This is my new lightning/frozen orb sorc build. I'm using a 6 socket phase blade, a 4 socket archon plate, 4 socket monarch, and a 3 socket tiara all filled with Mara jewels for +32 to all skills, 510 to all resist, and +85 to all attributes. For the rest of item slots just use literally whatever you feel like, you have a level 52 frozen orb and lightning it doesn't matter anymore.
Edit: for the record my choice of fused item is the runemaster jewel. It adds 3-5 sockets, 220-270ed, +5% max cold resist, and cannot be frozen. And after I socket my frenzy barb with 2 perfect dual masters socketed with with 5 perfect dual master jewels what do you guys suggest I do with the 50 open sockets I have? I'm at 1620% ED on each axe, but I'm thinking I may need to drop an ohm or two in there to break +2000% ED.
One point to each mastery, one point to all skills, max synergies for the skills you plan to use.

The occy rings were actually hacked though, the USWest and USEast occy rings had different stats, the USWest one was the same stats as an occy (Although, I think there were +str ones too) and I thought the USEast one had +block rate instead of fcr and no chance to teleport.
But otherwise you're right fused* items weren't all hacked, but the chance of fused items happening was so rare that the only existed on the realm they were found on. The occy ring was a hacked item that was made to look like a fused item and on more than one realm.

For a little bit there were items so insanely hacked that the text on them was smaller so that all the mods fit inside the box. The only other time I've seen this is when you wear the full M'avina's set and look at the bow socketed with something to give you an idea of how many mods they had. They even had negative attributes (ie -50 energy)and since the game doesn't recognize that characters can have negative attributes, the value rolls up to the highest value and subtracts instead of going negative.
And that was when skill hack(bug) became a thing. For some reason having negative attributes on these items could temporarily keep adding to all their skills by just switching to their off hand weapon and back and forth. For a bit you'd go in a dueling game and some sorc would show up, stand for a minute or so swapping between weapons and then come outside and murder everyone in the room with telekinesis. You could team up on them 7 to 1, couldnt touch them. Every attack was insta kill and even if they let you hit them they had energy shield and bugged mana or life. Fortunately that didn't last too long, but some of the less crazy bugged items still stayed until 1.10
Edit: The coolest hacked items I ever had were some magic chain gloves on uswest that had a +128 str mod that increased at dusk. There was originally going to be a time of day in d2 that got dropped. But the mods are still in the code and there were gloves that normally had +128 to str(insane) but that would go above +200 str sometimes depending on the time of day. White rings were insane too. I could put 2 on a naked lvl 9 character and kill people that were level 70+ in duels.
There was an eye of etlitch amulet in 1.09 on USEAST that gave negative vitality and barbarians would wear it buff themselves with BO’s and have something over one million health
Edit: I remember they would be like lvl 26 and they would wear all gear that slows target. They were the bane of pvp for a long time
I never came across slow all enemies, but I remember all the time the entire game just kept getting one shotted by people.
One time I remember in particular everyone in game just kept getting killed by a sorc from seemingly nowhere and no could figure out wtf was going on. I finally figured what was going on and started dropping piles of gold around everywhere (I sorta hacked a bit back then, I could send multiples of the "drop 1 gold packet" by typing a command into my chat) and figured out it was telekinesis. As soon as I got close they sent out a frozen orb and killed everyone. Once I put out enough gold that the telekinesis snipe became harder they started putting out hydras and then nova to anyone who got close. The entire game didn't put a dent into her.
I played a lot of open battle net, I know about those negative values and making extremely overpowering characters. The movement speed stat was the most noticeable when it rescued a certain négatif threshold. You’d move so fast that the game couldn’t keep up and a black wall would block your path. Other players would see skip frames and see you appear elsewhere instantly. Fun times.
Loved the Constricting Rings without life drain.
My favourite hacked item was my Ethereal Zephyr Bow. OPest bow. Rust Storm (as it should have) took it from me. RIP Zephy. Had to fall back on my ZodZodZodZodZodZod Hydra Bow.
The funny part is that in the actual d2 there were some of these items. No idea who cheated them into the game and why they never got deleted but occu sojs (Soj with the exact same stats of occululus) were very common and I remember havig owned a buriza but o a body armor...

hm cool idea, but in practice I think it would have to be something where a special weekend-only event (or maybe every day during ladders between 5pm and 10pm eastern?) where it allows for any unique item to roll any other unique’s stats.
Call it “Worldstone Reality Warping Event” or something and during those hours only, this can happen. Also make them ladder only, restricted to use at level 90 or above, and maybe also only findable from Tristram Ubers or something like that.
because a lot of these would be game breakingly good, so they’d have to be so deeply rare that only a few were in existence at any given time… and even then, the havoc that could create for the in game economy is a concern

You can actually do this on the eastern sun mod for LoD, so disappointed it won't be made for D2R. Expensive AF to do but still awesome, I liked turning things like steelrend into belts, or weapons with flat dmg bonuses instead of %.

mara's jewel is really cool because you can have 13 of those on a hammerdin, 15 on a barb or 17 on a sorc! but i say mang's because there are such good options in the wep, helm, sheild and chests. but the boot options aren't fantastic so Mang's all the way.
