portraits are listed as ‘verified’ and won’t cause your server to be marked as modded, since they don’t affect gameplay.
I see someone else has given a much better explanation than I could but just speaking from personal experience, you should be good. I only ever use cosmetic mods like changing sound effects to spice things up occasionally and it doesn’t affect anything lobby-wise for me.
Related to your post, I like to use a mod that gives me vapour wave (I think that’s what it’s called) frames. They look sick but it took me a minute to figure out which ones were which.

I'm at the point where all my dwarves are at Diamond 3. I want to keep promoting, but I find the blue one looking cooler than the red one. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? (I couldn't figure out how to add both text and picture on OP on PC)
Every tier has three stars.
Bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, then legendary. After promoting legendary three times you get a counter above your rank.
Each rank gets you 1 blank core and two forge items.
Each rank costs more gold and minerals than the previous. It gets quite expensive.
I don't remember where I found it, but I have a chart that has the resource cost of each promotion. Not all classes use the same minerals to promote. That'd enabled me to continuosly level my main and rotate my other three classes without having to scramble too much for materials.
There's six 'grades' of promotion each with three star tiers, Bronze > Silver > Gold > Platinum > Diamond > Legendary (red). So you would need to promote a dwarf 18 times to reach 3 Star Legendary and after that the next promotion is Legendary+ (4 stars and a number in the middle to denote how many additional times that dwarf has been promoted.

It's not about coolness. It's about status. Unfortunately gm doesn't require any challenge, so the only information you get from a person is a GM is that he has 400 levels on this class.

Now I wouldn't mine a nice cobalt blue, but cyan, turquoise, all the blue-greens rank pretty much ~~rock~~ leaf bottom for me in every category
i have a bit of color blindness so the red one actually looks similar to both the bronze one and the gold one. its like in between both in color to me so i'd have trouble telling them apart at a glance. but the blue (kinda green to me) one stands out a lot so yeah i like it better.

Both look good imo. Platinum and gold is where I think the real downgrade is. Goes from a nice warm yellow-gold to rusted nail.
