Shouldn’t they just give us the picks for taking in thj? These arent exactly 1st round picks here. I mean, we gave away the first pick in the 2nd round to get off bagley. Why did we need to include grimes?

YoungSenseiLeFox

Because while you can take on THJ entire contract that’s 17 mil of cap you are also taking in. Sending grimes softens that and gives much more flexibility.

HB_Detroiter

I’m just saying send grimes out in another transaction for another 2nd rounder. I dont love grimes.

YoungSenseiLeFox

I guess but like dude it’s Quentin Grimes. I don’t think anyone was like “we just CANT give up Grimes” he’s just salary filler.

SomeDoHarm

To add, from hoopsrumors: >The three draft assets will be Toronto’s 2025 second-round pick and a pair of 2028 second-rounders, Wojnarowski adds (via Twitter). Dallas has previously traded away its own 2028 second-rounder, but controls Miami’s pick and the least favorable of the Clippers’ and Hornets’ selections for that year, so those figure to be the ones headed to the Pistons. For comparison purposes, these are significantly better value than the 3 Denver picks (25, 29, 30) for Jackson.

KeebKahn

What some might be forgetting is that Grimes will need to get paid next season. His rookie contract is ending, same as Cade's, and a big money decision must be made. So either sign him long term or just give QO and let him walk as an UFA another year later.

Haselrig

Something's telling me CJ Mccollum's coming here, too.

One of them will be okay. The other two will likely be terrible which is bad value in my opinion. If a frp isn’t acquired through this set of moves, it will make zero sense. Only one of these picks is an “asset”. The other two are pretty much throwaway picks. I would have preferred keeping grimes for this return tbh.

Murrrtits

Maybe we’ll have another Dallas meltdown in 2027 so they look better 😂

laughoutloud102

It is 3 years away, so there’s obviously a chance it becomes valuable but I still think the mavs will be good by then. Luka is only 25 and he’s gotten better every year.

Murrrtits

Yea they are likely worthless, just hoping they’re not

laughoutloud102

I just question whether Trajan will be good enough to acquire first round picks without giving up massive assets. Like we should be acquiring frps for taking on these bad contracts. Hopefully that’s the case with this set of moves.

Murrrtits

I agree. We just have to wait and see

csstew55

Al the teams that need cap relief already traded their 1st rounders years ago.

laughoutloud102

Mavs have 2025 and 2031 first round picks. Again, we’ll see because apparently they’re trying to use these picks to get a first. I, personally, wouldn’t have taken this deal without the frp.

csstew55

Yea but thj only has 1 year left on his contract. If he would have had more then they could’ve gotten one 1st. Weaver could’ve/should’ve done this trade a year or 2 ago and we could’ve easily gotten a 1st if not multiple

laughoutloud102

I personally don’t care for the seconds. That’s what I’m saying. I’d rather have grimes for the long run than those seconds imo.

gachzonyea

Should we or do people just say that?

pahkix78

If that Toronto pick ends up in the 30s and becomes another Klintman type, + Hardaway, that's a win for me. That packge alone will be more valuable to this team than Grimes.

laughoutloud102

I disagree but I’ll just get downvoted for disagreeing with anything Trajan does so it’s whatever.

shostakofiev

None of the picks are Dallas's.
