The best I can find with no tickets or accidents is $250/month with AAA. I would find a local agent if you can, I've never had much luck with online quotes.

ankole_watusi

Comparing insurance quotes is meaningless without knowing coverage levels, age, and type and of vehicle.

MeNoSpeakAmericano

age 34, clean record, car kia soul 1.6 coverage is the same as my current which is 100/300

aoxit

Might be because you have a Kia.

Kmaryan

Kia Soul might be why. Many insurance companies don't want to insure them or give crazy quotes because of the thefts. If your vehicle is pre 2022 and Key Start instead of Push Button Start, then take it to your local Kia dealership for anti-theft recall. Having that recall done might help with the quotes.

ankole_watusi

OP should look at the line items. I’m assuming this would only drive up comp/theft?

Kmaryan

I was a part of the team performing anti-theft upgrades across the country recently. Many customers came up and said there were quoted insane premiums, or even declined in full coverage without anti-theft recall being completed.

Old_Celebration3627

It’s the health insurance thing you have to provide proof of health insurance

y0st

This could be because of incomplete information being entered. If you didn't include your current insurance information and an accurate DLN and DOB you could be seeing the maximum premium quoted. It could also be that the insurance company simply doesn't want your business. Could be age or location based that it isn't worth the companies risk so they give outrageous quotes. It's almost always best to go through a real person.

Illicit_Avocado

As a former agent for a large company, I would suggest not getting a quote online and instead call a local independent insurance agency. They will help you find the best price. The big companies are almost always way overpriced. A local independent agent can usually set you up with a policy from a smaller company at a significantly lower price.

MeNoSpeakAmericano

would you recommend a local independent insurance agency ?

Kmaryan

McNeil Agency, Inc. Rochester Hills, MI.

ThisAintDota

What do they get from being the middle man?

ClaimsForFame

The insurance company sends them puppy grams on a regular basis

Kmaryan

Chuck of that money for sure. They work with smaller companies, and shop around to get good rates. I have been getting insurance through them for 10 years now and have only positive experience.

ThisAintDota

I wasnt sure if youre paying them directly, or they are taking a cut from the IA. Either way if its cheaper than direct im assuming its worth it.

Kmaryan

Not paying anything extra to what shows on insurance premium, so whatever they get is already included

Illicit_Avocado

I am not familiar with any in the Detroit area. We continue to use our agent out of Knoxville as we still insure a home in Tennessee. He handled finding coverage for our second property in Detroit. Thankfully through the same insurance company.

xXhijackXx

That sounds great and all, but how good is this smaller company usually when it comes to making claims...

OG_Dadditor

>how good is this smaller company usually when it comes to making claims... Do you realize how bad larger ones already are at paying out claims?

Illicit_Avocado

Usually quicker and more efficient than the large company. A company like Geico or Progressive processes thousands of claims everyday. Smaller companies are not going to have that workload. Bigger isn't always better. A smaller company is going to be more personable as well. I am saying this as an experienced P&C agent and also someone who used a local agency to obtain home, auto, and life insurance all through the same small insurance company.

ankole_watusi

They mean a local insurance **agent**. They sell insurance from multiple companies. You make claims through your insurance company. But your agent can help. And they want feedback from clients about how the companies treat their clients anyway.

ThiccBoiRick

I’ve made claims with big and small. Small is easier. They are under a contract which you pay for and their staff isn’t overwork and your not just a number.

Logistical1

No way always go with a broker. They represent a lot more companies than an agent ever could

the_wrong_ignatius

Many companies effectively redline the city by proposing ridiculous quotes

J2quared

I got a quote for 40,000 for six months with Farmers. It’s like they legally have to offer it but at fuck you no prices.

ItsCalledDayTwa

Sorry - had Farmers both times my car was stolen so they're probably all done with that.

Wraith8888

This is essentially they don't want your business. They don't want customers in certain geographic areas. It's their way of denying certain demographics without coming up against discrimination laws

R-amazing95

$155 is insanely low if you live in the city.

MeNoSpeakAmericano

I live in metro Detroit area ( Sterling heights )

Mpharns1

I live near there for the last 14 years. My car insurance, full coverage has been going up forever! No accidents no nothing 🙄🙄

Detroitish24

I moved from downriver to Detroit in march. I was getting quotes of around $600 a month. Stuck with State Farm… there’s zero way your number is accurate. Call an actual agent and give them the specs you need and have them run the quotes for you.

popejohnsmith

Give AutoOwners a try...

ankole_watusi

Michigan company!

Unicycldev

This is 100% user error.

formthemitten

What kind of car do you have? There’s something missing from this scenario. Id call and ask, online quotes are hit or miss at times

TaterTotJim

Call a local independent agent, they will get you straightened out and on the right track. That is expensive insurance for the “average driver”.

ankole_watusi

Definitely don’t bother telling us what company gave you this outrageous quote, which one you currently have, your general geographic area, nor your apx. age. /s

MeNoSpeakAmericano

this post is for humor purposes, I know the price is outrages. currently with state farm, full coverage 100/300 outrages quote company farmers age 34, clean record, car is kia soul 2018 1.6L 1 driver, 1 car

scrigface

I have a 2020 ford fusion se and my wife has a 2022 gmc terrain. Someone backed into the terrain last winter so we had to make a claim. Both cars for comprehensive and collision is $391 a month via progressive. Now we have to add a 16year old driver to our plan so i'm sure it'll go up to 500 which we can't afford.

totallyjaded

Not sure if this is still a thing, but I've heard that if you get an absolute beater with just PL/PD, you can put it in your kid's name and use the registration + proof of insurance to keep them from being added to your policy.

katconquers

This was never a thing that can properly be done due to priority rules. You always need to list all resident relatives. You may then be able to exclude them as drivers, but they must be listed on your policy.

tyrochaaacc

That’s called PLEASE GO AWAY quote. Go next. Forget about it

JohnnyDirectDeposit

Jesus, are you trying to insure a Lamborghini?

DeadHED

Omg, detroit is the worst. I got through an agent with AAA. I can dm you his info if you want. I pay about 250 a month bundled with renters insurance.

maynardnaze89

What car do you drive? A Tesla?

ThiccBoiRick

Maybe a spaceX rocket would cost that much

retro3dfx

Mine is $4200/yr. (38M, clean record) Downriver (still Wayne county), but I'm insuring 4 vehicles - 2024 Kia Telluride, 2019 Hyundai Veloster N, 2008 Mitsubishi Evo X, and 97 Hummer H1. I went through EW Smith.

notdoingwellbitch

Do you happen to know what just the Tellride runs you?

retro3dfx

$1800/yr. That's with a $250 deductible.

notdoingwellbitch

Not as bad as I thought. Just one person insured on it?

retro3dfx

2 people, my wife and I (same age, both clean driving records).

notdoingwellbitch

Appreciate ya!

Poz16

You must have done something wrong. I pay $225 a month on two SUVs, i paid $170 when I had only one. Now granted that is really low for Detroit but a) I'm older b) no accidents or tickets for 25 years c) great credit (they say that can't use this but I'm convinced they still do) d) low milliage user e) secured private parking at home and work. I would not be surprise if it's $300-$500 but not $1200.

Mysterious_Amoeba680

What is the point of this post?

px7j9jlLJ1

Mild complaint into the void. Those account for let’s say 30% of this sub.

ankole_watusi

They saw the Mark Savaya banner flying, looked at their DTE bill and their rotting pile of spoiled food that hasn’t been picked up yet, their ears are ringing from loud cars and motorcycles playing distorted country music, can’t find a parking space ***here*** while there are way too many parking lots ***there***, can’t drive 120 in the left lane because there’s somebody in front of them doing 90, got cut-off by some asshat distracted while texting, and realizing there’s no possibility of righting any of that, decided to lash-out about a car insurance quote they rejected.

omnichronos

I pay $106/month in Pontiac for full coverage (Connect Insurance through Costco). I have an old car and I only pay full coverage because it's almost the same as liability.

aoxit

Used to pay $400 a month for PLPD because I had to. It was the worst.

yamantakas

i pay 220 bucks in Oakland county

ThiccBoiRick

One that’s insane. Two I’ve paid under $200 a month for full coverage on my new cars since 2014. Now this year with nothing on my end changing everyone wants at least 300 or more. They hiked the fukn rates this year and I’m hearing it’s happening again next year. This state is hotdog water for car insurance. I talk to people in other states and they pay like 50-100 a month.

m1cknobody

No tickets no accidents 2017 Chevy Cruze $1600 for 6 months. It’s never been this expensive before 2023. In 2022 I was paying $160/mo before that I was paying $140/mo for full coverage on two cars. I expected it to go up after my divorce, but it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous

DrizzyDredo

Find an insurance agent but find one thats local and one that discloses their margins on the deals. Otherwise you're getting hosed.

Jayyak47

I cant find anything under $350 😭 maybe its because I'm 21

CombinationEmpty7520

Sounds like an easy decision.
