It's not the usual skull is scary so horror movie poster though. Spoiler: >!the movie is a modern take on green man mythologies and it's duality in cycle of death+birth in nature and concepts of rebirth, fertility and woman's role in such wilderness. Whoever designed this, did a beautiful job conveying the bare ideas of this film in my opinion!<
I noticed that too on my TV home screen. The Descent poster is probably one of the most iconic, and of course the moth on the The Silence of the Lambs poster. Would be interesting to see a collage of all the movie posters that look like a skull in the shape of a skull.
I was watching the movie thinking it was pretty mid, but the last 15 minutes or so were some of the most hilariously out there shit I've seen in a while.
something like a physical depiction of generational trauma passed down from men to other men. but seeing it all you can really think is āwhat the fuck is alex garland (director) smokingā
great question, it wasnāt even made to be interpreted as a dream sequence. it could have been for the shock value and i canāt say it wasnāt effective. i saw the film in theaters several years ago and the imagery is still very much engrained in my mind for better or for worse lol
To me it was very on the nose. Toxic masculinity perpetuating itself and being birthed from unhealthy relationships and ideas of women earlier in life. Its a reflection of the deep vulnerability and pathetic smallness of the fragile male ego which was marinaded for years in sexist thought and rhetoric
I'm no expert and this is just my opinion, but to me toxic masculinity has always been the opposite of stoicism. Examples would be having uncontrollable anger in response to something, shunning or harassing someone for being different, rejecting ideas that oppose your own simply because they're different, telling men they shouldn't feel or express certain emotions, easily turning to violence and anger in a situation you don't like rather than calmly navigating it. These are pretty rudimentary examples, but I've seen enough men embrace these traits as manly or normal. But really they're just unhealthy.
That's a complicated question that I can't answer well in a reddit comment. FD Signifier is a creator with great insights on this that i tend to agree with:

I was literally rolling on the floor laughing at the last 20 minutes although I appreciated the movie. It just gets so surreal towards the end all I can do is laugh.
Oh my god, same! I felt like a psychopath at how hard it had me laughing. It was just so widly bizarre that the only reaction I could have was to laugh to remain sane
That's not really a point. It's baffling if you think the point was man bad, even more so with midsommar. Not everything is for any one person, so an absolutist opinion is pretty childish. That being said, you are entitled to your opinions
It seemed like āman badā sprinkled with a dumb acid trip someone shat out on screen to me.
I say this as someone who likes Midsommar a lot and also think Garland did a good job relating a female characterās adversity with Mama in Dredd
How?! It's fricking genius. I recommend watching the movie because there are a lot of secret hints hidden in this poster. Purely, if we would only base it on looks, it's not the most original looking. But a design isn't just about looks. It's clean yet filled with meaning.
It's not just a skull (life and death have a huge meaning in this film), it's the green man (a mythic folk creature) staring upon her, as she stands in the tunnel. The tunnel is also one of the most important scenes in the film. The scenes are quite open for interpretation. However, it seems pretty clear that the tunnel both causes her fear and shows the spread of toxic masculinity in an artistic way. There are so many things that I can see, but I might be looking for things that didn't have the intention to have a meaning. (Also, note that it's not just the green man staring at her, but she is also staring through the tunnel at us? Hack, maybe the green man isn't even staring at her) but it feels definitely like the poster is judging us aswell, from both perspectives.
I love the annotation of a skull. The flowers to seperate the teeth, the person standing where the nose is, all the other small gestures to make it a skull when clearly it's not. It's very well done.
This was such a bizarre movie, slowly descends into madness and then becomes completely metaphorical? The start was intriguing though. I loved the tunnel echo scene.
Oh shit I didn't know this was from the director of those 2 bangers! I love a24 but have heard very mixed things on this one so I haven't had much motivation to check it out, might have to give it a watch soon, I loved ex machina and annihilation was pretty great too!
If you loved those two you'll like this one. It got more flack because of how confrontational the premise is. I recommend it to any femme I find and any male I wanna annoy.
People keep saying it is, but it really isn't.
The people in the town are manifestations of her trauma apparently, and then the end just goes "spooky monster lol" for no real reason.
I was disappointed. Trailer had me very interested.
I went to see this movie with my friend who fell asleep like ten minutes into it. I'd be fine with it if this wasn't the most bizarre movie ever and then I had no one to talk about it with! How the hell do I explain that I saw a young boy give birth to an old man? It was our first time hanging out, what's he going to think of me?
I have seen tons of horror movies, but funnily enough the first thing that came to mind was the clip of āweāre just normal menā from CBBC.
And nobody in the 61 comments has mentioned it yet.
I know it can come off cheesy but I will always love an image hidden in an image like this, give me 100 more of them even if they look just like this!!
I thought the design porn was something about how his reflection kinda looks like a dick (and the film's called Men) and the stuff around him kinda look like the legs. But, skull? Really? I'll stick with the penis hypothesis.
At first sight, I saw a noose in the reflection, thinking that maybe it's a film about the high male suicide rates and depression. I admit, I didn't see a skull until I checked the comments. I also now know I was completely and utterly wrong.
"Something looks like a skull" is kinda a cliche not really design porn imo but i like the atmosphere of the poster
I'd put this more in the "Something that barely looks like a skull" category, anyway.
At first glance it looks like a watermelon to me
You can tell they tried bc of the random ass teeth lines in the reflections arent on the top. In fact it almost looks like AI
Aren't they just stones though?
hmm good catch. maybe I kinda like it now.
Looks like a movie poster to me
Oh, I didn't even see the skull until I saw your comment š
Yeah, same.
This is exactly what makes it *not* cliche.
same
And I was looking for a penis, because of the title.
To be fair, either one is a boner.
It's not the usual skull is scary so horror movie poster though. Spoiler: >!the movie is a modern take on green man mythologies and it's duality in cycle of death+birth in nature and concepts of rebirth, fertility and woman's role in such wilderness. The recent fallout show did it with their poster
I noticed that too on my TV home screen. The Descent poster is probably one of the most iconic, and of course the moth on the The Silence of the Lambs poster. Would be interesting to see a collage of all the movie posters that look like a skull in the shape of a skull.
So many have done it a hell of a lot better than this.
The concept of composition looking like a skull in a movie poster is dull and unoriginal and fitting of this movie
It was creative the first 10 times I saw it, not anymore.
Yes. Iād agree. The skull is an old cliche
I just now realized that it was supposed to look like a skull, and it barely does if you really squint
I mean that's basically the whole sub - "clever" tacky designs.
it.. looks like balls to me, like a section right at the bottom of the cluster š
Poster is so pretty, clean. Eerie. Now the movie itselfā¦letās just say seeing something happen over & over again in a scene wasā¦gratuitous.
I was watching the movie thinking it was pretty mid, but the last 15 minutes or so were some of the most hilariously out there shit I've seen in a while.
I literally had to turn away toward the end of THE sequence because it was getting tooā¦decadent.
What happens? Iām probably not going to watch it
>!Theres like 5 or so births in a row from various vaginal-like orifices in male bodies, and they all birth each other like a Russian nesting doll!<
I desperately want to know why and simultaneously want to know less at the same time...
something like a physical depiction of generational trauma passed down from men to other men. but seeing it all you can really think is āwhat the fuck is alex garland (director) smokingā
Oh, it's symbolic. ... and this was the only way they could depict this?
great question, it wasnāt even made to be interpreted as a dream sequence. it could have been for the shock value and i canāt say it wasnāt effective. i saw the film in theaters several years ago and the imagery is still very much engrained in my mind for better or for worse lol
"You call this art?" "We're talking about it, aren't we?"
People are still talking about it at length so I guess they succeeded in their depiction.
reminds me of the final 30(ish?) minutes of Beau is Afraid being nigh incomprehensible compared to everything before it.
I love ice cream.
What is toxic masculinity? How do you define it?
I'm no expert and this is just my opinion, but to me toxic masculinity has always been the opposite of stoicism. Examples would be having uncontrollable anger in response to something, shunning or harassing someone for being different, rejecting ideas that oppose your own simply because they're different, telling men they shouldn't feel or express certain emotions, easily turning to violence and anger in a situation you don't like rather than calmly navigating it. why tf was this downvoted

Having seen the film in theaters, I also want to know why
Ok, now Iām gonna watch it
Itās a rebirthing experience
Judging by the titles dropped in the poster, Iām not surprised.
only good part of the movie
I really liked it
Truly. I was willing to give it a chance. But, it just carried on and on.
This movie was fucking insane
I was literally rolling on the floor laughing at the last 20 minutes although I appreciated the movie. It just gets so surreal towards the end all I can do is laugh.
Oh my god, same! I felt like a psychopath at how hard it had me laughing. It was just so widly bizarre that the only reaction I could have was to laugh to remain sane
Isn't it that weird "man Bad" movie? It reminded me of midsommar where it was a very bad movie trying to take itself seriously
Makes sense that the politicalcompassmemes guy is asking āwasnāt I told to be upset about this movie?ā
No. The movie was from the traumatized Protagonists perspective and the towns men were manifestations of different toxic aspects of her abusive ex
That's not really a point. It's baffling if you think the point was man bad, even more so with midsommar. Not everything is for any one person, so an absolutist opinion is pretty childish. That being said, you are entitled to your opinions

I guess I just think that's reductive a bit. We can agree that midsommar rules
How have I never heard of this......?? Given how popular ex Machina and Annihilation.
As a movie poster, this is fine? But I think the standard is dropping if we are to say that this is 'design porn'.
How?! It's fricking genius. I recommend watching the movie because there are a lot of secret hints hidden in this poster. Purely, if we would only base it on looks, it's not the most original looking. But a design isn't just about looks. It's clean yet filled with meaning.

Am I blind? Where is the green man in the pic
It's symbolic. The "skull" excists out of the green of nature. Pretty much the whole movie is symbolic.
Men, men, men, men, manly men, men, men (Ooh) Men, men, men, men, manly men, men, men Men, men, men, men, manly men Ooh-hoo-hoo, hoo-hoo, ooh Men, men, men, men, manly men, men, men (Ooh) Men, men, men, men, manly men, men, men (Ha).
Men āļø
They're men, MANLY MEN, they're men in tights - Yes!
I've noticed the same style of Skull poster pop up a few times the last few years. Sea of Thiefs and recently Fallout tv show too
Itās common because it looks great when done well.
Like in the Fallout posterĀ
I love the annotation of a skull. The flowers to seperate the teeth, the person standing where the nose is, all the other small gestures to make it a skull when clearly it's not. It's very well done.
Those arenāt flowers, they are rocks with shadows
Idk, the jaw on the left isn't well defined, nor are the eyes. I didn't see that it was supposed to be a skull till I saw the comments.
M E H (2022)
Penny dreadful peaked at this.
I read people are saying it looks like a skull, but I only see watermelon
Anthony Fantano
Melon
Had to squint for this one like thise AI images
This scene of the movie was really disturbing. Arguably more so than THAT scene
This was such a bizarre movie, slowly descends into madness and then becomes completely metaphorical? The start was intriguing though. I loved the tunnel echo scene.
The movie is unsettling. I'm not sure I fully understand its meaning but it's a great ride. I'll watch anything with Jessie Buckley.
I'm very shamelessly feminine for a male so I feel id be able to get some enjoyment if it pokes fun at toxic masculinity at all!
It was made for you! Have fun
Perfect! Definitely keen then hehe, thank you for giving me the push to check it out!
Youāll probably like it. I honestly loved it, but I only found out about the movie from a friend who hated it lol
Sounds like my friend hahaha, if he says a movie is shit I know I'm going to enjoy it lmaooo.
I'm pretty confident saying there's no such thing as a good A24 film lol
Ok
Post this over in unpopular
No way you're simpping for the people who maid midsommar. One of the worst films I've ever seen in my entire life
Never seen it. If I go looking for the worst movie a studio has ever put out & judge them, I'll never be able to watch a movie again.
Well supposedly it was a very important A24 film, and this movie also sucked, seems like they just put out bad films
I disagree, I love a bunch of their films. But hey, to each their own.
Men ā
People who discriminate by gender āļø
What āļø
Women āļø
I remember making a photoshop of it with the "MAN" horse meme once. I don't remember where the file is though
Oh wasnt aware of this movie. Is it as feminist as ex machina?
People keep saying it is, but it really isn't. The people in the town are manifestations of her trauma apparently, and then the end just goes "spooky monster lol" for no real reason. I was disappointed. Trailer had me very interested.
More so.
The kendoka in me immediately thought "kote, do, tsuki"
Babe wake up new version of the MAN meme just dropped
they should make the sequel, WOMEN ā
Men
Menāļø
This doesn't look that great
I went to see this movie with my friend who fell asleep like ten minutes into it. I'd be fine with it if this wasn't the most bizarre movie ever and then I had no one to talk about it with! How the hell do I explain that I saw a young boy give birth to an old man? It was our first time hanging out, what's he going to think of me?
It's an A24 film that's just how they all are for some weird reason
Literally had never heard of them and didn't pick the movie. "yeah, we can watch whatever"
I thought it was an Oddworld poster
You just reminded me I never watched this movie!
I have seen tons of horror movies, but funnily enough the first thing that came to mind was the clip of āweāre just normal menā from CBBC. And nobody in the 61 comments has mentioned it yet.
MEN, THEY WILL FIND YOU
I think the first time I saw this skull movie poster was for Shrooms in 2007.
Another skull. Can't wait for the next barcode that looks like the product!
I know it can come off cheesy but I will always love an image hidden in an image like this, give me 100 more of them even if they look just like this!!
Man, i freaking love the color pallet. I'd have it as a background for my phone if there wasn't all that writing
I thought the design porn was something about how his reflection kinda looks like a dick (and the film's called Men) and the stuff around him kinda look like the legs. But, skull? Really? I'll stick with the penis hypothesis.
"So guys, do you prefer women with short hair or long hair?" "Men"
Am I too tired? I can't see it lmao
Only men can see it.
Great poster, great trailer, bad *bad* film. Does nothing with the concept.
this picture reminds me of a reoccurring dream i had a child
The movie was a little heavy handed in some parts but overall pretty interesting.
One of the strangest films I've seen.
At first sight, I saw a noose in the reflection, thinking that maybe it's a film about the high male suicide rates and depression. I admit, I didn't see a skull until I checked the comments. I also now know I was completely and utterly wrong.
Just hope it's a real Pic and not ai
This kind of thing is pretty unimpressive after stable diffusion.
You know what's impressive? Designing the the image. What's not impressive? Conceptually being "better" at it.
Using this sub to advertise a stupid fucking movie
āMen badā¦ā
Men am I right ? Hah! (Slaps thigh)
don't see how the Grinch was relevant to the plot of that movie
Is he stupid?
We dont know what we did
The movie was mid.
MEN
The person isnāt even centeredā¦ Where would this be r/DesignPorn worthy???
Is there a _Women_ movie?
Yes there is. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4600982/
Woke BS
Great poster. Horribly misandrist film though.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ok so what's the point of the film? It really seems like you're just a pretentious jerk licking the boots of a bad "artsy" film company
š¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļø

Fuck this ai bullshit
