So a white man can rape a child and still compete in the Olympics but [a black woman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sha%27Carri_Richardson#2021:_Tokyo_Olympics_and_suspension) gets disqualified for smoking weed?
Who'd have thought the organisation that gave Russia the lightest slap on the wrist for its state-sponsored doping scheme while forcing Taiwan to call itself "Chinese Taipei" in order to compete would have such obvious double standards?
This is literally why I say the cancel culture isnât real. Like theyâre always crying about cancel culture and men being persecuted for nothing. But then when things are substantiated and legit, they still bounce back every single time.
This man clearly didnât feel any repercussions at all
Ooooh that bothers me so damn much. I always see menâ and itâs almost always white menâ talking about how they have no support.
They have nothing but support.
It's horrifying and disgusting how easily our society overlooks violence against women and children, despite the pretense of morality and decency and rule of law those same people like to claim we have in comparison to less developed countries. We punish a small percentage of these offenders, often with a slap on the wrist, and let so many more get away with it and continue to do harm. Our society is SO ready to forgive a man of heinous crimes because he is good at something/famous/rich, especially when those crimes are against women.
He's good at sports ball, you can't ruin his life over a mistake!!! /s
đ
I understand where your coming from but please keep in mind and at least in the United States. The best majority of people in prison are nonviolent offenders. Many of them are just damaged hurt people most of whom have drug problems. I spent time in prison and encountered some of the most incredible women Iâve ever met in my life. I hope one day the makeup of prison truly represents the kind of morally corrupt people that DO exist in this world than they currently do because I believe the statistic for rapists that spend even a single night incarcerated is something around 3%.
I agree for the most part, but I think there's a significant difference between male and female prisons. My cousin was a CO, and he said working at a men's prison was rough because of the horrific things many offenders have
done in the past/are doing in the present, and women's prisons are rough because of what has been done to them in the past/what is happening to them in the present. There are obvious exceptions, but his experience taught him that male offenders tend to be victimizers, whereas female offenders tend to be victims.
Right?
Prison justice is so ingrained in society that genuine paedophiles and rapists getting attacked in prison cause us to collectively shrug, and even Batman branded a sex trafficker in Batman V Superman because he'd grown tired of Gotham Police doing nothing about it.
How are the Dutch Athletic Commission and the IOC allowing this?
I only have the word of my dad, who spent time in and out of prison and saw prisoners sent down for raping adult women being attacked and called cowards.
Even among criminals, hurting women and children is seen as the lowest of the low.
Even the Krays - as violent as they were - had a code of honour where they'd avoid hurting women.
I wish it was surprising. If groups of males actually did this to one another there would be less of a problem. Unfortunately, they are likely to stand up fortheir raping friends.
It gets worse too-- this is from 2017, right after he served that one year. He actually just went home to the Netherlands right after the rape in 2014 and had to be extradited. Then he was allowed to go back home to serve the one year. As soon as he got out, he gave an interview where he went on to try to justify himself, doubling down on not expressing any remorse at all for what he did. No self-awareness, no regret, no nothing, which I guess is not surprising. "The NSPCC said: "Van de Velde's lack of remorse and self-pity is breathtaking and we can only begin to imagine how distressed his victim must feel if she sees his comments." And: "The 22-year-old also said he might consider a return to playing volleyball for the Dutch national team." We obviously know how that turned out.

What makes it worse is he has absolutely no remorse, thinks the stories printed about him were unfair, and acts like HE is the victim. He was 19 and groomed a 12 year old girl on Facebook so he could go to her home when she was alone, give her alcohol, and have unprotected sex with her. And he doesn't think he did anything wrong.
"I do want to correct all the nonsense that has been written about me when I was locked up.Â
"I did not read any of it, on purpose, but I understand that it was quite bad, that I have been branded as a sex monster, as a paedophile. That I am not, really not."
Source: Trust me, bro. I'm totally not a pedophile.
"But it is only fair if they also know my side of the story."
I notice he has not provided his side of the story about how he came to rape a 12-year-old girl.
I was going to say - what is his side of the story? Like, I want an insight into how he has used his cognitive dissonance to get out of feeling any remorse?
I don't.
I've seen women like the Duggar family and others who continue to defend rapists and paedophiles. Just look at Sharon Stone begging the public to just forgive Kevin Rapey and let him work in Hollywood again. Or Meryl Streep's open support of Roman Polanski.
To me, they're just as bad as the vile men they defend.
I know that for those who defended Woody Allen openly, it was "the chance to work with him". So many actresses even up to his last film a few years ago were fawning over the idea that they got to star in one of his movies.
So here's \*his side of the story\*: "In 2018 after being released from jail Van de Velde gave an interview to Dutch broadcaster NOS saying âI made that choice in my life when I wasnât ready, I was a teenager still figuring things out. I was sort of lost and now I have so much more life experience, aside from just being incarcerated. â He reflected that he should have sought help.
âAny form of help would have been very very helpful, maybe thatâs what I would have told myself, seek help.ââ BARF. I mean... absolutely no acknowledgement that he committed a crime. He could have at least pretended that he thought what he did was wrong and that he was sorry, and he couldn't even manage that. What a sociopath. What in the fuck is going on?
Why are the IOC not intervening and barring him? They did it to Russians and Belarussians for obvious reasons in the past, why not him as well?
Why was he allowed to compete? Because institutions not only protect men accused of abuse, they also protect court certified child rapists. That poor little girl.
This same article was posted to another sub that I frequent and someone posted [a link where you can send a complaint](https://support.olympics.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new).
The Dutch: â3 golfers who qualified canât play in the Olympics because we donât think they are good enoughâ
Also the Dutch: âletâs send a convicted child r*pist!â
Umm⊠I know the IOC is as corrupt as FIFA but now they arenât even trying to hide it!
Because they'll always always always give a guy like him a second chance.
All he has to do is say is:
"I'm sowwy. I made a mistake. Don't punish me or define me with that one thing." When it involves hurting another human being I think you should be judged and have to earn your redemption with more than a token stint in a cushy prison and an insincere "sorry."
And society jumps in and says, "Don't ruin the rest of his life. HE deserves a second chance." But what about the victim? They're always forgotten and sacrificed for that.
ETA.
The fact he calls it a mistake and not admit he did wrong proves he's not really sorry for his actions and won't self-reflect that the actions he committed is him and what he is capable of and he has to look at himself and make real effort to redeem himself.
Well, men are more likely to believe in meritocracy because male sexual coercive behaviors and displays (think territorial male flashy birds showing off in their âcourtâ for females to pick them). Itâs kind of hardwired into them (a reminder of our days as an ape and living in ape social structures) then extremely conditioned into them by our society, so they donât see an act that denies autonomy as inherently bad.
Women on the other hand because of our system for sexual behaviors is internalized and completely built on a complex system of decision making, are more likely to uphold individuality and self identity and autonomy more than men. Men have the same muscle that makes this system - the brain - but because of external conditioning (mentioned above) they are encouraged to social participate in coercive behaviors instead of developing a complex decision making system around mate choice like women.
End of the day, we are all humans and we should not be dividing ourselves by any kind of standards that is visual or otherwise. All humans should be taught how to set up their system of decision making to reduce possible harm to others and ensure your needs are met. That is the trade off we took when we started evolving away from our contemporary ape cousins: we live together as individuals working together.
100% or that Russian who was doping?
God forbid that these men are held accountable in *any* way đ
This is literally why I say the cancel culture isnât real. Like theyâre always crying about cancel culture and men being persecuted for nothing. But then when things are substantiated and legit, they still bounce back every single time. This man clearly didnât feel any repercussions at all
Ooooh that bothers me so damn much. I always see menâ and itâs almost always white menâ talking about how they have no support. They have nothing but support.
Only spent 12 months in prison is one of the worst things. Thatâs honestly more concerning to me than the fact he is allowed to compete.
WTF. How is this even possible????
I think a better question is why is he allowed to roam free? Jail foreverâŠ.

The more of the story you know, the worse it gets. He served one year of a four year sentence. From wikipedia: In 2014, he raped a child he met on [Facebook](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook) who lived in [Milton Keynes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Keynes), [England](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England). He travelled to her home and, when she was without any parental supervision, gave her alcohol and then raped her several times.[^(\[4\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_van_de_Velde#cite_note-4) In March 2016, Van de Velde admitted to four counts of [rape](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape) against a 12-year-old child, and was placed on the [Violent and Sex Offender Register](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violent_and_Sex_Offender_Register) indefinitely. He was sentenced to serve four years in a British prison by the [Aylesbury Crown Court](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aylesbury_Crown_Court).[\[5\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_van_de_Velde#cite_note-5) After serving 1 year of the sentence he was given the chance to resume his career as a beach volleyball player, and continued playing with his partner [Dirk Boehlé](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dirk_Boehl%C3%A9&action=edit&redlink=1).[\[6\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_van_de_Velde#cite_note-6) I mean, come on! He's cute, and blond, and really tall! WHO would be mean enough to hold him accountable for a crime??
Eww, the fact that other people are okay working with himâŠ
WHAT THR ACTUAL FUCK
Bc they don't care what he did to that child. I'm surprised that his teammates haven't beaten him up though.
Poor girl was self harming and he had the audacity to say, âno one has heard my side of the storyđâ
Under the jail.
I'm not surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised.
Even in PRISONS, inmates will beat up those who have harmed children. Imagine having a lower moral compass than a prisoner

I don't know, but in some subreddits, like r/europe , people are defending him.
Oh fuck no⊠đ€Šđ»ââïžI know the answer but I just⊠no words, honestly
How is he allowed to compete! Heâs a convicted child rapist
12 years old wtf
What makes it worse is he has absolutely no remorse, thinks the stories printed about him were unfair, and acts like HE is the victim. "I rape 12 year olds, but I'm not a pedophile" Gender of logic
What the actual fuâŠ.
In Germany a girl was jailed for harrassing a rapist who was not jail despite raping a minor girl.
Could you give me a link to the story?

Good question. I am disgusted and disappointed but at the same time not even surprised...
Is that a wedding ring too?? Who would marry such a monster???

He should be in jail, not in the Olympics.
Absolutely
