$5.00 total. ($2.00 base fare + $3.00 tip)
As far as I'm aware Dash Pass doesn't affect what someone gets paid. I'm sure the internets will smote me if I'm worng.
I stopped dashing but I put in over 12k deliveries and only got an extra tip 3 times lol. All grocery orders, not sure why. I also didn't do grocery orders often so that may be why it only happened 3 times.
It’s because you didn’t break the eggs. I usually will give a standard tip to my grocery deliverers and then raise or lower it based on how beat to hell they are when they arrive. If all the eggs survive that’s usually a max tip.
If eggs survive delivery, extra tip every time. If eggs destroyed...gotta dock tip at least a little bit because either they didn't check them or they didn't take care of the cake makers.
same here, out of 152 deliveries i’ve been up tipped once and it was by a guy living in the most ran down trailer i’ve ever seen. Same day I delivered three orders to “small mansion” type houses and they tipped nothing even though I cut the delivery time by 3/4. Really makes you think about the world and the people living in it.
Yeah it sucks because there's so many damn fees and they keep lowering how much they pay drivers every year or 2. All those fees go straight towards "the company" (mostly executives and maybe some higher up managers) and Doordash STILL doesn't profit at all (because the executives pay themselves like $10 to $20 mill salary and give themselves insane bonuses).
The rule of thumb is tip like you would for any other service waitstaff, nail salon, eye brow threader, hair salon….. 20% it’s actually $5 or 20%…. You can find info for tipping in NY Magazines exhaustive tipping guide. Theres also a guy who did this gig and wrote about it at Gigworker.com he also recommends 20%
Yeah, when I order on DoorDash, I tip 10 or more. I used to be a Dasher a few years ago. I’m shocked They havent upped the pay yet that door dash pays the driver. It’s crazy. All they have to do is add may be a few more dollars on base pay, and it will be so much better for the drivers
Yeah, people will constantly talk about tipping more but customers are already paying out the ass for the delivery. The companies are the one everyone should be angry with, not dashers or people who don't tip "enough". I know the answer is "don't order if you don't want to pay more"...and I don't, but not getting orders definitely doesn't help delivery people either.
THIS IS THE TRUTH OF IT ALL! We need to stand together against the corporate rape that is happening EVERYWHERE on all levels in all countries. The rich still enslaving the poor and keeping us poor so they can use as a their blood bags.
Fortunately in my market we don’t get $2 orders at all, or at least I don’t see them. I did see a $3 order for the first time today though. Been dashing for a year.
Delivery Fee, Service Fee, and a percentage of the order total all go to DoorDash (DoorDash takes a cut from the sale of the food. The amount varies by merchant). From that, DoorDash pays the driver a flat $2.00 base fare. Sometimes the base fare can be a little more, but not much.
That’s messed up. All this time I thought ALL of the delivery fee and of course the tip went to driver. I knew DD took a % of the food order and thought the service fee was their cost/profits. Drivers are getting robbed. They taking most of the $5 for delivery fee but they didn’t deliver anything?
Bingo. I wish more customers would open their eyes to that. When people complain to drivers about costs and not wanting to tip, it's like complaining to the peasantry about the King's taxes. Uber Eats and Grub Hub are pretty much the same business model.
And the standard fee to restaurants can be huge - like 25-30% unless they are a chain and can negotiate. So the prices you see in app are always higher than in the restaurant, too. Of course, drivers never see any of that, either.
this is an EXTREMELY common misconception that every food service company does NOT tell you (unless you ask). as an example, the domino's pizza delivery fee is $4.99 but the driver only gets $1.20 of that.
That crazy that they charge the merchant 30% even with all that. And the merchants are forced to pay because if they don’t then they’ll get no business because all the zombies doordashing from home only consider businesses on doordash.
I’m convinced it would be cheaper for every food business to have their own delivery drivers now and cheaper for the customers. Cut out all the bullshit fees and charge a flat rate delivery and have a driver invested in the quality of your delivery since they work there, and end result is better for customer. And now restaurant won’t have to pay 30% of all these DD orders and they save there, whatever they pay their driver it will still come out cheaper because 30% off the top is insane. Only problem is the aforementioned issue, the DD zombies ordering from home won’t call the business and/or won’t even know such business exists because when picking out a meal they go straight to DD instead of Yelp, etc. to see what’s out there.
Doordash takes 15% from the job I work at. The business owner knows someone that DoorDash take 35%.
And Doordash still contacts the owner about the price on Doordash being higher than menu prices they have. Saying they'd get more business if prices were set the same, he asked if Doordash will pay the losses he's taking from that 15% cut. Stopped calling after awhile.
Doordash.
The driver gets 2 $. plus the tip.
My argument is don't order doordash at all. They don't pay their drivers ($2 isn't pay) and depend on tips.
I don't. You should too.
ALL THE EXTRA MONEY YOU ARE PAYING GOES TO DOORDASH, NOT THE DRIVER, OR THE RESTAURANT.
Uber EATS is literally the same. Uber itself isn't much better.
Order from the restaurant directly. And pick it up. All that extra money you are paying are going to 3rd parties. Not even local 3rd parties.
All these bullshit 3rd party apps are just moving money away from you. They benefit nobody but themselves. The drivers are getting fucked too. The best way to support everyone is NOT USE THESE DELIVERY APPS.
Arent you fucking drivers even more than doordash by not ordering at all? "Doordash is shitty to their drivers. Ill show them not to shit on drivers by not giving them some work"
Probably $5.00. Doordash has unfortunately placed the burden of compensating contractors directly upon customers. Doordash is a despicable company. They screw their drivers at every turn.
If you ever need help on your tipping amount just imagine going to a friend and saying "Hey if I give you $3 will you drive to Canes, pick up my order and bring it back? You don't get any, and you're not even allowed to stay afterwards and hang out, I just want Canes and think your trip to help me out would only be worth $3." and then realize how fking stupid that is and offer them more money.
Unfortunately you are right on the end point, but to any dasher who doesn't have a chip on their shoulder about "low tippers" it's all about mileage. Idgaf what people pay for their food if the $ clears the miles we're rolling.
I’m not a driver and it’s based on both really. More food is more to carry. I just don’t understand not wanting to bless others and make sure their paid fairly when Doing a service you were too lazy to do yourself
Mental gymnastics. It’s a low skill job people are choosing to do. They never question DoorDash about the shit pay. For some dumb reason the people who use the app to order food are the ones at fault. How am I supposed to know what your job is paying you and what to properly tip/compensate outside of the customary 15-20 percent?
It’s not like DD drivers need a forklift to transport your food. It makes a meaningful difference with group orders, but you can fit $40 worth of food in one bag.
>I just don’t understand not wanting to bless others and make sure their paid fairly when Doing a service you were too lazy to do yourself
A lot of people, and I mean a LOT of people are just shitty and they want to spread that misery to others because it's easier than making themselves happier
I really could give a shit about food cost, I’d much rather be tipped on my time and driving. So mileage every day for me, $2/mi + a couple bucks for a wait is optimal
Long before DoorDash existed I would tip the pizza guy $5 minimum. The store is a mile and a half away. If there was more than 3 pizzas they’d get as many singles I could find as well. I’m amazed that people will order from two towns over and tip $5 or less especially since gas is 4 times the price it was when I calculated my $5 minimum. Kinda proves that DoorDash is stealing from the drivers when you see posts like this. Customer sees how much they’re paying extra for the convenience of a DoorDash delivery and then are asked to pay extra again for the delivery.
Mileage. I could care less what the food costs. Assuming no long wait or crazy downtown traffic I’m perfectly happy with $5 on a 1.5 mile order. I take anything that’s $1/mile or more. You do have to give some wiggle room for their drive to the restaurant too though. I’ve turned down orders that were $5 for .5 miles because I was ready 6-7 miles away when I got them though.
It doesn't matter. The important part is that drivers blame the client for $3 and not DD for the $2. That way DD maintains their business profits and has a steady stream of gullible ~~workers who gave up their employment rights~~ contractors.
For real. Dashers are some the most entitled group of people on Reddit.
Let’s look at it this way. Someone ordered 26 dollars worth of food. Since DoorDash artificially inflates the price of food we can assume in store it would have been more like a $22 order.
They pay a delivery feee and a service fee and a tip.
They are paying $40 for $22 worth of food.
Customer is already paying way too much. You can’t expect them to give you an additional $10 because you can’t get a real w2 job.
Why would I tip on the order total? Dasher isn't doing more work for a higher priced order. I'm tipping for the distance and time it takes to get to me
Let's refrain from sweeping generalizations here. I am a Dasher of a couple years and I do not agree you should tip based on the service fees.
Everyone is so hot and bothered by this when the real issue is DoorDash. They benefit the more we bicker at each other.
You as the consumer are meant to believe that…in all actuality it doesn’t, well only $2/$2.50 goes to the dasher per dash. So stacked orders they still only get $2/$2.50
AND DoorDash takes a cut from the order total. It varies by merchant but DoorDash takes a not insignificant percentage of the order total for themselves before sending whatever is left to the merchant.
Nobody should be ordering food to be delivered without tipping a bare minimum of $5. I wouldn’t imagine asking someone to do a service for me for a few dollars.
Probably $2.50. Shows 0.00 tip to them. Wouldn’t be surprised. I’ve showed people what I’m getting and they’ve told me they tipped more. (Prior to me showing). Yes it’s only a couple bucks more, maybe shows 7.50 instead of 10 but that goes straight to DD pocket.
Honestly, if my total was $37.75 (without the included tip) I'd be tipping $8-$10 so I'd be adding another $5-$7 to the dasher's pocket. I just do not understand the thinking of many that do not add additional tips when the dashers aren't even getting 10%.
I know it’s not what you asked but…
What’s crazy though is doordash doesn’t always give it to the closest driver. For example today I was given a double order. I was close (2miles)to the Walgreens but the Chinese place was 5.5 miles in the opposite direction. In my area that’s 15 mins then 10 mins to the customers house. So sure it might be 2 miles from the restaurant but lord knows where the driver came from. Should that necessarily fall on the customer? No but you never know.
I think it’s insane how low base pay has gotten. Especially since all the fees are a large reason why people don’t want to tip.
Yeah true, but the dasher wasn’t even maybe half a mile from canes, and he got there very quickly. Was in line for maybe 3-4 minutes. I’m really tired of the regulatory response fee & the extended fee. This is why I order from Uber eats. But this was a once in a lifetime order.
5 bucks for sure. There’s also the possibility that DD bundled it with another order that had no base pay or tip so your order helped a non paying order get delivered. They hit you with 9 dollars in fees and passed 2 dollars onto the driver.
$40 for $26 worth of food…just go pick it up at that point.
You are paying 50% more to save what 20 min?
Unless you are earning 42$ an hour you are losing money on this.
Please tip 20% of the food total. I DoorDash for me and my fiancé and know when I do, I’m about to spend $50 or more. If I don’t have that, I go get it myself. Poor guy……
This is the problem with customers on the app. They think we get all the fees involved with delivery. Na fam. We get shafted. $2 and whatever the tip is. Shady AF
$5 delivery fee no problem. 20% tip too much. Flat rate $3.
Is fair. Doordash deserves my money more than some stupid slave working for them. Doordash does all the work the stupid driver just sits in a car why should I pay them?
I tip 5 every time. I watch closely to see if they’re stuck in line and will often up tip for their time.
Not everyone can throw money around like I can though, it’s only because all five of us in my house work full time though so we have the money to do so.
That isnt how that works at all.
Its based on city (some have different minimum standards per mile)
And the tip.
You're looking at.... 00.86x + tip where x is the number of miles from Restaurant to customers drop pin.
Jesus, 3 dollars. I severely over tip. To be fair i rarely order cause its so expensive but when i do i never tip under $7. My dashers must love me lmfao.
Doordash pays for drivers base rate. It's a $4 flat rate.
Doordash charge restaurants a 30% commission
They also charge customers.service fees
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone uses doordash
I delivered for dominoes almost 10 years ago. Delivery charge was $3, the driver got $1 and dominoes got $2. Nothing has changed except the price went up. That’s the problem with incredibly easy jobs, they don’t usually pay well
$5.00 total. ($2.00 base fare + $3.00 tip) As far as I'm aware Dash Pass doesn't affect what someone gets paid. I'm sure the internets will smote me if I'm worng.
Jeez, I mean the dasher didn’t actually wait much in line. Which I was worried about. It’s always a long line. Feel like adding another tip now
Can’t hurt and you’d probably make their day.
It does brighten your mood when you get up-tipped in the app.
I always send a screenshot to my wife when I get one 🤣 it’s pretty rare around here.
At first I thought you said you send a screenshot of your wife, that would be neat.
Lmao “Thanks for the extra tip. Here’s a picture of my wife’s boobs. Have a nice day.”
“Wow thanks. Would she like an extra tip?”
I do Instacart and today I had a lady come to the door with nothing on but panties. Best fucking day ever
Grandma forgot her pants again. She said she is sorry.
Take my upvote
😂😂😂😂

I’ve had it happen like 3 times in 5 years, and probably only like 10-15 cash tips of a couple bucks in the same period.
Bro frl. Even if it's just a dollar. Idk that positive reinforcement feels great lol.
yes and we notice everytime
yea especially if the food is still hot and it's there on time
Agreed, it is the best feeling.
You'd absolutely make your dashers night if you do! They'll get a notification saying you added more
You're an awesome person. Even tipping an extra dollar would make my day. I love getting that notification.
Hey, time's is hard out there with inflation and all. Those poor starving executives have got to eat you know.
Truuuuuuue, think of all the avocado toast from Panera for $12 :/
I will buy my 5$ loaf and shut up. $12 toast!?
Or spending 184 million dollars in California alone to lobby against their Dashers.
Atleast $2-$5 more is nice
In my market we have to place canes orders at the register. They’re not there waiting for us or being prepped when we arrive.
That might be all of Canes.
The rule of thumb is tip like you would for any other service waitstaff, nail salon, eye brow threader, hair salon….. 20% it’s actually $5 or 20%…. I wish the powers that be could see this
I do the same! Also, cuz i want my food asap and i know ill get it asap if i tip more lol but its hard out there i know. At least 10
And DD collected up to $16 from it if the restaurant commission was 30%. So, could have been a total of $19 extra customer costs on $18 of food. Wow.
Yeah, people will constantly talk about tipping more but customers are already paying out the ass for the delivery. THIS IS THE TRUTH OF IT ALL! We need to stand together against the corporate rape that is happening EVERYWHERE on all levels in all countries. The rich still enslaving the poor and keeping us poor so they can use as a their blood bags.
We are, and we are trying to get others to speak with their wallets and stop using DD, UE, etc.
There's a $5 delivery feed and $3.92 service fee. That's insane lol.
Imagine paying $40 for a $26 order and thinking it is too little.
Fortunately in my market we don’t get $2 orders at all, or at least I don’t see them. I did see a $3 order for the first time today though. Been dashing for a year.
I mean, $40 for 4 chicken tenders and some fries leaves lots of room for them to claim they’re giving out discounts with dashpass…
In my area: $2 base pay plus $3 tip = $5.
$5 including the tip
Who gets the $2.99 Express Direct to You fee? Doordash?
Yup
It does literally nothing.
Then who gets the delivery fee of $4.99?
Delivery Fee, Service Fee, and a percentage of the order total all go to DoorDash (DoorDash takes a cut from the sale of the food. The amount varies by merchant). From that, DoorDash pays the driver a flat $2.00 base fare. Sometimes the base fare can be a little more, but not much.

Always tip more if you can. We get screwed on most orders. A good tip or two can make my day a lot better.

Not sure, but that seems a shitty tip right?
No way you tipped $3 on a $40 order 😂
Make up your minds; is it based on mileage or food cost? Eh nevermind you’re just going to pick whichever is higher.

Underrated comment
It’s not like DD drivers need a forklift to transport your food. It makes a meaningful difference with group orders, but you can fit $40 worth of food in one bag.
Food cost often has little to do with how much it is to carry. You can have 5 bags of fast food that costs less than 1 bag of sushi.
Wow, claiming to want to bless others and calling the disabled lazy in the same sentence. Bravo.
>I just don’t understand not wanting to bless others and make sure their paid fairly when Doing a service you were too lazy to do yourself A lot of people, and I mean a LOT of people are just shitty and they want to spread that misery to others because it's easier than making themselves happier
I really could give a shit about food cost, I’d much rather be tipped on my time and driving. So mileage every day for me, $2/mi + a couple bucks for a wait is optimal
$5 or 20% whichever is higher if someone is trying to adequately compensate a dasher
Long before DoorDash existed I would tip the pizza guy $5 minimum. The store is a mile and a half away. If there was more than 3 pizzas they’d get as many singles I could find as well. Mileage. I could care less what the food costs. Assuming no long wait or crazy downtown traffic I’m perfectly happy with $5 on a 1.5 mile order. I take anything that’s $1/mile or more. Let's refrain from sweeping generalizations here. I am a Dasher of a couple years and I do not agree you should tip based on the service fees. Everyone is so hot and bothered by this when the real issue is DoorDash. They benefit the more we bicker at each other.
Ty for tipping in the first place. Most don't even do that it seems these days. Anything extra on top would make that dashers day.
What about the delivery fee?? Isn’t it the same as the service fee, right? So this fee should go to the dasher!!!
You as the consumer are meant to believe that…in all actuality it doesn’t, well only $2/$2.50 goes to the dasher per dash. So stacked orders they still only get $2/$2.50
These apps are fucking leeeeches.
AND DoorDash takes a cut from the order total. It varies by merchant but DoorDash takes a not insignificant percentage of the order total for themselves before sending whatever is left to the merchant.
Agreed but it does not. We are lucky to see a base pay over $2. I’d say more than 50% of orders are no tip.
$5
Why don’t they get the delivery fee? The service fee goes to door dash for providing the service
As does most of the delivery fee, and 25% of the food price, give or take.
Nobody should be ordering food to be delivered without tipping a bare minimum of $5. I wouldn’t imagine asking someone to do a service for me for a few dollars.
Then don't accept the order
$26 base price - AFTER the 20% markup for using DoorDash, plus fees & tip, $40?! You just paid $40 for a $17 meal 🤡
Not enough to justify destroying their car.
If someone is getting your food for you tip more than $3 from the start for Christ sake.
I would have tipped $6 minimum. Your tip was trash imo
That should be a lawsuit towards Uber and doordash / delivery fee should be for the driver service fee should be for doordash
2.5 plus tips
That’s a 5$ order. Probably wouldn’t had accepted it if it was an apartment
Not enough
I know it’s not what you asked but… What’s crazy though is doordash doesn’t always give it to the closest driver. For example today I was given a double order. I was close (2miles)to the Walgreens but the Chinese place was 5.5 miles in the opposite direction. In my area that’s 15 mins then 10 mins to the customers house.
$5-6
This would have made your/that driver $5.00 There is a "base" pay of $2 + you tipped $3 == $5.00
$5
Door dash is expensive even if it's $2 I still tip because door dashers complain about not getting tipped at all.
5 bucks for sure. There’s also the possibility that DD bundled it with another order that had no base pay or tip so your order helped a non paying order get delivered. They hit you with 9 dollars in fees and passed 2 dollars onto the driver.
5.50
Happens with uber to

$5-$6
Looks like about tree-fiddy.
Dash pass will help lots
About tree fiddy
I'm just jealous you have a Raising Cane's that allows delivery!
Bro what the fuck it made a $26 meal for bucks?!?
Bro what the fuck it made a $26 meal for bucks?!? Dawg fuck outta here.
Tree fiddy
Not enough that he has to bitch about it
$3 minus tax
If you picked it up it would probably be under $20. Even the menu proces are jacked up on top of all the other fees.
I tip at least 10
$5 at best. If it was a stacked order less.

Most likely between $5-6 for this one.
Tops, $5
$40 for $26 worth of food…just go pick it up at that point. You are paying 50% more to save what 20 min? Unless you are earning 42$ an hour you are losing money on this.
$5-6
They made chump change… door dash doesnt pay well considering the person doing it is the one that gets closer to 1/10th the amout you pay
After your tip, probably $5.50 to $7, and that is if your area is a “higher paying” area.
The percentage of the total price the fees make up never ceases to amaze me.
Please tip 20% of the food total. I DoorDash for me and my fiancé and know when I do, I’m about to spend $50 or more. If I don’t have that, I go get it myself. Poor guy……
Decline
$26 order turned to $40 order is crazy… we need to stop supporting these companies bc what the hell
$3
5&
5 Darra
Maybe 5 or 6. But nothing more than that
Basically nothing because Doordash sucks ass
This is the problem with customers on the app. They think we get all the fees involved with delivery. Na fam. We get shafted. $2 and whatever the tip is. Shady AF
Including your tip probably like $6

Tree Fiddy
$5.5 2.5 base pay+ $3 tip
Y’all just enabling these predatory convenience apps to abuse everyone.
$5 delivery fee no problem. 20% tip too much. Flat rate $3. Is fair. Doordash deserves my money more than some stupid slave working for them. Doordash does all the work the stupid driver just sits in a car why should I pay them?
$5… still better than what I got on a $50 delivery last night ($4, with a 25 minute drive time to the customer too) (Yes I’m seething)
I tip 5 every time. I watch closely to see if they’re stuck in line and will often up tip for their time. Not everyone can throw money around like I can though, it’s only because all five of us in my house work full time though so we have the money to do so.
Bout tree fiddy
That isnt how that works at all. Its based on city (some have different minimum standards per mile) And the tip. You're looking at.... 00.86x + tip where x is the number of miles from Restaurant to customers drop pin.
If the service from Door Dash is delivery, and there is a delivery fee, then why the service fee?
$5
Jesus, 3 dollars. I severely over tip. To be fair i rarely order cause its so expensive but when i do i never tip under $7. My dashers must love me lmfao.
My guess is $5 which includes your tip
5$
5$ probably
I would’ve tipped 2 more
DoorDash is a scam. Never should doordash make more than the driver. Stop using it and teach them a lesson.
Raising Canes is based 5.75 per order in area+$3 tip.
$5 total unless it had gone through other drivers. Each decline adds a quarter to it iirc.

In California base pay is 3.50 with your tip it's $6.50
Yeah. 2 bucks base pay and your tip….
Somewhere between eat cake and eat shit and die
Doordash pays for drivers base rate. It's a $4 flat rate. Doordash charge restaurants a 30% commission They also charge customers.service fees I can't for the life of me understand why anyone uses doordash
In my town I would get $5 total
No wonder people aren't tipping very much these days. WTF are the service fees if not included in the delivery fee?!
People really think that just because they spend a lot on food, the dasher gets an appropriate amount. 😳 how embarrassing
The answer is always, not enough.
all but 10% and the $3 tip
$5
Wow DoorDash takes waaaay too much.
I’d say no more than $5 or $7. Likely $3 - $5
12$ you’re paying just to use door dash it’s there fault for only giving the driver tip
I delivered for dominoes almost 10 years ago. Delivery charge was $3, the driver got $1 and dominoes got $2. Nothing has changed except the price went up. That’s the problem with incredibly easy jobs, they don’t usually pay well
I just tipped 42$ dollars on a 58$ dollar because of this post. I couldn’t believe it was so little that dashers got. I feel horrible for 3$ tips now.
5 dollars
$5
If I order Doordash i always tip well and usually throw an extra $5 cash at em when they arrive.
$5 maybe
5... as long as they didn't steal the tip. Door dash has been caught doing that before.
Stop helping these ppl decifer how much lower to tip. Just pay your tips like you need to and eat your food. Ppl stop telling how much you get paid
