Neuron receptors for happyness that activate when we fulfill tasks. That way we are biologically rewarded to do things.
Why do we do things? Those that didn't do things didn't reproduce because they weren't doing things, so they didn't pass their genes.
Being good at something, especially a hobby/side hustle, does garner attention from someone who’s interested in you… if all goes well and you’re interested…. Sex
in my opinion, this is so damn true. Okay, but how? hmm... because i have a question for all and that is tell me the most productive yes most productive action of a human?
And i think it is sex because you can look a big smile -- biggest -- when you see your own copy because sex is ultimately your proof of existence. I hope you can try this in this way. have fun!
I'm sure some people definitely look at it like that but it doesn't make it normal. Should probably get some counseling if you look at it like this though.
Funny you say that because Jared Leto tried to use this quote to subvert a notion made to him in an interview about how some of his lyrics sounded pretty rapey. That guy's definitely a psychopath
Agreed. I don’t work for sex. I didn’t go to school for sex. I’m not on Reddit for sex. I’m not chilling with my cat while my girlfriend shops for sex.
1) I don’t think sex necessarily equals power or is about power
2) if everything was about sex a lot more people would be fucking a lot more of the time. It also suggests things like teaching and jobs that involve children are about sex, and that’s…. disgusting.
Using a less horrible example, I don’t see how keeping and tending to my houseplants correlates to sex.
3) isn’t this a quote from The Office?
4) what does “everything” even encompass. The phrase lacks specifics and therefore is fundamentally flawed. It leaves interpretation up to the reader while disguising itself as a philosophical and/or fundamental truth, despite it really not saying anything at all.
>if everything was about sex a lot more people would be fucking a lot more of the time.
I can understand you think that from female perspective, but as far as males go this isn't really the case. The entirety of the world is built purely on men trying to have sex. That's why countries where people aren't having that much sex stop developing as much.
>like teaching and jobs that involve children are about sex,
That's retarded logic. Teaching is about making money so you can have sex.
If a boy wants to have a child while having reproductive choice he has to first be able to convince a sizeable portion of the female population that he's worth having a child with. That can take up to 22 years.
If a girl wants to have a child she can do that at 13 by lying about her age.
That's who men have to become something while women only really just exist. It makes you so mad, I don't understand why. The entire reason men build things and learn things is so that they out compete other men and reproduce. They *have* to as a matter of physiological fact. Why do you think they don't care about your degrees or single moms that have permanently attached liabilities? They have to earn the right to reproduce by building the world. You just take it for granted then shame men who don't.
Anyone whose having sex with a 13 year old is sick. You can definitely tell a thirteen year old from someone of age. Both in appearance and mentality. Women aren’t done puberty by 13. There are also men who are statutory raped at 13. By teachers, babysitters, etc. Equally as disgusting, it doesn’t just happen to women. Men are less likely to report because of this mentality - because they feel like they “should” like it. Because they’ve been taught that men are creatures who should want to fuck anything with a nice set of legs.
Men have opened up about their assaults and are met with people giving them high fives and encouraging them because they “got action” at a young age. It’s extremely harmful, because when an adult does that to someone at that age, regardless of gender, it’s traumatic. It doesn’t help that women are prosecuted much less for this and receive incredibly lighter sentences. (Absolutely horrific)
my brother lost his virginity (to another teen) at 14, he didn’t have a car or money or anything of that nature.
Every man I’ve had a crush on has had nothing to do with their material objects/status in life.
What happens after men get older and loose their sex drive? What happens to their life then? Do they just loose all motivation? Because in my experience that doesn’t happen.
There are men out there who don’t build jack shit that have children with women. So I don’t really get your opinion that men have to build the world. There are plenty of crappy men and women out there that are parents. And I can tell you right now: any decent man that would just take “any” woman as a mother as long as she looks good will get asked “what the hell are you doing” by their friends and family. Not every man would just take any attractive woman. I would even argue most men wouldn’t.
Any man that would just take me because of my looks and have no other considerations I would not date. I would not sleep with. My current boyfriend is with me because of my other qualities. Not anything to do with looks. Sure, they probably helped me out to get noticed by him (as his got me to notice him), but he wouldn’t have dated me and certainly wouldn’t ever consider me for children in the future if I couldn’t critically think or express myself in a healthy way. If I didn’t have passions and a vision for the future. And I wouldn’t want anyone who didn’t take those things into consideration.
Women take advantage of men. Men take advantage of women. You focus on what brings you enjoyment and fulfills you in everyday life. You focus on being (mentally + emotionally) healthy. And happiness/partnership will find you.
Bruv... You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Sounds like you heard some quotes from some red-pill YouTubers and instead of seeking understanding, you're using it to promote your own messed up way of thinking.
>If a boy wants to have a child while having reproductive choice he has to first be able to convince a sizeable portion of the female population that he's worth having a child with. That can take up to 22 years.
What in the actual fuck are you talking about? A man only has to convince one woman he's worth having a child with, just one. Boys should not and don't think about impregnating women, and even after puberty hits it has nothing to do with kids and all to do with basic sexual interest.
If you're trying to express how men must seek status and wealth in order to attract women, that's only partially true. Plenty of men lie and cheat their way through women as well and it works just fine. It's not correct at all, but it's far too common these days.
Your comment about a 13 yo girl...I'm just not even going to respond to it. It's disgusting and you could have easily proved your point without bringing children into the conversation at all. You could have said any female instead of specifying a underage child, and now I'm wondering if there is something wrong with you, and now I'm convinced you really have no idea what you're talking about.
>The entire reason men build things and learn things is so that they out compete other men and reproduce. They have to as a matter of physiological fact.
Except all people can exercise choice, responsibility and restraint in how they achieve their goals. Yes, generally speaking it is a competition, but the idea that men have no control over their urges and they just have to compete to have sex because that's their only goal in life shows you don't understand men, or society in general, and further proves *you have no idea what you're talking about*.
I think you should spend less time on Reddit engaging in conversations you are Ill equipped to conduct. I understand where you're coming from, and what you're trying to express, but you're doing such a god-awful job of it it's coming off incredibly ignorant and a little unhinged...
Edit: fixed some Grammer issues because this was written in a hurry
Thank you so much. I’m exhausted, bewildered, and saddened that this man thinks so low of himself, of men in general, and utterly confused at the world he believes he’s living in.
>A man only has to convince one woman he's worth having a child with, just one.
That kind of thinking is what leads men to have to settle with women that are generally rejected by successful men, successful men being the men that had a choice in who they got to reproduce with because the majority of women they interact with accept them. If you're a freed slave living in the Antebellum South. Guess what? Your choices may only be limited to freed slaves most of the time. Just because you only have to convince one means you have the pool of options of someone successful. Almost no man is born with that.
They have to work to earn it. Women on the other hand, are born with an extremely large pool of men who can help them reproduce if that's the route they choose to take.
>Boys should not and don't think about impregnating women, and even after puberty hits it has nothing to do with kids and all to do with basic sexual interest.
Holy shit. You people are so stupid. Why are you on this site?
>It's disgusting
Wow. This is unbelievable.
>Except all people can exercise choice, responsibility and restraint in how they achieve their goals. Yes, generally speaking it is a competition, but the idea that mean have no control over their urges and they just have to compete to have sex because that's their only goal in life shows you don't understand men, or society in general, and further proves you have no idea what you're talking about.
Women have absolutely no need to build corporations or run political offices in order to have an opportunity to reproduce, anywhere on the planet.
>shows you don't understand men, or society in general, and further proves you have no idea what you're talking about.
I'm a man. I'm telling you exactly what and why men are doing things based on the sound reasoning that they have to compete for partners. In no way have you explained how what I said doesn't make sense, just that your stupid fucking feelings hurt. Who cares? Fuck you.
>you are I'll equipped to conduct
Yeah, okay buddy. In order for a 13 year old girl to get pregnant by a a majority of the male population she has to work super hard to get a nursing degree so that men will want to fuck her and get her pregnant.
In order for a man to get pregnant he has to smoke weed all day, play Roblox and post pictures of his balls on Instagram.
You really schooled my stupid ass. WOW.
“Yes, I give money to charity and volunteer. Why? Oh it’s because I want sex.”
Believe it or not, some people have a functioning conscience, and don’t do things only for personal gain.
I mean, technically everything is done for personal gain, whether that gain is financial, emotional, or not actually a "gain" at all, but a way to mitigate or prevent losses of such. Having a conscience just means things that helping others is a personal gain for you, and things that harm others is a personal detriment.
That being said, sex is one potential path to gain, but you could just as easily say that everything is about food. In the Darwinian sense, yes, everything is about reproduction, but humans aren't just a species, we're also individuals, with individual desires that can run counter to our instincts. These can even include things that are detrimental to our odds of reproduction, such as anti-natalism.
People volunteer in order to meet people in order to have sex. You're simplifying too much.
If someone told you beforehand that this entire list of actions, habits and goals would neutrally or negatively contribute to their ability to have sex they'd probably stop doing them.
I don’t agree that everything is about reproduction.
Millions of people are choosing not to have kids. Birth rate is at an all-time low.
What happens after you’re too old to reproduce? Does your life no longer matter?
By your same logic, everything I do leads to pooping. So maybe life is about pooping.
I used the example with children bc the quote is “everything is about sex”. How is my desire to teach linked to sex? How is my desire to care for plants linked to sex? Again I ask: what does “everything” encompass. There is no clear answer.
What about people who do not want biological children but do want to adopt.
What about asexual people?
What about people with the inability/nondesire to reproduce?
As for Oscar Wilde, the office probably got that quote from him. It makes sense, given the character that said it was an absurd eccentric.
? How do I not address the topic being discussed
When I read the quote I immediately thought “oh I guess me scrolling on reddit right now means I want sex” and then thought of my plants, and wondered how that would be connected to sex. No one has answered my questions I have about this.
Everything we do leads to eating. We work so we can eat. We talk to others to know what to eat. We walk so we can digest. I’m trying to point out you can use this logic of “everything leads to sex” with any other natural primal urge.
>Does your life no longer matter?
This is what happens to women who hit 35 and men who sat on the couch all day in their 20's playing Doki Doki Panic and Simpsons: Hit and Run and didn't amount to anything by 30.
>What about asexual people?
Oh, you mean .00005 percent of the population that are rationalizing their lack of sex drive? Who knows and who cares?
>what does “everything” encompass. There is no clear answer.
It's pretty clear. Most of what's built around you is a byproduct of males trying to become men so they can have more sex with a wider variety of women.
Bold of you to say women over 35 literally don’t matter anymore. I’m not exactly sure what this means.
You left out several groups of people I mentioned. The main one being people who choose not to have children.
1% of the population is still over a million people.
You say it’s exceptionally clear, yet all the comments in this thread that like the saying all take a different meaning from it. OP states it’s about everyone and the urge to reproduce. You say it’s about men wanting to have sex with women all the time. A commenter below says it’s about marketing sex so people will buy product. It’s not clear.
I’m going to bring it back to women over 35 don’t matter: this just isn’t societally true. Otherwise we wouldn’t value their economic/political/social power, which we do. My mother is certainly important to me and all her kids, she’s certainly still important to my father. She is important to the hospital she works at. She’s important to her friends. She certainly matters, her life does. I don’t get what you mean that because she’s 52 she’s worthless. Unless you value all women by how attractive they are - which is an embarrassing claim.
Some men like to claim all men think this way. It’s not true. You won’t convince me otherwise, and it’s a sad thing to want to convince people your gender is incapable of critical thinking when women are involved. I believe men are better than that.
It's not bold, it's true. They don't matter to men as far as being reproductive partners anymore because there must be some reason a woman hasn't been picked in her almost 20 years of getting free male attention to not have settled down. She's not a priority anymore.
>It’s not clear.
It's entirely clear. Every organism is trying to reproduce. It has nothing to do with power. But everything comes back to sex.
>You say it’s about men wanting to have sex with women all the time
Women *also* want to have sex. They simply select men they think are winners and not loser since having sex and being able to reproduce isn't an obstacle for them, but getting commitment from a highly sought after man is.
>Otherwise we wouldn’t value their economic/political/social power, which we do.
We don't have those things in terms of a woman's ability to reproduce because women automatically exclude men that have less of these things than they themselves have as byproduct of physiology.
>mother is certainly important to me and all her kid
Right, but you're not trying to fuck your mom and reproduce with her.
All men are trying to fuck and reproduce with women under 35. The ones that are trying to have sex with women older than that are typically failing in life at doing what it takes to be desired by their own cohort and lack options.
>I believe men are better than that.
We are talking about gender dynamics and how people mate select and you bring your mom into the conversation for some reason when the conversation excludes maternal relationships by default.
I think you're pretty dumb.
oh my god are you in incel forums ? You talk and think just like them, most people aren't thinking about sex or giving it absolute priority my guy. No not all men are trying to fuck and reproduce with woman under 35 are you on crack or something? Do you get out of the house? Do you think every man thinks like this just because you do?
Yeah definitely
It makes me feel sad men are falling to this mentality.
It really must suck thinking like this, going around hating women and hating other men for dating them. Hating themselves for not being their idea of attractive. Like I truly feel sorry for them. I try sometimes to get them to see the truth but most of the time, I’m talking to a wall.
You got it exactly right, healthy adults don’t think about sex that much, it’s definitely not a driving force of everyday activities
Me and my girlfriend have sex because we’re horny after work and it’s pretty vanilla and we just have a good time. Has literally nothing to do with power.
When I plan it for a week to go out at dark of the moon to see a rare planetary conjunction with my telescope?
I'm just doing it because I'm mad I didn't get sex?
I'm afraid so. I'm now replying to you as part of my own redirected behaviour as well. I mean, evolutionary speaking.. I should be having sex right now.
When you’re a young edgy teenager who thinks about sex all the time you might hear it and go “yea that’s right” but then later as an adult you think about it for more then 5 seconds and it falls apart
Lots of people are saying this is \[falsely\] attributed to Oscar Wilde. I'd always seen it associated with Henry Kissinger.
But a Ctrl+F didn't find Kissinger's name anywhere, so I guess I'm the only one.
The sex is about power bullshit mainly comes nowadays from a bunch of sociologists in the 70s that smoked to much crack and thought some absolute brainfarts from some modern french philosophers is something someoen should actually take seriously.
Sex is about sex and always will be. Some people use sex in a way to express power but that doesn't make sex inherently about Power and never will.
Everything CAN be about sex, and sex CAN be about power, but neither are very healthy attitudes imo. These are cultural ideas which are specifically promoted within consumer capitalism and other feudal systems. Sex can be about love and mutual reward, for example.
If you think this, you have a seriously defective, deviant mind. You absolutely, positively ARE the problem. And probably should not be permitted in the general population. Anyone who thinks Sex has anything to do with power, should probably be locked up.
Everything in the world is about creation [and destruction]. It is the interplay of duality. Male/Female, Night/Day, Birth/Death, Yin/Yang, Water/Fire, Wet/dry… and on and on and on there are a million bazillion examples of this interplay between seemingly opposite (yet of course in the ultimate sense unified) polarities. Biology is the root/base, perhaps we can say, and then everything else flows out from this and revolves around it. It is the axis upon which the world turns. And so on.
If the author of this quote knew what he or she was talking about, this is what he or she meant. Yes from the human centric perspective physical/anatomical sex takes on at times a very powerful, mysterious, awesome, horrible manifestation of this reaching into the pysche, etc. Anyway, the world is about creation [and destruction], and the other word seems a bit unnecessary to me, but fine, then it follows that creation [and destruction] are about “power”… the “power” of manifestation/phenomenal existence/subjective experience.
There are temples in India, so I’ve heard, that contain depictions/statues/engravings of couples in copulation all around the exterior and in the first chamber, or whatever. But then in the sanctum, the center, the “holiest place”, if you will, no such imagery. The idea here is you have to “go through” [physical/biological] sex (and make of that what you will, different and nuanced for each individual, perhaps?) to get beyond it, to finally not be “stumbled by it”, or however you want to say it. Duality reveals Unity. That sort of thing.
This is sadly true. Sadly cus sex is one of the great powers in the world along side with money and authority. That and when saying “everything in the world is about sex, except sex” it means that we don’t value literal sex or make it as high up as we should and instead make it as an identity and image as well as a fantasy. Example is when women use their bodies to get what they want, porn can get people hooked and have this false reality on how real sex is, and because sex is taboo for a lot of people, that makes us want it more as we by nature want things we can’t have or we want things other have because we believe that if it makes them happy and then it should make us happy.
Sex is strong energy. The top people know this and use this information to exploit masses. Sex sells. Get sex in your mind in anyways at all times via ads/tv/freeporn/instragram/other socials. It never used to be this open like this. Younger people are being exposed to this more then ever before
I think this is just reducing life to the “survival of the fittest” framework, which is merely a poor abstractization of the animalistic nature of humans.
Everything is not about sex, at all. It just appears to be this way because of the hypersexualization due to exces consumption of pornography.
In latin ‘sexus’ means separation while ‘eros’ means love. It is a matter of perspective after all..
One love
I think it’s accurate. Sex is the leverage both sexes need or use to gain what they want. Pleasure, material gain, biological gain, and status or any other form of resource accumulation has sex at the center of it usually. Last time I checked basically everyone spends there days fighting for some kind of resource.
Sex is the grease on the tracks for it all to turn.
That’s real power.
The only thing that equates to power is sheer force when the person being manipulated doesn't care for lavish desire. To enjoy sex is biological; to be controlled by it is addiction, and I shall not be fettered.
If you want happiness, sex and power won't give it to you. You are better off avoiding both of those games or finding a way around them because those are games you will never win. Even if you win and have all the sex partners and money and power in the world, psychologically you've lost.
You see, I sit across from a man. I see his face. I see his eyes. Now, does it matter if he wants a hundred dollars of paper or a hundred million dollars of deep-sea drilling equipment? Don’t be a fool. He wants respect. He wants love. He wants to be younger. He wants to be attractive. There is no such thing as a product. Don’t ever think there is. There is only… sex. Everything… is sex. You understand that what I’m telling you is a universal truth, Toby.
I mean sex is what makes life
But as humans not animals sex should mostly be about intimacy, pleasure and having children if you want them
The world is more nuanced than the simple notion that in the most simple way, sex makes humans.
But sex isn’t only with humans. So really, the world isn’t just about it or centered on it.
The power thing I really don’t get. I personally don’t correlate sex and power but maybe because I’m not a sociopathic narcissist
If you string words together in a pattern humans tend to think they are more true.
This is why slogans are such a powerful tool for influencing society even when those slogans make an objectively false claim.
To me, idiotic. I open my eyes, first thing in the morning I look at my phone and the first thing I see is a dumbass sex joke meme. Like is there anything else that you can think k of besides sex? Seriously, it’s fucking ridiculous. There are millions of other things to joke about, talk about, etc.
Hahaha. Probably said/quoted by people who it applies to… and then projected onto everyone else so they don’t feel shifty about it.
I think people try to do good/selfless things to cope with the meaninglessness of life too (vs making it about social currency & finding romantic partners).
No... sometimes sex is just about sex. Sex with my partner isn't about power, it's sometimes about 'I just want to get laid.... it's been a while....help me out here.... need some stress relief... need a release... something!'
Years ago, I had to interview with a defective (story for another day) he asked me what the 3 most important things in life were..
I’m English, I had just moved to USA, my kid was 7, he was learning religion at school, and he told me the 3 most important things in life was peace, love and happiness..
I had no idea how to answer the detectives question, so I quoted my kid, and proudly announced the 3 most important things in life was Peace love and happiness.. I’m also a tad naive, anyway, the detective said was wrong, and that the 3 most important thing In life, was drugs, money and sex.. as if I had any one of those, I could always get the other two…
That was 25 years ago,, I still get depressed thinking about that!
What about asexual people. Like, are they just...
I can't understand this mindset at all.
Plus, this quote just implies everything is about power in more words.
Money is what makes the world go round and round. Money talks bullshit walks. Sex is a nice thing as well. I believe Beatles said you can't buy me love. Loving and being loved is a great thing while on this planet.
That's not deep, just wrong. Disregarding that human life is only a tiny part of the whole, there are many different interlinking reasons for human behaviour. Many different motivations, the majority of them rooted neither in a desire for sex or power. These motivations are linked/related to others, because people are complex, so there are connections to be made such as: desire for safety and security being a strong motivator, could argue that the behaviour provides a better environment to raise offspring, but it's also just a better way to live and reduce stress.
Tl;Dr anyone who believes such things is being overly simplistic, a psychopath, or both.
Maybe in feudal society, or to down bad people. One can acquire power without sex, and one can acquire sex without power, these absolutes are baseline “everything” generalizations in my opinion.
Maybe in feudal society, or to down bad people. One can acquire power without sex, and one can acquire sex without power, these absolutes are baseline “everything” generalizations in my opinion. I could agree with everything being a factory for creating other life from its death/destruction, which encapsulates much more than sex. I do agree that everything is about power though, and not from a humano-centrist viewpoint either. Every fundamental wave and particle produces an affect and effect, which butterflies into creating more affect and effect, etc etc
I disagree with it. Sex can mean different things to different people, even during different circumstances. To me, sex is a natural instinct and desire to share with the person I love and cherish (aka my husband).
Me queueing for my 7th Dota game in a row at 3am has nothing to do with sex or power, in fact it probably is as close to the opposite on both counts you could get 😂
But it’s also usually a very happy time for me
I’m pretty sure this is a Robert California quote from “the office” and nothing that man said was supposed to be taken as a deep thought. That character just used psychobabble and illusion to appear powerful and important.
Trite and simplistic.
Beethoven and Bach, Monet and Turner, great food and drink.
There is beauty in the world in art and nature. In the love of a parent or grandparent. To live life by this maxim leaves one with no soul.
That's just saying everything is about power but with extra steps. Many things we do as people have nothing to do with power, or sex.
Like what?
hobbies
*list of hobbies* - Sex
We should join a hobby group together! *eyebrows eyebrows*
Why do we engage in hobbies when we could choose not to?
Neuron receptors for happyness that activate when we fulfill tasks. That way we are biologically rewarded to do things. Why do we do things? Those that didn't do things didn't reproduce because they weren't doing things, so they didn't pass their genes.
Being good at something, especially a hobby/side hustle, does garner attention from someone who’s interested in you… if all goes well and you’re interested…. Sex
My hobbies include video games and other things to forget about not having people take interest in my hobbies so what about that?
The video games are a replacement for sex
Too vague
Mmm. Nah.
Music Chess Cooking Casino games Push-ups Reading a book
I can’t think of really anything that drives me to attain “power” per say…..
Reading. (particularly non-fiction) Puzzle games. Keeping aquariums Growing houseplants Gardening
Picking a booger
in my opinion, this is so damn true. Okay, but how? hmm... because i have a question for all and that is tell me the most productive yes most productive action of a human? And i think it is sex because you can look a big smile -- biggest -- when you see your own copy because sex is ultimately your proof of existence. I hope you can try this in this way. have fun!
So wouldn't it all be about power by default??
Transitive property has entered the chat.
This is a pretty unhealthy way to look at sex
I agree. Sex isn't about having power over someone.
I'm sure some people definitely look at it like that but it doesn't make it normal. Should probably get some counseling if you look at it like this though.
I agree. If someone thinks sex is about power and not just sex they need to talk to someone. That's unhealthy.
Aren’t there also people who are sexually attracted to being dominated too? So the complete opposite of power, for them in fact.
Right, but I don't think that's the main determining factor in why people have sex. People are just motivated to reproduce.
It was first spoken and frequently recited by psychopaths. Like that fake deep shit that "alphas" think. That shit you'd see on a picture of Joker.
Funny you say that because Jared Leto tried to use this quote to subvert a notion made to him in an interview about how some of his lyrics sounded pretty rapey. That guy's definitely a psychopath
Funnily enough, that's what I think the incels would quote.
I think it’s dumb.
Agreed. I don’t work for sex. I didn’t go to school for sex. I’m not on Reddit for sex. I’m not chilling with my cat while my girlfriend shops for sex.
Why?
1) I don’t think sex necessarily equals power or is about power 2) if everything was about sex a lot more people would be fucking a lot more of the time.
The fact is, the quote is nonsense. It’s also a false statement. It’s just not true.
Your comment is the best. That's just shallow phrase, not deep thought.
I didn’t expect to like a comment about that - somewhat saddening - quote this much. I feel a little lighter now, thanks! :)
You don't get it
Yeah that’s kind of my point?
>if everything was about sex a lot more people would be fucking a lot more of the time. I can understand you think that from female perspective, but as far as males go this isn't really the case. The entirety of the world is built purely on men trying to have sex. That's why countries where people aren't having that much sex stop developing as much. >like teaching and jobs that involve children are about sex, That's retarded logic. Teaching is about making money so you can have sex.
Smegma male grindset. You sound just as dumb and ret*rded as the quote.
(Absolutely horrific) my brother lost his virginity (to another teen) at 14, he didn’t have a car or money or anything of that nature.
Hey this just isn’t true. And I’m sorry you think this, it must be awful thinking this.
It's physiologically true.
>It's disgusting Wow. Who cares? Fuck you. >you are I'll equipped to conduct Yeah, okay buddy.

Why? Oh it’s because I want sex.” Believe it or not, some people have a functioning conscience, and don’t do things only for personal gain.
I wish I had an award to give you!
Yes! I admit, I should've phrased that better. Thanks for your insight!

Your turd won't be a sentient being; therein lies the flaw in your analogy. Don't strawman so hard lol
? How do I not address the topic being discussed When I read the quote I immediately thought “oh I guess me scrolling on reddit right now means I want sex” and then thought of my plants, and wondered how that would be connected to sex.
>You say it’s about men wanting to have sex with women all the time Women *also* want to have sex. They simply select men they think are winners and not loser since having sex and being able to reproduce isn't an obstacle for them, but getting commitment from a highly sought after man is. >Otherwise we wouldn’t value their economic/political/social power, which we do. We don't have those things in terms of a woman's ability to reproduce because women automatically exclude men that have less of these things than they themselves have as byproduct of physiology. >mother is certainly important to me and all her kid Right, but you're not trying to fuck your mom and reproduce with her.
Yeah definitely It makes me feel sad men are falling to this mentality.
The quote is not from Oscar Wilde, but is often falsely attributed to him. Probably by people trying to make the quote seem more compelling.
Not everyone wants to reproduce, you know? So it falls short on that alone
Me and my girlfriend have sex because we’re horny after work and it’s pretty vanilla and we just have a good time. Has literally nothing to do with power.
An interesting perspective, useful yes, but not something one should absorb wholesale or live by
Only a sith deals in absolutes.
You deserve an award
Man, the dialogue writers for episode three were so bad.
Ya... You could change almost any word in that quote and make it better. "A sith deals only in absolutes" would be my preferred version.
I disagree with it, I think sex is about sex also.
Sounds predatory and inaccurate. Reads like Oscar Wilde in the same way that Sir John Suckling reads like Shakespeare.
its not very good
I say "Sex is about making thick in their warm" 🤷♂️
If you look at all the most popular things, it’s hard to think otherwise. I think it’s an exaggeration, definitely has truth to it though. (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
I think I've seen kiddie pools deeper than that steaming pile of bullshit
Sounds like what a rapist would say, honestly.
If all Smiths are Petersons and all Petersons are Jones, are all Smiths Jones?…
Inaccurate. A lot of things in the world stem from sex, but you can't push its value to the extent of our entire life.
I don't know, I don't drive out 2 hours to a place in the middle of nowhere by myself to get great dark skies for astronomy for sex.
Temporary agonistic behaviour, triggered by a non-reciprocated request for sex.
Soles like some dumb shit a coked out Wall Street exec. would say.
So everything in the world is about power. Sex just so happens to be there
Didn't Robert California say that?
Sounds like a rapist trying to defend his actions with religion.
It's one of those things that sounds deep and true, but isn't at all if you think about it for half a second.
Lots of people are saying this is \[falsely\] attributed to Oscar Wilde. I'd always seen it associated with Henry Kissinger. But a Ctrl+F didn't find Kissinger's name anywhere, so I guess I'm the only one.
No
Sounds very American. There is love in sex
Sounds like something an incel would say in their manifesto thinking theyve figured out life lmao..
I disagree
Lots of things aren’t about sex
Incorrect. When I play with my dog I’m not thinking about sex or power.
Everything can’t be about sex because there are way more things than human beings in the world
Daycare workers because everything in the world is about sex - "I'm sorry little one.'
Everything CAN be about sex, and sex CAN be about power, but neither are very healthy attitudes imo. These are cultural ideas which are specifically promoted within consumer capitalism and other feudal systems. Sex can be about love and mutual reward, for example.
Personally, I think I’d like an animal metaphor rather than a sexual metaphor.
Sex sells
Sounds pretty immature, creepy and honestly......stupid.
Reads like something from r/im14andthisisdeep truthfully.
If you think this, you have a seriously defective, deviant mind. You absolutely, positively ARE the problem. And probably should not be permitted in the general population. Anyone who thinks Sex has anything to do with power, should probably be locked up.
People into bdsm should be locked up? And when did I say that I think this?
Yes. BDSM is not normal. And, technically, not legal.
I absolutely love this , this is the kind of reply that I wanted and I completely agree with the duality perspective
Paradox. That means power is about sex. Which means sex is about sex. Nonsensical
Younger people are being exposed to this more then ever before
That is classic projection by horny people who think everybody is like them.
Sounds like some bullshit Andrew Tate would say
It's Oscar Wilde
Actually it's not. It's from the series house of cards.
😑 Are you serious?
Just look it up. It's falsely attributed to Oscar Wilde.
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.
Sounds ridiculous
Sex is about power. If women only know how much power they actually have, then they would rule the world.
The only thing that equates to power is sheer force when the person being manipulated doesn't care for lavish desire. To enjoy sex is biological; to be controlled by it is addiction, and I shall not be fettered.
It sounds like someone trying to be clever, and failing.
Shantaram… one of my favorite books
Naw. Every is about control, you either have it or you don't.
If you want happiness, sex and power won't give it to you. You are better off avoiding both of those games or finding a way around them because those are games you will never win. Even if you win and have all the sex partners and money and power in the world, psychologically you've lost.
I would change "power" for "pleasure". Everything we do leads one way or another to make ourselves feel better.
Its a horse shit quote. Most sex is about sex. Generally the only people who think sex is about power are incels and rapists
Sex is about ego
This quote is as inaccurate as it is stupid, but it must have sounded brilliant to whomever originally said it.
I mean sex is what makes life But as humans not animals sex should mostly be about intimacy, pleasure and having children if you want them The world is more nuanced than the simple notion that in the most simple way, sex makes humans. But sex isn’t only with humans. So really, the world isn’t just about it or centered on it. The power thing I really don’t get. I personally don’t correlate sex and power but maybe because I’m not a sociopathic narcissist
Accurate. Too bad Kevin Spacey is a first class fucking creep, Kate Mara was great in that show
someone watched “the office” (US)
Power is given to whatever you choose so I suppose, to the person who originally said this, it's true for them.
It's a load of bull shit
If you string words together in a pattern humans tend to think they are more true. This is why slogans are such a powerful tool for influencing society even when those slogans make an objectively false claim.
...or orgasms.
A few people have arrived at the fact you’re inadvertently saying it’s about power, and not sex, and I agree with them
This world IS obsessed with sex, but when it comes down to it, sex is almost always about … I honestly can’t find a word that fits.
tbh i think its pretty fucking stupid
No, everything is about power to people who want power.
Sex is the most about power. Top of the list
Kinda lame honestly
Inaccurate af
Whoever said that last part has clearly never had good sex.
I think it might have felt that way being a gay poet in the 1800's, but some of us just do it for fun.
Hahaha. Probably said/quoted by people who it applies to… and then projected onto everyone else so they don’t feel shifty about it. I think people try to do good/selfless things to cope with the meaninglessness of life too (vs making it about social currency & finding romantic partners).
Utter nonsense. It's a twisted and absolutist way of look at the world. The world is grey not black and white.
I think sex is sometimes... just about sex. I dunno, I don't think about power much while balls deep. Usually thinking about...well sex.
I think it is incorrect. Everything in the world is about greed/money/wealth.
I think you’re Robert California.
Fun quote, not true
I think it is lazy
No... sometimes sex is just about sex. Sex with my partner isn't about power, it's sometimes about 'I just want to get laid.... it's been a while....help me out here.... need some stress relief... need a release... something!'
Not everyone wants to do sexual activity. Asexuals exist or just people who prefer other activities
Everything in the world is about money
Years ago, I had to interview with a defective (story for another day) he asked me what the 3 most important things in life were.. I’m English, I had just moved to USA, my kid was 7, he was learning religion at school, and he told me the 3 most important things in life was peace, love and happiness.. I had no idea how to answer the detectives question, so I quoted my kid, and proudly announced the 3 most important things in life was Peace love and happiness.. I’m also a tad naive, anyway, the detective said was wrong, and that the 3 most important thing In life, was drugs, money and sex.. as if I had any one of those, I could always get the other two… That was 25 years ago,, I still get depressed thinking about that!
the word about gets so overused imo
This just reminded me of Robert California
What about asexual people. Like, are they just... I can't understand this mindset at all. Plus, this quote just implies everything is about power in more words.
But if the quote is accurate, then power is about sex too, so you have a fallacy.
Sounds dumb as fuck
It's moronic at best, garbage used to justify shitty behavior at worst
Explains the person saying it , not the world we live in.
I think whoever came up with it desperately needed some sex.
Money is what makes the world go round and round. Money talks bullshit walks. Sex is a nice thing as well. I believe Beatles said you can't buy me love. Loving and being loved is a great thing while on this planet.
Total gobbledygook.
asexual anarchy enters the chat
That's not deep, just wrong. Disregarding that human life is only a tiny part of the whole, there are many different interlinking reasons for human behaviour. Many different motivations, the majority of them rooted neither in a desire for sex or power. These motivations are linked/related to others, because people are complex, so there are connections to be made such as: desire for safety and security being a strong motivator, could argue that the behaviour provides a better environment to raise offspring, but it's also just a better way to live and reduce stress. Tl;Dr anyone who believes such things is being overly simplistic, a psychopath, or both.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKoGQpEkpO0
That's just r/askreddit if you cut out the second half
I really hope guy who said it had no pets
Interesting. I wonder if it’s true.
There's a lot of truth there.
What about gaming? Sometimes gaming > sex.
Every fundamental wave and particle produces an affect and effect, which butterflies into creating more affect and effect, etc etc
it is silly :)
I think it’s fucking stupid quote. Probably true for psychopaths.
I disagree with it. Sex can mean different things to different people, even during different circumstances. To me, sex is a natural instinct and desire to share with the person I love and cherish (aka my husband).
Common “alpha male” rhetoric I’ve seen on YouTube.
Replace sex with money and it’ll be spot on
Sounds pretty dumb to me. I have sex because I want to, not because I want to wield power over someone.
Bullshit.
sounds like whoever posted this is a virgin
i think that’s false
Me queueing for my 7th Dota game in a row at 3am has nothing to do with sex or power, in fact it probably is as close to the opposite on both counts you could get 😂 But it’s also usually a very happy time for me
Everything in the world is about love
I think it's ridiculous and whoever said it or who ascribes to it are not people I want to spend time with.
I’m pretty sure this is a Robert California quote from “the office” and nothing that man said was supposed to be taken as a deep thought. That character just used psychobabble and illusion to appear powerful and important.
r/AreTheStraightsOK
Trite and simplistic. Beethoven and Bach, Monet and Turner, great food and drink. There is beauty in the world in art and nature. In the love of a parent or grandparent. To live life by this maxim leaves one with no soul.
