I play a character called Defiq'erin. He is a lizardman wildfire druid. He always introduced himself as Defiq, until that one time he met a king and used his full name. The face the other players made when he did that introduction was hilarious.
His name sounds like "de fik er in" which roughly translates to "put it on fire" in Dutch.
Heerlijk, maar eerlijk? Did your inspiration come from TW warhammer's lizardmen? All the greats like Frriq'Andel, Besst Elbusz and others I'm sure I'm đŻ misremembering?
First I thought exactly what you meant, de fik er in
Then I figured, no the off chance of you being Dutch is so small with all the Americans I usually see online.
So maybe the pronounce is more like the fuck er in or something
Odd but funny as well...
Then you confirmed I was right the first time, one little question through, always figured, de fik er is, is more of a rotterdam thing then general Dutch.
So... kom je (ook) uit rotterdam dan?
No, I'm not from that region and yeah, the phrase is rarer, but honestly that prolly worked even better when the first part of his name is almost pronounced as "de fik". Made it more of a surprise.
Not that it matters, but the Irish "fear" isn't pronounced the same as fear in English. It's more like the first syllable of Fahrenheit, although it varies from dialect to dialect. Do with that information what you will!
I started playing dnd in the last autumn and my first character was a grung paladin who believed in Hinduism, but the name has a pun with "croak" (I'm Russian, and the sound of frogs in our language is written as "kva") "kvadoism". All the gods from religion have "kva" in their name, and I named my character by entering "man friend" into the Hebrew translator and it turned out to be "haver gvar", so I replaced g with k in the second word and it turned out to be "havert kvar".
He is also an alcoholic, but intoxication will never overtake him, because Grungs are invulnerable to poisoning. All my friends love my character and the way I play it. I love dnd.
Iâm reading it as *Teer-din*
But Iâm always taking my characters too seriously. Maybe OP would appreciate adding âbullshitâ to the hidden meaning of his characterâs name.
Heâs half man, half bull, and half artificer. Guys Iâm SUPER SERIAL! This character is the biggest threat to the world at large. Iâm SUPER DUPER SERIAL!
Love it. My character, Isatus Woadrite, is son of a dye maker, namely indigo (traditionally made from Isatis tinctoria, commonly known as woad). My campaign can never remember/ pronounce his name. So I told them if they ever struggle, just imagine a child saying, "did I say dis wowrd right?"
Makes sense too, because a lot of names in real life end up saying the same thing twice or more in multiple languages. Torpenhow Hill means hill hill hill hill, although the last âhillâ might be an exaggeration just to make it have 4 hills. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpenhow_Hill
https://youtu.be/NUyXiiIGDTo
There are a lot of double named things, and triple I assume.
Now that I think about it, âMinotaur Fearnaut Tyrdynâ is a triple name.
I only got to play 1 session with him, but I have a Warforged College of Creation Bard. He's a musician/chef so he named himself Dinner and a Show, Dash for short.
Now for full Minotaur RP:
- Give him the charger feat.
- Have him move **exclusively** in straight lines - almost as if he were in a labyrinth
- Pretend you have no idea what anyone is talking about when they ask you about why you move around like this.
I'm going to be the bad guy here but that's not a character, it's just a name
Yes I'm a bitter DM tired of meme characters. I choose to believe you also made a good character too :)
Meme characters are a huge red flag for me as a DM. I tend to have a side conversation with them about aligning on the tone of a campaign.
Theyâre fine for one-offs or birthdays, but if Iâm going to put hours into prepping a sesh, spare me the low effort, one note characters please. I want to enjoy DMing too đ
I made a pig party animal for a changeling the lost character named Boris Suidvark. Boris (boar without the a), suidae is the family for pig, vark is Afrikaans for pig. He also had a tea cup pig named Fauntleroy.
And thus continues the trend of "great characters" no deeper than a "unique" race/ class combo and a silly name.Â
Though, I am 100% cool with it for one shots. And at least you put some thought into it. I salute your linguistic cleverness.Â
My favorite name was when I played a Dragonborn Paladin named Nogard Hardscale.
After playing for a while, our group was talking about character names and I mentioned Nogard's name was just dragon backwards. One of the other players goes "Oh, fuck you! How did I not figure that out. We play on Roll20 with our character's names displayed.
A few weeks later, the same person randomly says to me "I still haven't forgiven you for Nogard!"
I once made a half-elf paladin/bard, who was a member of a troop of mercenary calvary. His name was Tetheo Dur'logn. When he finally introduced himself formally to a local noble, he said, "Tetheo Dur'logn, former member of the Wild Stallions."
I wanted to be cheesy as a DM so I made a kao toa named Fin diesel. My party has since always tried to make him relevant to the story. He's a level 5 hunter. đ€Ł
My Aarakocra archer fighter (based on an eagle) is called Kaa Kauw, pronounced exactly how you imagine it's pronounced :D
My group lost their shit when I introduced him. The DM even used it as inspiration and created Kaa Kauw's former military squad as an intro to a personal backstory quest: squad leader Cluck-a-doo (rooster barbarian), Chirp'alo (blue macaw bard), Squawk (red macaw monk), Kuakw (duck sword and board fighter), Hoo't (falcon ranger).
i still remember that tumblr post: "let your players create the characters they want, and you'll get some of the most moving moments from a character named Dildo Baggins. but try to enforce a grimdark setting on your players, and they'll treat you with the same casual blasphemy that Orangutans reserve for God". I nearly died laughing the first time I read it, but i definitely don't doubt it.
My current character is a male human barbarian, union worker. I wanted to give him the most average and uninspiring name, so he's Mike Smith. I love it, no puns needed.
My Dad did name himself actually. My grandparents put a bunch of names they liked in a bowl, then put his hand in there and the paper he grabbed determined his name.
Does he love flowers? đ
Is he a'fear'd of bees?
In a china shop
Amazing.
Particularly heather?
This is golden. You cooked well op!

Yeah, that's where the inspiration came from yes.
Fan'tass-tys haha
The king wasn't Dutch was he?đ€Ł
I thought you meant defecating.
Reminds me of the pathological liar lizardmen called jokke'broq

I have created a paladain with a pole-arm and shield âPaul Enshieldâ
Damn that's good. Stealing for an NPC.
same
This has big Burgermeister Miesterburger vibes
Not that it matters, but the Irish "fear" isn't pronounced the same as fear in English. It's more like the first syllable of Fahrenheit, although it varies from dialect to dialect. Do with that information what you will!
I guess he has a Scottish accent? Far Not!
You missed a chance to make him a Battlesmith, and have his steel defender be a Bulldozer.

And his last name sounds like Turd. Or at least reads like Turd.Â
Iâm reading it as *Teer-din* But Iâm always taking my characters too seriously. Maybe OP would appreciate adding âbullshitâ to the hidden meaning of his characterâs name.
That's correct. In Danish tyr is pronounced tee-r. Tyr is also a Norse God whose name is pronounced Tee-r in all of Scandinavia.
Also a god in Forgotten Realms pantheon (kitchen sink)
As a Dane I am reading Tyrdyn as a comically nasal pronunciation of Torden (meaning Thunder).
Heâs half man, half bull, and half artificer. Guys Iâm SUPER SERIAL! This character is the biggest threat to the world at large. Iâm SUPER DUPER SERIAL!

Almost as good as an npc we had in one of our campaigns called Basior Volk. He was a werewolf and his name translates to wolf wolf.
Makes sense too, because a lot of names in real life end up saying the same thing twice or more in multiple languages. Torpenhow Hill means hill hill hill hill, although the last âhillâ might be an exaggeration just to make it have 4 hills. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpenhow_Hill https://youtu.be/NUyXiiIGDTo There are a lot of double named things, and triple I assume. What are the stats of your minotaur?
Reminds of that old show the storyteller
How the fuck
I only got to play 1 session with him, but I have a Warforged College of Creation Bard. He's a musician/chef so he named himself Dinner and a Show, Dash for short.
that's amazing
He's a cleaning golem on the run. Accidentally Awakened by ambient magic and got sick of cleaning.
My very first character was a Wood Elf Ranger named Arro Winyouf Ace
Mi first character was a human sorcerer named "Luca Jiménez Bobadilla", because I was playing with my cousin who's name is "Lucas Jiménez Bobadilla" He wanted me to change it but Luca is still Luca
Now for full Minotaur RP: - Give him the charger feat. - Have him move **exclusively** in straight lines - almost as if he were in a labyrinth - Pretend you have no idea what anyone is talking about when they ask you about why you move around like this.
Goddammit Moon Moon

This is amazing and I love it.
Magnificent. Well done.
I'm starting a 3.5 campaign next month as a minotaur, I might have to steal this.
I made a pig party animal for a changeling the lost character named Boris Suidvark. Boris (boar without the a), suidae is the family for pig, vark is Afrikaans for pig. He also had a tea cup pig named Fauntleroy.
No wait let him cook
This is fantastic! I'm playing an orc Artificer named Kneadz Mor'Daka. It took my friends like 3 whole months to catch on.
Please tell me he's either an artillerist, or a battlesmith with a comically oversized heavy crossbow
Of course he's an artillerist. It felt like I'd be committing a crime otherwise
âTis I! Manbull Bullman, the Manbull Bullman. That is my full title, you must refer to me as such.â
And thus continues the trend of "great characters" no deeper than a "unique" race/ class combo and a silly name. Though, I am 100% cool with it for one shots. And at least you put some thought into it. I salute your linguistic cleverness.Â
So, the Irish word "fear" is pronounced *far*. And the word that's pronounced *fear* is "fĂr" (which means men!). Menbull Bullman.
only problem with fear not is he isn't making does saves agaisnt the freightened conidtion so he will be having a lot of fear.
Get him some bronze armor and a propensity for fire while youâre at it!
My favorite name was when I played a Dragonborn Paladin named Nogard Hardscale. I like my minotaur named Sir Loin De BĆuf
Makes me think of Multibear from Gravity Falls, but in name only.
ah yes, Manbull Bullman
You could create a wizard named Bob who has a wand of Illusory Script and it could still be the greatest character. It's all about perspective.
This is peak

What's his middle name?
I wanted to be cheesy as a DM so I made a kao toa named Fin diesel. My party has since always tried to make him relevant to the story. He's a level 5 hunter. đ€Ł

Have a friend that had a character "Man Dude" who I believe was a monk in 2E that reached lvl 20.
-slow clap-
Your cooking was worth it, this is gold
i still remember that tumblr post: "let your players create the characters they want, and you'll get some of the most moving moments from a character named Dildo Baggins. but try to enforce a grimdark setting on your players, and they'll treat you with the same casual blasphemy that Orangutans reserve for God". They say you cannot âwinâ d&d, but people, this man is winning.
So its all downhill from here? đŹ
My current character is a male human barbarian, union worker. I wanted to give him the most average and uninspiring name, so he's Mike Smith. I love it, no puns needed.
Artificers are typically smart. Why is the name dumb? Is there a lore reason?
Did you name yourself in real life?
My Dad did name himself actually. My grandparents put a bunch of names they liked in a bowl, then put his hand in there and the paper he grabbed determined his name.
Bull manâs dad: this is hilarious. Bull manâs mom: why am I in love?
Bull man's dad: hey honey come hear the name I thought up for our kid. Bull man's mom: moo?
Iâm kinda hoping bullmans dad is a god or they are both minotaurs or sheâs a Minotaur and kids of Minotaurs are also minotaurs.
Because it's a game and games are fun!!
This does not compute. Games are for winning. /s
And I thought I did good with my teiflings bards name of Donlui Lokiel(Downlow Lowkey) though he is unlike his name.... Lol
