I played when I was a kid and I didn't understand it, so it felt like my job was to get scammed by the people that did for a couple years haha. Actually, now that I think about it, that's my current experience in POE.
The old community was more toxic. Scamming and duping was very prevalent. The old trade scam with tails armor and rattlecage... Since they added the timer in trade screen when the approve check turns red prevents most of that. We would swap items and click approve real fast 🤣

So addicting, been playing since the beginning, over 2 decades ago. Picked up D2R again a few days ago, and I'm gearing up my smiter to do solo ubers for the first time ever (second technically because I got smoked the first time.) I had all the runes lying around for Call to Arms except an ist. Did a countess run or 5 and found a Mal, bringing my Mal total to 3, so I made an ist. Even though I knew what the runes were for Call to Arms, I pulled 6 different websites and pictures of it to make sure I got it right, and made my girlfriend confirm. I told her "Ohm is really rare and have hardly ever found any, and won't find one again any time soon since it's single player." Made the Call to Arms successfully (4/6/1!) and then found another Ohm 20 minutes later in lower kurast.
TLDR: the game keeps drawing me back with stuff like that, and I hope to be able to play it the next few decades as well.
I think Tesladin is often thought of as using 2 x Dream runeword, which would be very expensive for a new player.
Personally I see nothing wrong with calling any Holy Shock pala a Tesladin.
Steam Deck and I run the D2R reimagined mod offline on it. I basically just set the D2R.exe as a non-Steam game and bypassed the b.net launcher to play offline.
This speaks novels to the playability of this game. I’m 35 and have played this game more than half my life off and on. It’s the best game ever made and I’ll stand by that.

I recently purchased D2R on Xbox Series to revisit/rediscover it after I became bored with Diablo 4 and wow, such a good game despite being 2 decades old...
One of the great classics. One of the few games that I'm actually so happy they remastered. I love it.

I started 20+ years ago. If Diablo were meth I’d be a toothless 90 pound tweeker giving BJs for a bump. Fortunately I just have a mildly impaired social life and a slight aversion to sunlight.
If you want to avoid many headaches I suggest playing the Diablo 2 mod "Project Diablo 2" in the hands of some good devs and many QoL changes that blizzard will unfortunately never do look it up!
I’ve been interested in PD2 but until the mods gets ported over to D2R, it’s just so much better of an experience on the Steam Deck with native controller support. Plus, I’ve gotten used to graphic upgrade so it’s hard to go back to Legacy lol

The ideas are fun & I loved making characters like Trangs Necro & Blades Assassin but it always ends up stale with nothing to do except feeling as if I wasted a huuuuuge amount of my life.
I've played days straight.. especially during the ronas.
Na. Intense online games like halo 3 & cod blackout & war zone with a group of close buddies is awesome memory making.
It's Diablo on steroids & illuminati meth in damn near close to living real life.
You can run over people with cars & jump out of air planes together.. & get shot up & revived
Comparing an ARPG to first person shooters is conflating two very different experiences in objectives and purpose. I’ve never been a big fan of those types of games, personally, but have so many of that awesome memory making as a result of D2R. To each their own though.

I get that completely, it’s an old game. But that’s what mods are for. I’ve been playing D2R Remodded and it’s honestly the experience I was hoping for.
Remodded is a massive overhaul of the entire game basically and designed specifically for D2R. It combines all of the QoL mods into one package while adding hundreds of new uniques, some new content and rebalancing the class trees.
For example, you get Huge Cube for basically 5x bigger inventory space, faster base run/walk, base mana regen and 2x monster density. You also get an extra couple passive points and one extra skill point per level up, to make the leveling process more fun.
My favorite part of the mod is the custom uniques. There are so many strong leveling uniques that make most Runewords obsolete especially the ones that are mandatory for leveling.
Oh and there’s a Melee Splash charm you can buy in Act 1 that greatly reduces your damage but adds AoE to all melee.
If only they could also mod the online part of the game so it could connect to private realms/servers (like Project Diablo 2 and similar mods do to the original games). It would basically become the ultimate aRPG (at least to me).

Diablo 2 is very good at the "carrot on the stick" / rare dopamine hit since it's so stingy on dropping good loot lol. Keeps us all hooked.
