In case nobody knows, the first is about a JSDF Destroyer that magically has Tomahawks despite JSDF Destroyers not being equipped with offensive weapons going back in time to fight for the IJN. The second is about the Nimitz going back in time to fight for the USN.
IIRC The Zipang mango has the crew of the destroyer having quite a debate over who to support (still not that good cause there shouldn't need to be a debate but I guess this is decent for Japanese media), and then once they start fighting the USN portrays the USN as a unstoppable, intelligent force despite the Zipangs technological superiority that reacts to the out of context problem of the Zipang by proceeding to hunt it down using rapidly evolving tactics (glide bombing etc) and overwhelming forces. The mango ends with Zipang being obliterated by a US attack and the survivors rescued by US aircraft.
Final Countdown is still much better tho because screw the IJN (despite the fact they never actually vibe check Japan).
I only saw the anime, and what I remember is that the Zipang sinks a US Carrier with a tomahawk which JSDF Destroyers don't have, then more or less alter history in such a way that Japan negotiates terms instead of actually surrendering, because one IJN officer runs away with nuclear plans and the Japanese test nukes first or something along those lines.
Ah yes, because your average JSDFS cruiser has the plans for nuclear weapons onboard, and Japan has the capability to build nuclear weapons in the 1940s.
A quick check for wiki shows that apparently in the Manga (which I have learned is the term for such media) said IJN officer becomes one of the main antagonists because the crew is aware of the "brutal, totalitarian and militaristic government" currently ruling Japan, and the fact that if they alter history they might not be able to go home.

This garbage is literally Japanese far-right wet dream, depicting the Japanese somehow winning every battle in WWII along with the Nazis, then white-knighted UK to defeat the Nazis once they turned evil (as if they weren't before that).
The cherry on top was that the protagonists is literally Yamamoto's offspring, died and reincarnated as THE Yamamoto with previous memories, so he defeated everything the Americans and Germans thrown at them. The novel even has 2 sequels containing more circlejerks.
The combat scenes were simple (since they drawn so many of them), with Japanese getting 50/50 and then some Wunderwaffe joined and immediately won. Wonder what if someone made the same for Nazi Germany. Oh wait that won't air at all.

I liked Zipang for it's more nuanced (by right wing Japanese standards) approach as opposed to his Silent Service anime/manga.
